Anthony Davis (foot) set to rejoin Lakers on Wed.

LOS ANGELES — Lakers star big man Anthony Davis will return to the lineup on Wednesday against the visiting San Antonio Spurs, barring any setback during his pregame warmup, league sources told ESPN.

Davis will be on a 20- to 24-minute restriction, easing back from a foot injury that had some medical personnel projecting an eight- to 10-week recovery time frame, sources said. It was 5½ weeks ago that he suffered a fractured bone spur and stress reaction in his right foot.

The Lakers have gone 10-10 in Davis’ absence, after falling to the LA Clippers 133-115 on Tuesday.

“I didn’t expect anything besides just go out and compete,” LeBron James said after the Clippers game when asked about how the Lakers fared without Davis. “It wasn’t like, ‘OK, AD’s out, what can we do?’ You just go out and play the game and see what happens.”

Davis averaged 27.4 points this season prior to the injury, while also posting career bests in rebounds (12.1 per game) and field goal percentage (59.4%), along with averaging 2.1 blocks.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham pulled his main rotation players with 5:07 remaining in the fourth quarter on Tuesday, essentially conceding the loss with his team trailing 121-103.

It could have been an anticipatory move to save their legs to join Davis in Wednesday’s lineup against the Spurs.

“I made an executive decision to pull the plug,” Ham explained. “Knowing we have a game to play tomorrow, we have to give ourselves the best chance possible to win.”

Rui Hachimura, acquired in a trade on Monday, also will be available to play against the Spurs, according to Ham.

Nintendo Switch Ports We’d Love To See In 2023

Image: Nintendo Life

Early in 2022, we put out a list of 14 games we’d love to have on Switch. Since then, we’ve got at least five of them on Switch, so we’re either prescient or powerful. So, in hopes that 2023 will be similarly rewarding, we’re aiming this feature at you, Doug Bowser — we’d love to see the following games ported onto Nintendo’s hybrid console. You don’t even have to credit us, we’re just that nice.

The Big Games

Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD

Let’s start it off easy, eh? These two excellent Zelda remasters have been trapped on the Wii U for too long! Bring their glorious HD selves over to the Switch — bundle them together, even — and we’ll be happier than a Goron in a rockslide. We’ve already got Skyward Sword, which is arguably the hardest to port of those three games, so surely this pair can’t be far behind?

What are the chances?

Call us hopelessly optimistic, but we feel like there have been hints that this could happen for a while now, and we can’t see why Nintendo wouldn’t consider at least one of them an easy win. Still, rumours are not reality.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Again, we’ve already got Super Mario Galaxy 1 in that short-lived Super Mario 3D All-Stars bumper pack. SMG2 is one of the best Mario games of all time, and it would be such a boon to be able to play it on Switch, maybe even before the next Super Mario game (Odyssey 2, perhaps?) comes out. It’s been a while since we’ve bounced around with our second favourite Italian plumber, hasn’t it?

What are the chances?

Honestly, who knows with Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo gave us 3D All-Stars and then ripped it from our hands by taking it off sale (although it really isn’t hard to find even now). Behind the closed doors of the Japanese HQ, anything could be happening, but with Tears of the Kingdom on the slate, it sort of feels like it’s Mario’s turn to hog the spotlight next, you know?

Tomb Raider: Survivor Trilogy

This trilogy compilation release of Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal, was released for PS4 and Xbox One, so it stands to reason that they’d run well enough on Switch, too. They’re rather good games (with the original being a real stand-out late in the PS3 / Xbox 360 era) that tell the origin story of the iconic character, and they all have a flair for cinematic action and some occasional tomb raiding. Not all diehard fans of the IP approve of the games, but we reckon they’re a fun time.

What are the chances?

Low-ish, we’d say. This is an anniversary year for the franchise and would have been the ideal time, but Square Enix instead announced Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris for Switch, coming next year. Still, it’s better than nothing.

Batman: Arkham Collection

It sometimes feels like the Rocksteady developed ‘main’ Arkham games have been done a disservice. Not only was the ‘Return to Arkham’ PS4 / Xbox One collection a technical disappointment, but the newest entry (Arkham Knight) has gone unloved and hasn’t had any upgrades for the latest hardware. The trilogy, nevertheless, is comprised of three excellent games that would be awesome to play on Switch.

What are the chances?

It should be technically possible, though the third entry would be rather demanding to port across. The first two games should be do-able however, and let’s not forget that we had Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition and Batman: Arkham Origins on Wii U, and even Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate on 3DS (later in its HD form on Wii U). The precedent is there.

Will it actually happen? Considering the haphazard treatment of the games over the years probably not. Still, you never know…

Metroid Prime

With Metroid Prime 4 scheduled to be with us sometime prior to Halley’s Comet return, whispers abound that Nintendo is sitting on a remastered version of Metroid Prime, just waiting for the right time to pull the trigger and whet everyone’s appetite ahead of MP4’s arrival. We’d rather have the trilogy in a simple HD port, to be honest, but it’s not our decision.

So, what are the chances this year?

Well, assuming that Prime 4 development is progressing — however slow-and-steady that progress may be — it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that we’ll see the rumoured Prime remaster, with Prime 4 to follow. Nintendo will want to start the Prime 4 Morph Ball rolling at some point, and releasing Metroid Prime on Switch would be a great way to do that.

Or, you know, the entire Prime trilogy. We’d take that, too.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

We got Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, remember? Remember the Wii U and Mass Effect 3? Sitting in a tree? K-I-S-S-I-N-G? Those were the days when EA execs looked at the Wii’s numbers and thought they better go all-in on Wii U. And just look how that turned out.

What are the chances?

Having been stung on Wii U, EA hasn’t bothered much with Switch. Since then, EA has also decided to go all-in on Xbox, with many of their games available through Microsoft’s Game Pass. Many of the games in this list will suffer from this — if something’s raking in the chips through Game Pass, why bother with Switch, where the game will run worse and make (probably) less money? This one ain’t that likely, unfortunately.

Fallout (any of them)

It is a crime that the Fallout series only has one game on Switch, and it’s the fun-but-forgettable mobile game, Fallout Shelter, and not New Vegas, Fallout 3, or Fallout 4. We’re relatively sure that each one of these games would make a fantastic Switch port, since ol’ Bethesda did such a great job porting over Skyrim to every platform ever, and Obsidian brought us Outer Worlds and Pillars of Eternity II, but they just haven’t materialised.

What are the chances?

Weeeeeell, Microsoft now owns both Obsidian and Bethesda, the two developers of the Fallout series, so… not very likely? But then again, the Switch has Minecraft, Ori, and (apparently) will be getting Call of Duty, too, so it’s not a zero chance. But you know how complicated company relationships can be, especially with rivals. We think this would be an easy win that could revitalise the older Fallout games for new audiences, but we aren’t Phil Spencer.

Dragon Age (any of them)

Oh, can you imagine how much fun it would be to play even just Dragon Age: Origins on Switch? Surely someone at BioWare or EA can polish up a 13-year-old game for a 5-year-old console, no? And if we managed to get Dragon Age II and the glorious Dragon Age: Inquisition on the Switch as well, we would probably be glued to that tiny screen for months. If Skyrim and The Witcher 3 can do it, Dragon Age Inquisition can do it, too!

What are the chances?

Pretty low, for the same reasons as Fallout and Mass Effect: Xbox and EA are unlikely to let these behemoths out of their stables. Microsoft is more willing to share than Sony, it’s true, but EA seems to have decided that the Switch isn’t worth their precious time (proof: the travesty that is FIFA on Switch. Sigh).

Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Another regular request of ours, 2020’s Yakuza: Like A Dragon and its Dragon Quest-loving turn-based gameplay would still be gratefully received on Switch.

What are the chances?

Still low, unfortunately. You would hope that the broad audience and colossal success of Switch might make the series’ producers reconsider putting the game on Nintendo’s console, but Sega isn’t the fastest company when it comes to gauging customer trends. As much as we’d love to see Ichiban become Switchiban, we might be asking too much.

Come on — Switchiban? Giving you solid gold over here!

Grand Theft Auto V

First up, it’s the fifth mainline entry in the GTA franchise. It introduced several new things to the series, the most significant being not gating the city from the beginning. Clunky in some ways, stunningly ambitious in others, the sheer scope of Rockstar’s environments is astonishing, and exploring Los Santos on Switch would be a fine thing — it was on PS3 and Xbox 360, for goodness’ sake!

What are the chances?

Not impossible from a technical standpoint (PS3 and Xbox 360 just about handled it), but the game’s biggest innovation makes a Switch port less likely; GTA Online is still a colossal money-spinner for Rockstar, so a port of an old game to a console with a patchy online reputation probably isn’t an in-house priority. And after GTA Trilogy’s launch state and the drubbing the developers received for it, there’s probably not much inclination on Rockstar’s part to get their hands dirty with a distraction like this. A shame.

Mad Max

Mad Max deserved better. Sure, it was a middle-of-the-road (pun intended) action-adventure that pulled from the Assassin’s Creed school of design — that is, “map icons, everywhere” — but it was really fun to careen around the desert in a souped-up jalopy. It deserves to be able to get back up, brush off the dirt, and have a second chance at life on the Switch.

What are the chances?

Pretty microscopic, in no small part due to the fact that no one has thought about this game much since its 2015 release. We would put our money on Avalanche and Warner Bros. wanting to do more productive things with their time than remastering a game that received a lukewarm reception even when it was shiny and new.

Shadow of Mordor

Speaking of games that were pretty cool but faded away into the cultural soup, Shadow of Mordor! This innovative Lord of the Rings spin-off introduced us to the Nemesis System, in which your enemies not only remember you, but you form a sort of relationship with them during the course of the story, watching them rise up the ranks to lead armies before you get to fight them again. We haven’t seen anything quite like it since.

What are the chances?

Hard to say exactly, but it’s been almost ten years since this game came out. Monolith has since been working on a Wonder Woman game, although there hasn’t been much news on that front other than a ton of recent new hires. Would they have the time to polish up Shadow of Mordor for us poor Switch players?

Tales of Arise

An action-RPG from Bandai Namco, Tales of Arise is the most entry in the Tales series featuring such games as Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia. This latest game was very well-received on other platforms, and we’d jump at the chance of playing it on Switch.

What are the chances?

Various games from the Tales series have appeared on Nintendo platforms over the years — including Switch — and Arise is an Unreal Engine 4 game, which Switch supports. That said, the series producer said back in August that there were “no plans” to bring the game to Switch — before also adding the usual ‘if we see demand’ caveat.

Marvel Snap

A dark horse in the race for 2022 Game of the Year, this mobile strategy card game came from nowhere to sweep a bunch of prizes. Apparently, it’s really good. And it’s a mobile game, which is easier to port over to Switch than a whole Fallout or whatever, right?

What are the chances?

We think the chances are surprisingly high, actually. It’s a simple enough game, without all the confusing complications behind other card games like Magic: The Gathering, and it’s got some stellar scores. It wouldn’t be that big of a step to bring it over to Switch now that it’s proved to be mega-popular, we reckon.

That’s all the big games we’d love to see on Switch next year, but keep going to page two to find out which stellar indies and mid-size games we’ve got on our list (spoilers: one of them is Papers, Please!)…

“I always thought we’d pull it off”: Vikings make largest comeback in NFL history

MINNEAPOLIS — Before Saturday, the largest NFL comeback was a Bills/Oilers playoff game in 1992–that was 32 points. The Vikings broke that record by winning 39-36 in overtime against the Indianapolis Colts after being down 33.

WCCO’s Ren Clayton caught up with the Vikings on their most recent win.

“It’s unbelievable. I came in here and shed tears thinking about it. All of the things that we’ve been through, and to be down by 33 at half, and come back with this team, with that fight to go and win the game, it’s definitely something crazy to think about,” said wide receiver Adam Thielen.

Minnesota had no points until K.J. Osborn scored with 8-plus minutes left in the third — the start of a 36-3 run.

“This has just been a day. It’s been so crazy. But if that was the spark that we needed to get us going I was happy I was able to do that,” said defensive back, Chandon Sullivan.

The Vikings did not play perfect football down the stretch and had two Chandon Sullivan fumble recoveries for touchdowns called back by the refs. Wins heal all.

“I always thought we’d pull it off. We’ve been doing it all year,” said safety Harrison Smith.

The Vikings could have clinched the division with a tie, but that would have done the comeback a disservice.

“It was everything you would want. A game like this to win the division, you would want it to be that difficult, you wouldn’t want it to come easy,” said offensive lineman Brian O’Neill.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver K.J. Osborn (17) celebrates with teammates Dalvin Cook (4) and T.J. Hockenson (87) after catching a 2-yard touchdown pass during the second half of an NFL football game against the Indianapolis Colts, Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, in Minneapolis.

More from Associated Press: Comeback king Vikings set NFL rally record in win vs. Colts

With the Minnesota Vikings gathered in their humbled locker room at halftime in a huge hole, cornerback Patrick Peterson set the tone for an historic escape by promising his offensive teammates the defense would do its part to hold the Indianapolis Colts.

“You just need five touchdowns,” Peterson told them. “That’s nothing.”

This rally sure was something, though.

The Vikings completed the biggest comeback in NFL history, erasing a 33-point deficit by beating the Colts 39-36 on Greg Joseph’s 40-yard field goal with three seconds left in overtime Saturday to win the NFC North division in their typical dramatic fashion.

Kirk Cousins passed for 460 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Vikings (11-3), who trailed 36-7 late in the third quarter and became just the third team in league history to win 10 games in a season by eight points or fewer.

“We’re going to grind it out until they tell us there’s no more ball left to play,” coach Kevin O’Connell said.

The Colts (4-9-1) landed on the infamous side of this list, just ahead of the Houston Oilers in the 1992 postseason. They blew a 32-point lead (35-3) and lost to Buffalo (41-38) in overtime.

“When you have chances to put people away, we’ve got to do a better job than we’ve done up until this point,” quarterback Matt Ryan said.

According to Sportradar data available since 1930, the Vikings became only the second team in 1,551 regular-season or playoff games to trail by 30 or more points and still win.

“Nothing fazes us. We showed that in Buffalo,” said Peterson, who aided a 33-30 overtime victory over the Bills on Nov. 13 after a 17-point deficit. “We showed that again today.”

The Vikings took this rally all the way to their second possession of overtime. Cousins hit K.J. Osborn — who caught the first score and had a career-high 157 yards — for 15 yards. He found Adam Thielen — who had the second of three fourth-quarter touchdown passes — for 21 yards. Then he threw to Justin Jefferson for 13 yards to move into range.

Ifeadi Odenigbo was called for delay of game for lying on Jefferson to try to keep the Vikings from setting up for the kick, putting Joseph 5 yards closer for the winner.

“It’s a special group, a lot of fighters,” Thielen said.

Colts interim coach Jeff Saturday didn’t exactly get conservative in this collapse. Ryan was stopped short on a fourth-and-1 sneak at the Minnesota 36 with 2:19 left in regulation. Then Cousins hit Dalvin Cook for a 64-yard touchdown on a screen pass on the next play and T.J. Hockenson for the 2-point conversion to tie the game before the 2-minute warning.

“We would have closed the game out and ended the game,” Saturday said. “I’m in. Everybody’s in. We didn’t convert.”

Outscored 33-0 in the fourth quarter of their most recent game, a 54-19 loss to Dallas on Dec. 4, the Colts came back fresh from their bye week and stunned the Vikings with a 33-0 halftime lead that was the second-largest in the NFL this season. Cincinnati led Carolina 35-0 on Nov. 6.

The intermission deficit for Minnesota was the second-biggest in franchise history, behind a 45-10 score at Seattle in 2002.

The Vikings even overcame a pair of fumble returns for touchdowns by Chandon Sullivan that were wiped out by the whistle.

“I know that there’s other games that don’t end like that. It was just cool to see everybody battle back and I’m just happy that I get to share this moment with my teammates,” linebacker Eric Kendricks said, wiping away tears.

YOU LIKE THAT?

The last team to overcome a deficit of 24-plus points to win a regular season game was Washington over Tampa Bay in 2015, when Cousins was the quarterback. The previous regular season comeback record was 28 points in 1980, when San Francisco rallied from down 35-7 to win 38-35.

ALARMING START

The special teams units bore the brunt of the brutal start for the Vikings. Dallis Flowers returned the opening kickoff 49 yards, and the Colts were in scoring position within seconds.

Odenigbo plowed past two blockers and sideswiped Ryan Wright’s punt with his right arm. JoJo Domann caught the deflected ball and returned it 24 yards for the too-easy score and a 10-0 lead.

Then with the Vikings trailing 20-0 on fourth-and-1 from their own 31, Wright’s pass on a fake punt sailed over Jalen Nailor’s head for a second straight turnover on downs.

JEFFERSON WATCH

Jefferson left the game twice for brief examination following jarring hits to the chest. On the second occurrence, Stephon Gilmore also got him in the facemask and drew an unnecessary roughness penalty in the fourth quarter.

Both times after Jefferson left the game, Cousins threw to Jalen Reagor on the next play and was intercepted after an apparent miscommunication on the routes. The first one was returned by Julian Blackmon for a 17-yard touchdown that made it 30-0 in the second quarter.

Jefferson had 12 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown and raised his season total to 1,623 receiving yards. Calvin Johnson’s all-time record of 1,964 yards was set in 16 games in 2012.

INJURY REPORT

Colts: RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) left the game on the opening drive after a hard tackle as he tumbled out of bounds. He missed three games with the injury earlier this season.

Vikings: LT Christian Darrisaw returned from a three-game absence for a concussion. He limped off twice in overtime with leg cramps. Peterson left briefly with the same problem.

UP NEXT

Colts: Host the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 26.

Vikings: Host the New York Giants on Dec. 24.

Six NFL trades we’d love to see: Bradley Chubb to Cowboys, Brandin Cooks to Packers

The biggest name is already off the NFL trade market, with the 49ers landing running back Christian McCaffrey last week. And the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs each made splashes this week, with Philadelphia adding Bears pass-rusher Robert Quinn to an already impressive defense, and the Chiefs acquiring the electric Kadarius Toney from the Giants.

But plenty of intrigue remains as Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline draws near.

A number of anticipated contenders have faltered during the initial stretch of the season. These teams might look to the trade market to help themselves get back on track.

So, as we wait to see how things unfold, we’re kicking around ideas on deals that may or may not happen — but, in our opinion, should.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe and Mike Jones came up three proposals apiece. One writer details why each deal makes sense, and the other explains why it might not.

Mike Jones’ three trade proposals

Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks to Packers for fifth-round pick

Jones’ why: Aaron Rodgers and the Packers desperately miss Davante Adams, and there’s no one on the trade market who can fully fill those shoes. But right now, Rodgers badly needs a veteran wide receiver who understands the concepts of the offense and where he is expected to be at all times. Cooks — stranded in Houston, where the Texans will likely vie for the top pick of the draft — can help. He played in the same offense for Packers coach Matt LaFleur’s good buddy Sean McVay while a member of the Rams in 2018 and 2019 (LaFleur served as the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2017). At 29, Cooks still has plenty left in the tank while coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. In all, Cooks has topped the 1,000-yard mark in six of the last seven seasons during stops in New Orleans, New England, L.A. and Houston. While some wide receivers struggle to find comfort with a new team midseason, Cooks would have a good chance of making a near-instant impact.

Howe’s why not: The last time the Packers traded for a wide receiver, it involved Rodgers’ friend Randall Cobb. Part of the Packers’ offensive problems this season has been Rodgers’ lack of trust with the young receivers. So the question is whether Rodgers and Cooks can create enough immediate chemistry to make a tangible difference, with the Packers essentially in win-now mode for the final 10 games. That doesn’t mean Green Bay should wave the white flag and ignore all potential receiver acquisitions, but there should be some level of skepticism involved.

GO DEEPER

Vic’s Picks, Week 8: Aaron Rodgers has a point about the Packers

Patriots offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn to Rams for middle-round pick

Jones’ why: The defending Super Bowl champion Rams have struggled a good deal this season, and a lot of that has to do with injuries along their offensive line. Through six games, Matthew Stafford has been sacked 22 times (third-highest total in the league), and the Rams average just 70.5 rushing yards per game (31st in the NFL). After losing left tackle Joe Noteboom to a torn Achilles tendon last week, the Rams’ sense of urgency to fortify the line ratcheted up that much more. Wynn, the 23rd pick of the 2018 draft, spent the last three seasons at left tackle for New England but fell out of favor with the coaching staff. A trade to the Rams could benefit all parties involved.

Howe’s why not: Wynn is having his worst season in New England, although it’s fair to wonder how much the move to right tackle has thrown him off. But even with that in mind, the Patriots would have to be comfortable with Marcus Cannon and Yodny Cajuste at right tackle for the final 10 games. They also have to operate under the likelihood left tackle Trent Brown will miss time, as he hasn’t made it through a full season since 2018 (one of just two times in his eight-year career that’s happened). With the Patriots’ QB situation off the rails at the moment, a move that depletes the offensive line — regardless of how Patriots fans feel about Wynn — may not be in their best interest.

Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to Ravens for two middle-round picks

Jones’ why: There’s no way the Ravens will keep pace with the Chiefs and the Bills if they don’t get Lamar Jackson some more consistent and impactful weapons. Jeudy, who has averaged 17 yards or better per catch in two of his three NFL seasons, definitely helps fill this need. Jeudy has been mentioned as a potential target for Green Bay, but the Packers brass and Rodgers may prefer a veteran. The Giants and Rams also have been mentioned as potential destinations for Jeudy, but Baltimore and Jackson need someone like him in the worst way.

GO DEEPER

NFL trade deadline picks for all 32 teams: Jerry Jeudy, Cam Akers and more

Howe’s why not: I’m all in on this one. I can’t even give a “why not.” The Ravens’ offense has a heavy emphasis on game-breaking plays, either with Jackson or the athletic skill players, and Jeudy would add to that. It could also be a nice negotiating tactic for general manager Eric DeCosta to show Jackson they’ll make moves to improve the offensive talent around him. Jeudy hasn’t taken off in Denver, but who really has since he got there in 2020? He has made a handful of plays that validated the talent the football world saw from him at Alabama, and he’d have a terrific chance to resurrect that potential in Baltimore.

The Lions seem unlikely to trade tight end T.J. Hockenson. But would a first-round pick get a deal done? (Kirthmon F. Dozier / USA Today)

Jeff Howe’s three trade proposals

Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson to Bucs for 2023 first-round pick, 2024 fourth-round pick

Howe’s why: OK, so there’s no reason to believe Hockenson is on the trade block, but this would be a tough offer for the Lions to ignore. They already have the inside track on a top-five pick with their own draft selection, which should be used on a quarterback, and another first-rounder from the Rams. Throw in a third opening-round pick, and the Lions would control the draft board. Maybe they’d even get lucky enough to get a quarterback and — possibly through another trade — Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson to pair up with Aidan Hutchinson. For the Bucs, their offensive issues can’t be traced to a singular spot, but the lack of a star-caliber tight end certainly hasn’t helped. Hockenson is under contract through his fifth-year option in 2023, so that’s important, too. Aside from getting their offense going as soon as possible, the Bucs also have to be thinking about Tom Brady’s future. Brady, an impending free agent who can’t be tagged, could simply choose to retire, or maybe he’ll be concerned that the offense can’t be fixed in its current state and look to play elsewhere. It’s conceivable the addition of Hockenson could play a part in swaying that decision.

Jones’ why not: That’s a steep price, and considering that they may have to use a first-rounder on a quarterback next season, I don’t see the Bucs forking over that much. Yes, a tight end of Hockenson’s caliber would help. But not at that price.

Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb to Cowboys for 2023 and 2024 third-round pick

Howe’s why: The Cowboys boast the league’s most tenacious defense, and Chubb might be the most dangerous defender on the trade block. Dallas will remain as dangerous as Micah Parsons allows them to be, but the addition of Chubb would create yet another headache for opposing offenses. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn could build the pass rush around DeMarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong and Chubb, then give Parsons even more freedom to move around. As for the Broncos, Chubb is still worth building around, but their defense will remain solid regardless and they need to recoup draft assets after the Russell Wilson trade. If they don’t believe Chubb will sign an extension after the season — or if they believe he’ll exceed their budget — it makes sense to move him now.

GO DEEPER

Broncos players on Bradley Chubb trade talk: ‘Hope he’s with us for a long time’

Jones’ why not: Man, an already beastly Cowboys defense gets even more dangerous, huh? I like it, but there could be even more desperate teams in pursuit of Chubb. One? The Rams, who still badly miss Von Miller and would like to add a pass-rusher at the deadline. They don’t have a first-round pick to dangle, but they do have a second- and a third-rounder in 2023.

Falcons center Matt Hennessy, Ravens guard Ben Cleveland, Bengals guard Jackson Carman, Patriots right tackle Isaiah Wynn, Eagles left tackle Andre Dillard to Rams

Falcons receive: 2023 sixth-round pick

Ravens receive: 2023 sixth-round pick

Bengals receive: 2023 seventh-round pick

Patriots receive: 2024 fourth-round pick

Eagles receive: 2024 third-round pick

Howe’s why: We had to search through some old storage closets to find some of the Rams’ spare draft picks, and they do have additional late-round assets due to prior trades. Granted, they might never draft again, but Southern California is a beautiful place to explore in late April anyway. Back on track, no, it’s not realistic to believe the Rams will overhaul their entire offensive line in the middle of the season, but this option exists if they’re willing to go the extremely unconventional route. Their line has let them down during their 3-3 start, and it’s an area that hasn’t gotten enough attention in recent drafts, so they can borrow from future drafts to get themselves heading in a better direction. The Athletic’s beat reporters stockpiled a list of trade candidates last week, and they coincidentally included two tackles, two guards and a center. It all fell into place.

Jones’ why not: Hold up! You just pooh-poohed my Wynn to the Rams idea, so I’m saying absolutely not. Your deal doesn’t work! Haha, in all seriousness, I like the aggressive mindset in completely overhauling the entire offensive line, but I don’t see this happening. I think the Rams would like to address both sides of the ball, and they have only a limited number of draft picks to acquire talent. So, one offensive lineman, yes. And then a pass-rusher, which may require multiple picks to secure.

NFL trade deadline: nine deals we’d like to see

When it comes to the trade deadline, good general managers are now like the eBay consumer who selects the “buy it now” option instead of waiting for the final moments of the auction. The old adage that deadlines spur action really applies only to contracts in the NFL now (because owners are some combination of stingy, distant and performative). The trade deadline, as it stands, has all but fizzled out.

Robert Quinn (Eagles), James Robinson (Jets), Christian McCaffrey (49ers), Johnathan Hankins (Cowboys) and Robbie Anderson (Cardinals) have already found new homes. If a team really wanted someone, they’ve gone out and acquired them, instead of waiting for an arbitrary time and date (in this case, 4 p.m. ET Tuesday) to tell them when they should.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun (or that you shouldn’t still try a few eBay auctions, because sniping someone with the suggested bid increase at the final second for that Bailey Zappe rookie card is incredibly satisfying). While another blockbuster may shake the league’s very foundation, it’s up to us to come up with the best trades that should have happened. Or still might! Teams can’t believe this, but the advice we offer here is completely and totally free.

In preparation for this exercise, I suggested a Robinson-to-the-Jets trade in our editor-to-writer Slack channel. While my editor, Mitch Goldich, offered a suggestion of Jameis Winston to the Colts the day before Indianapolis benched Matt Ryan for the season. We have time stamps to prove it and everything. I’d take that as an indication that our radar is at least somewhat functional.

But first …

The 5–2 Jets have been one of the surprises of the season. Could they make a move to chase a playoff spot?

Dan Powers/USA TODAY Network-Wisconsin/USA TODAY Network

Who should be buying

New York Jets

It all depends on what the Jets want to do here. Their remaining strength of schedule is brutal, and they will need to fortify, as they started to do with the Robinson trade. While it is not easy to play in this offensive line, there are now a lot of teams that have players who can do it. Ultimately, GM Joe Douglas will have to decide whether the unit he has can jell, which would be better than going star-hunting at the position. If he wants to gamble, for example, that the Browns would not pay Jack Conklin next year, it’s worth making a phone call. There is still time before he has to pay his quarterback, and George Fant is a free agent next year. The versatile Justin Pugh is from the Northeast and will be a free agent next year, as will the Panthers’ Cameron Erving, who has played every position under the sun on offense.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are now (probably) looking at the Bills the way the Bills have looked at the Chiefs the last few seasons. What matters now is a pass rush. They know they will be in contention late this season, and they know that Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson or Justin Herbert is going to be standing on his own 20 with 2:35 remaining on the clock needing a touchdown to tie it up. George Karlaftis will end up being a good player in this league. Frank Clark is nearing 30 and is currently serving a two-game suspension. They need help. Chris Jones has the highest pass-rush win rate for an interior lineman in the NFL; now imagine being able to collapse the pocket from all sides.

Buffalo Bills

At this point, the Bills have to be looking at depth in the secondary as a major need. While their defense has played extraordinarily well, and we’ve seen how expertly coached-up their replacement players are, it would be inexcusable to allow the most talented team in the league to lose a game in late January, because they didn’t feel like spending a third- or fourth-round pick at the deadline. They also need to be looking at any versatile offensive weapon on the market, because so is any other team hoping to contend with them for a conference title.

Green Bay Packers

This one is obvious. Their offensive line is broken, their wide receiving corps is, according to Aaron Rodgers, mistake-prone and underperforming. Their power/factor back AJ Dillon can’t break tackles. Take your pick. In the remaining time Rodgers has in the league, every season has to be an all-in proposition. Let’s see whether management feels the same way.

Miami Dolphins

With Tua Tagovailoa healthy, the Dolphins have to decide whether they want to push the gas pedal or settle into a more conservative rhythm with their roster-building strategy. They still have a first-round pick from the 49ers coming this year, despite losing another one due to the Stephen Ross tampering scandal. The Dolphins are inching toward that 10–7 or 9–8 purgatory. It’s safe to say that their coaching staff should have them dreaming a little bigger.

Tennessee Titans

The AFC South is an absolute mess right now, and the Titans have uppercutted their way out of a dismal start to the season. They should now allow themselves the luxury of supplementing the offense. Give Derrick Henry a spell with one of the hundred talented running backs theoretically on the market. Give Ryan Tannehill somewhere to throw the ball. Robert Woods can’t do this by himself.

Minnesota Vikings

The Packers are reeling, so it’s time to put a foot on the pedal. Simple as that. The Vikings are a little bit better than their division rivals right at this moment. The Packers are going to wake up at some point, and when they do, the Vikings would like to be so comfortably ahead in the NFC North that it doesn’t matter to them. Luckily, help may not be that hard to find for the league’s 24th-best defense, according to DVOA rankings. Their defense is a Vic Fangio tribute, and so are most in the league right now.

Philadelphia Eagles

Similar to the Bills, the Eagles have to be looking at the opportunities presented to them, the age of their offensive line and some of their best defensive players, and the contractual window in which Jalen Hurts sits and think: “no excuses.” They are comfortably the best team in the NFC right now and have the juice to make a deep playoff run. While they would obviously like to protect the chemistry that coach Nick Sirianni has in place, they cannot allow another divisional contender to steal a difference-maker.

Who should be selling

It is time for the Saints to think about turning the page from this era.

Matt Kartozian/USA TODAY Sports

New York Jets

Yes, we are listing the Jets in both sections. I think if you’re Douglas, it’s O.K. to have a fluid situation. You can be building for the future and building for now. Coach Robert Saleh has his thumb on the culture there, and if a pair of malcontent wide receivers, Elijah Moore and Denzel Mims, are weighing down the operation, they should let them go. Teams need wide receiver talent across the board, and while he may not be able to recoup the purchase price, he could possibly outdo what he’d receive in the compensatory formula.

New Orleans Saints

Time has run out on this version of the Saints, sadly, as we got into more last week. Their best defensive players are creeping into their mid-30s. They have great component pieces everywhere that could aid other teams in a deep run but no first-round pick next year. They need to at least bolster the mid-rounds of this draft to build a healthy middle class for their next great roster. We know Jeff Ireland is a whiz. Let him work.

Chicago Bears

The Bears have overperformed significantly to this point. They have overcome the narrative (to some degree) that they’ve completely hamstrung Justin Fields because they are brilliantly scheming games for him and putting him in positions to win. So, it would be a complete backbreaker if the club traded both Robert Quinn (already gone) and Darnell Mooney (still on the block) at this point, especially after an inspiring prime-time win over the Patriots. That said, the Bears have to ask themselves whether they’re prepared to hand Mooney a massive extension following the 2023 season (given the price of the receiver market), just as it was a prudent decision to decide Quinn isn’t worth more than $25 million in his age-33 and age-34 seasons. The Bears need more early- to mid-round picks to beef up this roster, as they’ll be using their high-end picks to replace premium positions of need.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have obviously begun their fire sale. Christian McCaffrey is gone. Robbie Anderson is gone. Brian Burns and D.J. Moore could be next. Shaq Thompson has been fantastic and is in the second-to-last year of his contract. Teams should be salivating over a linebacker who can still cover and defend the run, especially as we creep into the deepest part of the season when missed tackles and tiny checkdowns breaking for big gains could alter the course of a season.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are going to pin this season on Nathaniel Hackett to spare us the fact that this roster is O.K. and pinned together by a declining quarterback who doesn’t seem to have an interest in running the offense. If GM George Paton is here for the long haul, he’ll want to stockpile some picks for the next draft. Bradley Chubb is in the final year of his rookie deal, the Broncos have some expiring offensive line contracts and Hackett’s system translates to a lot of places around the league, including the tattered Packers from which Hackett came.

Houston Texans

Texans’ EVP Jack Easterby is out, which means so, too, will be any fingerprinting he had on the roster or the coaching staff. This is a young, bare-bones roster, and Brandin Cooks, one of their lone veteran talents, doesn’t have much of a tradeable contract, despite the fact that a burner would be extremely valuable to a few contenders right now. Jerry Hughes has been playing well and was in for his fewest number of snaps last week. The 34-year-old end could be a critical piece for a team in need of some veteran defensive line help.

Time to imagine players like Jeudy and Watt in different uniforms to close out this season.

Illustration by Bryce Wood; Cooper Neill/Getty Images (Jeudy); Michael Owens/Getty Images (Watt)

Trades we’d like to see

Jerry Jeudy to the Packers

The Broncos’ wide receiver would not be a replacement for Davante Adams, but would help the Packers build a more typical version of the Kyle Shanahan offense, which requires a burner and a bully. The Packers already have their bully in Allen Lazard (injury notwithstanding); now they need a burner, with most of their wide receivers sidelined by injury. Jeudy is not necessarily your route running technician, but he’s going to blow up defenses when paired with capable quarterback play.

Mac Jones to the Raiders

O.K., let’s get weird. The Raiders are on a year-to-year contract with Derek Carr, and Jones would provide them the flexibility to possibly move Carr if he isn’t jibing with Josh McDaniels’s offense. Remember, Jones looked good playing under McDaniels as a rookie. In return, the Patriots can get some draft capital that may help them take another swing at the position. Bill Belichick is the only person who could get away with something like this, and he’s the only coach who may be motivated to trade away an unhappy player regardless of draft position and status.

Kareem Hunt to the Titans

The Titans could outduel the Rams for Hunt, a versatile backfield threat who had a comfortable hold on the Browns’ passing-down role for a while. He’d be a capable checkdown option for Ryan Tannehill, whose running backs are second and third, respectively, on his target list. Hunt can add another big body to the backfield to help the Titans grind down opponents and bolster the play-action game for Tannehill.

Chase Claypool to the Rams

The Rams missed out on Christian McCaffrey but could find another way to bolster their motion and misdirection game in the backfield. Claypool has a fair amount of experience there with Matt Canada, the Steelers’ offensive coordinator who inspired some of Sean McVay’s best concepts. The Steelers are loaded at the wide receiver position and have to be imagining a scenario where they’re unable to pay everyone at this current wide receiver market rate.

Nyheim Hines to the Rams

Psych, Les Snead isn’t done yet. If Hines’s medical situation improves, the Colts could see a way to get some return for their backfield receiving threat. Hines has twice caught more than 60 balls in a season and, given the Rams’ thirst for Christian McCaffrey, they may be sending out feelers around the league for another back who can handle pass-catching responsibility and add an obvious speed flavor to the offense.

Shaq Thompson to the Chargers

In the age of the off-ball linebacker, the Chargers have struggled. As my podcast cohost Gary Gramling pointed out on this week’s MMQB Podcast, this is where Los Angeles truly needs a difference-maker. Thompson is on the Panthers, a team that is going to be selling at the deadline. He doesn’t miss a ton of tackles, he can blitz and he can cover adequately. This could help the Chargers stabilize their front seven.

J.J. Watt to the Chiefs

The Cardinals are never going to admit they’re out of it, and thus, will probably not be a factor at the deadline. However, they know this roster is developing one hole after another, and the ill-fated trade for Hollywood Brown didn’t come close to masking those tears in the fabric. We said the same thing a year ago before ultimately getting our hearts broken: Watt deserves to run out the clock on his career (however long that is) with a contender. He could mentor Karlaftis and provide an immediate spark.

Stephon Gilmore to the Ravens (or back to the Bills!)

Gilmore, at age 32, is having one of his best seasons in years. The heady cornerback star, once the best in the NFL at his position, is still trustworthy on top wide receiver talent and has experience in myriad defenses. The Ravens, who have one of the worst dropback success rates in the NFL, could see this as a typical move under GM Eric DeCosta and coach John Harbaugh, to add a high-character vet who would pay immediate dividends. The same could be said for the Bills, the team that drafted Gilmore in the first place.

Jerry Hughes to the Bills

How cool would it be if the Bills brought back both Hughes and Gilmore for the stretch run? We’re talking about playing perfect situational football in big moments and also not messing with team chemistry. Hughes can mentor the young pass rushers and provide critical moments of sound football. Gilmore, similarly, could be a dependable asset on the back end and ensure their quality depth stays that way.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz wed in early-evening ceremony in front of celebrity guests

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz have tied the knot in a stunning early-evening ceremony and enjoy lingering six-second kiss in front of celebrity guests in including Eva Longoria, Mel C, and tennis legend Serena Williams.

The proceedings started at 6pm sharp when Brooklyn, 23, was joined by his 27-year-old bride for the nuptials in one of the massive tented structures set up at the Peltz $103million family estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

He could be seen waiting on his own on a stage garlanded with flowers and plants for 15 minutes before actress Nicola arrived for the $4million extravaganza.

Congratulations! Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz have tied the knot (pictured during ceremony) in a stunning early-evening ceremony beside the ocean surrounded by celebrities including tennis legend Serena Williams

I do! Brooklyn and Nicola shared a lingering six-second kiss in front of celebrity guests after Brooklyn – in keeping with tradition – smashed a glass wrapped in a napkin under his heel after he and Nicola were married by a rabbi

Meanwhile, it appeared there were six groomsmen who joined him on his right and six maids of honour who placed themselves to his left.

The aspiring chef chose brothers Romeo and Cruz, 17, as his best men for his much-publicised marriage to the daughter of billionaire financier Nelson Peltz, 79.

As exclusively predicted by DailyMail.com, the couple wed under a flower-garlanded chuppah in traditional Jewish ceremony in honour of Nicola’s Jewish heritage.

Brooklyn also has some Jewish heritage through his soccer legend father David, 46, whose maternal grandfather was Jewish.

The wedding took place in the first of the giant white tented structures filling the massive ocean front lawn, which was on the left looking at the Peltz mansion from the ocean.

After the ceremony, the guests moved to the centre tent, which has been dedicated to house a cocktail event.

They will then move to the third marquee, on the right, for the wedding banquet with food from celebrated Miami chef Thierry Isambert who used to cook for President Bill Clinton.

Bulldogs are popular with the Peltz family as Nicola and Brooklyn had a brown hound called Frankie, who sadly died last year, while her actor brother Will, 35, has a black bulldog called Libra and her other brother Bradley has one called Mr Chow.

Elsewhere, bikini-clad Palm Beach locals were seen checking out the lavish nuptials on Saturday as they were seen snapping photographs and posing for selfies while enjoying a fun-filled boat trip.

The Peltz oceanfront estate, owned by Nicola’s parents Nelson and Claudia, boasts two large properties and a sprawling driveway leading to a courtyard lined with palm trees.

The complex also features outdoor tennis and basketball courts and a stunning pool surrounded by a large terrace with space for guests to kick back and soak up the sun.

On Friday night, some of the celebrity guests were revealed as they arrived at a rehearsal dinner, including Gordon and his wife Tana and daughter Holly, Eva, Serena and Nicola’s parents.

A timeline of Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s romance:

  • November 2019: Nicola and Brooklyn first go public with their budding relationship in November 2019 when pictures emerged of them hugging after attending a Halloween party together
  • January 2020: Nicola went Instagram official with their romance, posting a bedroom selfie in a bra, with a shirtless Brooklyn in the foreground, captioned with a simple black heart

  • April 2022: They get married in an early-evening $4million Jewish ceremony at Nicola Peltz’s $103million family estate in Palm Beach, Florida

Brooklyn is understood to have signed a prenuptial agreement with heiress Nicola before the wedding. The $494million fortune of Brooklyn’s parents is dwarfed by the estimated $1.6billion wealth of Nicola’s financier father Nelson.

Nicola recruited Leslie Fremar – a stylist who has worked with Hollywood A-listers Demi Moore and Charlize Theron – to help choose her dress.

The pair travelled to the headquarters of Valentino in Rome and Nicola’s gown was designed by the fashion house’s Pierpaolo Piccioli.

From the middle of last week, trucks started to arrive in Palm Beach, and police were patrolling the vicinity of the estate.

The marquees are of a size usually rented for trade fairs. Each could comfortably hold 1,000 people — and there were three of them on the lawn at the Peltz’s $103million estate.

The largest apparently held a dance floor where rapper Snoop Dogg is going to DJ.

The food was apparently provided by Miami chef Thierry Isambert, who has previously cooked for former U.S. president Bill Clinton.

Dietary choices include the usual vegan and vegetarian options, but also stretch to allergy-specific choices and even a ‘light’ option, which comes in underneath a certain calorie-counted ceiling.

In true 21st-century fashion, Vogue magazine has photographers and videographers on hand to document every moment.

A source said: ‘It’s a nice event, not too big, it will be black tie.

‘There is heavy security and the hundreds of guests have been asked not to share pictures of the bride and groom as they have an exclusive arrangement with Vogue, who will put pictures up on their website.

Lots of the guests are bringing their own hair and make-up artists — it’s that sort of event.’

Along with a full flush of Spice Girls, there was David’s best friend Dave Gardner and Gordon and Tana Ramsay and their five children at the wedding.

Victoria’s sister Louise and her daughter Libby were in Miami, as were Victoria’s parents Tony and Jackie.

David’s parents Sandra and Ted were also there, along with his sister Jo.

Brooklyn’s brothers Romeo and Cruz were groomsmen, the bride’s brother Brandon was ‘Man of Honour’ and Harper, ten, was a bridesmaid.

The bride’s maternal grandmother Bunny was Maid of Honour.

Nicola and Brooklyn enjoyed a whirlwind romance after first going public with their budding relationship in November 2019 when pictures emerged of them hugging before getting engaged in July 2020, just eight months later.

While their relationship officially began in 2019, they actually first met in 2017 – with Brooklyn revealing during an Instagram Q&A with followers that they were originally introduced at the Coachella music festival in California.

At the time of Coachella Brooklyn was dating Hana Cross, but he and Nicola reconnected two years later at a Halloween party.

In January 2020, Nicola went Instagram official with their romance, posting a bedroom selfie in a bra, with a shirtless Brooklyn in the foreground, captioned with a simple black heart.

The next month they sat front row in coordinating outfits at the Saint Laurent show at Paris Fashion Week.

In July that year, Brooklyn proposed with a $325,000 emerald and diamond ring, sharing the news online by posting: ‘I asked my soulmate to marry me, and she said yes xx I am the luckiest man in the world. I promise to be the best husband and the best daddy one day.’

Man of the moment: Brooklyn was seen at the estate on Friday ahead of the wedding, looking happy and relaxed

In her own post, Nicola said: ‘You’ve made me the luckiest girl in the world. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life by your side.’

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the pair’s relationship grew quickly and they were spotted taking walks together during quarantine after bubbling up together when lockdown first came into effect in March 2020.

Later in the summer, Brooklyn moved back home to quarantine with his parents, but his relationship with Nicola continued to go from strength to strength.

The pair then nought a plush $9.7m home in Beverly Hills, complete with a private yoga room, gym, outdoor infinity pool and even a juice bar.

Invited: Guests including Gordon Ramsay, Dave Gardner and Eva Longoria attended the wedding

The property that hosted Saturday’s wedding has been owned for decades by investor and billionaire money manager Nelson Peltz and his wife, former model Claudia Heffner and is comprised of three separate lots for a total of 11.1 acres of beach-front land.

The real estate is partly occupied by buildings boasting a total 25,000 square feet and as many as 16 bathrooms.

In size, the property is second to Trump’s 17-acre Mar-a-Lago, but the astronomic price of Peltz’s place makes it much more valuable.

Celebrities: Eva Longoria (left) and Serena Williams (right) were seen attending the rehearsal dinner together on Friday night

Outfits: Romeo Beckham’s girlfriend Mia Regan shared a snap of the couple’s rehearsal dinner outfits, as she donned a yellow dress while Romeo wore a pink suit

Family: Nicola is the daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, 79, and model Claudia Heffner

According to Palm Beach County property tax records, the wedding venue has been valued at over $100,000,000 – even if local realtors claims the property could sell for twice to three times as much if it were put up for sale.

Records show Nelson Peltz’s contribution to the wealth of the area through yearly property taxes for the compound is a total $2,180,540.

Peltz is said to be worth $1.7 billion, according to Forbes.

The Peltzes, however, aren’t the only rich and famous residents of Billionaires’ Row.

Love: Brooklyn and Nicola began dating just before the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020, having met two years earlier
