Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s docuseries seen as ‘fluff and nonsense’ within ‘palace walls’: royal expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” has viewers talking. And, according to one royal expert, it’s not in a good way.

Neil Sean was a guest on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” Friday and said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix show has been perceived as “fluff and nonsense” to people in the U.K., and those “particularly within palace walls.”

MacCallum shared a clip of Harry in the series claiming his brother, Prince William, screamed and shouted at him when Harry decided to step away from royal duties in 2020 and move to California with Meghan Markle.

“It’s seen over here, and particularly within palace walls, as just fluff and nonsense,” Sean said. “The bigger problem, Martha, is this: The continuation of the tissue of lies that, of course, Meghan [Markle] and Harry have presented about staff working within the palace. That’s the bigger problem.”

Sean mentioned the moment of Harry flashing his phone to the screen, alleging an aggressive text message from William.

“Really, there’s no recollection of that particular text from William to Harry,” Sean said. “So what was on it? And why didn’t you show it to the camera? Is it really true is a question that a lot of people are asking over here.”

King Charles III and the royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, have not publicly commented on the docuseries and have been conducting business as usual.

‘Strong stench’ coming from newly built apartment in S. Korea turns out to be human feces in walls

A resident of a newly built apartment building in South Korea began noticing an odor coming from their master bedroom’s closet that became increasingly worse, later discovering three bags of human feces hidden inside a space in the ceiling.

The apartment building, located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province, had only recently been built. As new residents began to move in, one noticed a “strong stench” coming from the walls of the master bedroom’s closet. The resident, who moved into the apartment in May, stated that as the weather got hotter, the odor became stronger.

On May 29, the resident requested an inspection. On July 2, an official from the construction company inspected various parts of the home, including the plumbing, floors, walls and ceiling. Upon investigating, three plastic bags filled with human feces were found hidden inside a space in the ceiling of the master bedroom’s closet.

“As soon as the construction company employees removed the ceiling light, a strong odor began filling the room from that hole. They couldn’t even film or take photos of the evidence [due to the stench] and left with the bags as soon as possible,” the resident told Yonhap News.

A man who lived next door also stated that he smelled an odor coming from the closet, and his wife, who is five months pregnant, began suffering headaches due to the stench.

Officials believe that construction workers had left the bags full of their waste while finishing interior work for the apartment.

The residents stated that they have not received a proper apology and that their requests to have the ceiling and walls replaced have not yet been answered. They were also told to call a professional company to have deodorization work done.

“It’s already been 17 days since the bag was discovered, but the construction company is saying that removing the wallpaper and ceiling, sterilizing it and spraying liquid detergent is a deodorizing operation. It’s been done, but I’m not sure how the construction company did it because the smell is still so strong that it gives me a headache,” the resident said.

An official from the construction company stated that they plan to compensate the victims for damages as soon as possible.

Invisible Walls In Space May Explain a Problem That Has Been Perplexing Scientists

One of the biggest challenges to our traditional understanding of the cosmos is something called the “satellite disk problem.” In essence, scientists are confused because smaller galaxies orbit larger galaxies in thin, flat planes rather than the messier orbits that would be expected under the Lambda cold dark matter (ΛCDM) model — the “fanastically successful paradigm” that defines how we observe space.

In order to get around this issue, scientists are now positing that particles called “symmetrons” are generating invisible walls in space, which astronomers refer to as “domain walls.” This in turn creates what astronomers Aneesh Naik and Clare Burrage of the University of Nottingham describe as a potential “fifth force” in physics.

Scientists think they may have an explanation for why smaller galaxies orbit larger galaxies on thing, flat planes. Image Credit: NASA Image and Video Library

In a new article found here, as reported by BGR, the pair say they were able to demonstrate the effect using a “simple simulations of a toy model comprising point-like satellites and an infinite domain wall.” The new theory is notable because it explains the satellite disk problem without doing away with dark matter.

Dark matter is a nonluminous material that accounts for approximately 85 percent of the matter in the universe. It can take several forms, from weakly interacting particles to high-energy randomly moving particles created in the wake of the Big Bang.

Dark matter is still not well understood by scientists. Just recently, scientists were baffled by a diffuse galaxy that appeared to be lacking dark matter. Like so much of the rest of the universe, its true nature remains a mystery.

In the meantime, scientists will continue to investigate the potential of “symmetrons” with more detailed simulations. Walls closing in on Russia’s propaganda machine

Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine has finally pushed Western institutions to crack down on Russian state-backed media outlets like RT, Sputnik and TASS, which have long served as a propaganda arm of the Kremlin.

Why it matters: Russia seeded the war through disinformation spread by its state-backed media channels. It still relies on those networks to spread disinformation beyond its borders and to sell the war as a success domestically.

Driving the news: The European Commission has said it will ban “the Kremlin’s media machine” in the EU. RT, Sputnik and other outlets “will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted.

  • Several companies, including Google, TikTok, Facebook and Microsoft, are already carrying out that ban and are restricting access to Russian state-owned media within the EU.
  • The U.K.’s media regulator, Ofcom, said Monday it’s launching 15 investigations into RT, Russia’s state-backed television channel.
  • A group of leading Ukrainian media groups wrote an open letter to global TV providers urging them to stop distributing Russian state networks.

What we’re watching: Crackdowns from private companies, including Big Tech platforms, may prove even more potent, given how much Russian state media has relied on social networks to spread disinformation.

  • Microsoft’s Start platform, which includes MSN.com, will not display any state-sponsored RT and Sputnik content, and it’s removing the RT news apps from its Windows app store.
  • Twitter on Monday said it will start labeling all tweets that contain content from Russian state-affiliated media websites, and will reduce the visibility and amplification of any tweets that contain content from Russian state media.
  • Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has restricted access to several accounts in Ukraine, including those belonging to some Russian state media, at the request of the Ukrainian government. Meta said it’s also reviewing other government requests to restrict Russian state controlled media.
  • YouTube is “significantly limiting recommendations” to Russian state media channels, a spokesperson told Axios.
  • Netflix said it will defy a Russian law ordering it to add state propaganda channels to its service there.

Yes, and: Google, YouTube, Microsoft, Twitter and Facebook have all restricted or banned Russian state media organizations from selling ads.

What to watch: TV distributors in the U.S. are facing pressure to remove Russian state media from their platforms, though they largely haven’t done so yet.

  • Roku is removing RT in Europe from the Roku Channel store.
  • Dish said in a statement “Our thoughts are with all the people of Ukraine, and particularly with our team members in the country. We are closely monitoring the situation.”
  • DirecTV, which also carries the network, did not respond to request for comment.

Strange Quantum Object Successfully Created in The Lab For The First Time

Quantum mechanics – the behavior of the Universe at the smallest of scales – continues to surprise us, with scientists now having been able to successfully create a quantum object called a domain wall in laboratory settings.

For the first time, these walls can now be generated in the lab on demand, occurring when atoms stored at very cold temperatures – a scenario known as a Bose-Einstein condensate – group together in domains under certain conditions. The walls are the junctions between these domains.

The researchers creating these domain walls say they could end up shedding new light on many different areas of quantum mechanics, including quantum electronics, quantum memory, and the behavior of exotic quantum particles.

“It’s kind of like a sand dune in the desert – it’s made up of sand, but the dune acts like an object that behaves differently from individual grains of sand,” says physicist Kai-Xuan Yao from the University of Chicago.

There has been previous research into domain walls, but they’ve never been able to be created at will in the laboratory until now, giving scientists the ability to analyze them in new ways. It turns out they act as independent quantum objects, but not necessarily in the way that scientists would expect them to.

That unexpected behavior means domain walls join a class of objects called emergent phenomena, where particles that join together seem to follow a different set of physics laws than particles that are operating on their own.

One of the unusual observations made by the team is the way that domain walls react to electric fields, something which will need further study to untangle. For now, just being able to produce and manipulate these walls is an important step forward.

“We have a lot of experience in controlling atoms,” says physicist Cheng Chin from the University of Chicago. “We know if you push atoms to the right, they will move right. But here, if you push the domain wall to the right, it moves left.”

Part of the reason why the discovery is so important is that it could teach us more about how atoms behaved at the very beginning of the Universe’s existence: Particles that were once clumped together eventually expanded to form stars and planets, and scientists would like to know exactly how that happened.

This domain wall discovery falls under the umbrella of what’s known as dynamical gauge theory – a way to test and compute the dynamics of quantum phenomena in the lab. These discoveries could explain how emergent phenomena operate in everything from materials to the early Universe.

As well as looking backwards though, the researchers are also looking forwards. Once more is understood about how domain walls can be controlled, it could open up opportunities for new quantum technologies.

“There may be applications for this phenomenon in terms of making programmable quantum material or quantum information processors,” says Chin.

“It can be used to create a more robust way to store quantum information or enable new functions in materials. But before we can find that out, the first step is to understand how to control them.”

The research has been published in Nature.

Amazon reportedly developing Echo for walls, sound bar, new car tech

David Limp, senior vice president of devices and services at Amazon.com Inc., presents the Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker during an unveiling event at the company’s Spheres headquarters in Seattle, Washington, U.S., on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018.

Amazon is working on a wall-mounted Echo and a TV sound bar, along with updates to its car technology and wearable devices, according to a Bloomberg report Friday that cites internal documents and sources familiar with the matter.

Amazon could expand its lineup of smart screen Echo Show devices. The company is planning an Alexa-controlled Echo with a roughly 15-inch display that can be mounted on a wall or placed on a stand, according to the report. It could serve as a control panel for smart home devices and be placed in the kitchen to show recipes or other helpful information, the report said.

The company is also planning a sound bar for TVs that’s equipped with a front-facing camera, which could allow users to take video calls from their TVs, Bloomberg reported.

Other products that could be in the pipeline, according to the report, include a second-generation model of its Echo Auto technology and a broader push into wearables beyond its Halo fitness tracker, which launched last August. It’s exploring a wearable targeted for kids and another for senior citizens that’s able to detect when they fall, among other uses, Bloomberg reported.

Amazon’s home robot, another much-anticipated launch, could be far off, according to Bloomberg. Multiple reports have speculated the company is working on on a robot that’s controlled by voice and can roam around the home using built-in cameras. Amazon has begun tests of a prototype version of the device, but the robot has generated concerns internally around its viability, Bloomberg said.

The report comes as Amazon is set to announce new devices at an event Sept. 28. Amazon typically holds an in-person hardware event at its Seattle headquarters, but like last year, it’s holding a streaming event online. Some of the devices Bloomberg mentioned could be announced at the event, while others may be launched later on or scrapped entirely, the report said.

An Amazon spokesperson said the company doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation.

East Notes: Rays, Walls, Yankees, Britton, Mets, Peterson, Syndergaard

The Rays have activated Taylor Walls from the injured list, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times (via Twitter). The move comes after Luis Patino was optioned back to Triple-A yesterday. Walls would give manager Kevin Cash a five-man bench, which would be unusual for the Rays. Still, for now, Walls is back on the active roster, having recovered from a bout of wrist tendonitis. Certainly, the return of Walls puts the immediate future of Wander Franco into question, though there’s been no indication of a roster move at this time. For what it’s worth, Walls held his own with a .222/.337/.333 line in 95 plate appearances, good for a 96 wRC+to pair with stellar marks on the defensive side of the ball — he was credited with 8 DRS, 2.0 UZR, and 2 Outs Above Average in just 214 1/3 innings at short. Staying on the East Coast…

  • Zack Britton is throwing off the mound today for the first time since going on the injured list. He is eligible to return to the Yankees on Monday, per Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News (via Twitter). Britton has just five appearances on the season. The Yankees might very well try to get him back into games ahead of the All-Star break so as to allow for a measured ramping up process.
  • As for the Mets, David Peterson has been diagnosed with a strained right oblique that will keep him out for around eight weeks, at best guess, but maybe less, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com (via Twitter). It hasn’t been a great year for Peterson, who owns a 5.54 ERA/4.77 FIP through 115 starts totaling 66 2/3 innings.
  • Noah Syndergaard, meanwhile, was throwing today, but he timetable remains the same. The Mets are looking tentatively at a September 1st return for Thor, notes DiComo.

Bathroom doesn’t have walls in $900K home for sale

If you’ve always dreamed of an open-concept toilet, this house is for you.

A Boston home for sale on Zillow that appears to be normal and quaint is actually anything but.

The newly renovated four-bedroom, three-bathroom property — in foreclosure — is listed at a whopping $899,000. However, one of the bathroom layouts is pretty crappy.

It starts the moment you walk through the front door, where a bathroom is on the left side of the open-concept space.

Although the listing states three full bathrooms, this bathroom is missing one main component: a wall.

Photos of the property were first shared by the Instagram account Zillow Gone Wild, and social media immediately labeled it a “nightmare.”

“Do we have to be open about EVERYTHING these days??” one Instagram user said.

“Those glass walls really be doing the most for your privacy,” another joked.

“This is literally what I have recurring nightmares about,” one person wrote, while another called it a “freakshow.”

Built in 1910, the two-story home spans 2,000 square feet.

While the rest of the house seems pretty normal, with modern renovations and pristine hardwood floors, the bathroom scenario is pretty hard to overlook.

“Gotta love the clear glass between the shower and toilet, but frosted glass between the toilet and sink,” someone quipped.

This isn’t the only home up for sale with some questionable features.

A Lake Tahoe, California, home made the rounds on social media thanks to the creepy mannequins placed in every room. There was also a Kentucky home that was missing a bathtub in its entirety.

And, as New Yorkers know, it’s not uncommon to find a tub in a kitchen in the Big Apple.
