Auston Matthews, David Pastrnak among 12 voted to All-Star Game

Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews and Boston Bruins leading scorer David Pastrnak are among the final 12 players voted into the 2023 NHL All-Star Game by fans.

The NHL All-Star Game and All-Star Skills competition will be held at FLA Live Arena, home of the Florida Panthers, in Sunrise, Fla, on Feb. 3-4. The All-Star Game will once again feature a 3-on-3 tournament between 11-player teams representing the league’s four divisions.

The NHL changed the format for selecting All-Star Weekend participants this season. In previous seasons, fans voted for four captains and the NHL selected the rest of the players.

For this season’s All-Star Game, NHL hockey operations selected the initial 32 players, one from each team, and the fans voted in the final 12 players. The first pool of 32 were revealed on Jan. 5. The online fan vote ran from Jan. 5-17 on the league’s official website and on Twitter, where fans voted using player names, handles and hashtags from Jan. 12-14.

According to the NHL’s vote totals, the final all-stars are:

Atlantic Division

Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

Pastrnak, RW, Boston Bruins

Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, Tampa Bay Lightning

Metropolitan Division

Ilya Sorokin, G, New York Islanders

Artemi Panarin, LW, New York Rangers

Adam Fox, D, New York Rangers

Central Division

Connor Hellebuyck, G, Winnipeg Jets

Mikko Rantanen, RW, Colorado Avalanche

Nathan MacKinnon, C, Colorado Avalanche

Pacific Division

Leon Draisaitl, C, Edmonton Oilers

Stuart Skinner, G, Edmonton Oilers

Bo Horvat, C, Vancouver Canucks

The Rangers, Oilers and Avalanche each have three representatives at the event. The host Florida Panthers will only have one player in the game: forward Matthew Tkachuk.

The NHL All-Star Skills is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Feb. 3 on ESPN. The NHL All-Star Game will be held at 3 p.m. ET on Feb. 4 on ABC.

More than 34 million people have voted already. These states have the most pre-election votes cast so far.

The heavy hitters of American politics are hitting the campaign trail to deliver some closing arguments about the importance of next Tuesday’s election.

But their messages might not be sinking in.

It’s about democracy writ large

President Joe Biden told donors in Florida this week that “democracy is on the ballot.”

Later, in a speech from Washington, DC, he warned about political violence across the country.

But in a nod to the realities of his own political toxicity, Biden has largely avoided events to whip up voters in states with key races.

It’s about democracy in individual states

In Arizona, former President Barack Obama, who is extremely popular and a real draw for Democrats, told a rally that if a slate of Republican election deniers there wins next week, “Democracy as we know it may not survive in Arizona.”

He added: “That’s not an exaggeration. That is a fact.”

Candidates for secretary of state in Arizona and Nevada, in particular, have promised to upend the election systems there to guard against widespread voter fraud, for which there is no evidence.

It’s about 2024

Former President Donald Trump will kick off his closing blitz of rallies starting in Iowa, which is not the site of the most hotly contested Senate race but is home to the first presidential preference contest in the coming 2024 primaries.

At an earlier rally in Texas, Trump framed the election as an opportunity for the “MAGA movement” to take back the country from Democrats.

CNN’s Gabby Orr and Jeff Zeleny have an excellent look at where Trump is going, who he is appearing with and what it may mean. Note: Trump is not campaigning with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, but he is campaigning in Florida.

Biden slams ‘socialist Republicans’ for hypocrisy after they asked for money they voted against

President Joe Biden on Friday hit out at Republican members of Congress for repeatedly requesting federal funds for projects in their districts when they’d voted against the very bills which had made the funds available to them.

Speaking at a Volvo powertrain plant in Hagerstown, Maryland, Mr Biden called out several GOP members by name while pointing out the hypocrisy of requesting funds from legislation they’d tried to stop.

Citing a CNN report highlighting Republicans who slammed the programs they tried to take advantage of as “socialist,” Mr Biden noted how one member — Rep Paul Gosar of Arizona — had thrice written to the White House in search of funds for projects.

“He’s written three separate letters to the administration asking for projects in his district. He says it enhances the quality of life, it’d ease congestion, boosts the economy? He voted against it, said it’s all socialism,” Mr Biden said.

The president recalled another Republican member, Rep Andy Barr of Kentucky, calling his administration’s infrastructure legislation “the biggest socialist agenda”.

“Three different projects he wants, citing the importance of safety and growth in his district. Socialism? I didn’t know there were that many socialist Republicans,” he said.

“Folks … you can’t make it up —I gotta say I was surprised to see so many socialist Republicans in Congress,” Mr Biden continued, adding later that a GOP victory in the November midterms would lead to the repeal of his landmark infrastructure law and the Inflation Reduction Act he signed over the summer.

“Folks, here’s the bottom line. If Republicans take control of the Congress, these historic victories … for the American people are going to be taken away, he said.

Who Was Voted Out Tonight? & Who Won HOH? – Big Brother Network

It’s a double dose of Big Brother 24 this week with the TWO-hour eviction episode featuring a brand new split-house twist as the HGs are about to be divided faster than Jasmine can switch into her overplayed accent and grab her cane. By the end of the night, we’ll be down a Houseguest, the Jury House will be up one member, and we’ll have two “houses” to follow. Let’s find out who was voted out tonight on Big Brother and who won HOH.

Wednesday night left off with the Veto meeting cliffhanger as Taylor pursued a new target in Alyssa for taking her trip to London. Really Taylor didn’t seem to mind too much at first, but she does love “good TV” and seemed to pursue a splashy exit for her HOH week. We’ll watch that meeting playout and apparently there’s some shouting ahead in this one.

Big Brother 24 Results – Week 6 Veto Meeting:

  • Kyle decides to… NOT use the Veto
  • Final noms of the week: Indy & Terrance

After the meeting Taylor fake yelled at Kyle in Storage. She wanted to appear upset and surprised by his move. Trying to cover her potential Jury votes.

We are getting so very, very many filler segments tonight. This is brutal. The eviction vote won’t even arrive until the second hour of the show so settle in and brace yourself.

With the noms set it’s time to get to the vote. There are eight votes cast this round which means we could see a tiebreaker situation and Taylor definitely wants to avoid that happening. Will the Leftovers come together and provide her some cover?

Big Brother 24 Results – Week 6 Votes:

  • Monte votes to evict: Indy
  • Michael votes to evict: Terrance
  • Joseph votes to evict: Indy
  • Jasmine votes to evict: Indy
  • Alyssa votes to evict: Indy
  • Brittany votes to evict: Indy
  • Turner votes to evict: Indy
  • Kyle votes to evict: Indy

By a vote of 7-1, Indy has been evicted from the Big Brother house.

Out front, Julie asks Indy who she blames for her eviction. Indy says Kyle, even after Julie points out that Taylor promised her safety, and yet here she sits. Indy thinks Kyle was trying to protect Monte.

Our evictee tonight heads off to become the first Juror of BB24 and will return on finale night, Sunday, September 25th to help decide the winner.

Before we get to the new Head of Household it’s time for Julie to drop some twist news on the HGs. They’ll be split up into groups of five and face two parallel runs of the game for Week 7. We’ll know more soon but are expecting one half to occupy the backyard and the other to head inside. Next time they’ll be together again is a week away. Crazy!

Julie explains the indoor half of the house will be “Big BroChella” and the outdoor crew will attend “Dyre Fest.” Julie ran through the math for each group: 1 HOH, 2 Noms, and just 2 votes to evict. Yikes, those are narrow margins. It’s a leap forward to the end style.

Big Brother 24 Results – Week 7 HOH – Do You See the VIP:

  • Round 1: Britt vs Terrance – Terrance gets it right
  • Round 2: Joseph vs Jasmine – Jasmine gets it right
  • Round 3: Turner vs Monte – Turner gets it right
  • Round 4: Alyssa vs Terrance – Terrance gets it right
  • Round 5: Michael vs Kyle – Michael gets it right
  • Round 6: Terrance vs Jasmine – Terrance gets it right
  • Round 7: Michael vs Turner – Michael gets it right
  • Round 8: Michael vs Terrance – Michael gets it right!

Michael wins HOH and will be inside all week. Terrance, as runner up will be the HOH of BroChella outside.

Julie explains Michael & Terrance will do a schoolyard pick for their four HGs to join them at their Fests. The show cuts off before that can happen though so we’ll see it Sunday night and we will have those spoilers for you tonight when the Feeds return.

Big Brother 24 Results – Week 7 Groups:

  • Spoilers: waiting on the Feeds to return…

After the show, we’ll be heading back to the Live Feeds to watch the fallout over who won HOH & the start of the next rounds of planning for this week’s target. Grab the Free Trial and join us there now!

Dan Newhouse, Republican congressman who voted to impeach Trump, wins primary, CNN projects

Newhouse is one of the 10 Republican House members who voted for then-President Donald Trump’s impeachment in January 2021 following the attack on the US Capitol. Trump had endorsed Republican challenger Loren Culp in the district.

Washington holds open primaries in which all candidates, regardless of party, appear on the same ballot, with the top two finishers advancing to the November general election.

Despite facing anger from his own party over his impeachment vote, Newhouse had a number of factors going his way this week: The incumbent handily outspent his challengers, the field was large and fractured, and Washington state’s open primary system allowed people to vote for any candidate, regardless of affiliation.

Newhouse’s victory is a loss for Trump, who made defeating the 10 House Republicans who joined Democrats to impeach him a central goal to his post-presidency. By moving on from the primary, Newhouse is likely to keep his congressional seat. His district, which stretches from Washington’s borders with Oregon and Canada, overwhelmingly leans toward Republicans.

Aside from White and Culp, the field also included former NASCAR driver Jerrod Sessler and state Rep. Brad Klippert.

Local Republican operatives, many of whom censured and criticized Newhouse after his impeachment vote, worried that many people had moved on from impeachment and caused Republicans to focus on other issues as they went to the polls on Tuesday. Newhouse also seized on his agriculture expertise, using it to appeal in the largely rural district and draw some of the focus away from impeachment.
