NFC Wild Card: Vikings vs Giants 1/15/23 NFL Picks, Predictions, Odds

New York Giants (9-7-1) vs. Minnesota Vikings (13-4)
January 15, 2023 4:30 pm EDT
The Line: Minnesota Vikings -3.5 / New York Giants +3.5; Over/Under: 47.5
(Click here for latest betting odds)

The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants clash Sunday in a NFL NFC Wild Card Round game from US Bank Stadium. New York comes into this game after a 9-7-1 regular season. The Giants finished in sixth place in the NFC standings. As for Minnesota, they went 13-4 overall this year. The Vikings landed in third place with that record, behind the Eagles and 49ers. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York was 7-4 overall after 11 games this year, losing to only the Cowboys, Seahawks, Lions and Cowboys again. Over the last six games the Giants have gone 2-3-1 with losses to the Eagles, Vikings and Eagles again (and a tie with Washington).

In Sunday’s matchup versus the Eagles, the Giants fell behind 16-0 at halftime. New York posted a 16-6 edge in the second half but couldn’t come back in a 22-16 defeat. Davis Webb threw for 168 yards and a TD, while Gary Brightwell managed 60 rush yards on 11 carries.

Over on the Vikings’ side, they stood at 9-2 overall after 11 games this year. Minnesota fell to the Eagles and Cowboys in that time. Over the last six it was a 4-2 run for the Vikings with wins over the Jets, Colts, Giants and Bears.

Matched up against the Bears in the final week of the regular season, Minnesota outscored Chicago 16-6 in the first half. The Vikings posted another 13 points from there in a 29-13 win. Kirk Cousins posted 225 pass yards with a TD, and Alexander Mattison rushed 10 times for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

New York is 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and 4-0 ATS in their last four road games. The Giants are 5-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 versus the NFC. Minnesota is 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win.

PICK: I’ll probably still take Minnesota. This is a tough one, though; the Vikings have been playing by the skin of their proverbial teeth all season and it’s likely to be a fairly close game. The last time these teams met up was just a short while ago on December 24. Minnesota escaped with a nail-biter 27-24 victory at home despite collecting two turnovers and holding New York to just 3-of-11 on third-down conversions. This one’s going to be another dogfight but I think the Vikings can get there.

As for New York, their backup crew did a solid job against Philadelphia on Sunday. That will go a long way toward getting a fresh team on the field for this matchup and bodes well for the Giants. You could easily make an excellent case for a New York cover/win here. Should be a great game to check out.

Andrew’s Free Pick:

Minnesota Vikings -3.5

Prisco’s NFL Super Wild Card Weekend picks: Cowboys finally beat Tom Brady; Giants exact revenge on Vikings

Week 18 is always tough when it comes to picking NFL games. There is so much uncertainty as to who is playing and who is not. So I can use that as an excuse for my best bets debacle last week as part of the “Pick Six NFL” podcast.

I went 1-4, my worst week of the season. What a way to close the regular season. That dropped my record to 55-44-5, which is still solid, but the last two weeks have killed me in my race to beat R.J. White. Will Brinson, the host of the podcast, was long ago out of the running.

As for my CBSSports.com expert picks, I went 9-7 ATS and 10-6 straight up. That brings my record to 129-133-9 ATS and 169-101-1 straight up. That means it will take the playoffs to get me over .500 ATS, which I plan to do.

Let’s get a sweep of the wild-card weekend games. That’s right, 6-0. Let’s go.

Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET (Fox)

Featured Game | San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

The 49ers beat the Seahawks twice during the regular season, once with rookie Brock Purdy starting. He hasn’t lost a start yet, but things change in the playoffs. The intensity goes up. I think Kyle Shanahan will find a way to make it easy on Purdy, even in the postseason. The 49ers defense will be all over Geno Smith. This will get ugly.

Pick: 49ers 28, Seahawks 17

Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET (NBC)

Featured Game | Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Chargers

This is a game featuring two of the best young quarterback in the league. Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence will both be playing in their first playoff game, but I don’t think that will matter. The Jaguars dominated the Chargers in blowing them out in Week 3, but this will be a lot closer. Both passing games should have big days, so it should be a shootout. Look for the Jaguars to make one more big play to win it as Lawrence wins the first of his battles with Herbert.

Pick: Jaguars 34, Chargers 31

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins

Does Tua Tagovailoa play? If not, who does? The quarterback situation is in flux for Miami, but I don’t think it matters who plays. The Dolphins played well in losing to the Bills late in the season, but that won’t be the case here. Josh Allen and the offense will light up the Dolphins defense, while the Bills will limit the Miami big plays. The Bills will be moving on.

Pick: Bills 34, Dolphins 21

Sunday, 4:30 p.m. ET (Fox)

Featured Game | Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Giants

These two played on Christmas Eve, and the Vikings needed a 61-yard field goal by Greg Joseph to win it. The Giants gained 448 yards of offense that day and probably should have won the game. But they didn’t. Now it’s a road playoff game, which will be a challenge. Even so, I think Brian Daboll will take advantage of a bad Minnesota defense. This one should be high scoring, as Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson will make some plays, but it will be the Giants that win it with a late field goal this time to advance.

Pick: Giants 30, Vikings 28

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC)

Featured Game | Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens

The big issue here is whether Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson can play. I will make the assumption that he does play here. He certainly will be rusty coming off missing five weeks, but he’s better than the alternative of him not playing. The Bengals have ripped off eight straight victories, not counting the canceled game, and they’ve looked every bit as good as the team that went to the Super Bowl last year. They beat up the Ravens last week, but that doesn’t matter. What will matter is Joe Burrow having a big day. The Bengals will move on.

Pick: Bengals 26, Ravens 19

Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN)

Featured Game | Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys looked awful in losing their finale to the Commanders, but really what were they playing for with the Giants resting players against the Eagles? Nothing. So erase that game, even if Dak Prescott looked bad. The Bucs got into the playoffs with a losing record, and they have issues. It’s easy to sit here and say Tom Brady will turn it on in the playoffs. But I don’t see it. Not against that Cowboys front. Prescott will play better for the Dallas offense to get them into the next round.

Pick: Cowboys 27, Bucs 21

Packers vs. Vikings score: Live updates, game stats, highlights, analysis for NFC North matchup

More than three months after the Vikings stunned the Packers with a lopsided Week 1 victory to kick off the 2022 season, the NFC North rivals are squaring off once again, this time in the cold Lambeau air. And there’s plenty more at stake. Aaron Rodgers and Co. are looking for a fourth straight win to stay alive in the wild card race. Minnesota, meanwhile, is fresh off another close game and looking to prove it belongs among the conference’s top contenders. So far, everything has swung the Packers’ way, with defense and special teams fueling a 27-3 lead going into the break.

Justin Jefferson has given just about everyone trouble this year, and he got the best of the Packers last time these rivals met, but Jaire Alexander, Green Bay’s top cover man, talked this week about shutting the star wideout down. Is the Packers’ renewed confidence enough to carry them to victory at home, and potentially shake up the NFC playoff standings? Or is Kevin O’Connell’s squad destined to come back late and sweep the green and yellow en route to the postseason?

Either way, this one’s must-see TV. Stay tuned throughout Sunday’s showdown for live updates and analysis.

Prisco’s Week 16 NFL picks: Vikings edge Giants, 49ers roll over Commanders, Chiefs crush Seahawks

Week 15 was not good to me with my picks. In fact, it was one of my worst weeks of the season.

Ouch.

So much for getting on a hot streak in the final month. But it’s Christmas week, which means the best present I can give you all is a bunch of winners — and that’s what I intend to do.

But first, a look back at last week’s disaster. I went 11-5 with my straight-up picks, 5-10-1 with my against the spread expert picks and 1-3-1 with my Best Bets as part of the Pick-Six podcast. PS: Two of my best bets were the Patriots — thanks crazy ending — and the Saints — thanks two-point conversion.

That puts my records at 136-87-1 straight up, 101-114-9 ATS and 47-36-5 with my Best Bets.

With three weeks left, it’s time to pick it up. Or the coal is coming in my stocking.

Thursday, 8:15 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime Video)

Featured Game | New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

This is an enormous game in the AFC playoff picture. Jacksonville is riding high behind Trevor Lawrence, but the Jets defense has been outstanding. That will present a real problem for Lawrence. The Jacksonville defense has struggled, but Zach Wilson has as well. Look for Lawrence to get the best of it in the battle of 2021 high first-round quarterbacks. Jacksonville keeps pushing for the postseason with a victory.

Pick: Jaguars 24, Jets 20

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Baltimore Ravens vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Ravens could have Lamar Jackson back in this one. They need him in the worst way. The passing game is struggling. The Falcons have defensive issues, though, which could help. Desmond Ridder was just OK last week in his first start, and now faces a tougher defense. Ravens win it.

Pick: Ravens 26, Falcons 13

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Carolina Panthers vs. Detroit Lions

This is an important game for both teams in terms of playoff implications. The Lions are playing consecutive road games, which will be a challenge. Carolina looked bad last week in losing to the Steelers. The Lions are a tough challenge for the Carolina defense, which will be the difference in the game. The Lions keep rolling.

Pick: Lions 27, Panthers 17

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Chicago Bears vs. Buffalo Bills

The Bills are trying to lock up the top seed in the AFC playoffs, while the Bears are playing out the string. But the Bills play the Bengals next week after beating the Dolphins. This looks like a sandwich game. It won’t be. Josh Allen will put up a ton of points for the Bills as they keep rolling.

Pick: Bills 37, Bears 21

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Cleveland Browns vs. New Orleans Saints

These two are alive in their playoff races, but neither can afford another loss. That makes this game a big one for both. The Browns haven’t been great on offense with Deshaun Watson back at quarterback, but this could be the game to get it going. Look for the Browns to win it.

Pick: Browns 23, Saints 16

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Kansas City Chiefs vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Chiefs are winning games, but they have looked off the past few weeks. Seattle has also struggled the past few games. This is a must-win for them, but this is a tough place to play. Their defense has major issues, which will show up here as Patrick Mahomes lights them up.

Pick: Chiefs 35, Seahawks 21

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Giants

The Vikings have clinched their division, while the Giants are playing for a wild card spot. The Giants are playing consecutive road games, while the Vikings got an extra day of rest. The Minnesota defense is a major issue, though, which is why the Giants will hang around in this one. It’s close, but the Vikings take it.

Pick: Vikings 27, Giants 26

Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5) at New England Patriots

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | New England Patriots vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are playing consecutive road games, but the Patriots are stinging from a terrible loss last week to the Raiders. The Bengals have some defensive injuries, but the Patriots have issues on offense. Look for Joe Burrow to continue to play well as the Bengals win it.

Pick: Bengals 30, Pats 17

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans

The Titans are in jeopardy of missing the playoffs if they don’t turn things around. The Texans have played much better in recent weeks, but this will be a challenge against a team that badly needs it. The Titans will right things here with a big showing by Derrick Henry.

Pick: Titans 23, Texans 21

Saturday, 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | San Francisco 49ers vs. Washington Commanders

This is a tough trip for Washington against a team that will have four extra days of rest. Washington is struggling on offense, which is never a good thing against a 49ers defense that is the best in the NFL. Look for that defense to shine again with Brock Purdy doing enough to win it.

Pick: 49ers 25, Commanders 14

Saturday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles will likely be starting Gardner Minshew here for the injured Jalen Hurts. That changes the way they play offense. The Cowboys have looked bad the past two weeks on defense, but I think that changes here. They will get after Minshew with no threat of a quarterback run with him in the game. Cowboys win it.

Pick: Cowboys 33, Eagles 25

Las Vegas Raiders at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3)

Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET (NFL Network, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Las Vegas Raiders

This is another game featuring two teams that have small playoff hopes. The Raiders are coming off an amazing victory over the Patriots, while the Steelers handled the Panthers on the road. Kenny Pickett should be back for the Steelers here, which matters. Pittsburgh’s defense will get the best of Derek Carr. Steelers take it.

Pick: Steelers 24, Raiders 16

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Miami Dolphins vs. Green Bay Packers

The Packers are still alive after winning Monday night, but this is tough turnaround on a short week. The Dolphins have lost three straight, but they played better last week. This will be a shootout with the Packers keeping it close as Aaron Rodgers and Tua Tagovailoa put on a show.

Pick: Dolphins 31, Packers 30

Sunday, 4:30 p.m ET (CBS, Nickelodeon, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Los Angeles Rams vs. Denver Broncos

This is a game many expected to be an important one, but instead it features two of the biggest disappointments of the year. Both teams have offensive issues. The Broncos have the better defense and Russell Wilson will be back. The Rams are also playing on a short week. But something says the Rams find a way to win it.

Pick: Rams 21, Broncos 14

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Arizona Cardinals vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

These two have major issues, but the Bucs are still in first place while the Cardinals are done. Arizona could be down to third-team quarterback Trace McSorley against a Bucs team that blew a big lead last week. Tom Brady has struggled, but I think he will play well here. Bucs take it.

Pick: Bucs 24, Cardinals 20

Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN, fuboTV)

Featured Game | Indianapolis Colts vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The Colts are coming off a loss where they blew a 33-point lead, the type of loss that can send a team packing for the year. They also will be without running back Jonathan Taylor. The Chargers beat the Titans last week, but didn’t play well in doing so. They will here. Justin Herbert plays big to keep the Chargers on the path to playoffs.

Pick: Chargers 30, Colts 20

Largest comebacks in NFL history: Vikings’ stunner over Colts stands as biggest rally league has ever seen

The Minnesota Vikings capped off the biggest comeback in NFL history, erasing a 33-point halftime deficit to complete a wild 39-36 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Kirk Cousins threw for 417 yards in the second half and overtime, the most by any player in NFL history — fitting for the biggest comeback in league history.

Since the Vikings decided to rewrite the NFL record books, let’s take a look at the five biggest comebacks in NFL history — including the record Minnesota surpassed in the process.

1. Minnesota Vikings 39, Indianapolis Colts 36 (OT) — 33 points (Week 15, 2022 regular season)

The largest comeback in NFL history belongs to the Vikings, who overcame a 33-0 halftime deficit to pull of the improbable comeback and clinch the NFC North title. Cousins threw four touchdown passes in the second half as the Vikings erased a 36-7 deficit with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter to score the final 32 points in this one.

Minnesota scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, tying the game on a Dalvin Cook 64-yard touchdown reception from Cousins with 2:15 to play in regulation. The Vikings got the ball in overtime — after punting on their first overtime possession — with 1:41 to play as Cousins led the Vikings 60 yards down the field that resulted in a Greg Joseph 40-yard field goal for the win with three seconds remaining in overtime.

Cousins overcame two interceptions to throw for 460 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Colts quarterback Matt Ryan ended up being the starting quarterback on two 25-point blown leads, the only quarterback in league history to have this distinction.

2. Buffalo Bills 41, Houston Oilers 38 (OT) — 32 points (1992 AFC Wild Card playoffs)

What was the largest comeback in NFL history is still one of the most improbable victories the league has ever seen. Bills backup quarterback Frank Reich engineered the game known as “The Comeback” as Buffalo erased a 35-3 third-quarter deficit to pull off the victory.

Reich threw four touchdown passes in the second half, three to Andre Reed and one to Don Beebe as the Bills took a 38-35 lead with 3:08 to play (Reich threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Reed). The Oilers rallied to tie it as Warren Moon led them on a 63-yard drive that resulted in an Al Del Greco field goal to send the game to overtime.

Houston got the ball first in overtime, but Moon threw an interception to Nate Odomes that gave the Bills the ball at the Oilers’ 20-yard line. Replay showed that intended target Ernest Givins was held by Darryl Talley, but no flag was thrown. Steve Christie hit a 32-yard field goal to complete the improbable comeback as the Bills would end up going to their third consecutive Super Bowl a few weeks later.

3. Indianapolis Colts 45, Kansas City Chiefs 44 — 28 points (2013 AFC Wild Card playoffs)

In his first season with the Chiefs, Andy Reid looked to be cruising toward a playoff victory after leading 38-10 early in the third quarter after Knile Davis caught a 10-yard pass from Alex Smith. The Colts outscored the Chiefs 21-3 for the remainder of the quarter to cut the deficit to 41-31 entering the fourth.

Indianapolis actually fumbled the ball trying to cut the deficit to three when Andrew Luck recovered the fumble and run the ball in for a touchdown in one of the weirdest plays in NFL history. Luck hit T.Y. Hilton for a 64-yard touchdown pass with 4:21 left to give Indianapolis a 45-44 lead, as the Colts held the Chiefs on their ensuing possession to cap the comeback.

Luck threw for 443 yards with four touchdowns, overcoming three interceptions in the process. Hilton caught 13 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns as both teams finished with over 500 yards of offense.

The legend of Joe Montana in San Francisco was started in this game. San Francisco was outgained 324-21 in the first half and trailed 35-7 at halftime, with the 49ers’ only touchdown coming on a 57-yard punt return by Freddie Solomon.

Montana threw for two touchdown passes in the second half, a 71-yard pass to Dwight Clark and then a 14-yard pass to Solomon to make it 35-28. Lenvil Elliott tied the game with a 7-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Montana capped the comeback in overtime, as the 49ers clinched the victory with Ray Wersching drilling a 36-yard kick. Montana threw for two touchdown passes and rushed for one in the second half, finishing 24 of 36 for 285 yards. The Saints fell to 0-14 with the loss, the worst defeat for the infamous “Aints.”

5. Buffalo Bills 37, Indianapolis Colts 35 — 26 points (Week 4, 1997 regular season)

Buffalo trailed by 26 points in the second quarter before Todd Collins led the Bills to 10 unanswered points before halftime to make the deficit manageable. Antowain Smith rushed for three touchdowns in the second half, including a 54-yard run with 5:21 to play to give Buffalo a 37-29 lead.

The game wasn’t finished, as Colts backup quarterback Paul Justin hit Marvin Harrison on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds left. The Colts went for the two-point conversion and the tie to force overtime, but Kurt Schulz broke up Justin’s pass for Harrison to keep the 37-35 lead.

Indianapolis recovered the onside kick and tried two desperation passes, but the final one toward the end zone was picked off by Ken Irvin. Buffalo won despite five turnovers and two muffed punts.

“I always thought we’d pull it off”: Vikings make largest comeback in NFL history

MINNEAPOLIS — Before Saturday, the largest NFL comeback was a Bills/Oilers playoff game in 1992–that was 32 points. The Vikings broke that record by winning 39-36 in overtime against the Indianapolis Colts after being down 33.

WCCO’s Ren Clayton caught up with the Vikings on their most recent win.

“It’s unbelievable. I came in here and shed tears thinking about it. All of the things that we’ve been through, and to be down by 33 at half, and come back with this team, with that fight to go and win the game, it’s definitely something crazy to think about,” said wide receiver Adam Thielen.

Minnesota had no points until K.J. Osborn scored with 8-plus minutes left in the third — the start of a 36-3 run.

“This has just been a day. It’s been so crazy. But if that was the spark that we needed to get us going I was happy I was able to do that,” said defensive back, Chandon Sullivan.

The Vikings did not play perfect football down the stretch and had two Chandon Sullivan fumble recoveries for touchdowns called back by the refs. Wins heal all.

“I always thought we’d pull it off. We’ve been doing it all year,” said safety Harrison Smith.

The Vikings could have clinched the division with a tie, but that would have done the comeback a disservice.

“It was everything you would want. A game like this to win the division, you would want it to be that difficult, you wouldn’t want it to come easy,” said offensive lineman Brian O’Neill.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver K.J. Osborn (17) celebrates with teammates Dalvin Cook (4) and T.J. Hockenson (87) after catching a 2-yard touchdown pass during the second half of an NFL football game against the Indianapolis Colts, Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, in Minneapolis.

More from Associated Press: Comeback king Vikings set NFL rally record in win vs. Colts

With the Minnesota Vikings gathered in their humbled locker room at halftime in a huge hole, cornerback Patrick Peterson set the tone for an historic escape by promising his offensive teammates the defense would do its part to hold the Indianapolis Colts.

“You just need five touchdowns,” Peterson told them. “That’s nothing.”

This rally sure was something, though.

The Vikings completed the biggest comeback in NFL history, erasing a 33-point deficit by beating the Colts 39-36 on Greg Joseph’s 40-yard field goal with three seconds left in overtime Saturday to win the NFC North division in their typical dramatic fashion.

Kirk Cousins passed for 460 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Vikings (11-3), who trailed 36-7 late in the third quarter and became just the third team in league history to win 10 games in a season by eight points or fewer.

“We’re going to grind it out until they tell us there’s no more ball left to play,” coach Kevin O’Connell said.

The Colts (4-9-1) landed on the infamous side of this list, just ahead of the Houston Oilers in the 1992 postseason. They blew a 32-point lead (35-3) and lost to Buffalo (41-38) in overtime.

“When you have chances to put people away, we’ve got to do a better job than we’ve done up until this point,” quarterback Matt Ryan said.

According to Sportradar data available since 1930, the Vikings became only the second team in 1,551 regular-season or playoff games to trail by 30 or more points and still win.

“Nothing fazes us. We showed that in Buffalo,” said Peterson, who aided a 33-30 overtime victory over the Bills on Nov. 13 after a 17-point deficit. “We showed that again today.”

The Vikings took this rally all the way to their second possession of overtime. Cousins hit K.J. Osborn — who caught the first score and had a career-high 157 yards — for 15 yards. He found Adam Thielen — who had the second of three fourth-quarter touchdown passes — for 21 yards. Then he threw to Justin Jefferson for 13 yards to move into range.

Ifeadi Odenigbo was called for delay of game for lying on Jefferson to try to keep the Vikings from setting up for the kick, putting Joseph 5 yards closer for the winner.

“It’s a special group, a lot of fighters,” Thielen said.

Colts interim coach Jeff Saturday didn’t exactly get conservative in this collapse. Ryan was stopped short on a fourth-and-1 sneak at the Minnesota 36 with 2:19 left in regulation. Then Cousins hit Dalvin Cook for a 64-yard touchdown on a screen pass on the next play and T.J. Hockenson for the 2-point conversion to tie the game before the 2-minute warning.

“We would have closed the game out and ended the game,” Saturday said. “I’m in. Everybody’s in. We didn’t convert.”

Outscored 33-0 in the fourth quarter of their most recent game, a 54-19 loss to Dallas on Dec. 4, the Colts came back fresh from their bye week and stunned the Vikings with a 33-0 halftime lead that was the second-largest in the NFL this season. Cincinnati led Carolina 35-0 on Nov. 6.

The intermission deficit for Minnesota was the second-biggest in franchise history, behind a 45-10 score at Seattle in 2002.

The Vikings even overcame a pair of fumble returns for touchdowns by Chandon Sullivan that were wiped out by the whistle.

“I know that there’s other games that don’t end like that. It was just cool to see everybody battle back and I’m just happy that I get to share this moment with my teammates,” linebacker Eric Kendricks said, wiping away tears.

The last team to overcome a deficit of 24-plus points to win a regular season game was Washington over Tampa Bay in 2015, when Cousins was the quarterback. The previous regular season comeback record was 28 points in 1980, when San Francisco rallied from down 35-7 to win 38-35.

ALARMING START

The special teams units bore the brunt of the brutal start for the Vikings. Dallis Flowers returned the opening kickoff 49 yards, and the Colts were in scoring position within seconds.

Odenigbo plowed past two blockers and sideswiped Ryan Wright’s punt with his right arm. JoJo Domann caught the deflected ball and returned it 24 yards for the too-easy score and a 10-0 lead.

Then with the Vikings trailing 20-0 on fourth-and-1 from their own 31, Wright’s pass on a fake punt sailed over Jalen Nailor’s head for a second straight turnover on downs.

JEFFERSON WATCH

Jefferson left the game twice for brief examination following jarring hits to the chest. On the second occurrence, Stephon Gilmore also got him in the facemask and drew an unnecessary roughness penalty in the fourth quarter.

Both times after Jefferson left the game, Cousins threw to Jalen Reagor on the next play and was intercepted after an apparent miscommunication on the routes. The first one was returned by Julian Blackmon for a 17-yard touchdown that made it 30-0 in the second quarter.

Jefferson had 12 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown and raised his season total to 1,623 receiving yards. Calvin Johnson’s all-time record of 1,964 yards was set in 16 games in 2012.

INJURY REPORT

Colts: RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) left the game on the opening drive after a hard tackle as he tumbled out of bounds. He missed three games with the injury earlier this season.

Vikings: LT Christian Darrisaw returned from a three-game absence for a concussion. He limped off twice in overtime with leg cramps. Peterson left briefly with the same problem.
