Johnny Depp v Amber Heard trial aftermath live updates: Heard appeal, mistrial, Vasquez, hate tracker…

Ex-Aussie agriculture minister calls for Heard rap over perjury claims

Australia’s former minister for agriculture says the book should be thrown at Amber Heard if she perjured herself during a trial over her failure to declare two dogs she took into the country in 2015.

Heard avoided conviction in the court case, held in 2016, but Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is reportedly looking into claims that the actor lied under oath in the trial.

“[Biosecurity] is something that’s very important to us,” Barnaby Joyce told Law & Crime’s Sidebar podcast. “People come to Australia, and you don’t have the screw fly, we don’t have rabies, we don’t have bovine tuberculosis, we don’t have brucelosis…

“My father was a vet, and we spent a lot of time and a lot of money and a lot of pain trying to get these diseases out of our nation and we don’t want them back, and we don’t want new ones in.

“In my area, if we got foot and mouth or rabies, people would go broke. There’d be people who would lose their houses. That’s how serious it is. If you lost your house, if you lost your income, what would you expect from the court?

“How would you see justice if you realised it was just someone who flagrantly broke the law because they thought they were a little bit special?

Joyce added that the authorities should look at the role played by those around Heard, including former husband Johnny Depp, in any perjury that might have been committed.

“I would hope that if it was the occasion that someone had perjured themselves, that firstly [there would be] a fulsome investigation of whether anybody knew about it, was complicit in it, gave advice on it. I think that should be investigated,” he said.

Of Course, Johnny Depp Being Seen With A Redhead Is Sparking Rumors Of The Camille Vasquez Variety

Whispers surrounding Johnny Depp’s love life have sort of become the latest winds that are turning the rumor mill. Depp was rumored to be dating lawyer Camille Vasquez, but those reports were eventually debunked in proper fashion. As the actor is getting back into making upcoming movies, as well as touring with his musical talents, another potential love connection has been speculated by those who love to talk.

This new round of talk comes from famed rumor mill TMZ, and even the publication is warning people to break out the salt shakers for this one. Photos of Johnny Depp and an unidentified red-haired woman have come out of his recent appearance at Italy’s Umbria Jazz Festival, sparking new talks surrounding the actor’s love life.

Continuing to tour with musician Jeff Beck throughout Europe, all eyes have been on the former Pirates of the Caribbean lead, if only to see what moves he makes next in his highly publicized life. It’s certainly enough to take more heat off of the already cooling Camille Vasquez rumors, even after she sported an A+ outfit during a recent reunion between Johnny Depp and his legal team

If there’s any truth to this speculation, it may come from whether or not this mystery lady has been, or will be, spotted again on Depp’s current tour. With the report above theorizing that she might be working for Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck’s road crew, that’s a distinct possibility which could be equally correct or incorrect.

With the recent verdict in the Amber Heard defamation lawsuit seemingly drawing his legal challenges to a close, Johnny Depp looks to be moving on with his life. Music isn’t the only art he’s been practicing lately, as his next film La Favorite will mark his first acting role post-trial. Not to mention, Depp’s art label Never Fear Truth also presents another creative outlet for Johnny to pour himself into.

All of this activity could make it hard to find a potential companion, romantic or otherwise. That’s not going to stop rumors from flying though, especially when one of the photos of Johnny Depp and this unidentified woman looks like he’s almost pulling his hand out of being clasped with hers. Again, this is all speculation, as while a picture is worth a thousand words, they rarely ever tell the full story.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next, keeping our ears and eyes open for further updates. In the meantime, if you’re a Johnny Depp fan who wanted to see his recent film Minimata, but never got the chance, you can currently stream that film if you’re a Hulu subscriber. While we don’t know when La Favorite will be aiming to be released, we do know that its post theatrical streaming home will indeed be Netflix.

Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez helps man in distress on plane

Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez is being called “wonder woman” for rushing to a man’s aid when he experienced a medical emergency aboard a flight she was on, according to a report.

Vasquez, coming fresh off her career-making courtroom victory in Depp’s bombshell defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, was traveling from Los Angeles to New York City on an American Airlines flight this week when a fellow passenger collapsed and hit his head, TMZ reported, citing eyewitness accounts.

The unnamed traveler, who appeared to be in his 70s, fell while walking past Vasquez and her bodyguard, who were flying first class.

When a flight attendant called for help, the celebrity lawyer and her guard reportedly jumped into action.

Passengers said that Vasquez called her brother-in-law, who is a doctor, and had him guide her through checking whether the patient was having a heart attack or a brain hemorrhage, the outlet reported.

Vasquez’s bodyguard even took off his Apple Watch and placed it on the ailing passenger to monitor his vitals, TMZ said.

Vasquez was soon relieved from EMT duties by a surgeon who happened to be on board the flight — and who took over the life-saving measures.

According to TMZ, one of the cabin crew members told Vasquez that she was “wonder woman” and presented her with a bottle of champagne and a bottle of Merlot for her troubles.

The pilot then turned the plane around and returned to LAX, where it was met by paramedics who escorted the patient off the flight. It is unclear what caused the man to collapse, and his condition is unknown at this time.

The incident is certain to raise the newly-minted law partner’s status to new heights.

The Depp-Heard civil trial, which ended with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star being awarded more than $10 million in damages for having his reputation besmirched, has earned Vasquez legions of fans around the world.

The plane then turned back to Los Angeles, where medics were waiting to take care of the passenger.

He was said to be conscious by the time the plane landed and EMTs escorted him off the plane.

Vasquez, 37, gained a celebrity status of her own since she defended Depp, 59, to victory in the blockbuster defamation trial against Amber Heard, 36,.

It comes the day before Depp’s team and Amber Heard’s lawyers sit down to thrash out the final details of his $8million defamation win against the actress.

If they can’t find an agreement tomorrow, trial Judge Penney Azcarate will file the jury’s June 1 verdict and Depp and Heard will have to pay each other their ordered damages.

Both celebrities were found to have defamed each other in the June verdict, but the cards fell considerably in Depp’s favor.

He was awarded $10.35million in damages from Heard, while she was awarded just $2million in damages from Depp. All told, Heard was left owing Depp a whopping $8.35million.

Heard later admitted through her lawyer that she couldn’t afford those millions in damages, and a day after the verdict her representation said that she would appeal the verdict.

Her tune on the matter has been mixed since then, however, with reports swirling that she plans to write a ‘tell-all’ book to earn money to pay the damages.

A source close to Heard claimed she was ‘broke’ and not ‘in a position to turn down money.’

They said she ‘considers her career in Hollywood over’ and ‘has nothing to lose’ following a disastrous few months.

An attorney for Depp, Benjamin Chew, indicated that there could be a settlement option on the table.

Speaking on Good Morning America earlier this month, Chew said that Depp might agree to waive the damages against Heard in return for her not appealing the case.

‘We obviously can’t disclose any attorney-client communications, but as Mr. Depp testified, and as we both made clear in our respective closings, this was never about money for Mr. Depp,’ said Chew.

‘This was about restoring his reputation, and he’s done that.’

Stanford law professor calls Johnny Depp lawyer Camille Vasquez ‘absolute worst’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A Stanford law professor attacked Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez in a series of scathing tweets accusing her of “sucking up to male power.”

Michele Dauber, an Amber Heard supporter, blasted Vasquez one day after a Virginia jury awarded Depp $10.35 million in his defamation claim against his ex-wife.

“Of all the women who suck up to male power, women lawyers are the absolute worst of the bunch,” she tweeted June 2 under a photo of Vasquez giving a press conference after the team’s victory.

“Desperate to prove they are ‘real lawyers’ and understanding that being a woman undermines their identity as lawyers, they throw women under the bus as hard and fast as they can,” Dauber continued.

Many of her posts include the hashtag #IStandWithAmberHeard.

The law professor also wrote in the thread that “some women have learned to seek male approval in the hopes they won’t be raped or abused or humiliated.”

Daube included a series photos of female lawyers with men who’ve been accused or convicted of sex crimes and called them “skirts.” In one snap of Harvey Weinstein with his attorney, Donna Rotunno, she wrote “Harvey Weinstein’s skirt.”

The backslash to Dauber’s posts criticizing Vasquez was swift. “Good grief Stanford is in trouble. What an outlook on life,” wrote one Twitter user.

An account titled Fair Lilith asked, “Please do explain to me how being a woman undermines my identity as a lawyer?”

Other responses called Dauber “jealous” and said it wasn’t “good look to cut down minority women.”

Vasquez, 37, was praised for her tightly controlled cross-examination of Heard, grilling her on inconsistencies in her testimony.

She also delivered part of the opening and closing statements. The young attorney’s performance at the Fairfax County Circuit Court trial won her a promotion to partner at her firm Brown Rudnick.

Dauber’s relationship with Heard, 36, goes back at least six years. She was photographed with Heard, Gabourey Sidibe, Frieda Pinto and Lena Dunham at the Glamour Women of Year awards ceremony in 2016.

Dauber called Depp supporters “demented ghouls” and blasted them for trolling her and setting up a fake Twitter account using her deceased daughter’s photo and name.

“These people are scum, they are garbage, they are complete f–king trash,” the professor wrote.

It wasn’t just Vasquez and Depp supporters that Dauber took aim it. She called the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and Depp’s character, Captain Jack Sparrow, racist, writing that there is an “overlap between anti-women and anti-black individuals” among Depp’s fan base.

Stanford didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Johnny Depp’s star lawyer Camille Vasquez celebrates verdict: ‘What we have said from the beginning’

Johnny Depp’s star lawyer Camille Vasquez is celebrating victory in a case that has catapulted her to fame.

Ms Vasquez, who quickly became a source of internet fascination in the trial, hugged her colleagues after winning her client’s bombshell defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Speaking outside the courthouse in Virginia, Ms Vasquez underlined her affection for her movie star client, which was so palpable throughout the case it even sparked – albeit completely baseless – romance rumors.

“Today’s verdict confirms what we have said from the beginning – that the claims against Johnny Depp are defamatory and unsupported by any evidence,” she said.

“We are grateful, so grateful to the jury for their careful deliberation.”

Mr Depp won his case against Ms Heard after a six-week, televised trial.

Ms Heard was ordered to pay the actor $15m in damages but the jury also awarded her $2m for one part of her own counterclaim.

The jury found she was defamed by one of Depp’s lawyers, who accused her of creating a detailed hoax that included roughing up their apartment to look worse for police.

A quirk of the Virginia legal system means that Depp will be left with an overall payout of $8.35m.

The jury of five men and two women returned their verdict on Wednesday after nearly 13 hours of deliberation spread over three days at the district court in Fairfax, Virginia.

Mr Depp was not in court for the verdict. He is working in the UK and was spotted in a pub in Newcastle. Ms Heard was present for the reading of the verdict.

Fans of Mr Depp cheered wildly outside the courthouse as each verdict was returned by the jury.

Ms Vasquez has become one of the best-known figures among followers of the case.

After her cross-examination of Ms Heard, a Depp fan meme reimagined the attorney as Thor, the god of thunder portrayed by Chris Hemsworth in Marvel movies.

Google Trends, a tool made available by Google to measure the popularity of various search terms over time, shows that search interest for the words “Camille Vasquez” surged from 16 to 18 May.

On 18 May, a photographer for TMZ asked Vasquez about online rumors that she and Depp might be dating. Vasquez laughed and declined to answer further. TMZ has previously reported that the rumors are untrue and the two are “definitely not dating”, citing “sources connected to Camille Vasquez”.

Following the verdict, Ms Heard released a statement that she was “heartbroken.”

“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband,” she said.

“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”

And she added that the result was an attack on Freedom of Speech.

“I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly.”
