Prince William and Kate Middleton branded ‘utterly delightful’ by cabin crew on commercial flight

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been branded ‘utterly delightful’ by members of the cabin crew who served them during their eight-hour commercial flight from London to Boston yesterday.

The royal couple, both 40, have flown out to the US for a whirlwind three-day tour of Massachusetts’ capital city before attending the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony at the MGM Music Hall tomorrow night.

According to CBS, the royal couple’s entourage took up most of the first class seats during the eight-hour flight.

Passenger Brent Scuttles – who was sitting just two rows behind Prince William – admitted it was a total ‘surprise’ to see the royals on board a commercial plane.

He said: ‘You do a double take to see if you really see who you think you see!’

Describing the father-of-three as ‘slight’, the first class passenger said the Princess was as ‘beautiful as one would expect’.

According to the publication, the Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted making conversation with other nearby passengers and spoke about their itinerary during the trip – which involved attending a Boston Celtics game last night.

The couple are also expected to meet President Biden on Friday at the White House ahead of the Earthshot ceremony in the evening.

Impressed cabin crew said the couple were ‘utterly delightful’ to serve on board the plane.

Fellow passenger Jonathan Wood said there was a ‘buzz’ around the aircraft once word had gotten round about the royal couple.

Although passenger Jo Adkins admitted they were surprised to hear the Prince and Princess of Wales had taken a commercial flight, another added that it made sense given the environmental focus of their royal tour.

Earthshot was set up by Prince William in 2020 as a contest to champion innovative environmental solutions.

Once they landed at Logan Airport, passengers were reportedly asked to wait until the Prince and Princess of Wales had already left the plane to disembark.

Royal couple were greeted by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and her sons at the city’s Town Hall

The publication reports there was 12 state troopers waiting to escort the couple to their first engagement of the day, which was a tour of Boston City Hall.

In August 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced criticism after it was revealed they had taken four private jets in 11 days.

Earlier this year, the couple were accused of ‘enormous hypocrisy’ after it was revealed they had returned to their £11million Montecito mansion with their children Archie and Lilibet on a gas-guzzling Bombardier Global 6000 before the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations ended.

After touching down in the US, the Prince and Princess of Wales joined 20,000 basketball fanatics to cheer on the Boston Celtics and promote the Earthshot Prize awards on day one in the city – but their first trip to the US in eight years has been overshadowed by a racism scandal rocking Buckingham Palace.

William and Kate arrived in Boston just hours after the Prince’s own godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, a former lady-in-waiting to the late Queen, was accused of making racist remarks at a reception hosted by Queen Consort Camilla.

Lady Susan Hussey, 83 (pictured in 2016 at a Service of Thanksgiving in memory of Sir Terry Wogan), has resigned from her honorary role as Lady of the Household in Buckingham Palace after she was accused by a black woman who runs Sistah Space domestic abuse charity of asking: ‘What part of Africa are you from?’

Lady Susan Hussey, who was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II for decades and was retained by King Charles following his mother’s death, has resigned after allegedly asking Ngozi Fulani, a black woman who runs domestic abuse charity Sistah Space in Hackney: ‘What part of Africa are you from?’

Responding to the allegations made by Ms Fulani on Twitter, Buckingham Palace said it took the situation ‘extremely seriously’, adding Lady Susan Hussey had offered a ‘profound apology’ for her words.

Her resignation ends a six-decades-long career within the Royal household which saw her become one of Queen Elizabeth II’s closest confidantes. Her role was so significant, she even earned herself a brief portrayal in Netflix’s The Crown.

Lady Susan, 83, was welcomed into The Firm in 1960, around the time Her late Majesty gave birth to her third child, Prince Andrew, when she was employed to help answer letters addressed to the Royal household, Tatler reports.

She is the youngest daughter of the 12th Earl of Waldegrave and the widow of Marmaduke Hussey, former chairman of the BBC who passed away in 2006.

After assuming her role and becoming closer to the monarch, she soon became known as one of the late Queen’s ‘Head Girls’ as a lady-in-waiting. Before long, she was reportedly nicknamed the ‘Number One Head Girl’ as she continued to provide support to the Queen.

Throughout her time as a close confidante of the royal family, Lady Susan grew close to King Charles. So close, in fact, that he asked her to be Godmother to his eldest son, Prince William.

Jared Leto looks utterly bizarre

Jared Leto
Photo: United Artists Releasing

It’s heavy competition, but few people on Earth seem to hate Jared Leto’s face more than Jared Leto. What else can we make of the Suicide Squad star’s ongoing efforts to utterly goof up his features, a pursuit of prosthetic face junk that has now extended to the just-released first-look poster for Ridley Scott’s new film House Of Gucci? Dude looks like he got bit by a radioactive Jeffrey Tambor.

Kudos to the marketing team on Scott’s movie, at least, who understandably decided to stick Leto’s picture right in the middle of the composite shot we’ve seen of all five leads, lest an unbalanced arrangement send the entire photo set sloughing off into the sea. Because while it’s not like Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jeremy Irons, and Al Pacino—as, respectively, Patrizia Reggiani, Maurizio Gucci, Rodolfo Gucci, and Aldo Gucci, respectively—don’t look plenty weird here, it’s just that none of them can match the spectacle of Leto’s Paolo Gucci, who looks like a high school senior who has started to apply old age make-up and somehow forgotten to ever stop. We half-expect him to mumble “I’ve got too much shit on me” and mutter about how he doesn’t want to be around any more.

Scott’s latest tells the story of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, who was killed (spoilers) by his ex-wife Patrizia in 1995. And, credit where it’s due: These posters have gone a long way to selling the lurid, weird tone that Scott is hopefully aiming for in this tale of intra-family fashion warfare. (Given that the director is working from a screenplay adapted from a book whose subtitle is “A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed,” we’re guessing we’re in for neither a stolid nor a sober ride.) House Of Gucci is out on November 24, 2021; meanwhile, its inevitable trailer has just immediately jumped to the top of our “Gotta get a load of this” list whenever it eventually arrives.

Update, 7:54 p.m.: Well, speak of the puffy-faced devil: Said trailer has now arrived, slamming into our senses with a lick of Blondie and a lot of fancy jackets. As one might have predicted, Leto’s face is just as distracting in motion as it is in still images. But Gaga and Driver both look genuinely mesmerizing—and not in a “dear god, why” sort of way—suggesting that Scott’s film might be just flashy enough to make all these big make-up shenanigans work.

The street prices of Nvidia and AMD GPUs are utterly out of control

You might have heard there’s a global semiconductor shortage going on, and that PC graphics cards in particular are nearly impossible to find. What you probably haven’t heard is that the situation has steadily been growing worse — to the point some GPUs are worth triple their MSRP.

Above, you’ll see a photo of two graphics cards, the $499 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and the $579 AMD Radeon RX 6800. In December, I calculated that the true street price of these cards had reached $819 and $841, respectively, or $1,660 for the pair.

That very same photo now contains $2,570 worth of GPUs. That’s not the asking price, mind you; people are actually paying over $1,200 on the open market, on average, for each of these graphics cards. And that isn’t even as bad as it gets.

This past week, I ran the PS5, Xbox Series X, and each of Nvidia’s and AMD’s new graphics cards through an open-source eBay scraper tool to figure out how much they’re worth on average over a seven-day period (big thanks to data analyst Michael Driscoll), then spent a handful of hours validating the results and weeding out fakes.

TL;DR: while the PS5 and Xboxes have actually cooled off a bit, you’ll pay double, even triple for a new AMD or Nvidia GPU.

GPU, PS5, Xbox street prices: March 2021

Item Retail Price Street Price (Dec 2020) Street Price (Mar 2021) Current value
Item Retail Price Street Price (Dec 2020) Street Price (Mar 2021) Current value
Nvidia RTX 3090 $1,499 $2,076 $2,985 1.99x
Nvidia RTX 3080 $699 $1,227 $2,160 3.09x
Nvidia RTX 3070 $499 $819 $1,239 2.48x
Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti $399 $675 $1,226 3.07x
Nvidia RTX 3060 $329 N/A $828 2.5x
AMD RX 6900 XT $999 Did not check $1,841 1.84x

Xbox Series X $499 $835 $805 1.61x
Xbox Series S $299 $471 $432 1.45x

RX 6700 XT is based on five, not seven days of eBay sales since it’s brand-new.

Frankly, I’m not sure which numbers are the most staggering here. Is it that the supposedly $329 RTX 3060 fetches over $800 on average, or that the RTX 3090 and 3080 are each worth $900 more than they were just three months ago? Or maybe is it that my own 3060 Ti, which I finally managed to snap up for its retail price of $399 after months of trying, could sell for $1,200 now?

I also looked at just how many of these items are actually getting sold on eBay, which can give you an idea of just how skewed the supply / demand equation is. For instance: over a seven-day period, eBay moved 5,284 PS5 consoles, and yet plenty of PS5s that were listed didn’t sell. PS5 scalping is becoming less profitable, eBay’s getting flooded, and things are slowing down.

How many PS5s, Xboxes, and GPUs changed hands?

AMD RX 6800 83
AMD RX 6700 XT 98

RX 6700 XT is based on five, not seven days of eBay sales since it’s brand-new.

Yet on the PC GPU side of things, it’s the opposite. Every single GPU seems to be selling unless they’re listed well above the average sale price, and there are a precious few of them to go around — just 83 of AMD’s RX 6800 and 141 of Nvidia’s RTX 3060 Ti changed hands during the same seven-day period as far as I can tell. There’s nothing here to suggest scalping will slow anytime soon.

It doesn’t help that the actual retail prices of these graphics cards have been edging northward, too. Whether it’s a reaction to the Trump tariffs or a blatant attempt to get a piece of the action, the GPUs that I actually do briefly see for sale at Amazon, Best Buy, and the Neweggs of the world are often far, far above the prices that AMD and Nvidia suggest, like an $840 RTX 3070 or a $900 RX 6800. The average list price for a $329.99 RTX 3060 was $471 on launch day. And while Newegg’s raffle originally seemed like a potentially fair way to pay retail, it’s almost become a parody now:

And yet when that $330 video card that you buy for $540 might get scalped for $830, it’s hard to be surprised when MSI and Newegg decide they want to extract a couple hundred dollars of that for themselves.

The question, as always, is when AMD and Nvidia are going to be able to produce more than a trickle of new graphics cards to address this pent-up demand, and I’m afraid the tea leaves aren’t looking particularly good. AMD’s promise of making “significantly more GPUs available” and regularly refreshing stock at its own website haven’t made a meaningful dent so far. And while Nvidia previously warned that it might take until late April for things to turn around, Digitimes now says sources at graphics card manufacturers expect Nvidia’s 30-series GPUs to stay in short supply through the third quarter of 2021.

Megan Anderson calls out Casey Kenney’s ‘utterly degrading’ comments; Kenney apologizes

Megan Anderson is not pleased with Casey Kenney.

During a recent appearance on the Timbo Sugarshow podcast with Tim Welch and UFC fighter Sean O’Malley, Kenney answered a question about whether he would have sex with the UFC featherweight title contender.

Anderson and Kenney are currently set to compete on the UFC 259 fight card in March, with Anderson challenging featherweight champion Amanda Nunes in the main event.

Kenney, who fights Dominick Cruz at UFC 259, quickly made an apology on Twitter, admitting “I was wrong” and promising to be “more careful with my words” in the future.

Welch also responded via Twitter to Anderson’s criticism:

Here’s how other notable MMA figures reacted to Kenney’s comments.
