Shah Rukh Khan’s “Unstoppable” Film Makes History, Over Rs 200 Crore Worldwide

Pathaan Box Office Report: Shah Rukh Khan in a still from the film

Shah Rukh Khan’s new release Pathaan made history on its second day at the box office, setting another record with earnings of Rs 68 crore. This sum, reported by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, is the total collected by the Hindi version of the film in ticket sales at home. On Day 2, which was yesterday, Pathaan made nearly Rs 70 crore – the first Hindi film to approach this number in a single day’s takings. Added to the Rs 55 crore earned on its opening day, Pathaan‘s India business now totals Rs 123 crore. The Tamil and Telugu dubs added another Rs 4.5 crore over two days. The worldwide ticket sales for two days add up to over Rs 200 crore.

Taran Adarsh tweeted: “All BO records demolished. Pathaan creates history on Day 2 as well. First Hindi film to near Rs 70 crore on a single day. Wed 55 cr, Th 68 cr (Republic Day). Total: Rs 123 cr. Hindi version. India biz. Unimaginable. Unprecedented. Unstoppable.” He reported the Tamil and Telugu numbers in a second tweet.

See Taran Adarsh’s tweets here:

Pathaan‘s first day collections of Rs 55 crore broke the record set by the Hindi version of KGF: Chapter 2 – Shah Rukh Khan’s film is Bollywood’s biggest opener. With overseas earnings added, Pathaan made its 100 crores on Day 1 itself – Rs 106 crore worldwide, to be precise.

The film hit a second century on Day 2 with worldwide earnings at over Rs 219 crore.

Several other firsts have piled up as well – Pathaan opened in 8,000 screens worldwide, the highest for any Hindi film; 300 shows were added by exhibitors after the very first screening. Pathaan sold about 5.5 lakh tickets in advance bookings, second only to the Hindi dub of KGF: Chapter 2 in terms of Hindi films.

Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan’s first lead role since 2018’s Zero, is an action thriller set in Yash Raj Films’ spy universe. Directed by Siddharth Anand, Pathaan stars SRK in the title role of a RAW agent who teams p with Deepika Padukone’s ISI agent to tackle a terror threat from the villainous Jim, played by John Abraham.

Gonorrhea is becoming unstoppable; highly resistant cases found in US

Colorized scanning electron micrograph of Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria, which causes gonorrhea.

The most highly drug-resistant cases of gonorrhea detected in the US to date appeared in two unrelated people in Massachusetts, state health officials announced Thursday.

The cases mark the first time that US isolates of the gonorrhea-causing bacterium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, have shown complete resistance or reduced susceptibility to all drugs that are recommended for treatment.

Fortunately, both cases were successfully cured with potent injections of the antibiotic ceftriaxone, despite the bacterial isolates demonstrating reduced susceptibility to the drug. Ceftriaxone is currently the frontline recommended treatment for the sexually transmitted infection.

But health officials said the cases are a warning. “N. gonorrhoeae is becoming less responsive to a limited arsenal of antibiotics,” they said.

Brewing resistance

For years, global surveillance data collected by the World Health Organization has shown that gonorrhea is becoming more and more resistant to our entire lineup of drugs, including frontline drugs like ceftriaxone. Though surveillance is spotty globally, a study of WHO’s 2017–2018 data published in 2021 found N. gonorrhoeae isolates with decreased susceptibility or resistance to ceftriaxone have turned up in 21 of the 68 reporting countries, or 31 percent.

Resistance against alternative antibiotics was even higher. Among the 61 countries reporting data on an alternative antibiotic, azithromycin, 51 countries (84 percent) reported resistance. And of 51 countries reporting data on the alternative antibiotic treatment, cefixime, 24 countries (47 percent) reported resistance. For ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic largely abandoned as a gonorrhea treatment due to resistance, all 70 reporting countries found resistance.

“In many countries, ciprofloxacin resistance is extremely high, azithromycin resistance is rapidly increasing, and resistance or decreased susceptibility to ceftriaxone and cefixime continue to emerge,” the WHO said in 2021. “Without new gonorrhoea treatments, there will be people with gonorrhoea infections that will be difficult to treat and cure.”

The agency wasn’t exaggerating. Last year, WHO added that reports of gonorrhea treatment failure are stacking up. “In the past decade, confirmed failure to cure gonorrhoea with ceftriaxone alone or combined with azithromycin or doxycyline was reported in Australia, France, Japan, Slovenia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,” WHO reported.

One of the isolates reported in Massachusetts yesterday demonstrated reduced susceptibility to ceftriaxone, cefixime, and azithromycin and resistance to ciprofloxacin, penicillin, and tetracycline in lab tests. The second isolate appeared to have a similar profile based on genetic data, Massachusetts’ public health department reported. This strain of N. gonorrhoeae has been seen circulating in Asia-Pacific countries and has been detected in recent cases in the UK.

High cases

Alongside the worrying trend of increased resistance is the fact that gonorrhea cases are high worldwide and are on the rise in the US. In 2020, WHO estimated that there were 82.4 million new cases of gonorrhea worldwide. In the US, there were nearly 700,000 cases in 2021, up more than 25 percent from 2017, according to preliminary estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In many people, gonorrhea has no symptoms. In others, it’s so mild that it may be mistaken as a minor bladder infection or yeast infection. Over time, however, it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, severe pain, and fertility problems. Health officials stress the need for screening and surveillance to treat infections early before they become severe and have a chance to spread.

For the two Massachusetts cases, health officials are now working on contact tracing. Without a clear link between the two cases, officials say it’s likely it’s more widespread than currently known.

“The discovery of this strain of gonorrhea is a serious public health concern which DPH, the CDC, and other health departments have been vigilant about detecting in the US,” Massachusetts Public Health Commissioner Margret Cooke said in a statement. “We urge all sexually active people to be regularly tested for sexually transmitted infections and to consider reducing the number of their sexual partners and increasing their use of condoms when having sex. Clinicians are advised to review the clinical alert and assist with our expanded surveillance efforts.”

Joe Rogan is ‘unstoppable’ after confronting cancel culture: Concha

Fox News contributor Joe Concha told “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Friday that Joe Rogan is “bigger than ever” after confronting cancel culture.

JOE CONCHA: That is one hundred percent the playbook: Never back down, never apologize, go forward and believe in free speech. … Meanwhile, here’s how the scoreboard is going. Eleven million people listen to Joe Rogan on a daily basis. CNN international brand, 42 years with thousands of employees, is watched by less than 500,000 viewers. Now here’s what all this effort to cancel Joe Rogan has resulted in. He’s bigger than ever. He’s more powerful than ever, and all the press he’s received good, bad, ugly has only resulted in more people like me who really never listen to Joe Rogan’s podcast before now checking him out on a daily basis.

Rush Limbaugh, they tried to cancel him, Howard Stern, they tried to cancel him and they only got bigger. Rogan has created a bigger market for himself now. If Spotify were to fold, there’s Rumble to pay $100 million to him because in the end, greed, Jesse, works. Greed is good. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Joe Rogan is unstoppable now.

Jackass Forever review – unstoppable comedy stunt show still has a sting in its tail | Film

Twenty years on, after innumerable TV series and spin-offs, lawsuits and movie franchise iterations the Jackass crew is back with yet another festival of fantastically pointless and immature bad taste, including a new younger generation of Jackass stuntsters who tell the camera they can’t believe they’re on the show they grew up with. The last film was Jackass 3D in 2010, part of the 3D craze in cinema which has now been quietly abandoned without anyone noticing or caring. But Jackass marches on.

As ever, the guys are taking turns doing stupid and dangerous things, while the rest of the gang scream with supportive, incredulous laughter and the participants scream with laughter right back at them once the stunt is over. In fact, the real Jackass gonzo discipline would seem to be keeping up the grinning party mood even after a heavyweight boxer has hit you in the balls. Are there any cutting-room-floor-moments when any of them seriously lost their sense of humour?

The gang are getting attacked by bees, bears, bulls. One woman gets a “scorpion botox”: the creature stings her on the lips. Jackass leader Johnny Knoxville is fired into the air wearing feathery wings in homage to the Icarus myth. It hardly needs saying that the Jackass identity is overwhelmingly male – but what also needs saying is that the movies are unique in popular culture in actually showing the penis: that part of the male body that is fastidiously avoided in even the most avowedly explicit films. In Jackass Forever, the penis is shown repeatedly, explicitly and in a way that’s weirdly the opposite of macho. Its vulnerability and absurdity is what comes across in Jackass. It’s like an exotic, strange creature, a victim-version of the menacing creatures in the film – like the huge spider that in one very ingenious game is set up in a plastic tube interconnecting two plastic helmets in which two players’ heads are enclosed. Each has to blow the spider at the other and the loser, having let the spider into his helmet, has to let the spider bite him.

“This isn’t a Mensa convention!” says one player. Is that disingenuous? Isn’t there, in fact, some advanced showbiz intelligence and surrealist savvy in the way Jackass is set up and edited? Either way, it has a horror-comedy impact.

Jackass Forever is released on 4 February in cinemas.

Self-made star Nani goes UNSTOPPABLE with NBK –

‘Unstoppable with NBK’ is the latest talk show in the town. Nandamuri Balakrishna turned a host for this Aha talk show and the first episode with Mohan Babu already caught everyone’s attention. Now, Natural Star Nani is the second guest on the show. The show organizers launched the second episode’s promo today.

Balakrishna introduced Nani as a hero who rose to stardom with no background. “Ee roju mana guest, mee nunchi vachadu. Self-made ki surname Nani,” Balakrishna said. Balakrishna was expecting Nani from backstage but Nani appears in the crowd.

Just like the first episode, the second episode promo is also a mix of fun, and emotional elements. Both Balakrishna and Nani played a cricket-like game. “I enjoy playing cricket. There will be a cricket kit in my car wherever I go,” said Balakrishna, adding, “including a guard”. It split everyone into laughs.

When Balakrishna shared that watching his father’s films with Mansion house is relaxation for him, Nani told the Simha actor that watching films is relaxation for him as well. Immediately, Balakrishna counters Nani saying, “Pulihora Kaburlu Cheppaku.”

Nani shared interesting aspects of his life, career, and especially the phase where two of his films were released directly on the OTT.

The episode will premiere on 12th November on Aha.

Luka Doncic gave the Dallas Mavericks another night of unstoppable offense

DALLAS — Sometimes, it doesn’t matter who defends Luka Doncic. Case in point — or 42 points, actually — Paul George, the LA Clippers superstar whose name always comes up in conversations about the NBA’s premier perimeter stoppers. Doncic made the four-time All-Defensive selection look foolish on numerous occasions during his masterful performance in the Dallas Mavericks ‘ 105-89 win on Wednesday.

Doncic, who finished with 42 points on 16-of-28 shooting and nine assists, didn’t do all his damage against George. Kawhi Leonard didn’t have any luck on him, either. Neither did Nicolas Batum. Or anyone else the Clippers threw at the 22-year-old All-Star. And it wasn’t for a lack of effort.

“For the most part, defensively, I thought we did a good job even though Luka torched us,” Clippers coach Ty Lue said.

George got the worst of it. According to Second Synergy data, half of Doncic’s points came when he was matched up with George in the half court. Doncic had 21 points on 15 shots — on 70% effective field goal percentage — and dished out five assists with no turnovers when guarded by George.

“I thought we played great defense,” George said, “but they hit some really, really tough shots, and they made some really, really big plays.”

The play that produced the most gasps was probably a Doncic miss. If Doncic swished that particular step-back shot, it would have been a viral highlight within seconds, as he slammed on the brakes and crossed over so suddenly that George stumbled to the hardwood, putting both hands down to break his fall as Doncic released the shot.

It wasn’t quite as nasty as James Harden’s crossover and step-back jumper a few years ago that caused former Clippers forward Wes Johnson to involuntarily take a seat in the middle of the court. But this was against Paul George, not some journeyman.

Doncic’s last bucket, a dagger floater with 1:27 remaining, came after another move that made George’s hand go to the floor to prevent himself from falling. It was a behind-the-back crossover on the right wing, where George stayed after regaining his balance, getting a nice view of Doncic finishing in the lane.

“I’m not going to say anything about Paul George, who may have slipped on the floor or something like that, but Luka’s a great player,” Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said, emphasizing the respect he had for George and the Clippers. “He has the ability to make these stop-on-a-dime plays that are really exceptionally special.”

There aren’t many answers for Doncic when he is shooting efficiently from 3-point range, which he has done on a regular basis recently. Doncic has shot 43% from deep in his past 14 games — and 50.5% from the floor overall — averaging 30.5 points and 9.2 assists in that span. Not coincidentally, the Mavs (21-18) have won 11 of 14 games, marching back into the Western Conference playoff picture after falling five games under .500.

It’s no secret Doncic wants to take step-back shots going to his left, particularly from the left wing. The Clippers (26-16) know that better than anyone, considering it’s the shot and spot of Doncic’s unforgettable overtime buzzer-beater to punctuate a 43-point triple-double in a bubble playoff victory over them.

Yet Doncic was still 6-of-11 from 3-point range on Wednesday, including a four-point play when he paused after stepping back, leaned in and drew contact from Leonard as he let the shot go.

“At times, we let him get to the left step-back too much, and he got comfortable,” Leonard said. “He got hot and made shots, and it’s hard to turn off that water once a great player like that gets rolling.”

ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk contributed to this report.
