Rishabh Pant Accident: Star Cricketer’s Brain, Spinal Cord MRI Normal, Undergoes Plastic Surgery – Report

India woke up to the shocking news of Rishabh Pant’s horrific car accident on Friday. The wicketkeeper-batter had a miraculous escape when his luxury car crashed into a road divider and caught fire after he dozed off at the wheel on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in the early hours of Friday. The 25-year-old, who was on his way to his hometown Roorkee to surprise his mother, suffered injuries on his head, back and feet but is in a stable condition following the accident in Manglaur in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district around 5.30 am, police said. Pant is currently admitted in a hospital in Dehradun.

According to an ESPNCricinfo report, the results of Rishabh Pant’s MRI of the brain and spinal cord has returned as ‘normal.’ He has also undergone plastic surgery intervention for facial injuries, lacerated wounds and abrasions. Pant will have an MRI on his ankle and knee on Saturday as there was pain and swelling on Friday.

The report added that the doctors at Max Hospital in Dehradun, where Pant is admitted, have given him “above knee splintage … for suspected right knee ligament injury, and suspected right ankle ligament injury”. The latest medical bulletin from the hospital said that Pant is “stable, conscious and oriented”.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an update on the health condition of the 25-year-old cricketer. Pant has two cuts on forehead and a ligament tear in right knee but is currently stable, read a statement from the cricket body.

“India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant met with a car accident early on Friday morning near Roorkee, Uttarakhand. He was admitted to Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre where he was treated for impact injuries. Rishabh has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back,” the BCCI statement read.

“Rishabh’s condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment.”

“The BCCI is in constant touch with Rishabh’s family while the Medical Team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The Board will see to it that Rishabh receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase,” the statement added.

Pant, who was on his way to his hometown Roorkee to surprise his mother, dozed off while driving, which resulted in the accident. He had to break the windscreen of the car to escape after the vehicle caught fire. The driver and other staff of a Haryana Roadways bus passing by helped the cricketer get out of the burning Mercedes Benz, said Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh. The car was completely charred and reduced to a mangled heap. Pant, who was alone in the car, dozed off and the car hit the divider before bursting into flames, he said.

Director General of Uttarakhand Police, Ashok Kumar, has confirmed that the cricketer was alone in the car at the time of the accident and broke the windscreen to escape from the vehicle after it caught fire.

List of school closures: City of Houston undergoes boil water notice after power outage at East Purification plant

Tuesday, November 29, 2022 1:46AM

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A boil water notice for the entire City of Houston is giving thousands of students a second unexpected day off.

Multiple school districts and colleges announced closures on Monday.

The following list below names all districts that will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 29 amid the order

  • Houston Independent School District will remain closed and employees will work from home.
  • Aldine ISD will remain closed on Tuesday Nov. 29.
  • Sheldon ISD will be closed after not initially being affected in Sunday’s notice but as of early Monday two schools were in the impacted area.
  • Yes Prep Public Schools will remain closed and anticipates all students will be welcomed back on Wednesday, Nov. 30
  • Channelview ISD will be closing all facilities after the Harris County Water Control and Improvement District issued a boil notice that affected multiple schools in the area.
  • Spring Branch ISD will remain closed, but all athletic competitions and practices will proceed.
  • RELATED: Entire City of Houston placed under boil water notice after system outage

If your child attends a private school, make sure you check with the school. Private schools will often follow HISD’s lead for closures.

As for the steps you should take, the City of Houston says the boil water notice impacts water consumption only. So water you drink or use to cook needs to be boiled before using, but bathing in tap water is fine.

    Boil water notice tips:

    • Boil all water used for food, drinking and brushing teeth
    • Bring to a rolling boil for at least two minutes
    • Do not use chilled water lines on refrigerators
    • Do not use ice from an automatic ice machine

Officials said the notice should last until Tuesday morning.

The reason the boil water notice was issued is due to a power outage at a purification plant. The outage happened on Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m., but the notice wasn’t issued until just after 7 p.m.

The Director of Houston Water said that’s how long the process took to issue the advisory.

Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Sarah Sanders undergoes surgery for thyroid cancer

Sarah Sanders, the Republican nominee for Arkansas governor and former White House press secretary in the Trump administration, said Friday that she underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland after doctors discovered cancer earlier this month.

Sanders, 40, said she is cancer free and will be returning to the campaign trail.

“During a checkup earlier this month, my doctor ordered a biopsy on an area of concern in my neck and the test revealed that I had thyroid cancer,” Sanders said. “Today, I underwent a successful surgery to remove my thyroid and surrounding lymph nodes and by the grace of God I am now cancer-free.”

Sanders included a statement from her physician, John R. Sims, who said her cancer was “Stage 1 papillary thyroid carcinoma,” which he described as the most common type of thyroid cancer. Sims said Sanders will require “adjuvant treatment with radioactive iodine” and called her prognosis excellent.

Sanders, an Arkansas native and daughter of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R), managed her father’s unsuccessful presidential run in 2016 before joining Donald Trump’s campaign as senior communications adviser. She also served as a spokeswoman during Trump’s first presidential campaign.

She left the White House as press secretary in June 2019. At the time, Trump urged her to run for governor.

At the White House, she first worked as the top deputy to Sean Spicer, Trump’s first press secretary, until he resigned in July 2017, when she assumed his role. She was the first working mother and only the third woman to serve as White House press secretary, as reported by the Associated Press.

During her early days, some praised her calm demeanor in then-daily briefings with the press — a stark contrast to Spicer. But Sanders soon clashed with reporters, passionately defending Trump while confronting reporters — even when the information she provided was, at times, false.

One such instance earned a note in special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report on Russian interference in the election. In May 2017, Sanders claimed that the White House had heard from “countless members of the FBI” supporting Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James B. Comey. She doubled down on the claim the next day, insisting that supportive emails and texts had flown in.

In Mueller’s report, though, she said under oath that the claim was a “slip of the tongue.”

In announcing her candidacy for governor, Sanders said, “I took on the media, the radical left and their ‘cancel culture,’ and I won. As governor, I will be your voice, and never let them silence you.”

She is heavily favored to win in November in the Republican-leaning state against Democrat Chris Jones.

Donated wedding helps ease heartache as Staten Island man, 34, undergoes treatment for terminal brain cancer

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Next week, Michelle Narducci-Aubry and Andrew Aubry will celebrate their marriage in front of their closest relatives and friends. The road to tie the knot has been extremely difficult for the loving couple.

When Narducci-Aubry first saw Aubry while they lived in the same apartment complex in Westerleigh, she knew he would be the most important person in her life.

She quickly played matchmaker for herself – heading to the same corner store when she saw Andrew walk by. And it worked. They struck up a conversation in the store one day and started to spend time together in the complex. One night, during a rare celestial event, Narducci-Aubry asked Andrew to skywatch with her.

“Ever since then, we’ve been inseparable,” Narducci-Aubry, 38, said.

The pair started to date in 2019 and he proposed Dec. 6, 2020. They moved into a new apartment together in Charleston and began to plan their future together, starting with an October 2023 wedding.

But then their world turned upside down when Aubry, 34, suffered a severe headache six months ago.

On Feb. 17, Narducci-Aubry rushed Andrew to Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) in Prince’s Bay because he had “the worst headache of his life for the last 24 hours.”

“He had no relief from Motrin 800. And then when he started to projectile vomit and lose his footing, I automatically thought aneurysm and so did he,” she recalled. “So I said to get in the car and we’re driving to the [SIUH] south site and he keeps telling me, ‘If you love me, you’ll take me back to my bed.’ And I said, ‘I love you, that’s why I’m taking you to the hospital.’”

Within 20 minutes of arriving, the hospital provided the results of his CAT scan. Dr. James Kenny sat the couple down and explained why Andrew suffered the headache.

There was a mass in Andrew’s brain the size of a clementine in his basal ganglia and thalamus — the deepest-seated part of the brain and extremely close to his brainstem.

He was quickly transferred via ambulance to SIUH in Ocean Breeze and started him on an anti-seizure medication. He stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until Feb. 22, and just a few days later, was in major surgery with Dr. Raphael Sacho, who performed a partial resection and removed 70% of the tumor successfully.

“He only felt pins and needles but he was not paralyzed, no bleeding,” said Narducci-Aubry. “He was able to speak, no cognitive impairment, thank God. So then I automatically took him directly into the city [Manhattan] once the resection was done because a biopsy was done at the same time. And we were told that it was in fact malignant. So it was cancer.”

Aubry has astrocytoma, a type of cancer than can occur in the brain or spinal cord. It begins in cells called astrocytes that support nerve cells. Some astrocytomas grow very slowly and others can be aggressive cancers that grow quickly.

The pair went to NYU Langone in Manhattan where he received six weeks of standard of care treatment. But his pathology report came back that showed he has a specific mutation in the tumor in his brain that makes it typically unresponsive to the standard care treatment.

“So in the six weeks of treatment, he actually had a number of setbacks, one of which was hydrocephalus — the accumulation and buildup of cerebral spinal fluid in the brain. Because the tumor was growing so quickly because of that mutation, it closed off one of the ventricles in the brain and it wasn’t allowing it to drain properly,” said Narducci-Aubry. “So he needed an emergency shunt surgery. Also at NYU. It’s a VP shunt, it’s called, it goes from the brain down his neck and it drains out into his abdomen, and it’s either absorbed or excreted through his urine or bowels. After that, he had to wait two weeks to heal and resumed the rest of the six weeks of treatment.”

Narducci-Aubry had to quit her job. A GoFundMe was created to help with living expenses. (Courtesy/Michelle Narducci-Aubry)

The initial six-week effort took closer to two and a half months to complete due to setbacks.

Aubry went for another MRI a month after his last treatment round, but more bad news came: It showed a tumor growth of two millimeters. He started another aggressive, double-dose round of chemo.

On Wednesday, Aubry is scheduled for yet another test. Those results will determine if Aubry is a candidate for the LiTT procedure by Dr. Michael Schulder at Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, Long Island.

The LiTT procedure is considered minimally invasive and is for inoperable brain tumors. The doctor makes a less than a centimeter incision in the scalp under a guided MRI. They enter a micro-catheter laser directly into the center of the tumor, heat the laser, and kill the tumor from the inside out.

The recovery time lasts about two weeks. But there are risks to the surgery. Swelling and bleeding could occur, or even more extreme, Aubry could become paralyzed.

“We’re going to try to get our honeymoon in before the LiTT procedure. If not, he’ll get the LiTT procedure done and then you know, months down the road, we’ll take it as it goes. But unfortunately, the cancer is terminal,” Narducci-Aubry said. “It will always come back and it will be the cause of death for Andrew.”

A GoFundMe has been created to help with expenses for the couple.

Narducci-Aubry had to leave her job as a phlebotomist to take care of Aubry full-time.

Aubry is still able to walk and is undergoing occupational and physical therapy once a week. But he neglects his right side of the body due to the tumor growth in his brain. His short-term memory is also non-existent, Narducci-Aubry said.

“I repeat myself all day every day,” she said. “He leaves lights on, he leaves water running. He gets confused. He’ll start a task but never finish it. I’ll walk into the bedroom and I’ll find him just standing there and I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ And he’s like, ‘Nothing just standing here.’ and I’m like, ‘Okay.’ And he knows this. He knows that his cognitive – he’s impaired. And he is not taking it well at all. He’s very hard on himself. He suffers terribly with depression, and he’s very, very scared. He tells me every day, ‘I’m scared. I’m scared to die.’ And every day he apologizes to me.”

    WISH UPON A WEDDING

Narducci-Aubry explained that, in February, Andrew was given 12 to 15 months to live. A month later, the couple was married by their friend on March 23 in their apartment.

They’re celebrating their love together with a wedding ceremony and reception on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Their dream wedding will be granted by the non-profit, Wish Upon a Wedding, which provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or life-altering health circumstances. It helps alleviate the financial burden and time commitment that planning a wedding entails, focusing instead on dealing with their treatments and spending time with their loved ones.

Narducci-Aubry will look radiant in her dream wedding gown from David’s Bridal when she ties the knot with her husband (again!) on Sunday on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden in Livingston, with a reception to follow. Boulevard Cleaners 2 on Amboy Road in Pleasant Plains is providing a free tuxedo and alterations to Aubry for the big day.

Relish will cater the wedding and Palermo Bakery in New Jersey is donating the wedding cake.

“It’s definitely gonna be a much more beautiful wedding than the one that we were able to afford ourselves [when planning] back in May so we’re very grateful,” she said.

Primary Election 2022: Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman undergoes successful procedure to implant pacemaker after stroke

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania — Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the leading contender in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, underwent a successful procedure to implant a pacemaker following last week’s stroke.

“Doc just called me, Joo’s procedure is over and it was PERFECT!,” Fetterman’s wife, Gisele, tweeted.

According to Fetterman’s campaign, the pacemaker will help protect his heart and address the underlying cause of his stroke, atrial fibrillation (A-fib), by regulating his heart rate and rhythm.

The 52-year-old Fetterman, who has been hospitalized all weekend, previously insisted the health emergency wasn’t slowing his campaign.
On Friday morning, before Fetterman was to appear at a scheduled campaign event at Millersville University, Fetterman’s wife “noticed that John was not himself, and shortly after he started slurring his speech and he was taken to the hospital,” a campaign spokesperson said.
In a 16-second video released by his campaign, a seated Fetterman, speaking clearly, explained that he “just wasn’t feeling very well” on Friday and decided to go to the hospital at the urging of his wife. He detailed the situation further in a written statement.

“I had a stroke that was caused by a clot from my heart being in an A-fib rhythm for too long,” Fetterman said. He said the doctors were able to remove the clot, “reversing the stroke,” and got his heart under control.

“The good news is I’m feeling much better, and the doctors tell me I didn’t suffer any cognitive damage,” he said in the statement.
Questions about Fetterman’s health swirled throughout the weekend after he canceled scheduled public appearances Friday, Saturday and Sunday. His campaign cited a health issue but was not specific until Sunday.

Democrats see the race to replace Pennsylvania’s retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey as one of their best opportunities to pick up a Senate seat this fall. Voters are now deciding the general election nominees for both parties.

The GOP primary features celebrity heart surgeon Mehmet Oz, former hedge fund executive David McCormick and conservative commentator Kathy Barnette, among others. Democrats are picking from a four-person field that includes Fetterman, three-term U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta.
