Elon Musk housecleaning at Twitter HQ finds #StayWoke t-shirts, pledges to ‘earn trust’

Elon Musk, continuing his overhaul of Twitter, said Tuesday he had stumbled upon a closet full of “#StayWoke” t-shirts at the company’s headquarters.

In a Twitter post, Musk shared a video of a closet containing shelves stacked with the “#StayWoke” t-shirts.

“Here we are at the merch … and there’s an entire closet full of hashtag woke t-shirts,” he says.

“A super closet,” someone says off-camera.

Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey wore a “#StayWoke” t-shirt during an interview with journalist Peter Kafka for ReCode’s Code conference in 2016.

When asked to explain his shirt, Dorsey said the meaning has evolved over time but “to me… it’s really being aware, and staying aware, and keep questioning.”

“Being awake, and eyes wide open around what’s happening in the world,” Dorsey said.

He then described, what he viewed, were discrepancies in the coverage of the 2014 Ferguson, Missouri, unrest versus the reality on the ground.

“And to me, that’s when I really first saw this phrase in action — was making sure that we’re telling our story, and we’re telling what’s on the ground, and we saw it live through Twitter,” he said.

In the last few years, the phrase has come to represent an embrace of progressive activism. With the rise of cancel culture, many have interpreted “woke” to describe people who would rather silence their critics than listen to them.

Musk’s takeover of Twitter late last month, following a chaotic back-and-forth legal battle, was praised among conservative circles — many of whom have been banned from Twitter — as the turning of the tide against “woke” culture and ideology.

Musk himself has been critical of “wokeness.” Earlier this year, he ripped Netflix as having a “woke mind virus” that makes the subscription streaming “unwatchable.”

In another instance, he jokingly tweeted his idea for a new game called “Woketopia … Battle for the Moral High Ground.”

Early Wednesday, Musk vowed that Twitter will “more and more over time” earn the trust of the people “as we hew closer to the truth.”

WWE releases White Rabbit t-shirts online – WON/F4W

On the day that many expect a big return on WWE SmackDown, the company released two different t-shirts on WWEShop.com that feature a white rabbit and a hangman game.

One is a black shirt that simply has a rabbit on it while another has the “Who killed the world? You did.” phrase with the hangman game featured in a video that launched Monday. WWE not so subtly featured a QR code on Raw in the background several times that took viewers to the video.

The video ends with 9.23 which is tonight when SmackDown will emanate from Salt Lake City, Utah.

This follows the company playing the song “White Rabbit” from Jefferson Airplane last Friday during a SmackDown commercial break and then over the weekend.

The speculation is that this is all tied into the return of Bray Wyatt who was released in July 2021. Since then, the 35-year-old has yet to appear in a wrestling ring but has been on social media from time to time.

Alec Baldwin shooting – latest news: Trump Jr sells mocking T-shirts as Halyna Hutchins family speak out

Candlelit vigil held for Halyna Hutchins after deadly shooting

Alec Baldwin had been practising a “cross-draw” weapons firing technique and was aiming at a camera when a prop gun went off, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, according to multiple witness statements.

Authorities in Sante Fe have released statements by Rust director Joel Souza and a cameraman which said the accidental shooting happened during a scene filmed inside a mock church.

Mr Souza, 48, told investigators he was standing behind the camera next to Ms Hutchins when he heard a loud pop.

He noticed both he and Ms Hutchins were bleeding, and she fell to the ground moments later.

Meanwhile, the chief electrician on Rust, Serge Svetnoy, told how he held Ms Hutchins in his arms while she lay dying in an emotional tribute on Facebook.

“I was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Halyna during this fatal shot that took her life and injured the director Joel Souza,” Mr Svetnoy wrote.

“I was holding her in my arms while she was dying. Her blood was on my hands.”

He said the  the accidental shooting on the film set in New Mexico on Thursday was the “fault of negligence and unprofessionalism” by those responsible for ensuring gun safety on set.

On Sunday, hundreds attended a vigil for cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

On Friday, Mr Baldwin said in a statement: “My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Donald Trump Jr sells T-shirts mocking Alec Baldwin over fatal on-set shooting

Donald Trump Jr is selling T-shirts on his personal website with the words: “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people”.

Mr Trump has repeatedly mocked Mr Baldwin in a series of inflammatory Instagram posts about Thursday’s accidental shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in New Mexico.

According to multiple witness accounts, Mr Baldwin was heard being given a “cold gun” shortly before firing the prop gun towards a camera, killing Ms Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

Crew members and Ms Hutchins’ family have blamed the shooting on “negligence” by those responsible for ensuring gun safety on the set, and said Mr Baldwin was not to blame.

Father of Halyna Hutchins says Alec Baldwin is not responsible for her death

Halyna Hutchins’ father Anatoly Androsovych has blamed the death of his daughter on the “people who hold the guns”.

Speaking to The Sun from his home in the Ukraine, Mr Androsovych said the family were still processing the shock of Ms Hutchins’ death.

“I don’t hold Alec Baldwin responsible — it is the responsibility of the props people who handle the guns,” he said.

Mr Baldwin had been practising upholstering a prop gun and firing it at a camera when it went off, killing Ms Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

Authorities are investigating the accidental shooting of Ms Hutchins on the set of Rust in New Mexico on Thursday.

Mr Androsovych said his daughter’s husband Matt, a Los Angeles-based lawyer, would decide whether they would pursue legal action.

Rust’s chief electrician says Halyna Hutchins’ death was due to ‘negligence and unprofessionalism’

The chief electrician on the set of Rust has told how he held Halyna Hutchins in his arms as she bled to death.

Serge Svetnoy said the accidental shooting on the film set in New Mexico on Thursday was the “fault of negligence and unprofessionalism” by those responsible for ensuring gun safety.

In an emotional post on Facebook, Mr Svetnoy said he had worked closely with Ms Hutchins, a 42-year-old cinematographer, on several movies.

“I was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Halyna during this fatal shot that took her life and injured the director Joel Souza,” he wrote.

“I was holding her in my arms while she was dying. Her blood was on my hands.”

He said the producers of Rust had hired an “inexperienced armourer”.

“To save a dime sometimes, you hire people who are not fully qualified for the complicated and dangerous job, and you risk the lives of the other people who are close and your lives as well,” he wrote.

Mr Svetnoy, who worked on several film productions with Ms Hutchins, said he was devastated for her husband Matt Hutchins and for Mr Baldwin.

“He has to live with the thought that he took the life of the human because of unprofessional people.”

Alec Baldwin was practising ‘cross-draw’ shot at camera when accidental shooting occurred

Alec Baldwin had been practising pointing his weapon at a camera on the set of Rust when the prop gun accidentally went off, killing Halyna Hutchins, according to new witness statements made public on Sunday night.

A witness account from director Joel Souza released by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department on Sunday provided fresh details into the shooting, which occurred in an onset church while Mr Baldwin was practicing a “cross-draw”.

Mr Baldwin was attempting to reach across his body to draw the handgun when he aimed it at the camera, as Ms Hutchins, 42, and Mr Souza stood behind.

Mr Souza told the sheriff’s office in an interview that he heard a loud pop and then noticed that both he and Ms Hutchins were bleeding.

Ms Hutchins fell backward and complained of feeling pain before being helped to the ground, the director said.

Mr Souza, 48, said he recalled hearing the words “cold gun” prior to the accidental shooting, which means the gun had been safety checked.

The camera was not been filming when the accidental shooting occurred, authorities said.

Filmmakers explain what it’s really like to work with guns on set

Filmmakers Christopher Gist and Sarah Mayberry say the safety procedures involved in using firearms on weapons on set are exacting.

Writing for The Independent, the pair who recently shot psychological crime thriller Darklands said it was important to operate with an “abundance of caution”.

“A gun with no ammunition – that is, a gun with neither a bullet nor blanks – is not dangerous.

“But even so, on set there is always an armorer, a safety officer, and a stunt coordinator: at least three people who always have an eye on the guns on set.”

‘Careful’ Alec Baldwin ordered child away when previously discharging gun on set

A cameraman working on Rust said Alec Baldwin was careful with prop guns on set, after a shooting accident led to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s death.

According to court documents filed by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, and seen by The New York Times, camera operator Reid Russell confirmed the actor was “very careful” of his surroundings when rehearsing or shooting with firearms.

Russell also shared an instance when Baldwin ensured no child actors were present when he discharged a gun.

Actors baffled by circumstances surrounding cinematographer’s death

Hollywood professionals say they are baffled by the circumstances that led to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ death on the set of Rust – and that production crews have quickly stepped up safety measures.

Jeffrey Wright, who has worked on projects including the James Bond franchise and the upcoming movie The Batman was acting with a weapon on the set of Westworld when news broke of the fatal shooting on Thursday.

“We were all pretty shocked. And it informed what we did from that moment on,” he said in an interview at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

“I don’t recall ever being handed a weapon that was not cleared in front of me — meaning chamber open, barrel shown to me, light flashed inside the barrel to make sure that it’s cleared,” Wright said. “Clearly, that was a mismanaged set.”

Actor Ray Liotta agreed with Wright that the checks on firearms are usually extensive.

“They always — that I know of — they check it so you can see,” Liotta said. “They give it to the person you’re pointing the gun at, they do it to the producer, they show whoever is there that it doesn’t work.”

Donald Trump Jr. Is Hawking Shockingly Tacky ‘Alec Baldwin Kills People’ T-Shirts

It’s only been three days since Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but the Trump family has never been known to hang around when there’s a tawdry buck to make.

The oldest Trump son, Donald Jr., is hawking $27.99 T-shirts on his official site with the mocking slogan: “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people.” On his Instagram stories, the Trump son also posted a photoshopped pic of the actor wearing one of the Ts.

It’s the latest and possibly most egregious example of Trumpworld’s celebration of Thursday’s fatal accident on the set of Rust. The alt-right has reveled in the shooting due to Baldwin’s previous mockery of ex-President Donald Trump and his advocacy for tighter controls on firearms.

J.D. Vance, author of Hillbilly Elegy and a Republican Senate candidate in Ohio, used Hutchins’ death to suck up to Trump. Hours after news of the shooting broke, Vance tweeted at Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey: “Dear @jack let Trump back on. We need Alec Baldwin tweets.” Candace Owens said the shooting was “poetic justice” for Baldwin’s Trump mockery.

Donald Trump Jr. seemed to anticipate the completely justified criticism coming his way over his tacky merchandise sale, writing in a later Instagram post: “Screw all the sanctimony I’m seeing out there. If the shoe was on the other foot Alex Baldwin would literally be the first person pissing on everybody’s grave trying to make a point. Fuck him!”

While Trump may be finding the fatal accident funny, Baldwin has said his “heart is broken” over Hutchins’ death, which, according to legal papers, happened after the actor was handed a gun that he was told was unloaded. Hutchins’ father said over the weekend that he doesn’t blame Baldwin for her death, but the movie’s firearms team.

Instagram has been approached for comment on the posts.

SF Giants wear Brandon Belt-inspired T-shirts to show support for injured ‘captain’

The San Francisco Giants were dealt a serious blow when first baseman and self-anointed team captain Brandon Belt fractured his left thumb on a bunt attempt Sunday against the Colorado Rockies.

This came a few weeks after Belt was seen at a game against the Cubs in Chicago with a hilarious taped-on “C” on his uniform, something teammate Evan Longoria did as a joking response to Belt’s insistence on the team plane that he deserved the title of team captain.

“You know, somebody has got to step up, and when you’re the alpha male on the team it’s got to be you,” Belt said at the time. “I put the ‘C’ on my chest and I went to work today, and thankfully it worked out.”

It definitely seemed like something that brought the team together as they continue to fight to hold off the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the NL West. On a recent road trip to Colorado, the Giants’ “sea men” posed with their “captain” before boarding the team plane.

But now that their captain is down, his teammates want him to know that he’s on their minds.

Several members of the Giants were seen wearing T-shirts inspired by the tape job.

The Giants are playing the Arizona Diamondbacks at Oracle Park on Wednesday with SF’s Alex Wood (10-4) facing Arizona’s Merrill Kelly (7-11). SF has a two-game lead over the Dodgers in the NL West with five games left in the regular season.

If the Giants win the division, SF’s first playoff game will be played Friday, Oct. 8. If the Dodgers sneak ahead by the season’s end, the Giants will play in the NL wild card match-up on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

If SF and LA finish the season tied atop the NL West, they would play a one-game tiebreaker on Monday, Oct. 4, to determine the division winner.

Belt is likely to miss any playoff start date.
