Andrew Tate latest news: No evidence for trafficking or rape charges against brothers, says lawyer

Joe Rogan mocks Andrew Tate’s arrest and commends Greta Thunberg’s tweet

Andrew Tate’s lawyer has claimed there is “no evidence” to support allegations of human trafficking, rape or organised crime against him or his brother.

The former professional kickboxer turned controversial influencer, 36, and his brother Tristan were detained in Romania last month as part of an investigation by the Romanian organised crime bureau.

Eugen Vidineac, who represents both brothers, told Romanian newssite Gandul the defence had not been given the opportunity to study the prosecution file for the case.

“I will point this out from the beginning, that even up to the present moment, the criminal investigation file has not been made available to us to ensure the effective defence of our clients.

“In this sense, I would like to point out, at least from this point of view, I am also somehow amazed, there is not a single piece of evidence apart from the victim’s statement that leads to the idea that a crime of rape was committed.”

Earlier, local media reported the Tate brothers had been rushed to hospital after a medical examination.

Andrew Tate is no stranger to controversy.

The former kickboxer and social media influencer, who has gained notoriety over the years for peddling misogynistic views, was detained in Romania on Thursday 29 December on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organised crime group, prosecutors said.

Who is Tristan Tate? All we know about Andrew Tate’s brother arrested in human trafficking raid

When influencer Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania during a police raid, he was detained alongside three other people – one of them, his brother (Thomas Kingsley writes).

Tristan Tate, who is also a former kickboxer turned social media influencer, was detained in December as part of an investigation into human trafficking and rape by Romania’s anti-organised crime agency Didcot.

While the headlines around the arrest focused on the more famous Andrew Tate, his brother is less well known.

Below we look at everything we do know about him as the investigation into his alleged offences continues.

Romanian authorities seize Andrew Tate’s car collection as investigation continues

Romanian authorities have seized a collection of cars belonging to misogynistic social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan (Maya Oppenheim writes).

It comes days after the 36-year-old self-avowed “success coach” was arrested as part of a human trafficking investigation.

Mr Tate, who once appeared briefly on Big Brother, has referred to married women as “property” that their husbands own.

In footage where Mr Tate talks about feminism, the former kickboxer claims women should “shut the f*** up, have kids, sit at home, be quiet and make coffee”.

Romanian authorities seized the car collection, estimated to be worth over five million euros, as well a number of buildings including one where the brothers lived and allegedly held six young women, according to a local news report.

Tate brothers could not understand why they were in custody, says lawyer

In a video with translated subtitles posted on Andrew Tate‘s Twitter account, Eugen Vidineac, lawyer for Mr Tate and his brother Tristan, said it took the brothers “some time to understand” why they were in custody.

The brothers, who both have British citizenship, were arrested alongside two Romanians on 29 December as part of an investigation into organised crime, human trafficking and rape.

The pair intend to appeal.

Mr Vidineac earlier said there was no evidence for the allegations against Mr Tate and his co-accused.

Andrew Tate misogyny claims ‘ripped out of context’, says lawyer

More from Eugen Vidineac, the lawyer representing the Tate brothers:

Speaking about claims the men had contempt for women, Mr Vidineac said: “They say that these issues are ripped out of context, out of some interviews they have done on social media.

“But they also say, if we live our lives surrounded by over 300 people, women and men, we have a lot of girlfriends and supporters all over the world, we’ve been out in public all the time with our girlfriends and there have been no complaints from our girlfriends.

“People have come out in public and said that they’ve been with one of the Tate brothers and he’s not a violent, uneducated, abusive character as he is being portrayed at this point.”

Mr Tate has been the subject of much criticism in recent weeks, primarily for his views on women, which have been denounced as misogynistic.

In one video in which he is seen discussing feminism, Tate said women should “shut the f*** up, have kids, sit at home, be quiet and make coffee”.

Andrew Tate’s online ‘character’ can’t be used as evidence, lawyer claims

Eugen Vidineac, who represents Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, told Romanian online newspaper Gandul that the far-right influencer’s online persona could not be used against him in court.

The lawyer said he believed the character someone like Mr Tate portrays on social media could not be used as evidence in a criminal trial as it may not reflect who they are in real life.

Speaking about what role social media may play in the case, Mr Vidineac said: “In the case of the Tate brothers, I don’t know what their intent was in promoting themselves on social media, but I sit here and wonder, can that intent from the social media stand as evidence in a criminal prosecution case, with respect to a criminal character?”

Romanian anti-organised crime agency Diicot said two British citizens and two Romanians were suspected of being part of a criminal group focused on human trafficking on 29 December.

Their appeals will be heard against a judge’s decision to extend their arrest warrants from 24 hours to 30 days, Diicot added.

Andrew Tate lawyers says rape and trafficking allegations have no evidence

The lawyer representing Andrew Tate has said there is “no evidence” to support allegations of human trafficking, rape or organised crime against the 36-year-old social media influencer or his brother Tristan.

Eugen Vidineac, who represents both brothers, told Romanian online newspaper Gandul the defence had not been given the opportunity to study the prosecution file for the case.

The lawyer said several electronic devices were seized in April last year which were subject to computer searches.

He added: “I will point this out from the beginning, that even up to the present moment, the criminal investigation file has not been made available to us to ensure the effective defence of our clients.

“In this sense, I would like to point out, at least from this point of view, I am also somehow amazed, there is not a single piece of evidence apart from the victim’s statement that leads to the idea that a crime of rape was committed.”

Asked what evidence there was in support of a human trafficking offence, Mr Vidineac said: “In my view, there is no evidence there either, and I’m talking about evidence leading, by itself or directly, to the formation of an opinion of reasonable suspicion regarding the commission of offences provided for and punishable by criminal law.”

Andrew Tate account posts again

Andrew Tate’s account posted another tweet referencing the “Matrix”, after an earlier post which said it was responsible for “attacking him”.

Mr Tate has previously claimed to believe that reality is a “Matrix” – referring to the dystopian Keanu Reeves sci-film where people are led by computers to work until they die.

The latest tweet from his account, which also shared a message attributed to Mr Tate’s lawyer, read: “The Matrix does not play fair, they play to win.”

In a recent exchange with climate activist Greta Thunberg, Tate posted a bizarre video in which he accused Ms Thunberg of being a “slave of the Matrix”.

Here’s how to beat toxic men like Andrew Tate | Comment

Sufyan Ahmed’s take on the toxic culture behind the jailed influencer: News of Andrew Tate’s arrest has been met with relief by many hoping this will bring an end to his relevance. However, in my view (and experience) the damage is done. Tate’s views, amplified by social media, has already led to huge numbers of young men from my generation being manipulated, and without urgent intervention we may end up with a lost generation of young men. Let me tell you what I’ve seen.

There is no denying the immense reach Tate achieved. He was the most Googled man over the summer of 2022. Videos with his hashtag have amassed 13 billion views on TikTok. His mentoring scheme currently has 160,000 paying subscribers.

Once you delve into what Tate preaches to the masses, his social media reach is terrifying. Tate has made comments such as, “women bear some responsibility for rape”; has compared women to dogs and proudly confessed in one video with a fellow YouTuber to being an “absolute misogynist”, stating that he was in fact a “realist” and “when you’re a realist, you’re sexist”. The amplification of these views should terrify everyone.

“Based on this notification, yesterday he was taken to a specialist consultation in a hospital in the capital.”

The report added that he was later returned to the prison where he was being held.

Matt Gaetz Hatred of Kevin McCarthy Fueled by Sex Trafficking Row – Rolling Stone

Kevin McCarthy was well aware he was going to lose his bid to become Speaker of the House of Representatives on the first ballot, three people with knowledge of the situation told Rolling Stone. What he was not privately predicting was that the beatings would continue for an entire week. “He knew he was going to get fucked — he just didn’t know they were going to fuck him this many times, or this hard,” explained one congressional aide.

Among the major factors in McCarthy losing more than a dozen speakership ballots, people familiar with the matter say, was the severity of Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz’s enmity toward the Republican leader. Gaetz’s intense and personal distaste for McCarthy has been an open secret in Washington political circles for years, so much so that Gaetz and McCarthy’s colleagues would argue it isn’t even a “secret” at all.

But Gaetz’s hatred curdled into something even more powerful after it was revealed in early 2021 that the MAGA congressman was the target of a federal investigation into the sex trafficking of a minor. (No charges were filed against Gaetz, but his “wingman” Joel Greenberg was sentenced to 11 years in prison.) McCarthy, in Gaetz’s opinion, failed to mount a forceful enough defense on his behalf. According to two sources familiar with the matter, Gaetz has been furious at McCarthy for the perceived lack of support ever since — despite the fact that McCarthy did not strip him of any committee assignments during the probe.

The enmity between the two Republicans spilled into open view on the floor of the House during the 14th vote Friday night that McCarthy had bragged would finally put him over the top to secure the speaker’s gavel. Gaetz placed himself at the center of the drama. He skipped his turn in the alphabetical role call vote, setting himself up to vote at the end of the proceeding. With McCarthy needing one more yes vote, Gaetz instead voted “present” — leaving McCarthy with 50 percent of the vote, a hair short of victory. McCarthy strode up to Gaetz on the House floor, and a the foes had a heated exchange that did not change the total. McCarthy again was left hanging. (Gaetz again voted “present” along with the other Never Kevin rebels in the 15th vote that finally gave McCarthy the gavel.)

The original source of Rep. Gaetz’s acute loathing of McCarthy is less clear. Rolling Stone contacted members of Congress, sources on Capitol Hill, and activists in conservative organizations to ask what the root cause was. They all just knew Gaetz hated the House GOP leader. One Republican who knows both Gaetz and McCarthy says they even once asked the latter why Gaetz dislikes him so much. This source recalls McCarthy answering: “I don’t know.”

Gaetz’s animosity toward McCarthy was on full display throughout the week, as he stood to deliver nominating speeches on behalf of both Jim Jordan and Donald Trump. “Maybe the right person for the Speaker of the House isn’t someone who wants it so bad,” Gaetz said when nominating Jordan. “Maybe the right person for Speaker of the House isn’t someone who has sold shares of themself for more than a decade to get it.”

“We have to restore to the Speaker’s Office the actual person who ought to be in the Speaker’s Office, not the squatter who is currently there,” he later added while nominating Trump. “And if the Architect of the Capitol is listening — I sent a letter, and I would like to know what the basis is to allow someone to occupy the Speaker’s office who comes in second place ten straight times? Is there, like, some basis in law or rule or precedent for that?”

Both men nominated by Gaetz were working to whip votes for McCarthy. Jim Jordan nominated  McCarthy in a forceful floor speech. Meanwhile, Trump made public call on Truth Social for Republicans to back McCarthy. Both the former president and his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. have also made phone calls in recent days to GOP members of Congress in support of McCarthy, two knowledgeable sources say. The former president’s recent whipping for McCarthy was described by one person with direct knowledge of one of the calls as “lackadaisical.”

Asked to comment on reports that he personally despises McCarthy — and that his loathing was intensified by McCarthy’s failure to aggressively stand up for him during the sex-crimes probe — Gaetz’s office did not deny it. Instead, they pointed Rolling Stone to a TV interview on Thursday in which the congressman said he would not vote for McCarthy “under almost any circumstance,” while insisting his motivation was principled, not personal.

“Kevin McCarthy is the masthead of the lobby core,” Gaetz told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham when asked point-blank if his grudge against McCarthy was personal. “I resent the extent to which Kevin McCarthy utilizes the lobbyists and the special interests to be able to dictate how political decisions are made, how policy decisions are made, and how leadership decisions are made. Kevin McCarthy has been in the leadership for 14 years, and he has sold shares of himself to special interests, to political action committees. And so that’s why I don’t think he is an appropriate choice.”

Trending

McCarthy’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

By midday Friday, it became clear that McCarthy’s opponents with less intense feelings toward him were ready to accept his concessions, give in to the McC-mentum, and allow the House to begin its business. Fourteen of them changed their vote to McCarthy during the 12th ballot, with another, Andy Harris, relenting during the 14th. McCarthy crowed that he would have the votes to win the speakership Friday night. Gaetz seemed to acknowledge the inevitable, as well. “I think the House is in a lot better place with some of the work that’s been done to democratize power out of the speakership,” he said. “And that’s our goal.”

A ‘GRETA’ Brought Down Andrew Tate For Trafficking. It’s Not Who You Think

Andrew Tate was detained by Romanian authorities on Thursday.

As news of controversial media personality Andrew Tate’s arrest and Twitter spat with Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg made headlines, internet users were quick to point out that it was ultimately GRETA that brought the far-right celebrity to the Romanian authorities’ radar.

GRETA, which stands for the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, is a European body that monitors the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings by the Parties.

This 15-member body is currently in the spotlight for Andrew Tate’s detention, after a year old press release by the group has gone viral. Civil rights attorney and Twitter user Alejandra Caraballo posted a tweet of a screenshot of the Council of Europe website. The screenshot referred to a press release dated June 3, 2021 in which GRETA (the council, not the activist) urged Romania to ensure that human trafficking offences lead to effective sanctions.

Now, a year and half later, Romanian authorities are in the limelight for detaining four people on suspicion of human trafficking, one of which was Andrew Tate.

The irony of an organization named GRETA bringing down Andrew Tate was not lost on netizens, who responded to Caraballo’s tweet with memes and laughter. As Twitter user viralsmile remarked, “The writers really did a great job with this 2022 finale”.

Controversial internet personality Andrew Tate detained in Romania on human trafficking charges: report

Former professional kickboxer and controversial internet personality Andrew Tate was detained in Romania Thursday, along with his brother, Reuters reports.

Romanian prosecutors said in a statement obtained by CBS News that search warrants were carried out in several homes Thursday due to suspicions of “an organized criminal group” involved in “human trafficking and rape.”

The organized crime group was formed by four suspects in early 2021 with “a view to committing” human trafficking in Romania, the U.S. and U.K. in order to “obtain important financial benefits,” prosecutors said.

Six women have been found who were sexually exploited by the organized crime group, according to prosecutors.

Two British nationals and two Romanian citizens were detained, prosecutors said, and brought to law enforcement headquarters lin Bucharest. Once they were interrogated, it was decided they’d be held for 24 hours, prosecutors added. There was no word on what would happen to them after that.

Reuters said this and other photos it obtained show Andrew Tate being escorted out of law enforcement headquarters Thursday:

“The four suspects … appear to have created an organized crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialized websites for a cost,” prosecutors said in a statement to Reuters.

Tate and his brother Tristan were among the four people detained, the prosecutors told Reuters.

Lawyers for the Tate brothers confirmed to Reuters that they had been taken into custody.

The two brothers have been under criminal investigation since April, Reuters said.

Tate, who was born in the U.S. but raised in Britain,  is known for spreading hate speech, misogyny and violence. In August, he was banned from both Facebook and Instagram for violating Meta’s policies on dangerous organizations and individuals. He has also been banned from posting to YouTube.

In 2017, he was suspended from Twitter for saying women “bear responsibility” for being sexually assaulted, this as allegations against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein were pouring in. He was reinstated to Twitter last month after Elon Musk took ownership of the company.

Earlier this week, Tate got into a Twitter feud with climate activist Greta Thunberg.

In response to the report about Tate’s arrest, Thunberg tweeted Friday, “this is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes.”

Andrew Tate Detained in Romania on Human Trafficking Charges – Rolling Stone

Men’s rights internet personalities and brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were detained on Thursday by Romanian prosecutors on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organized crime group, according to Reuters.

The brothers, who run an adult entertainment camera service, will be detained for 24 hours alongside two Romanian suspects, prosecutors from the anti-organized crime unit said in a statement after raiding their properties in Bucharest, Reuters reports.

“The four suspects … appear to have created an organised crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialised websites for a cost,” prosecutors stated.

When reached for comment by Rolling Stone, a spokesperson for the Tate brothers said, “We cannot provide any details at the moment regarding alleged reports that they have been detained; however, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can.”

The Tates — Andrew especially — have grown in popularity online for espousing violent and often misogynistic views about women, sexuality, and rape culture. Andrew had a small stint as a professional kickboxer before he was invited to star on the 2016 U.K. version of Big Brother. He was eventually kicked off. While Andrew remains banned from most popular social media sites like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, his Twitter account was recently reinstated when the platform was taken over by Elon Musk. The brothers present themselves as teachers who want to open people’s eyes to the lies of the government, women, and left wing media, and have reportedly made millions through online courses on thought and cryptocurrency. Following several of his bans in August, Andrew told Rolling Stone in a statement that many of his controversial comments were made in jest and were part of a “character” he was portraying online.

“The media is spinning a false image of me, on repeat, and instagram bowing to pressure is a massive shame,” Tate said. “Somehow I am the villain, when all of my posts were bible verses and charitable donations.”  While Tate says he’s just playing a character, there are thousands of hours of content behind his beliefs. And fake or not, he has built a financial empire on some pretty harmful takes, a clear contradiction from the “bible verses and charitable donations” he seems to think his content is all about.

The villa was first raided in April 2022, after Romanian police received a report of a woman being held against her will at the home, according to the Daily Beast. At the time no arrests were made, but authorities said the investigation was ongoing; police reported finding one American woman and one Romanian woman in the villa. At the time, a spokesperson for the U.S State Department said they were “aware of reports of a U.S. citizen held against their will in Romania, ”but had no further comment.” The brothers were not arrested during this incident.

This isn’t Andrew’s first run-in with authorities. Before he moved to Romania, several other women accused him of abuse, and he implied that he was moving to Romania for its lax approach to law enforcement.

“I’m not a rapist, but I like the idea of just being able to do what I want,” he said in YouTube video that was removed when he was banned from the site. “I like being free.”

Trending

The news also comes a day after Tate made headlines for a public feud with multiple Nobel Peace Prize nominee and climate activist Greta Thunberg. Andrew tweeted a list of his luxury cars before asking Thunberg to “please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.” The climate activist responded, “Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at smalldickenergy@getalife.com.” Tate didn’t seem to take the insult well, first replying “How dare you?” before sending the activist a video response 10 hours later, where he made several jokes that didn’t land and then accused the 19-year-old of being a slave to the “matrix.”

No specific charges have been announced against the brothers.
