Tom Brady-Bill Belichick debate appears to be over for some after NFL star’s NFC Championship victory

Who was responsible for the New England Patriots’ success? Was it Tom Brady or Bill Belichick?

That was the underlying question heading into the 2020 season after Brady moved on from the Patriots in the offseason to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a 2-year deal. Brady won six Super Bowl championships in New England but when he left the debate raged with many asserting that it was Belichick’s system that made Brady what he was.

After an 11-5 record and an NFC Championship, the debate appeared to be settled for some. It was Brady all along.

The 2020 season didn’t start off great for Brady. The Buccaneers lost 34-23 to the New Orleans Saints while the Patriots, with Cam Newton at the helm, defeated the Miami Dolphins 21-11. But everything appeared to change after the first week of the season.

TOM BRADY HAS HEARTFELT MOMENT WITH SON FOLLOWING NFC CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY

Tampa Bay would win seven of their next eight games while the Patriots would win only three of their next eight. The Buccaneers stayed in contention for the NFC South division title, only losing it by a game after getting swept by the Saints. The Patriots would lose three of their last four to end the season.

Brady would then lead Tampa Bay to three consecutive wins on the road to get to the Super Bowl and win his first NFC Championship, tying Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers’ totals.

Brady and the Buccaneers will have their hands full with the Kansas City Chiefs, but as far as the debate over who made who’s success, it appears Brady might have the upper hand.

How Tom Brady will reportedly pad his pocket with NFC title, Super Bowl LV win

There’s a lot more at stake than just reputation for Tom Brady as he prepares to take on the Green Bay Packers in Sunday’s NFC Championship game.

Brady is set to earn $1 million in incentives if he takes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all the way, earning the franchise it’s second Super Bowl win and it’s first since the 2002 season, ESPN reported, citing sources.

TOM BRADY, AARON RODGERS’ RECENT CONFERENCE TITLE GAME APPEARANCES TELL DIFFERENT STORIES

The 43-year-old quarterback, who has six rings from his time with the New England Patriots, would make $500,000 if the Bucs beat the Packers and he would earn another $500,000 if the Bucs win Super Bowl LV, ESPN reported.

Brady previously signed a two-year $50 million contract with the Bucs during the offseason after 20 years in New England. Reports at the time indicated that the Patriots weren’t willing to give Brady the money he was asking for in order to stay.

Since joining Tampa, Brady has already earned $1.25 million in incentives in the postseason alone, ESPN reported. He earned $500,000 for making it to the playoffs, $250,000 for the wild-card win over Washington and another $500,000 for advancing to the NFC Championship game after beating Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round.

Money aside, another Super Bowl victory would be record breaking for Brady. He would further his own record for most Super Bowls won by a player with seven rings which would also surpass the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Patriots with the most wins by a team at six.

Tom Brokaw announces retirement after 55 years at NBC News

Legendary NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw announced his retirement on Friday, closing the curtain on his half-century-long career chronicling some of the most tumultuous times in U.S. history.

Brokaw, 80, will hang up his mic as the only anchor to have ever led all three of NBC’s primary news shows: “Nightly News,” “TODAY” and “Meet the Press.”

“During one of the most complex and consequential eras in American history, a new generation of NBC News journalists, producers and technicians is providing America with timely, insightful and critically important information, 24/7,” Brokaw said in a statement. “I could not be more proud of them.”

While Brokaw has won numerous, prestigious journalism awards, including Peabodys, Duponts, Emmys and The Edward R. Murrow Award for Lifetime Achievement in Broadcasting, he could be best known for his work documenting the sacrifices made by Americans during World War II.

His 1998 book “The Greatest Generation” profiled many of those Americans who came of age during that difficult stretch of U.S. history.

Brokaw began his NBC career in the Los Angeles bureau, where the network now runs its West Coast broadcast hub from the Brokaw News Center.

He covered future President Ronald Reagan’s first run for public office, the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy and the 1968 presidential campaign won by Richard Nixon.

He moved to the nation’s capital in 1973 and worked as a NBC News White House correspondent during the Watergate scandal, which forced Nixon out of office in 1974.

Then in 1976, Brokaw co-hosted the “TODAY” show before becoming anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw” in 1983.

He led the team there for 22 years before stepping down in late 2004 to become a special correspondent for NBC. He also served as moderator of “Meet the Press” immediately after the untimely death of Tim Russert in 2008.

President Barack Obama awarded Brokaw the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in 2014.

Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers the center of attention ahead of NFC Championship

Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers will be the center of attention when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers square off in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.

It will only be the fourth meeting between the future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterbacks, and it will be the first time they face each other in the postseason. The Buccaneers defeated Green Bay, 38-10, in their meeting on Oct. 18 in Tampa. The other two times they met, Brady was still the quarterback for the New England Patriots.

In 2014, the Packers pulled out a 26-21 win over New England at Lambeau Field, and four years later, the Patriots rolled to a 31-17 victory in Foxborough.

“I remember when I heard the news about him coming to the NFC, I thought this was a real possibility,” Rodgers said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to play against him one more time.”

Brady and the Bucs are rolling. Tampa Bay is currently on a seven-game winning streak in road games, which is a franchise record. If the Buccaneers take down the Packers on Sunday, they will be the first team in NFL history to host a Super Bowl at their home stadium.

The last time Tampa Bay made the Super Bowl, Jon Gruden was the team’s head coach, and they were anchored by one of the best defenses in league history, featuring the likes of Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, and John Lynch.

With a victory on Sunday, Brady will join quarterbacks Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, and Craig Morton as the only QBs to lead two different franchises to a Super Bowl appearance.

“This is one of the coolest stadiums in the league to play in,” Brady said of Lambeau Field. “I know they’re excited, we’ll be excited, and it will make for a great football game.”

Green Bay, on the other hand, will play in its fifth NFC Championship Game with Rodgers under center. The last time the Packers reached the Super Bowl was back in 2010 when Green Bay ended up defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in the big game.

Everyone will be tuning in to watch two of the greatest QBs in NFL history on Sunday afternoon, and Warner, a Hall of Famer and current NFL Network analyst, believes it should be a matchup for the ages.

“When I played, I always knew who was on the other sideline,” Warner said. “I always said when I went into these matchups, at the end of the day, I know if we’re going to win this game, I’ve got to outperform that guy. I’ve got to be better than the quarterback on the other side.”

Brady and Rodgers will certainly have their eyes on each other come Sunday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
