‘Profoundly unjust:’ Gianni Infantino launches explosive tirade against Western critics on eve of World Cup

Doha, Qatar
CNN
 —

On the eve of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA President Gianni Infantino launched a tirade against Western critics of the controversial tournament in an explosive hour-long monologue.

Infantino, the boss of world soccer’s governing body, looked on glumly as he addressed hundreds of journalists in Doha, Qatar, Saturday.

“We are taught many lessons from Europeans, from the Western world,” he said, referring to criticisms of Qatar’s human rights record.

“What we Europeans have been doing for the last 3000 years, we should be apologizing for the next 3000 years before starting to give moral lessons.”

Despite the opening match kicking off on November 20, Infantino barely spoke about soccer and focused his attention on what he called the “hypocrisy” of Western criticism.

In a remarkable press conference, Infantino seemed exhausted. He has spent a lot of time defending FIFA’s decision in 2010 to award the World Cup to Qatar. A controversial decision made when he wasn’t the governing body’s president.

This tournament will be a historic event, the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East, but is also mired in controversy, with much of the build-up focusing on human rights, from the death of migrant workers and the conditions many have endured in Qatar, to LGBTQ and women’s rights.

Infantino, despite admitting things weren’t perfect, said some criticism was “profoundly unjust” and accused the West of double standards.

The Italian opened the news conference by speaking for an hour, telling journalists that he knew what it felt like to be discriminated against, saying he was bullied as a child for having red hair and freckles.

“Today I feel Qatari. Today I feel Arab. Today I feel African. Today I feel gay. Today I feel disabled. Today I feel a migrant worker,” he said, in front of a stunned audience.

“I feel this, all this, because what I’ve been seeing and what I’ve been told, since I don’t read, otherwise I would be depressed I think.

“What I’ve seen brings me back to my personal story. I am a son of migrant workers. My parents were working very very hard in difficult situations.”

Infantino said progress had been made in Qatar on a range of issues, but insisted real change took time, adding that FIFA would not leave the country after the tournament finished. He suggested that he thought some Western journalists would forget about the issues.

“We need to invest in education, to give them a better future, to give them hope. We should all educate ourselves,” he said.

“Reform and change takes time. It took hundreds of years in our countries in Europe. It takes time everywhere, the only way to get results is by engaging […] not by shouting.”

Infantino also addressed questions around the last-minute decision to ban alcohol from being sold at the eight stadiums which will host the tournament’s 64 matches. In a FIFA statement issued on Friday, the governing body said alcohol would be sold at fan zones and licensed venues.

The Muslim country is considered to be very conservative and tightly regulates alcohol sales and usage.

In September, Qatar had said it would permit ticketed fans to buy alcoholic beer at World Cup stadiums three hours before kickoff and for one hour after the final whistle, but not during the match.

“Let me first assure you that every decision that is taken in this World Cup is a joint decision between Qatar and FIFA,” he said. “Every decision is discussed, debated and taken jointly.”

“There will be […] over 200 places where you can buy alcohol in Qatar and over 10 fan zones, where over 100,000 people can simultaneously drink alcohol.

“I think personally, if for three hours a day you cannot drink a beer, you will survive.”

“Especially because actually the same rules apply in France or in Spain or in Portugal or in Scotland, where no beer is allowed in stadiums now,” he added.

“It seems to become a big thing because it’s a Muslim country, or I don’t know why.”

Infantino finished the press conference by insisting that everyone would be safe in Qatar, amid concerns from the LGBTQ community.

Homosexuality in Qatar is illegal and punishable by up to three years in prison, but the FIFA president promised that this was a tournament for everyone.

“Let me mention as well, the LGBT situation. I have been speaking about this topic with the highest leadership of the country several times, not just once. They have confirmed, and I can confirm, that everyone is welcome,” Infantino said.

“This is a clear FIFA requirement. Everyone has to be welcomed, everyone that comes to Qatar is welcome whatever religion, race, sexual orientation, belief she or he has. Everyone is welcome. This was our requirement and the Qatari state sticks to that requirement,” Infantino said.

Kanye West Instagram Tirade Is Ugly Storm of Antisemitic Filth

A week that began with Kanye West sporting the phrase White Lives Matter on a shirt and included his appearing on Tucker Carlson’s fanatically far-right show has ended with the rapper spewing antisemitic filth on Twitter. Late Saturday, after Instagram imposed restrictions on his account for previous posts that were alleged to be antisemitic, West leaned into hate, writing on a since-removed Twitter post, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death [sic] con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.” (The platform later locked his Twitter account.) The rapper’s turn from performance-art conservative to actual bigot comes after years in which he has been open about mental-health problems. But suffice it to say erupting in a steady stream of anti-Jewish bile is not a condition identified in the latest edition of the The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

Ryanair CEO launches expletive-ridden tirade against Boeing

“At the moment we think Boeing management is running around like headless chickens, not able to sell aircraft, and then even the aircraft they deliver, they’re not able to deliver them on time,” said Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, Europe’s largest discount carrier, which has ordered nearly 400 jets from Boeing since 2010.

O’Leary and Boeing had an unusually public dispute last fall about negotiations on a possible order for the next generation of the 737 Max, with Ireland-based Ryanair breaking off talks because of a pricing squabble.

The CEO’s unusually blunt comments Monday were focused on Boeing’s delayed deliveries of planes. O’Leary said Ryanair had to scale back its spring and summer schedules because planes it had expected the aircraft maker to deliver by the end of April probably won’t arrive until the end of June.

“I can understand why there may be various challenges manufacturing new aircraft, but aircraft that you built and made two years ago that all you had … to do was put petrol in them and f***ing fly them to Dublin, really I don’t understand why you’re taking two to three month delays on that,” he said on a conference call with investors about the airline’s financial results. “It is redolent of very poor management performance in Seattle.”

Boeing declined to comment on O’Leary’s remarks.

Criticizing management

O’Leary said Boeing makes great planes, but it might be time to change management.

“Either the existing management needs to up its game, or they need to change the existing management, would be our view of life,” he said. “We’re very happy to work with existing management but they need to bloody well improve on what they’ve been doing delivering to us over the last 12 months. … We’re a willing customer, but we’re struggling with slow deliveries and an inability to do a deal on new aircraft despite the number of white tails they have sitting on the f***ing ground in Seattle.”

Boeing has faced numerous problems in recent years, including the 737 Max crisis that cost it more than $20 billion. The company also was hit with an FAA-ordered halt of deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner last June due to quality control problems. And it faced delays winning approval for its next-generation widebody jet, the 777X, that forced Boeing to push back the first deliveries of the plane by two years to at least 2025.
Boeing also took substantial losses in its military and space businesses, including a recent $660 million charge on the two planes it is completing that will be used as the new Air Force Ones. It’s also combating delays in building a spacecraft to carry US astronauts to the International Space Station.

“If they get their s*** together, we’d be willing to take more aircraft for summer ’23 and summer ’24,” O’Leary said. “There’s growth there to be won.”

He also said the airline is willing to restart negotiations on an order for the new generation of the 737 Max, although he pointed out that has yet to win FAA approval, making it risky to depend upon. So Ryanair is also looking at possibly purchasing 50 jets on the second hand market instead. And he had choice words for Boeing’s sales staff.

“You wonder what the hell their sales team has done in the last two years,” O’Leary said. “Frankly most of them seem to sitting at home in their f***ing jimjams working from home instead of being out there selling planes to customers.”

O’Leary also criticized Boeing’s recently announced plan to move its corporate headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia, a suburb of Washington.

“Moving the headquarters to Virginia from Chicago, while it may be good for the defense side of the business, doesn’t fix the fundamental underlying problems on the civilian aircraft side in Seattle,” he said.

Other customer criticism

In addition to O’Leary, several other airlines have complained on recent conference calls — although in far less colorful language — about the problems they face from the 787 or 777X delays.

Domhnal Slattery, the CEO of Avolon, one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing companies, suggested earlier this month that Boeing needs a change in culture — and maybe leadership.

“I think it’s fair to say that Boeing has lost its way,” Slattery said at the Airfinance Journal conference, in comments first reported by Reuters and confirmed by Avolon. “Boeing has a storied history … They build great airplanes. But it’s said that culture eats strategy for breakfast and that is what has happened at Boeing.”

Sharon Osbourne announces new TV show after The Talk exit

Sharon Osbourne let her feelings towards CBS be known loud and clear in a foul-mouthed outburst towards the network following her exit from The Talk last year.

The outspoke presenter, 69, left the US talk show in March last year following accusations she was racist on air – a claim Mrs O vehemently denied.

And now, almost a year on, it’s clear Sharon hasn’t forgiven the network for her treatment during the incident.

When asked by a TMZ reporter whether she’d ever rejoin the show after everything that happened, she said no in no uncertain terms.

Sharon blasted: “I would never go back to that show again, ever.”

Confirming why, she said: “Because CBS sucks big time d***.”

The reporter went on to ask whether Sharon thought it was fair she was fired from the show, to which she provided a more reserved response.

She added: “Hey, listen it happened. I don’t care. I honestly don’t care. It’s not like I need it.”

And fans of the star will be pleased to know she has no plans on retiring just yet. When asked if she planned to put her feet up, she confirmed: “F*** no!”

After her on-air dispute last year, CBS confirmed the former X Factor judge’s departure in a statement as well as putting the show on a short-term hiatus.

At the time, the network said: “Sharon Osbourne has decided to leave The Talk.

“The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home.

“As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behaviour toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace.

“We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts,” it added.

“At the same time, we acknowledge the network and studio teams, as well as the showrunners, are accountable for what happened during that broadcast.

“As it was clear the co-hosts were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving race.”

Earlier this month, Sharon hinted at her comeback and revealed a new project was in the works, but didn’t give any more away.

Taking to Twitter, the Brixton born star uploaded a video clip where she could be seen with her pet dog.

She told her fans: “I’m saying Happy New Year now because I didn’t before, because I didn’t want to get on the old iPhone and talk to anyone, I’ve not felt like it.”

Sharon then announced her comeback was planned as she added: “I want to share that I have been signed to do a new TV show, it’ll be starting very soon and I couldn’t be happier.”

Connecticut father James Iannazzo accused of launching racist tirade in smoothie shop

A Connecticut father is accused of launching a racist tirade and tossing a drink at a worker in a smoothie shop on Saturday after his son reportedly suffered an allergic reaction, police said.

James Iannazzo, 48, was arrested and charged with a hate crime following the wild scene at Robeks in Fairfield shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the Fairfield Police Department.

The chaos began when Iannazzo returned home with a smoothie from the business that purportedly contained peanuts – causing the allergic reaction that sent his son to the hospital, authorities said

The irate father returned to Robeks and screamed at workers, demanding to know who made the smoothie containing the allergen, police said.

After an expletive-ridden outburst, Iannazzo allegedly tossed a beverage at an employee and commented on the immigration status of another worker, cops said.

He also allegedly tried to burst into an employees-only area, police said,

The father fled the store before police arrived. He was later arrested and admitted to officers he went back to the store after becoming upset about his son’s severe allergic reaction, according to police.

Workers told investigators that Iannazzo asked for no peanut butter in the smoothie, but did not note the request was because of an allergy.

Iannazzo was charged with intimidation based on bigotry or bias, breach of peace and criminal trespass.

Fairfield Man Arrested for Racist Smoothie Tirade, Cops Say – NBC New York

A Connecticut man in a rage over the inadvertent use of peanuts in a smoothie went on a threatening, racist tirade against a shop’s young employees, leading to his arrest, Fairfield police said.

James Iannazzo, 48, of Fairfield, faces charges of intimidation based on bias, breach of peace and criminal trespass.

According to police, Iannazzo purchased a smoothie at Robeks on Black Rock Turnpike about 1 p.m. Saturday. Roughly 30 minutes later, police say he called 911 from his home for a child having an allergic reaction. The child was taken to a local hospital.

A few minutes later, Iannazzo returned to the Robeks location and, police say, yelled at employees and demanded to know who had caused his child to have an allergic reaction by putting peanuts in the smoothie.

When employees couldn’t answer, cops say Iannazzo became irate, yelling vulgarly, throwing a drink at one employee and questioning her immigration status. Cops say he was asked to leave and refused, even attempting to open a locked “Employees Only” door to get behind the store’s counter.

He subsequently left before police arrived, but was identified and turned himself in, saying he was upset about his son’s allergic reaction. Store employees told cops that Iannazzo never mentioned an allergy, only asking that the peanut butter be left out of a drink.

A purported video of the dispute was posted to TikTok and quickly racked up more than 2 million views. In the video Iannazzo can clear be heard screaming epithets at the employees and demanding that they stop filming him.

Merrill Lynch, where Iannazzo worked as a financial advisor, said Sunday it acted quickly on learning of the incident.

“Our company does not tolerate behavior of this kind. We immediately investigated and have taken action. This individual is no longer employed at our firm,” the company said in a statement.

Forbes ranked Iannazzo as one of Connecticut’s top 25 high net worth wealth advisers last year.

Lil Nas X claims he collaborated with Lil Boosie…the rapper fires back with homophobic tirade

Lil Nas X hilariously TROLLS Boosie Badazz after the disgruntled rapper launched into homophobic tirade over him jokingly claiming they have a collaboration in the works

Lil Nas X joked on Instagram Live this Saturday that he’d been ‘working on’ a song with 38-year-old rapper Lil Boosie, aka Boosie Badazz.

After getting wind of the claim, Boosie launched into a homophobic rant against the 22-year-old hitmaker on Twitter, where he suggested the ‘world would be a better place’ if he committed suicide.

Instead of firing back at Boosie, Lil Nas X put his sense of humor to good use and penned a clever indirect response to the drama on his own Twitter account.

Stirring the pot: Lil Nas X joked on Instagram Live this Saturday that he’d been ‘working on’ a song with 38-year-old rapper Lil Boosie, aka Boosie Badazz

Lil Nas X was addressing his fans during Saturday’s Instagram Live when he started joking about having collaborated with Boosie on a forthcoming track.

‘So, I been working on this song with Lil Boosie, bro,’ the Georgia native said. ‘I got this song with Lil Boosie finna come out. Fire, I ain’t even gon’ lie, for real. Song with Boosie finna come out,’ said the star with a smirk.

This lighthearted troll clearly bothered Boosie as he took to Twitter pen his hate-filled rant in all capital letters.

‘STOP TROLLING ME F****T LOL,’ Boosie tweeted. ‘U A WHOLE B*TCH PLAYING WITH A GANGSTA SMH U CAN KEEP SUCKING D**K N GETTIN F**KED N YOUR A** N PEACE N #uhateyourself I WOULD TOO IF I WAS YOU LOL NASx IF YOU #commitsuicide YOU WOULD DO THIS WORLD A HUGE FAVOR. NOBODY WANTS U HERE.’

The controversial music maker continued, ‘#thinkaboutit NOBODY WANTS U HERE’ and ‘STOP PLAYING WITH THE STRAIGHT #F****T LOL.’

Then, in an ostensibly unrelated post, the Industry Baby writer appeared on Twitter to say, ‘i am truly saddened. i have never been so mortified in my life. i can’t believe disney channel has yet to play halloween town this entire october.’

Angered: After getting wind of the claim, Boosie launched into a homophobic rant against the 22-year-old hitmaker on Twitter , where he suggested the ‘world would be a better place’ if he committed suicide

Indirect: Instead of firing back at Boosie, Lil Nas X put his sense of humor to good use and penned a clever indirect response to the drama on his own Twitter account

Boosie’s vitriolic tweets were later removed for violating Twitter’s code of conduct.

Lil Boosie has a history of not only being generally homophobic, but also taking issue with Lil Nas X specifically.

In July Nas X tweeted that, ‘me and jack harlow have decided to perform industry baby butt naked at the vmas for charity.’

Then Boosie inserted himself by stating, ‘If I’m at the awards and he go up there naked, I’ma drag his a** offstage and beat his a**.’

Also in July, the rapper – whose real name is Torrence Ivy Hatch Jr – defended derogatory comments Da Baby made during his Rolling Loud set.

Allen West Goes on Unhinged Anti-Vaccine Tirade Amid COVID Hospitalization

Right-wing firebrand Allen West on Sunday followed up the previous day’s news that he contracted COVID-19 and was hospitalized with an off-the-rails Twitter rant against vaccination.

The former congressman, who is not vaccinated, wrote that he and his wife Angela received monoclonal antibody treatments at an emergency room in Dallas on Saturday. “The results were immediate,” he claimed before noting that his wife, who is vaccinated, was allowed to go home while he stayed at the hospital due to concerns over COVID-related pneumonia and low blood oxygen levels.

The far-right figure, who has increasingly adopted QAnon-adjacent rhetoric and recently quit his post as Texas GOP chairman, praised the “not forcing any harmful protocols on me” and for “making me grits for breakfast!!!”

And then, despite the burden placed on hospital staff by people like West who refuse to get vaccinated, he pivoted to attacking vaccines.

“I can attest that, after this experience, I am even more dedicated to fighting against vaccine mandates,” he tweeted. “Instead of enriching the pockets of Big Pharma and corrupt bureaucrats and politicians, we should be advocating the monoclonal antibody infusion therapy.” (Monoclonal antibody treatments, of course, are largely manufactured by pharmaceutical giants like Regeneron and GlaxoSmithKline.)

West’s anti-vaccine rant included fact-free claims about the shot and somehow also found a way to fearmonger about migrants: “Instead of jabbing Americans, and not illegal immigrants, with a dangerous shot which injects them with these spike proteins…guess what? I now have natural immunity and double the antibodies, and that’s science.”

The Tea Party star also took a moment to tout his Texas gubernatorial candidacy, claiming he will “vehemently crush anyone forcing vaccine mandates” including the “progressive socialist jackasses who must be saved from themselves.”

Aside from his anti-vaccine nonsense, West has previously pushed unproven, potentially dangerous COVID “treatments” popularized by anti-vaxx contrarians, like anti-parasitic drug ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial medication. Neither drug has been proven to treat the coronavirus, despite West’s assertions.

Tarek El Moussa is ‘super remorseful’ for on-set tirade against ex Christina Haack

Tarek El Moussa is sorry for lashing out at his ex-wife Christina Haack on the set of their HGTV series Flip Or Flop.

The 39-year-old reality TV star is ‘super remorseful’ for the public tongue-lashing, a source told People on Thursday.

‘They did get into a disagreement. Tarek lashed out and he’s super remorseful,’ the source said.

Feeling bad: Tarek El Moussa is ‘super remorseful’ about his on-set tirade against his ex-wife Christina Haack, a source told People on Thursday. They also clarified that the exes are ‘not friends’; seen in 2017 in NYC

The insider also clarified that, despite their history, Tarek and Christina, 38, don’t have much of a connection outside of their popular home-flipping series.

‘They’re exes who share a history and children and a workplace, but outside of coparenting, they’re not friends,’ they added.

The confrontation between the former couple was set off because Tarek was annoyed at how Christina signaled that she and the rest of the crew were ready to begin filming a scene, TMZ reported on Tuesday.

He allegedly took the credit for Christina’s success and called the mother of his children a ‘washed-up loser.’

He also reportedly shouted, ‘Look at me, look at me, look at me. It’s called winning,’ and, ‘The world knows you’re crazy!’

Moving on: The confrontation occurred after Christina signaled to her her ex-husband that she and the Flip Or Flop crew were ready to film the next scene; seen in 2019 in Newport Beach

Tarek also brought his fiancée Heather Rae Young, 33, into the argument by saying she was ‘hotter’ and ‘richer’ than his ex.

On Thursday, Christina seemed to signal that things were again running smoothly on the series when she shared a short clip of crew working.

‘Nice day on the Flip Or Flop set,’ she wrote.

They on-set confrontation with Christina occurred shortly after she went public with her romance to new boyfriend Joshua Hall and opened up about a psychedelic trip brought on by smoking toad venom.

According to a source close to him, he was primed to lose his cool because he was angry about learning of the drug trip, which occurred before Christina hooked up with her new man.

Tarek’s outburst appears to have come shortly before a break in filming, as Heather revealed on Wednesday that the couple had jetted off to St. Barts for a romantic getaway.

She shared a photo to her Instagram Stories of herself enjoying ‘Breakfast with my sweet love’ at the upscale Nikki Beach resort.

Taking a breather: Tarek jetted off to St. Barts with his fiancée Heather Rae Young following his alleged tirade; Tarek and Heather pictured Tuesday

Back to business: On Thursday, Christina seemed to signal that things were again running smoothly on the series when she shared a short clip of crew working

So far, her fiancé hasn’t shared any photos from the trip, but he did inform his fans on Tuesday that ‘3 flights later and we made it to St. Barts.’

Despite being ‘happy to be here’ with the Selling Sunset star on the Caribbean island, he admitted that he ‘[misses his] babies already.’

El Moussa shares daughter Taylor, 10, and son Brayden, five, with Christina.

The two were married in 2009 but split in 2016, with their divorce being finalized two years later.

The divorce followed a chilling incident in May 2016, when law enforcement responded to a call about a possibly suicidal male with a gun at their home.

According to Witness, Tarek had been seen leaving the house with a gun and heading down a nearby hiking trail. Christina was also seen running out of the home while looking visibly upset.

Police later intercepted Tarek, who surrendered his weapon, along with five other firearms found in the home, though he was not arrested.

Since their divorce, the former couple continue to co-host Flip Or Flop and serve as executive producers together.

Smoking toad and finding love: Earlier this month, she shared a candid Instagram post about her life-changing experience with psychedelics and finding love again with her new man Josh Hall

In a recent Instagram post, the HGTV favorite revealed that she had recently smoked psychedelic toad venom, which she said had ‘reset my brain and kicked out years of anxiety in 15 mins.’

The toxin from the ‘Bufo toad,’ commonly known as Colorado river toad or the Sonoran desert toad, secretes a powerful venom which can be harvested and smoked to achieve a high.

Users of the psychedelic compound report a ‘warm sensation, euphoria, and strong visual and auditory hallucinations,’ that are said to be similar to the effects of ayahuasca, a brew used in South American spiritual practices.

The spiritual and psychic journey was a shocking departure from the buttoned-up appearance that Christina usually curates on her social media accounts and in her Flip Or Flop appearances.

In addition to the reinvigorating experience, Christina also took some time away from her social accounts and hired a ‘spiritual coach,’ though she didn’t clarify if they were part of her toad trip.

Head over heels: ‘I felt immediately crazy protective over him and wanted to keep him for myself and get to know each other before the tornado (media attention) hit,’ Christina said of her boyfriend Joshua

In the same Instagram post, the reality star wrote of her new boyfriend: ‘When we met this past spring, the synchronicities hit us so hard and fast they were impossible to ignore.’

In contrast to her ex, Ant Anstead, who’s now dating Oscar winner Renee Zellweger, Christina seems to be craving a more down-to-earth partner after previously being married to two fellow entertainers.

‘I felt immediately crazy protective over him and wanted to keep him for myself and get to know each other before the tornado (media attention) hit,’ she continued.

Christina called it quits with Ant in September 2020 after less than two years of marriage, something she shared regretfully in a lengthy statement published to Instagram at the time. The former couple share one-year-old son Hudson.
