Aaron Taylor-Johnson ‘meets with 007 producers’ amid rumours he’s tipped to be next James Bond

The name’s Johnson… Aaron Taylor-Johnson: British actor had ‘secret audition’ to become the next James Bond last year after ‘impressing’ franchise producer Barbara Broccoli

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has met with 007 producers amid rumours he is he’s tipped to be the next James Bond.

The actor, 32, met to discuss the iconic role following Daniel Craig’s exit from the franchise after his fifth appearance as the secret agent in 2021 smash No Time To Die.

According to Puck News Aaron’s sat down with producer Barbara Broccoli and sources claim the meeting went ‘very well’ after he reportedly filmed a secret audition late last year.

The new 007? Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 32, has reportedly met with 007 producers amid rumours he is he’s tipped to be the next James Bond

However the source went on to say that nothing was officially confirmed and it’s unclear what any next steps might be.

MailOnline have contacted reps for both Aaron and Barbara for comment.

In December it was reported that Aaron had shot scenes as the secret agent, filming the memorable ‘gun barrel teaser footage’ seen in the films over the years.

A source told The Sun at the time: ‘Aaron has impressed bosses so much that he has filmed one of the franchise’s famous gun barrel teaser scenes, something all the actors do. That move takes him a step closer to signing a deal.’

They added: ‘Bosses at the brand were really impressed with his unique blend of acting intensity and his impressive back catalogue of action films.’

The publication reported a month earlier that Aaron was a hit with producers and particularly impressed producer Barbara.

‘Aaron went for a screen test to be the next Bond in September and producers and Barbara loved him. He is now one of the front-runners,’ a source told the publication at the time.

Aaron, who is married to Fifty Shades Of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson, 55, has starred in the Kick-Ass movies, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Godzilla.

It follows reports that Idris Elba walked away from ‘years of talks’ with movie bosses to become the next Bond, paving the way for a new 007.

Bookmakers William Hill subsequently placed Henry Cavill at the forefront with 5/2, Regé Jean-Page with odds of 4/1, followed by Tom Hardy and James Norton both with 6/1 and Chiwetel Ejiofor at 7/1.

Henry, 39, recently revealed he was leaving The Witcher, with Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role as Geralt of Rivia.

Daniel Craig, 54, has starred in five of the Bond films, from Casino Royale to No Time to Die.

New Macs and iPads just tipped for October launch — here’s the 6 new Apple products

We’re still waiting for the rumored Apple October product launches to happen. But if and when they do, it’s sounding like they’ll be all about new iPads and Macs.

Twitter leaker Dohyun Kim (opens in new tab) claims we’ll see new iPad and iPad Pro models, as well as new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and a refreshed Mac mini, by the end of October. This matches with other Apple rumors we’ve heard, so the tech tipster consensus seems to still be that Apple will launch new tablets and computers this month.

Update October 14: Apple executives Apple executives Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak are scheduled to speak at a Wall Street Journal event (opens in new tab)October 25, so we could get some big Apple product news that day or just before.

Firstly, there should be a standard iPad 2022, which could be the most notable update of all the new products. It has been rumored to receive a major redesign in line with the modern, flat-sided look of the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini, including a much larger display and USB-C.

But since Apple’s now thought to be only announcing this batch of products by press release instead of at an event, it would be odd to introduce such a major change without full fanfare.

iPad Pro 2022

The other tablet to look out for will be the iPad Pro 2022. This has been rumored to move from the current Apple M1 chip to a new Apple M2 chip like the MacBook Air M2 and 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 from earlier this year. Other than that, rumors of wireless charging and a new smart connector have also circulated.

Of course, the new iPads will be running the new iPadOS 16 out of the box, complete with the new Stage Manger feature for improved multitasking. Apple has reportedly been tweaking this and other features behind the scenes and we’re still awaiting the launch this month.

Moving to laptops, it’s been widely predicted that we’ll see new MacBook Pro with M2 Pro models this month. These could only differ from the existing 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro with their new chips, expected to be titled M2 Pro and M2 Max, which will build on the M2’s improved architecture with more CPU and GPU cores for pro-level performance.

Overall, the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro are among the best laptops, thanks to their already speedy performance and long battery life. And we appreciate the full suite of ports that include HDMI and an SD Card slot. So Apple doesn’t need to to reinvent the wheel here.

(Image credit: Jon Prosser & Ian Zelbo)

For desktop machines, we may also see a Mac mini 2022 with a standard M2 chip to replace the Mac mini M1 that arrived at the end of 2020. So the biggest change could simply be more power.

Leaker Jon Prosser claimed back in May that the next Mac mini might be smaller and would sport more ports. Specifically, he claimed it will feature the same magnetic charging connector that is included with the new 24-inch iMac 2021, as well as four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A ports, plus Ethernet and HDMI ports.

However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now predicts that the new Mac mini won’t get a design refresh when it eventually arrives.

macOS Ventura and iPad OS 16

Two other things that we might see as part of this announcement bundle are macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16. The latest version of the Mac and iPad operating systems were delayed from their expected September release, presumably to give Apple more time to iron out any kinks. Even if the products rumored above don’t end up appearing, Apple’s already confirmed October releases for both the new macOS and iPadOS versions.

Bottom line

We’re almost halfway through October at the time of writing, which gives Apple another two weeks to bring us the devices we’re expecting. But if you can’t wait that long to upgrade your tablet or laptop, take a look at our best iPads and best MacBooks guides to see what your current top choices are.

Meloni tipped to be prime minister as Italians vote

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com

  • Italians expected to elect right-wing alliance
  • Meloni would be country’s first woman prime minister
  • Early vote follows collapse of Draghi government

ROME, Sept 25 (Reuters) – Italians were voting on Sunday in an election that is forecast to return the country’s most right-wing government since World War Two and pave the way for Giorgia Meloni to become its first woman prime minister.

A right-wing alliance led by Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party appeared set for a clear victory when the last opinion polls were published two weeks ago.

But with a polls blackout in force in the two weeks before the election, there is still scope for a surprise.

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com

Polls opened at 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) and voting will continue until 11 p.m. (2100 GMT) when exit polls will be published.

However, the complex calculations required by a hybrid proportional/first-past-the-post electoral law mean it may be many hours before the composition of a new slimmed-down parliament is known.

“Long live democracy,” said Matteo Salvini, leader of the League party, one of Meloni’s main allies, as he voted in Milan on Sunday morning.

Meloni would be the obvious candidate for prime minister as leader of an alliance that also features former premier Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia.

Berlusconi, 85, also voted in Milan, wearing one of his typical double-breasted suits. Meloni was expected to vote in her home city of Rome later in the day.

A resident of Rome said he was hoping the right would win.

“The left, from what I hear, has no serious manifesto and the parties are on their own, whereas the right at least has a coalition,” said the voter, who gave his name as Paolo.

Turnout was around 19% at noon local time, according to provisional data, broadly in line with the 2018 national election. There had been speculation that a large number of Italians would opt not to vote after a low-key summer campaign.

Even if there is a clear cut result, the next government is unlikely to take office before late October, with the new parliament not meeting until Oct. 13.

MELONI’S RISE

Victory would cap a remarkable rise for Meloni, whose party won only 4% of the vote in the last national election in 2018.

Meloni, 45, plays down her party’s post-fascist roots and portrays it as a mainstream conservative group. She has pledged to support Western policy on Ukraine and not take undue risks with an economy hit hard by rising prices.

Italy’s first autumn national election in over a century was triggered by party infighting that brought down Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s broad national unity government in July.

Italy has a history of political instability and the next prime minister will lead the country’s 68th government since 1946 and face a host of challenges, notably rising energy costs.

The outcome of the vote will also be watched nervously in European capitals and on financial markets.

European Union leaders, keen to preserve unity after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, are concerned that Italy will be a more unpredictable partner than under former European Central Bank chief Draghi.

For markets, there are the perennial worries about Italy’s ability to manage a debt pile that amounts to around 150% of gross domestic product.

iPhone 14’s OLED displays tipped to come from rival Samsung

When it comes to the shortlist of suppliers providing Apple with displays destined for this year’s iPhone 14 series, Samsung has reportedly just found itself to be the top pick through its Display arm.

According to a report from South Korean news publication ETNews (opens in new tab), “industry insiders” are claiming that Apple has formally approached Samsung Display with an order for approximately 80 million screens, to be supplied in Q3 (July-September) of this year; ahead of the iPhone 14’s expected release this September.

Details of the order corroborate reports that this year’s crop of devices won’t play host to an iPhone 14 Mini (as has featured in the past two generations of iPhone), with only two display sizes intended to serve across four discrete models.

Based on the device lineup previously suggested by reputable leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will make use of a 6.1-inch panel, meanwhile just under half of the total order is intended to serve the larger iPhone 14 Max and top-end iPhone 14 Pro Max, both of which will feature a 6.7-inch display as Apple seeks to create it best iPhone ever in 2022.

Samsung Display will use two different manufacturing methods for the OLED displays that form this order: LTPS-TFT and LTPO-TFT, with the latter offering greater power efficiency over the former, thought to be headed to the two Pro models in the iPhone 14 family.

The standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will likely use more modest LTPS-TFT technology, which offers lower display refresh rates and a mildly lower quality of display.

Analysis: screening the competition

While 80 million units to a single supplier would mark a huge win for Samsung Display, it’s not a great sign for Apple fans hoping for more affordable iPhones this year.

The more manufacturers there are able to meet Apple’s demands and quality standards, the greater the competition, meaning lower component prices and, in turn, savings that – theoretically – can be passed onto consumers.

In the past, fellow South Korean manufacturer LG Display has often supported Samsung in providing Apple with displays for its iPhones. More recently, however, the two were joined by Chinese supplier, BOE Technology.

BOE has been making displays for Apple since the iPhone 12, although whether or not the California-based company places any orders with BOE for the iPhone 14 is still up in the air.

Apple only recently resumed iPhone 13 display production with BOE, after the Chinese company was found to have cut corners on its manufacturing processes (as reported by 9to5Mac (opens in new tab)) in order to reduce costs, without telling the iPhone maker ahead of time.

While BOE’s reinstated position as a parts supplier for the iPhone 13 doesn’t guarantee any involvement in the iPhone 14’s production, according to GSMArena (opens in new tab), Apple is re-evaluating their validity as a potential supplier this week, which could lead to greater competition for Samsung Display’s order total and, again, the potential for a more affordable iPhone.

Joe Maddon thinks Shohei Ohtani tipped pitches vs. Yankees

Angels manager Joe Maddon has some thoughts on Shohei Ohtani’s Yankees struggles.

The Angels two-way star was roughed up in the Bronx on Thursday, getting tagged for four earned runs on eight hits — three of them homers — over 3 2/3 innings in a 6-1 loss.

“They’re really good at reading pitches, they’re really good at it,” Maddon told reporters. “I’m not accusing anybody of anything except that they’re good at it. If you’re able to acquire things through natural means, I think it’s great. There are things that pitchers do that other teams can pick up on. We need to be more vigilant.”

Shohei Ohtani may have been tipping his pitches to Yankees hitters.

Ohtani didn’t seem to have many answers for his poor showing, either.

“They have a great lineup, and if I don’t make my pitches, they’re going to hit my pitches hard, and that’s what happened,” Ohtani said through an interpreter. “I’m not sure [if I was tipping]. You should ask the other team.”

It was the second time the Yankees had handed Ohtani a beatdown on the mound. In his first go-round, he was tagged for seven earned runs over just 2/3 of an inning on June 30, 2021, an outing which included giving up four walks.

Aaron Boone, Maddon’s Yankees counterpart, was at least willing to play along with the idea his team is good at picking up opposing pitchers’ indicators.

“I think we are,” Boone said. “We’re going to hopefully continue to be good at it.”

iPhone 14 Pro leaker just tipped full specs — and a price hike

September is still months away, but that hasn’t stopped rumors and leaks from gathering momentum on the iPhone 14 models. Now tipster Shadow_Leak has tweeted a full set of alleged specs for the iPhone 14 Pro along with a possible price increase.

The screen size for the iPhone 14 Pro is reportedly a 6.06-inch 120Hz OLED screen. That seems small to us, as well as display analyst Ross Young (via Notebookcheck) who says to expect a slight size increase instead.

The iPhone 14 Pro will reportedly be powered by Apple’s A16 Bionic chipset, which we’ve heard about before and seems legit. The Pro lineup has always had an edge with its cameras over the other models and this time it seems like Apple will focus more on the megapixels. The iPhone 14 Pro is said to have three cameras — leading with a massive 48MP main camera that’s up from 12MP on the iPhone 13 Pro, and this would be paired with another two 12MP lenses.

We’ve written before why a 48MP sensor for the iPhone 14 Pro could be a big deal, and there’s two primary benefits. First, Apple could squeeze more details out of shots due to a process called pixel binning. Second, this sensor could enable 8K video recording, which would be a first for iPhones.

The leak also mentions the Pro will come equipped with 6GB of RAM, not 8GB like early rumors had first mentioned. In addition, the storage will reportedly start at 128GB and go up to 1TB. A design detail is also mentioned — it looks like the traditional notch will be replaced by pill shaped notch on the top with the screen almost wrapping around it.

Other rumored iPhone 14 Pro vs iPhone 14 differences include a telephoto lens for the Pro models once more along with a 120Hz ProMotion display. We could also see the inclusion of USB-C charging on the iPhone 14 Pro models in order to accommodate faster transfer speeds.

So how much will these premium specs cost you? Earlier touted to be priced at $999 like the iPhone 13 Pro, recent iPhone 14 price rumors have mentioned the 14 Pro will be priced at $1,099. And Shadow_Leak corroborates previous rumors of an imminent price hike by $100.

This time it looks like the iPhone 14 lineup is up for a major overhaul. The iPhone mini might be dead because of sales for smaller phones slowing down, and replaced with a new iPhone 14 Max model.

There’s a lot of speculation flying around right now, so be sure to check out our iPhone 14 hub for all the latest leaks and rumors.

PlayStation tipped for busy week of announcements

PlayStation [5,127 articles]” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/playstation/”>PlayStation has been tipped for a busy week of announcements, according to journalists covering the games industry.

Prominent reporter Greg Miller of Kinda Funny announced on Sunday that he would be delaying this week’s edition of his popular PlayStation podcast PS I Love You XOXO due to “three rumours I’ve heard” about impending announcements.

“Man, looking like it might be a VERY interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumors I’ve heard is true,” he wrote. “As such, we’re gonna delay recording PS I Love You XOXO until Thursday.”

Miller’s post follows a Bloomberg report claiming that Sony could announce its Game Pass rival codenamed ‘Spartacus’ this week. VGC’s own sources corroborated this story and said that news was expected early this week.

It’s claimed the new subscription service will combine two of Sony Interactive Entertainment [2,080 articles]” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/sony/”>Sony’s existing offerings, PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus, and phase out the branding of the latter.

The new service is expected to launch for PlayStation 4 [4,555 articles]” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/playstation/ps4/”>PS4 and PS5 this spring and to be structured across three payment tiers, offering benefits such as free monthly games, extended demos and a library of classic PlayStation games.

VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb claimed last month that the service’s highest tier will cost $16 per month.

“Right now they are called ‘essential’, ‘extra’ and ‘premium’,” Grubb said on his Giant Bomb show. “The pricing, again could be a placeholder, but the pricing is $10 a month for essential, $13 a month for extra and $16 a month for premium.”

Grubb suggested the premium tier could include free trials of all PlayStation first-party titles.

“For premium, $16 a month… do you get full games? Not really… it’s like Electronic Arts [880 articles]” href=”https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/electronic-arts/”>EA Play. You get full game trials. I don’t know if that’s for every single game that comes out, but it seems like that.” he said.

“You also get classic games and streaming. None of the other tiers will have cloud streaming.”
