Vikings vs. Steelers score: Live updates, results, game stats, highlights for ‘Thursday Night Football’

Led by Dalvin Cook, the Vikings dominated the first half of Thursday night’s game against the visiting Steelers. Cook scored two first-half touchdowns as Minnesota took a 23-0 lead into intermission.

Both teams missed field goals after moving the ball on their opening drives. But the Vikings cashed in on their next three drives that included touchdowns by Cook and receiver Justin Jefferson. Jefferson’s 14-yard touchdown catch opened the scoring. Cook’s 29-yard touchdown run stretched the Vikings’ lead to 16-0 with less than 10 minutes left in the first half. Cook, who is playing despite having dislocated his left shoulder 11 days ago, increased Minnesota’s lead to 23-0 on his 7-yard touchdown run with 2:20 left until halftime. Cook gashed the Steelers to the tune of 153 yards on just 14 carries during the game’s first 30 minutes. Cook accounted for more than half of Minnesota’s 300 total yards during the first half.

Cook’s monster night has been complemented by the Vikings’ extremely aggressive defense, led by hard-hitting safety Harrison Smith. Minnesota’s defense bewildered a Pittsburgh offense that gained just 66 yards on 26 plays during the first half. The Vikings’ defense recorded four sacks of Ben Roethlisberger while holding Najee Harris to just 17 yards on seven carries.

Jussie Smollett trial: Jurors set to begin second day of deliberations Thursday

The jury of six men and six women deliberated for more than two hours to end court proceedings Wednesday and are due back in at 9:15 a.m. CT.

Evidence being considered includes testimony from Smollett as well as two acquaintances he knew from the set of the television show “Empire,” who stated in court last week that Smollett had recruited them to participate in the scheme.

The trial stems from Smollett’s alleged actions near downtown Chicago in January 2019, when he told authorities two men assaulted him and wrapped a noose around his neck. Smollett, who is Black and gay, said he was subject to racist and homophobic slurs during the attack, including hearing, “This is MAGA country.”

Smollett took the stand Monday and maintained his innocence in the ordeal, denying he planned the attack with the help of Bola and Ola Osundairo. He has pleaded not guilty to six felony counts of disorderly conduct on suspicion of making false reports to police.
Defense attorney Nenye Uche argued during closing arguments Wednesday that the Osundairo brothers were lying in court about Smollett and were only interested in their own fame and attention.

“They’re criminals. They’re the worst type of criminals,” Uche told jurors.

Yet prosecutors say that during the investigation, it became apparent to authorities that the reported hate crime was actually a hoax. During Wednesday’s closing arguments, special prosecutor Dan Webb accused Smollett of lying in court and claimed he lacked credibility throughout the case.

“You bring into the jury box your common sense and intelligence,” Webb began. “Beyond dispute, Mr. Smollett did exactly what we charged him with.”

Multiple pieces of evidence validate their case, prosecution says

Webb laid out in his closing statement six key pieces of evidence to demonstrate how Smollett allegedly carried out the hoax.

The first was withholding cell phone, medical, and DNA evidence from police. “Heavily redacted” cell phone records were produced for jurors, showing no phone calls to Bola Osundairo, though Webb pointed out in the four to five days prior to the alleged attack there were five phone calls, 40 text messages, and nine Instagram Direct Messages.

“Mr. Smollett didn’t want the crime solved,” Webb told jurors. “He wanted the media exposure but he didn’t want the brothers apprehended.”

Second, Webb accused Smollett of misleading police on the race of the attackers, saying “he wants police to be looking for someone White.” The Osundairo brothers are Black. Smollett said during testimony that he was never sure the perpetrators were White but “assumed” and that he was “certain” he was saying pale-skinned from the beginning.

The third piece of evidence Webb pointed to was “tampering with the rope” that was seen around Smollett’s neck the early morning of the alleged attack, first on surveillance camera when the actor initially walks back into his apartment and second on body camera when police arrived.

It was initially “exactly the way Ola told you (jurors) he left it,” but then, Webb said, Smollett “monkeyed around” with the rope, to groans from the Smollett family as nearly all of them shook their heads.

Smollett had testified he took the rope and sweater off at one point, but then put it back on for police to see when they arrived.

The fourth piece Webb emphasized was the Osundairo brothers could not have attacked Smollett without advance knowledge. He also criticized Smollett’s statements that he went to a store to get food at “2 o’clock in the morning in the middle of the polar vortex in this comfortable condo.”

The final pieces of the prosecution’s argument included medical evidence of no serious injuries, a February 2019 police interview and a text to Bola Osundairo.

Webb told jurors Smollett wanted the brothers to know he was going to keep his mouth shut, in hopes they would keep their mouths shut too, and no one would find out.

“He was hoping the Osundairo brothers would not cooperate with the police,” Webb said. “He got exposed, and now we’re in a trial. That’s what happened.”

Defense says prosecutors failed to make their case

Uche, the defense attorney, told the jury multiple times not to believe most of the testimony given by either Osundairo brother, including their perceived reason for Smollett writing one of them a check for $3,500, something he called a “fundamental part of the prosecution’s case.” Prosecutors have argued throughout the trial that the check was given as payment for staging the fake attack.

Referencing testimony given by Smollett’s publicist Pamela Sharp earlier in the trial, and the $3,500 Smollett had paid her, Uche said it was normal for celebrities to pay large sums of money for services.

“So is Pam Sharp also planning a hoax with Mr. Smollett? Ridiculous!” Uche told the jury.

The attorney said detectives assigned to the case failed to perform a complete and thorough investigation, and that Smollett was telling the truth about going out to get food.

Uche described Smollett as someone who grew to appreciate the city of Chicago and not someone who would perpetrate the crime he is accused of committing.

“To go into Obama’s city to pretend there are Trump supporters running around with MAGA hats? Give me a break,” Uche said.

Saying he needed the jury to be his “Constitutional warriors,” Uche urged them not to try and serve as investigators when they deliberate but to simply ask themselves if the prosecution had met its burden of proof. He told them not to act like “Sherlock Holmes” when they reach their verdict.

Calling much of the evidence presented against Smollett during the trial “nonsense,” Uche told the jury “You cannot convict a person regardless of how you feel, especially an innocent man, without evidence.”

CNN’s Omar Jimenez, Bill Kirkos and Ashley Killough reported from Chicago, Travis Caldwell wrote from Atlanta. Eric Levenson and Jason Hanna contributed to this report.

Thursday Night Football: Taysom Hill picked four times as Cowboys roll 27-17

Getty Images

Despite being down six coaches, including head coach Mike McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys picked up a 27-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night.

Dak Prescott threw for 235 yards with a touchdown and an interception, Tony Pollard added a touchdown on the ground, and the Dallas defense intercepted Taysom Hill four times in his first start at quarterback for New Orleans this season.

With Dan Quinn serving as acting head coach with McCarthy and five other coaches sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols, the Cowboys defense did a great job of containing everything the Saints threw at them. The only thing that had any significant success for the New Orleans offense was Hill running the ball.

Hill was intercepted on three consecutive drives for the Saints in the fourth quarter with defensive tackle Carlos Watkins returning the final pick for a 29-yard clinching touchdown with just under three minutes left to play. Hill did injure his throwing hand colliding with a Dallas defender on a throw in the first half but was able to play through it.

Prescott connected with Michael Gallup on a 1-yard touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the opening quarter to give Dallas a 7-0 lead.

The Saints immediately answered with Hill finding Lil’Jordan Humphrey for 24-yard score to even the game at 7-7.

Greg Zuerlein converted field goal attempts from 55 and 34 yards to give Dallas a 13-7 advantage at halftime.

After Brett Maher‘s 42-yard field goal closed the gap to 13-10 midway through the third quarter, the Cowboys took control. Pollard sprung free for a 58-yard touchdown as he out-ran Saints safety Marcus Williams up the left sideline. While the Cowboys offense was unable to add to the total, the defense started taking the ball away from Hill.

Hill had already been intercepted by Jayron Kearse in the second quarter before getting picked on three straight fourth quarter drives. Damontae Kazee, Trevon Diggs and Watkins all grabbed passes from Hill to thwart any chances of a New Orleans rally. The interception by Diggs was his ninth of the season for Dallas.

Deonte Harris sliced through the Cowboys defense for a 70-yard touchdown on a pass from Hill to cut into the deficit with 2:32 left to play but the Saints wouldn’t get a chance to get any closer.

Hill finished the game 19 of 41 for 264 yards with two touchdowns and the four interceptions. He also rushed for 101 yards on 11 carries for the Saints.

Saints vs. Cowboys score: Live updates, highlights, game stats, TV, live stream for ‘Thursday Night Football’

Things didn’t start out on an ideal note for either offense, with the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints both stumbling out of the gate due to a mix of good defense and poor execution. It was Dak Prescott and Co. who drew first blood, though, on a drive in the first quarter that looked a lot like the usually prolific group the NFL has become accustomed to seeing from Dallas — big plays coming from both Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb (who both returned in Week 13) and capped off by a twisting touchdown catch by Michael Gallup.

Not to be outdone, Taysom Hill went back to work with the goal of making a case for himself as permanent starter for the Saints, and he got help from wideout Lil’Jordan Humphrey on a 24-yard touchdown to open the second quarter. But just when you thought it would become a barnburner, things cooled down offensively once again, and the Cowboys are currently nursing a six-point lead the Saints hope they can prevent from becoming anything more — especially considering Dallas will have the first offensive possession of the second half.

Hill and the Saints threatened to hit pay dirt for the second time in the first half but rookie sensation Micah Parsons and the Cowboys’ defense would have none of it. Parsons dropped back in coverage on second-and-10 from Dallas’ 26-yard line to deliver a pass break up that nearly landed harmlessly onto the turf, if not for safety Jayron Kearse diving while simultaneously dragging both feet to secure an eye-popping interception at Dallas’ 5-yard line, grabbing a takeaway that served as a gut punch to Hill.

All the Saints want to do is keep it close enough to strike late, but the Cowboys are looking to make a statement.

Tune into the live blog below as the final two quarters unfold in this critical NFC matchup!

Thanksgiving Thursday top plays: Bills smash Saints, Raiders top Cowboys, Bears edge Lions

No league does Thanksgiving like the NFL!

In the first game of the day, the Chicago Bears kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to upend the Detroit Lions. And in game No. 2, the Las Vegas Raiders won an overtime thriller against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys in Dallas.

In Thursday’s finale, the Buffalo Bills dominated the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome.

Here are the top plays from Thursday’s matchups.

Buffalo Bills 31, New Orleans Saints 6

Bills eating early

Josh Allen hit Dawson Knox to start the scoring in the third Thanksgiving game.

Denied

In the second quarter, Buffalo’s defense continued to do what it does best:

Snatched!

After getting off to a hot start, misfortune struck the Bills when Allen was picked off by the Saints’ defense.

Then, in the final seconds of the first half, Allen’s touchdown pass to Knox was nullified by an ineligible downfield pass penalty.

On the following play, Allen was picked off once again, as he attempted to connect with Emmanuel Sanders.

Headed into the break, the Bills led 10-0.

How ’bout that route!

Stefon Diggs got in on the action in the third frame, extending the Bills’ lead to 17-0 with this snag.

Double trouble

Knox reeled in his second TD pass of the night, this time on a 24-yard toss from Allen, as Buffalo jumped out to a 24-0 lead –– and the blowout was on.

Marching in

The Saints finally got on the board in the fourth when Trevor Siemian found a waiting Nick Vannett fox six.

When it rains, it pours

The Bills punched in their fourth TD of the night when Matt Breida broke out for 23 yards on this run, sealing the deal for Buffalo in the process.

Las Vegas Raiders 36, Dallas Cowboys 33 (OT)

Ready to feast

The Raiders were first to strike, as DeSean Jackson got things going with this monster 56-yard touchdown.

On that TD, Derek Carr became the first QB in Raiders’ history to pass for 30,000 career yards. What’s more, it was the 34th career touchdown of 50-plus yards for Jackson, good for the second-most all-time in NFL history behind only Jerry Rice.

Recalculating

No CeeDee Lamb or Amari Cooper? No problem.

Prescott found tight end Sean McKeon for six to keep Dallas within arm’s reach.

What could have been

On the ensuing drive, the Raiders were this close to a big-time turnover. Initially, it looked like the Cowboys recovered the fumble, but it was ruled an incomplete pass after review.

The effort here from Dallas was A+, though.

Untouched

Raiders star back Josh Jacobs ran right past the Cowboys’ defense on his way to the end zone to make it a eight-point game headed into the second frame.

Zeke!

You know Ezekiel Elliott had to eat on Thanksgiving:

At the half, Las Vegas led 17-13.

Reinforcements

Backup QB Marcus Mariota checked in for the Raiders midway through the third, capping off a 75-yard drive with his first TD of the season.

Keeping it 100

The Cowboys got a scoring boost when Tony Pollard returned the Raiders’ kickoff 100 yards to the house!

It is the third-longest TD in Thanksgiving history and was the first kickoff return TD allowed by Las Vegas since 2015.

Right on the money

Prescott launched a 41-yard bomb to Michael Gallup to move the sticks and the ‘Boys into enemy territory.

Dallas wasn’t able to capitalize on the big gain, however, and settled for a field goal to make it a five-point game early in the fourth.

Wide open

The Raiders saw a spark when Hunter Renfrow picked up this huge gain to move Las Vegas down the field.

Tie game

After trading field goals, the Raiders led 30-22 midway through the final frame, but the Cowboys weren’t going away quietly.

With 2:54 to spare, Dalton Schultz reeled in this pass, good for a 32-yard gain and a TD. After a successful two-point conversion, things were knotted up at 30.

It’s good!

On the Raiders’ next drive, Daniel Carlson nailed a 56-yarder to take a three-point lead in the final minutes of Thursday’s matchup.

Not so fast

The Cowboys capped off a 10-play, 48-yard drive with a field goal of their own to knot things up once again and send things into overtime.

OT

In overtime, the Raiders knocked it another field goal to capture a 36-33 win.

Chicago Bears 16, Detroit Lions 14

Is that legal?

The game began with a confusing sequence before a play was even called. After Detroit deferred the opening coin flip, Chicago tried deferring back to the original deferrer.

A unique coin-flip sequence took place between Chicago and Detroit where the Lions won the toss and deferred to the Bears, who tried deferring back.

You look familiar

The Lions scored first after coming up with a stop on defense. Jared Goff dropped back and found old Los Angeles Rams teammate Josh Reynolds for a 39-yard score.

To the moon!

Darnell Mooney = deep threat.

He got behind the secondary to pull in this doozy of a deep catch.

The moonshot set up this dime to Jimmy Graham. It put Chi-Town up 10-7, and the Bears added a field goal to take a 13-7 advantage into the halftime break.

Keep matriculating

Don’t count Detroit out. In seven plays, Goff & Co. went 79 yards to pay dirt late in the third.

T.J. Hockenson reeled in the go-ahead TD reception, which helped put the Lions up 14-13.

Beary Merry Thanksgiving

Andy Dalton is going to be eating good tonight.

On the final drive of the game, Chicago sustained a whopping 18-play drive to run out the clock and put Cairo Santos in perfect position to knock home a game-winning 28-yard field goal.

This Bears team earned its turkey after collecting the first win of Thanksgiving Thursday.

The Chicago Bears won 16-14 as Andy Dalton led the offense on an 18-play, game-winning drive.

Sources — Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb out Thursday after concussion

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys will be without their top two receivers in Thursday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders with CeeDee Lamb unavailable due to a concussion suffered Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to multiple sources.

Coach Mike McCarthy expressed optimism earlier this week that Lamb would play against the Raiders before the receiver went through a limited part of Wednesday’s practice. He met with team doctors and an independent neurologist after the workout, and sources said he cleared the protocol. However, Lamb could be susceptible to a second concussion in a short amount of time, which could have knocked him out multiple weeks.

The Cowboys already knew they would be without Amari Cooper, who is on the reserve/COVID-19 list, for a second straight game.

Lamb, who leads the Cowboys in receptions (50), yards (740) and receiving touchdowns (6), was able to go through meetings Monday and picked up his physical activity Tuesday and Wednesday. Quarterback Dak Prescott said Lamb was “great” Wednesday. After going through sessions with Lamb on Tuesday and Wednesday, Prescott did not think there would be any limitations going into the game.

The Cowboys’ top receivers going into the game will be Michael Gallup, Cedrick Wilson, Noah Brown and Malik Turner.

The Cowboys have erred on the side of caution with their players this season regarding injuries. Left tackle Tyron Smith could have played last week against the Chiefs with an ankle injury, but the team opted to give him more rest with a quick turnaround to the Raiders game. He will start today. Prescott could have played on Halloween against the Minnesota Vikings despite a calf injury, but he was held out an extra week to avoid a potential long-term issue.

The Cowboys will also be without offensive line coach Joe Philbin, who is in the COVID protocol, according to sources. Assistant line coach Jeff Blasko will take over his duties. Philbin is the third position coach to miss time because of COVID, joining defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who missed a preseason game, and running backs coach Skip Peete, who missed the Nov. 7 meeting against the Denver Broncos.

Two of the Cowboys’ three strength and conditioning coaches are also in the COVID protocol. Cedric Smith was placed on the list earlier in the week, and Kendall Smith was added to the list Thursday. No other players appear to be affected.

Lamb being ruled out was first reported by Fox Sports.

Afterlife’ Calls Up $4.5M On Thursday Night – Deadline

Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife is off to a promising start at the pre-Thanksgiving box office with $4.5M, ahead of Sony’s 2016 all-femme reboot which posted a Friday of $3.5M. While Sony was projecting $27M-$28M, and the industry higher $30M-$35M, Thursday night’s ticket sales (which started at 4PM at 3,450 locations) puts the Jason Reitman-directed feature in a position to potentially excel both those projections. Any propelling here at the box office is off pure word of mouth. The sequel is booked at 4,300 theaters.

The previous Paul Feig version of Ghostbusters went on to earn a $17.1M Friday, including previews, a $46M domestic opening and finaled at 2.8x multiple off a B+ CinemaScore with $128.3M. That audience score was down from the 1989 Ivan Reitman-directed sequel Ghostbusters 2 which had an A-. Ghostbusters: Afterlife will have all the Imax and PLF theaters this weekend at its service.

In regards to promotion, social analytics corp RelishMix reports that Ghostbusters: Afterlife dropped its first trailer on Dec. 9, 2019 and began to build momentum to the July 2020 date only to hit the Covid pause button. For the next full year until this past April, the studio dropped weekly clips into the movie’s Facebook pages as the industry re-set. Afterlife, has 105 videos for 7.6M predominately organic views “which is strong” says RelishMix. On YouTube, 11 videos reposted with a viral rate of 41:1 have amassed 94.3M views “with an exceptional load of review spots.” Sony’s 40.9M social media universe is cross promoted with the movie at 3.2M fans and Playstation at 104.2 fans which are all rolled into the sequel’s total social media universe of 275.6M.

Conversation for Ghostbusters: Afterlife leans positive “with enthusiasm for new cast members Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd — and joyous references of the original from 1984 with the return of Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts,” says RelishMix. “The second redo is intensely nostalgic for fans and their memories of New York in the 1980s and feeling that Ghostbusters are here to save the day. Wolfhard fans are pointing out the obvious connection when the cast of Stranger Things dressed up as Ghostbusters in an episode. Gozer the Gozerian and the Stay Puff man along with chatter about the video game also leads to cross promotions which are seen within the PlayStation universe. Skeptics touch on the first reboot from 2016 and now, with a kids driven episode and how that will play.”

The pic’s social media stars include Dan Aykroyd with 1.8M fans, McKenna Grace at 1.6M. and Wolfhard with 20.9M on Instagram. Jason Reitman counts over 228K between his Instagram and Twitter handle.

Grace with the Ghostbusters:

Also opening today is Warner Bros. Richard Williams biopic King Richard about tennis stars’ Venus and Serena Williams’ father, in 3,250 theaters and on HBO Max. The pic is hoping to lob a $10M start.

Disney

Disney’s Eternals ended its second week with an estimated $33.7M in first place in 4,090 theaters, after a $1.3M Thursday, -19% from Wednesday, putting the MCU title at $124.9M. The movie is expected to ease 50% in weekend 3 with around $13M for a No. 2 slot, that is unless King Richard greatly overperforms.

Paramount’s theatrical release of Clifford the Big Red Dogwhich is also available in homes on Paramount+, saw a $655K Thursday at 3,700 sites, -8% from Wednesday and a running total of $25.4M. Clifford looks to be at least 40% from its three-day of $16.6M with just under $10M. Clifford‘s last seven days at the B.O. came in at $19.8M.

In fourth is UAR/MGM’s No Time to Diewhich is also in homes on PVOD, which earned $385K yesterday at 2,867, -2%, for a $6.1M sixth week, and a running total in the U.S. and Canada of $152M.

Pelosi Predicts Thursday Vote on Biden’s Ambitious Social Policy Bill

House Republicans railed against the legislation as government overreach that would exacerbate inflation and rising costs. Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the minority leader, suggested that fears about backlash over the bill had prompted the latest round of Democratic retirements.

“They know this reconciliation bill will be the end of their Democrat majority, and for many, their congressional careers,” Mr. McCarthy said.

If the bill clears the House, it faces a difficult road in the Senate, where Republicans will have a clear shot to offer politically difficult amendments, any one of which could unravel the delicate Democratic coalition behind it. Two Democratic centrists, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, have not committed to supporting it, and a single defection would bring the measure down in the evenly divided chamber.

Some significant provisions remain in play, including a measure to grant work permits and legal protection to many undocumented immigrants; funding for four weeks of paid family and medical leave; and a generous increase in the federal tax deduction for state and local taxes paid, from $10,000 a year to $80,000.

Liberals like Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent who is the chairman of the Budget Committee, and at least one centrist Democrat, Representative Jared Golden, Democrat of Maine, have raised strong objections to that tax measure, which would amount to a major tax cut for wealthy homeowners who itemize their deductions. Mr. Sanders and other senators are discussing limiting who can benefit from the increased deduction based on income.

Having capped the deduction in their 2017 tax law, Republicans have also singled out the provision in their attacks on the legislation. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader, scoffed, “I’m almost impressed our colleagues have found a way to be this out of touch.”

But Democrats from high-tax states like New Jersey and New York have demanded the provision as the price for their vote.

2. Macy’s, Kohl’s shares jump on strong quarterly results

Macy’s shares surged more than 10% in premarket trading after the department store chain on Thursday blew away estimates for fiscal third-quarter earnings. Revenue also topped what analysts had forecast. Macy’s raised its full-year outlook ahead of the holidays. Macy’s stock has rallied more than 174% year to date to over $30 per share. However, that’s nowhere near its all-time high of nearly $73 per share in July 2015.

Shares of Kohl’s, up nearly 40% already in 2021, were indicated to add 9% before they open for trading on Wall Street. The department store chain Thursday also reported much better-than-expected fiscal third-quarter earnings. Revenue also beat estimates. Kohl’s raised its full-year forecast. The stock saw a sharp decline from loftier levels in 2018 into the pandemic before recovering.

3. Nvidia, Cisco shares go in opposite directions after earnings

Shares of Nvidia soared 8% in the premarket, a gain that would move the tech giant closer to an $800 billion stock market value. After the bell on Wednesday, the company reported a 60% year-over-year increase in adjusted quarterly earnings per share and a 50% year-over-year rise in revenue. Both measures exceeded expectations. Shares of Nvidia, as of Wednesday’s close, have soared 124% in 2021.

Dow stock Cisco Systems, up nearly 27% in 2021 as of Wednesday’s close, fell more than 6% in the premarket, the morning after the computer networking firm missed on quarterly revenue and issued weaker-than-expected forward guidance. Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins blamed supply constraints. The company did beat estimates for earnings per share for the three months ended on Oct. 30.

4. AstraZeneca says Covid antibody drug over 80% effective

AstraZeneca’s antibody drug has been shown to be highly effective at preventing Covid in people who may not respond well to vaccines, according to new clinical trial results. Patients given a single injection of the treatment were 83% less likely to develop symptomatic cases of the coronavirus than participants who were given a placebo. More than three-quarters of participants in the trial had underlying conditions that put them at high risk of contracting severe Covid.

5. Deere workers approve contract offer, will end strike

Deere & Co. workers approved a new contract late Wednesday, delivering 10% raises immediately and ending a monthlong strike for more than 10,000 employees. The United Auto Workers union said 61% of its members approved the latest deal with the tractor maker, even though the new offer was strikingly similar to one that a majority of workers rejected two weeks ago. Shares of Deere rose nearly 2% in Thursday’s premarket. The stock has gained around 30% in 2021.
