Vanillaware fantasy game teased in 2019 at end of development, George Kamitani says

Back in March 2019, publisher ATLUS [1,892 articles]” href=”https://www.gematsu.com/companies/atlus”>ATLUS and developer Vanillaware [174 articles]” href=”https://www.gematsu.com/companies/vanillaware”>Vanillaware released 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim [52 articles]” href=”https://www.gematsu.com/games/13-sentinels-aegis-rim”>13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Prologue, a paid trial of the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim full game experience. The “Extras” section of the in-game menu did include one notable bonus though—a teaser trailer for Vanillaware’s next all-new title.

Now, speaking with Nintenderos about the upcoming western release of GrimGrimoire OnceMore [14 articles]” href=”https://www.gematsu.com/games/grimgrimoire-oncemore”>GrimGrimoire OnceMore, Vanillaware co-founder George Kamitani says that the long-in-development title is both at the end of development and set to be one of Vanillaware’s biggest games yet.

“In March 2019, for reasons I won’t get into, we released only the prologue of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, but it did include a video of our next title in it,” Kamitani said. “And now, it’s finally finished. While I’m not the director of that title, it’s one of Vanillaware’s biggest productions, so please look forward to it.”

Kamitani continued, “Lastly, the title I’m working on right now won’t be finished for several years, but once that big title I’m telling you about is finished, I should get some development staff, so development of my project will finally move into full swing.”

Platforms and a release window for the new title have yet to be announced. The only confirmed detail is that it will be published by ATLUS.

Mass Effect 5 Teased With a Mysterious Piece of Concept Art on N7 Day

For N7 Day, BioWare has teased the next Mass Effect game with a piece of concept art that appears to be of a mass relay being built or rebuilt.

A video of the concept art that slightly moves was released on Twitter alongside a short message from BioWare. If you really want to take a closer look, you can also download it in HD.

“Happy #N7Day from across the stars! 💫 We found this interesting footage you may want to 🔍 a bit more closely.”

Mike Gamble, the project director of the next Mass Effect game, also shared a few words on the future of the series.

“In the nearly 15 years since the release of the first Mass Effect, the biggest reason we still love working on it is the warmth, dedication, and passion of this community,” Gamble wrote. “There are some of you who have been with us through everything. We’ve grown together, sacrificed Ashley together, (Editor’s Note: Or Kaidan, Mike! We all make different choices.) faced difficulties together…and laughed until our Faces Were Tired…together! And for those of you who are new to Mass Effect (thanks, Legendary Edition!), welcome! I can promise that many years of fun, adventures, and characters you’ll fall in love with are still ahead.

“Regardless of when you joined us, through four games and more expansions, I can say with certainty that we’re in this because of you, and every N7 Day is a wonderful reminder of that. As we look forward, each week is a fun and exciting challenge for the team. We love bringing this universe to life, and although there’s much more we want to share with you, that’ll have to be for another time.

“For now, there is something we want you to have a look at. We’ve intercepted some strange footage from one of the monitoring stations in known space. It could be nothing, but…” Following the message, the above image was revealed.

Spoilers ahead for the ending of Mass Effect 3.

This image very well may be an indication that the Destroy ending from Mass Effect 3 will be the canon ending going forward. In that ending, Shepard was able to destroy the Reaper threat, but in doing so all the mass relays – the piece of Reaper tech that allowed for easy travel around space – were destroyed.

The image could hint that they are being rebuilt with new, current tech as the Reapers would be gone under the Destroy ending. The first teaser for this new Mass Effect game did appear to include Liara, so it would make sense for this to be a continuation of such of this story if not a direct sequel.

Another possibility is humans or another species have discovered how to create mass relays of their own. Really, anything is possible!

There is text accompanying the image as well, and it says, “Vacuum-doc Relay Construction Record / Monitoring Station Operated by Green Dagger Ltd. Property of Deepspace Dhow SAV / Ship Captain: Sub-Navarch Soa’Rhal Zhilian-Jones.”

If we try to break down the text, we come to learn that this monitoring station is operated by Green Dagger Ltd., which is a company in the Mass Effect universe we haven’t met yet. We also aren’t familiar with the name of the ship captain.

For more on Mass Effect, check out the poster that was revealed for last year’s N7 Day and the announcement of the new game from The Game Awards 2020.

Electrified Mercedes-AMG C63 E Performance Teased Prior To Sept 21 Debut

Mercedes-AMG finally announced the debut of the new C63 that will arrive on September 21. The M3 rival swaps the V8 of the previews generation for a more powerful plug-in hybrid setup and gets the E Performance moniker.

The video teaser that was published on Instagram is showing a silver C63 from different angles, revealing a few design details including the side gills, the LED lighting units, the AMG-style alloy wheels, and the carbon-fiber lip spoiler at the back.

See Also: Mercedes Wants To Keep Building And Selling V8s Beyond 2030

The truth is that we have already seen most of the C63’s aggressive bodykit, since AMG exhibited a lightly camouflaged prototype a few months ago at Goodwood. This one was wrapped in a special livery that did little to hide the design of the performance-focused sedan, including the extra bits from Affalterbach.

Compared to the less powerful Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic, the C63 sports slightly sportier front bumper intakes, unique side gills with “turbo” lettering, a more prominent rear spoiler and beefier rectangle-shaped quad-exhaust pipes. The performance flagship of the C-Class range will be available in both sedan and estate bodystyle flavors, going against the family-friendly BMW M3 Sedan/Touring and the Audi RS4 Avant.

More important changes though are hidden underneath the bodywork. It has been confirmed that the new C63 will be fitted with a plug-in hybrid powertrain producing a combined 661 hp (500 kW / 670 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, which is much more than the 500 hp (380 kW / 510 PS) of its twin-turbo V8-powered predecessor.

Those class-leading numbers will be achieved thanks to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system and an electric turbo producing 464 hp (350 kW / 470 PS), plus a rear-mounted electric motor contributing another 198 hp (150 kW / 201 PS) to the rear wheels. The model will come standard with the rear-biased and drift-friendly 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system and a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

We will learn more about the new Mercedes-AMG C63 E Performance – including its much-anticipated performance numbers – on September 21. Note that the E Performance badge was introduced by the flagship AMG Four-Door GT, and will gradually find its way on the electrified “63” variants of the C-Class, E-Class, AMG GT sportscar, and SL roadster.

A New South Park Game Has Been Teased

THQ Nordic’s latest digital showcase shared all sorts of game announcements, but perhaps the highlight of the lot was the final teaser right at the very end.

The company has officially confirmed a new South Park game is in development, cutting down its list of unannounced games by one. Apart from this, the only other thing we know at the moment is the involvement of South Park Digital Studios.

It’s been some time since the previous South Park video games, and this new one is likely to be an entirely different experience.

The most recent entries South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole are both available on Nintendo Switch and were published by Ubisoft.

If we hear any updates about this upcoming game, including platforms and a release date, we’ll let you know.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Launch Date Potentially Teased by Qualcomm

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will potentially see a Q4, 2022 announcement if Qualcomm’s launch history is anything to go by. Now, if you are wondering when exactly will the official unveiling happen, the chip maker may have left a massive clue.

Qualcomm Could Unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 a Good Two Weeks Before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 From Last Year

The Snapdragon Summit is an annual conference where Qualcomm showcases the latest technologies that it has been working on, including one chipset that will fuel future Android flagships. On this occasion, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to be found in premium handsets of 2023, and according to the San Diego chip maker’s events page, the Snapdragon Summit will be held between November 14-17.

Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 Gets Praise for Its Energy Efficiency, Tipster Claims That Customers Can Purchase Android Flagships Without Worry

Looking at Qualcomm’s history, the flagship mobile SoC is typically announced on the first day of the Snapdragon Summit, meaning that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could see an unveiling on November 14. Qualcomm’s phone partners like Xiaomi are also expected to attend the conference, where it may provide a preview of its flagship series shipping with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In this case, those premium smartphones will likely be called the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro.

We may also get a preview of the Snapdragon 8cx 3 successor, which is unnamed for now, but earlier reports placed this SoC as a competitor to the M1. Qualcomm stated earlier that it would take advantage of the Nuvia acquisition to bolster its future chipset’s performance in a bid to take on Apple’s M-series. As for what we know about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm will likely stick with TSMC’s 4nm architecture to mass produce its next-generation silicon.

TSMC is said to start mass production of Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max later this year using its cutting-edge 3nm technology, but it is doubtful that Qualcomm will take advantage of this node at least until next year. Thankfully, with what we have seen with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will boast improved power efficiency and increased performance.

It may also be the first SoC from Qualcomm to sport a completely new CPU cluster in years, foregoing the ‘1 + 3 + 4’ core configuration and switching to a ‘1 + 2 + 2 + 3’ configuration instead. Whether or not this change will deliver substantial improvements is anyone’s guess, so as always, we will wait for actual results to come through.

More information about this chipset will likely be available in the coming weeks.

iPhone 14 dummy unit video just teased design for all four new models

So far, the iPhone 14 rumors we’ve heard have been surprisingly in sync, with very little disagreement about what’s coming to Apple’s next flagship.

In terms of headlines, we’re expecting the iPhone 13 mini to be replaced by an iPhone 14 Max, while the iPhone 14 Pro versions are likely to benefit from a new chunky 48MP camera, and could also ditch the divisive notch for something that may prove even more divisive.

But despite these differences, the design looks quite similar in the unoffocial renders we’ve seen, which is why dummy units offer a useful comparison. And here iUpdate (opens in new tab) has stepped in with a new video, helpfully comparing very realistic looking iPhone 14 models to what’s currently on offer.

Based on this video, the regular iPhone 14 will look virtually identical to the standard iPhone 13, while the iPhone 14 Max will just look like a larger version of that, with no design innovation beyond its growth spurt.

Still, presenter Sam Kohl is pretty clear that he believes the latter will be the big seller this year: “This is going to be the most popular model by far,” he says. “Just feeling this and seeing the two cameras on the back, it just feels right,” he adds.

But it’s the Pro models that hint at the biggest change this year. Just look at the difference between the camera bump on last year’s iPhone 13 Pro (left) and the 14 Pro dummy (right):

“It’s really only when you see these side by side when you’re like ‘oh that’s not just a camera bump, that’s a camera hump,’” exclaims Kohl. But it’s there for good reason: a boost to 48MP that should comfortably offer the best iPhone photography yet.

As for the notch, you’re better off referring to the many iPhone 14 Pro renders that have been released, as these dummy units don’t actually have screens. But for Kohl’s part, he thinks buyers will be briefly shocked and will then get used to it within minutes.

Apple’s upselling gamble

From these dummy units and everything else we’ve heard so far, it really appears that 2022 is the year that Apple begins to take upselling seriously.

The regular iPhone 14 — based on these dummy units at least — could look indistinguishable from the iPhone 13, with the real innovation reserved for the Pro models. There’s even a strong rumor that it will stick with the Apple A15 chip used last year.

That makes sense on one level: Apple needs to make the iPhone 14 Pro stand out if it wants more people to buy it. “Faster and with better cameras” are two selling points which are both desirable and easy to understand. It will also help Apple’s most expensive phone to compete with Samsung’s finest — a battle we’ve looked at in our iPhone 14 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra face-off.

But if the regular iPhone 14 looks like the iPhone 13 and even has the same processor built in, then why would I not just buy last year’s model instead? That’s the question Apple needs to answer if it doesn’t want its usually reliable top seller to be left on store shelves when September rolls around.
