It includes the base game, select downloadable content, 1600 Minecoins, six maps (including the Super Mario Mash-up), three skin packs, a texture pack, five character creator items and three emotes. Sports Story Blocks Access To “Secret Dev Room” In Latest Update (Version 1.0.4)

Image: Sidebar Games

Sports Story wasn’t in the best state at launch, but fortunately, a few updates have been released since then. We’re now up to Version 1.0.4 and while it includes the usual fixes and improvements, it’s also got one other interesting change in it.

Access to the “secret dev room’ has now been blocked. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s a section of the game where you go into a hidden area and can talk to the “developers of the video game” about the development environment. Here are the full patch notes for Sports Story Version 1.0.4:

Sports Story – Version 1.0.4 (29th January, 2023)

Main

Blocked access to the secret dev room.

Progress

  • If the squid boss disappears, he will return to the platform after reloading the game.
  • Wildlands birdie medals task will tick off correctly if medals are collected over multiple rounds.
  • Fixed some trades that required some amount of money to work.

Misc

  • Various fixes for places/events where the player could become stuck.
  • Clubs screens will show beyond 5 clubs correctly.
  • Fixed an issue that can lock the player sometimes after throwing golf balls.
  • 30% coupon working correctly now.
  • Catching fish with the sticky hand won’t cause issues anymore.
  • Fixed the swing bar when using the PureStrike Green woods.

Sports Story got a surprise release last December, and while we didn’t mind it, it wasn’t quite “up to par” after such a long wait. Here’s a brief snippet of our review:

“If you loved the original, you’ll likely find Sports Story to be a fun-enough follow-up, but there’s no denying that it feels like quite a letdown after years of waiting. Assuming Sidebar can sort out the worst of the technical issues, we’d give Sports Story a light recommendation to anyone looking for a quirky take on a sports RPG, but this one doesn’t deserve a spot at the top of your list.”

Advance Wars’ Delayed Switch Release Might Finally Be Reporting For Duty

Image: Nintendo Life

One game we’re hoping to see show up on the Switch at some point this year is Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp. The last update for this title was featured in a Nintendo financial report last November – revealing the game’s release date was still “TBA”.

Now, in the latest development, a thread on Famiboards has apparently highlighted changes to the game’s eShop web page – with “new NSUID attached”. As explained in the same post, a new NSUID means “pre-orders will be going live at some point in the future”.

In addition to this development, it seems more online listings have now resurfaced for Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp. This supposedly includes new and updated listings on Amazon Mexico and Canada, Walmart, Best Buy and EB Games (thanks, My Nintendo News).

As you might recall, Advance Wars for Switch suffered multiple delays and was then pushed back (again) last March due to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Apart from the recent financial report referencing the title, a Nintendo representative also reconfirmed last September the two-in-one game had only been “delayed”, not axed.

It’s pretty clear the Switch version is ready to go as well – with a Switch fan in April last year gaining early access to the title by accident. Nintendo ended up cancelling the purchase and providing a refund.

Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sports Story On Switch

COG Connected gave Sports Story 60 out of 100 – mentioning how underdone it was compared to its predecessor:

“Sports Story pales in comparison to its predecessor. The plot fails to capture the whimsy which engulfs the original. While I understand Sidebar Games’ decision to go large with its narrative, in doing so, it removes the simplicity which makes Golf Story so unforgettable. Although it expands its gameplay with a number of new sporting activities, the success of these varies. Combining this with the volume of performance issues and bugs means this swing is a whiff rather than a hit.”

The YouTube channel SwitchUp was a little more forgiving, acknowledging how the issues will likely be patched, resulting in a better game in the future:

“It’s still a flawed gem…there’s a gem in here for sure, it’s a bit random, it’s a bit all over the place at times, but I can see what they were trying and I think those playing this a year from now, it’ll probably be a blast…I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do.”

And the Italian game website Multiplayer.it seemed to enjoy it a lot more than other critics – awarding it a score of eight out of ten, even with “the bugs present”. Here’s a rough translation via Google:

“Sports Story continues in the footsteps traced by Golf Story, maintaining the same protagonist and different elements of the appreciated cast of the first work of Sidebar Games, improving numerous elements in its formula.”

Note: If we see any more reviews go up in the new year, we’ll add them to the above round up.

Capcom Wants To “Hear From You” In Its 2022 End Of Year Survey

Image: Capcom

We’re so close to the end of 2022, and as part of this, Capcom is currently hosting a special end-of-year survey – reflecting on another year of gaming, and what’s ahead for the company in 2023. If you do happen to be a fan, you might want to let them know how you’re feeling by participating.

The usual questions about country, age and the consoles you own pop up, and this is followed by a series of questions about the Capcom franchises you play, what games you’re looking forward to next year and what you also played in 2022.

Another part of the survey focuses on purchasing habits – asking participants how they buy games (physically or digitally), if they are aware of Capcom’s digital sales currently taking place, when they buy a new game, and what encourages them to purchase a game during a sale.

Some games referenced throughout the survey include the upcoming titles Mega Man Battle Network Legacy, Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you do decide to participate in this survey you’ll score a free PC/mobile wallpaper upon completion. This survey runs until 5th January, so join in while you can.

Two New Side-Scrolling Action Platformers Are Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2023

Image: PID Games

Publisher PID Games has today announced its plans to bring two new action-platformers to the Nintendo Switch and multiple other systems in 2023.

First up we’ve got Gravity Circuit by Domesticated Ant Games – a “flashy” action packed 2D platformer drawing inspiration from the classics of yesteryear. Players take control of a hero named Kai – who is the world’s last line of defense. Some key features include a slew of combos and moves, new power-ups to unlock, and a single-player campaign with 12 stages.

Next up is Elypse by Hot Chili Games. We’re kind of getting Hollow Knight vibes with the character design and artwork. In this one, players are sent into the Abyss – “a place worshipped as it is feared” and are tasked with escaping. The game combines platforming and action across an environment filled with traps and dangers. Along the way there are skills and abilities to unlock, and a lot to explore.

Both of these titles will be arriving at some point in 2023 on the Nintendo Switch. What are your first impressions? Leave a comment down below.
