Rumour: Nintendo Direct supposedly happening 7th February (update: mods not confident)

Update: Reddit mods have now removed the initially mod approved post saying user contacted with valid proof of contact with employee for company working closely with Nintendo. Employee was asked if there will be a direct on the 7th of February, and replied “confirmed” That’s it.

The moderators on the Gaming Leaks subreddit have apparently verified that a site member has supposedly shared proof with them that a Nintendo Direct presentation is happening on Tuesday, 7th February. The moderators of the subreddit would not elaborate about the proof provided by the user to verify it, but they seem confident enough to make a post about the Nintendo Direct along with sharing the aforementioned date. If we hear anything official regarding a Nintendo Direct presentation then we will certainly let you all know.

Smash Bros. Creator Masahiro Sakurai Supposedly Confirms He’s “Semi-Retired”

Image: Nintendo

In a recent interview with Denfaminicogamer, the legendary video game developer Masahiro Sakurai apparently confirmed he is now semi-retired.

He elaborated on this, mentioning how he worked on the Super Smash Bros. series for around nine years between the 3DS/Wii U and Switch release, along with the DLC updates. Sakurai feels he’s got to draw the line somewhere, or else he’ll simply run out of time to live his own life.

Here’s the summary of Sakurai’s latest update, courtesy of a translation by PushDustin:

“Sakurai confirms that he is semi-retired. He is 52 after all. When Smash for 3DS / Wii U and Ultimate he spent 9 years in active development. Sakurai felt that if he is just continuously making games full time, his life will be over before he realizes it.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard Sakurai talk about his future now that Smash Ultimate is complete. Previously he’s mentioned how a new entry in the Smash series would be a massive undertaking.

Development on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate wrapped up not long after the reveal of the DLC fighter Sora in October last year. Although major updates have finished, Nintendo is still releasing amiibo for the game – with Kazuya and Sephiroth scheduled to arrive next month. These will be followed by Pyra and Mythra.

Many of those stricken with omicron say this supposedly “mild” variant isn’t so mild

Compared to earlier variants of COVID-19, the omicron variant is often referred as “mild.”

Yet many of those who are stricken with this iteration of the virus have discovered that “mild” is a relative term.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of the omicron variant include cough, fatigue, congestion and a runny nose. This week, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that nearly 21 million Covid cases were reported to the WHO over the last week, setting a new global record for weekly cases due to the rapid spread. As more people are getting infected with omicron (vaccinated, boosted, and unvaccinated) due to its increased contagiousness and ability to evade immunity, many of those who are infected are surprised when their symptoms aren’t exactly what they’d consider mild.

Tom Womack, a 54-year-old in Texas, got a breakthrough infection over Christmas. Womack was fully vaccinated (although not boosted, because he recently started a new job and didn’t want to miss work), though most of the people he went to dinner with were both vaccinated and boosted — including his girlfriend. Womack suspects this outing was where he contracted COVID-19. At the restaurant where they dined out, the staff did not wear masks. Within 24 hours of the outing, one of the dinner’s attendees started to feel sick. On Christmas morning, Womack went for a hike with his girlfriend.

“Although we hike often it was really challenging for us that day,” Womack said via email. “We were both really tired and out [of] breath the entire time.”

Later that night, Womack felt unusually tired. His toes and fingers were sore — then the cold chills started.

RELATED: Omicron variant of COVID-19 may be the most contagious virus to ever exist, scientists say

“Bone-crushing cold chills that literally had me shaking, a pounding headache and fever started at the same time,” Womack said. “I wore a jacket to bed under the blankets and comforter and still couldn’t get warm. I woke up a few hours soaked in a cold sweat, still with a pounding headache. The chills had largely faded, but now I was hot.”

Womack said his girlfriend felt fine that night, but had similar— albeit milder — symptoms the next morning.

“The first couple days were the worst for both of us, the cold chills went away after the first night and my fever subsided within 24 to 48 hours,” Womack explained. “After that, it felt like a regular cold with congestion, fatigue and a dry cough.”

Still, Womack had “pounding headaches nearly all day, every day for the first week or so,” which lasted on and off for two weeks.

“Even after we both recovered and felt fine, both Liz and I had long-term fatigue,” Womack said. “Every afternoon for more than two weeks, I literally couldn’t focus or stay awake and would have to take a 20-30 nap around 2-3pm.”

There is debate as to whether it is a good idea to promote the narrative that the omicron variant yields only “mild” cases. According to a report published by Imperial College London on December 22, 2021, COVID-19 patients with the omicron variant were 20 to 25 percent less likely to be hospitalized compared to those who had delta. Omicron patients also had a 40 to 45 percent reduced risk of a hospital stay that lasted more than one day, compared to delta. These statistics are where the notion that omicron is “mild” is derived from. But some scientists fret over the designation.

“I think it’s pretty clear omicron causes less severe disease than the delta variant, but that’s not saying much,” Zoë Hyde, an epidemiologist at the University of Western Australia, told The Scientist. “We know that delta was more than twice as severe as the original strain, and if Imperial College is right to say that omicron is about 40-45% less likely to put people in hospital [than delta was], we’re back to 2020 but with a more contagious strain.”

More recent research shows that omicron appears to spare the lungs, unlike delta. Still, many patients report miserable symptoms. Marcos Martinez, a 36-year-old living in New York City, got COVID-19 over the holidays as omicron started to spread across the city. His case started with an ear infection.

“The ear infection was so bad I couldn’t even fall asleep,” Martinez said. “I’m not sure that the infection was separate or was a one to symptoms, but that definitely wasn’t mild.”

Martinez estimates the ear infection lasted about a week, and the cough lasted about two weeks.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center, told Salon that one’s individual experience with COVID-19 “varies based on their own idiosyncrasies.”

“When a Covid case is referred to as mild, that is still a spectrum of illness. Some people may experience nothing at all or maybe mild nasal congestion whereas others may be confined to the couch for a couple of days,” Adalja said. “However, what is in common among these cases is that these are not going to, generally, be cases that prompt people to visit an emergency department.”

Adalja added that a person infected with COVID-19 should seek immediate medical attention if they’re experiencing “shortness of breath, severe weakness, [or] unremitting fever.”

Indeed, some public health officials, like WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, have warned against calling omicron “mild.”

“While omicron does appear to be less severe compared to delta, especially in those vaccinated, it does not mean it should be categorized as mild,” Tedros said earlier this month. “Just like previous variants, omicron is hospitalizing people and it is killing people.”

“In fact, the tsunami of cases is so huge and quick, that it is overwhelming health systems around the world,” Tedros continued.

However, there are some who did experience what they consider to be “mild” cases. Donna Gleize, who lives in Toulon, France, said she was relieved that the symptoms she experienced weren’t “fierce.”

“The symptoms were slight fever, feeling cold, heavy headache, sore throat, and body aches,” Gleize wrote in an email to Salon. “Lasted 48 hours for both my husband and I, and we are both vaccinated (x2).”

Rumour: Persona 3 Portable Is Supposedly Getting A “Multiplatform” Remaster

Image: Atlus

Yesterday, rumours became true when the Atlus and Arc System Works’ 2D fighting game Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was officially announced for the Nintendo Switch and multiple other modern platforms.

Now, in an interesting update, the same leaker who teased this announcement ahead of its official reveal is claiming Persona 3 Portable will be receiving a “multiplatform” remaster. Here’s exactly what ‘Zippo’ had to say in a new post over on their blog:

“Oh, and Persona 3 Portable is getting a remaster. Multiplatform.”

While it might all seem a bit sudden, Atlus is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of Persona. It’s also teased that it has seven project reveals planned to celebrate this special occasion.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable is an enhanced port of the original PlayStation 2 game, first released on the PlayStation Portable in 2009. It featured various new options – including the ability to play as a female protagonist.

While we wait to see how this latest Persona rumour unfolds, why not check out the latest Atlus announcement from yesterday – confirming it will be bringing Persona 4 Arena Ultimax to the Nintendo Switch next year in March.

Exp. Share Supposedly Can’t Be Turned Off In The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

Image: Pokémon / Nintendo

If you’re a player who likes to take a more hands-on approach when training your Pokémon, you might want to read on. The upcoming remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl won’t allow players to deactivate Exp. Share. This detail was reportedly confirmed in the latest round of previews.

In case you need a refresher, Exp. Share gives Pokémon in battle experience, as well as the Pokémon in your party. While this is no different to how Exp. Share functioned in Pokémon Sword and Shield, it seems to have raised some concerns about the remakes.

Some trainers on social media are worried it will make the game too easy and that they won’t have as much control over levelling when it comes to competitive play and EV training.

One other adjustment that’s been flagged in the latest round of previews is the return of single-use TMs. While it’s not the end of the world, some fans don’t seem very happy about it:

“People talking about the exp share but honestly the return of single use TMs is way worse for me… That’s such an unnecessary pull back, they’ve been unlimited since BW1”

On another note, auto-saves will also return and can be disabled. What are your own thoughts about all of this? Leave a comment down below.

Switch Players Are Supposedly Encountering All Sorts Of Glitches In Sonic Colors Ultimate

Image: Nintendo Life

Update [Mon 6th Sep, 2021 05:30 BST]: Blind Squirrel Games and Sega of America’s social media manager for Sonic the Hedgehog have acknowledged the feedback and are investigating the issues:

Original Article [Sun 5th Sep, 2021 17:00 BST]: Nintendo Switch owners who purchased the ‘Digital Deluxe’ version of Sonic Colors Ultimate are supposedly running into all sorts of launch bugs – with some even warning of potential seizure risks.

Since fans got hold of the Switch build earlier this week, social media has been flooded with complaints about this particular release. As VGC explains, players have highlighted “severely glitched visuals”, characters falling through scenery, soft locks and crashes – comparisons have even been drawn to Sonic ’06. Loading times are also significantly longer.

Perhaps most worrying are warnings about seizure-inducing screens – which sounds rather similar to what we previously saw in Square Enix’s Balan Wonderworld. Sega has released a day-one patch for Ultimate, but it’s not clear just yet if it resolves any of the issues players have apparently been encountering in the Nintendo build.

It’s worth noting how some of these uploads show footage of the game running on emulators and hacked Switch, while other footage is believed to be captured directly from the retail release. Some of the original footage that surfaced was called out:

We did not encounter any of these graphics glitches or bugs during our own time with Sonic Colors Ultimate on Switch.

Eurogamer reveals how Sega originally called on Blind Squirrel Games to develop the Sonic Colors remaster, and most recently, the developer has come under fire for not crediting the free open source Godot engine. It was quick to respond – acknowledging its mistake, and promised to correct the issue in an upcoming patch:

Switch fans previously voiced their disappointment about the Nintendo version of Sonic Colors Ultimate in July, when it was discovered the game had been limited to 30 FPS. The full release of this remaster will take place next week on 7th September.

How have you found Sonic Colors on the Switch so far? Have you experienced any of these problems? Vote in our poll and leave a comment down below.

Google’s quantum computer supposedly just made a time crystal

Google’s quantum computer has been used to build a “time crystal” according to freshly-published research, a new phase of matter that upends the traditional laws of thermodynamics. Despite what the name might suggest, however, the new breakthrough won’t let Google build a time machine.

Time crystals were first proposed in 2012, as systems that continuously operate out of equilibrium. Unlike other phases of matter, which are in thermal equilibrium, time crystals are stable yet the atoms which make them up are constantly evolving.

At least, that’s been the theory: scientists have disagreed on whether such a thing was actually possible in reality. Different levels of time crystals that could or could not be generated have been argued, with demonstrations of some that partly – but not completely – meet all the relevant criteria. In a new research preprint by researchers at Google, along with physicists at Princeton, Stanford, and other universities, it’s claimed that Google’s quantum computer project has delivered what many believed impossible. Preprints are versions of academic papers that are published prior to going through peer-review and full publishing; as such, their findings can be challenged or even overturned completely during that review process.

“Our work employs a time-reversal protocol that discriminates external decoherence from intrinsic thermalization, and leverages quantum typicality to circumvent the exponential cost of densely sampling the eigenspectrum,” the paper suggests. “In addition, we locate the phase transition out of the DTC with an experimental finite-size analysis. These results establish a scalable approach to study non-equilibrium phases of matter on current quantum processors.”

If that has gone right over your head, you’re probably not alone. As Quanta Magazine explains it, the time crystal basically consists of three core elements. First, a row of particles each with its own magnetic orientation gets locked into a mixture of low- and higher-energy configurations. That’s what’s known as a “many-body localization.”

Flipping all of the orientations of those particles – effectively creating a mirror version – is known as eigenstate order. It’s effectively a secondary many-body localized state.

Finally, there’s the application of laser light. That causes the states to cycle – from normal to mirrored, and then back again – but without actually using net energy from the laser itself. The result is known as a Floquet time crystal, first proposed in 2016.

Google’s quantum computer – known as Sycamore – was able to use a chip with 20 of its qubits, or controllable quantum particles, each of which can maintain two states simultaneously. By tuning the interaction strength between the individual quibits, the researchers could randomize the interactions and achieve many-body localization. Microwaves then upended the particles into their mirror orientation, but without the spin change taking net energy from that laser itself.

Where exactly that leaves both the theoretical research and the possible applications of a time crystal remains unclear. Right now, the main implication according to the researchers is that there’s “a scalable approach to study non-equilibrium phases of matter on current quantum processors”; in short, it demonstrates that quantum computers could at least be good for this line of work.

Figuring out a practical application for quantum computers and the reams of theory that come with them has been a common issue for companies digging into the technology. Earlier this year, Google made some bold predictions about just what its quantum project could achieve, pointing to improving batteries, making more effective drugs and vaccines, and generating more effective fertilizers as possible outcomes from such research. As part of that, the company says it is working on a 1,000,000 physical qubit quantum computer, though conceded it would take years before even understanding how that might be constructed could be figured out.

Bank Of America Supposedly Gives Approval For Bitcoin Futures Trading

A recent development in the crypto industry shows that clients of the second-largest bank in America can now engage in Bitcoin futures trading.

The sources of this information stated their preference to remain anonymous. But they disclosed that the bank is allowing some of its clients to trade BTC Futures.

Bitcoin Futures Trading

There has been a lot of competition in the industry on Bitcoin Futures Trading. Bitcoin Futures are known in the market as “Derivative Products” that serve as a contract. It is a commitment between the different parties that agrees to sell or buy a particular asset on an agreed future price and date.

This agreement typically tracks the price of an underlying asset which is usually a digital token. Thus, futures enables users to bet on an asset price.

Sometimes, participants in the contract can go for short or long positions. Those traders who take the long position will usually sign to buy an asset on a particular date. Once the date arrives, the parties settle and close the contract.

This investment option has become very important as a way for institutional investors to engage actively in crypto. The reason is that the ongoing regulatory issues surrounding crypto have made it unattractive for institutional investors to hold Bitcoin directly.

So, Bitcoin futures is a way for them to engage with BTC and many other cryptos in the market. By coming through futures, these investors can indirectly hold any crypto through its underlying asset. ‘

There has been a lot of interest in Bitcoin futures. Many investors are actively engaging in the trade on platforms where it is legal.

For instance, the “Chicago Mercantile exchange” recorded an increase from $910,000 to more than $23 million. According to the latest news, the BoA is set to follow the method of establishments such as Goldman Sachs.

The investment bank started offering Bitcoin futures to its clients through CME in May 2021.  From what the anonymous source revealed, the BoA will also provide the trading through CME, just like Goldman Sachs did.

Countries Supporting BTC Futures

It seems that America is only one of the countries that are supporting Bitcoin Futures. Other countries are also positioning themselves for the opportunities in the instrument.

For example, an exchange based in Singapore Bybit recorded an increase in Bitcoin futures trading volume to $4.2 billion back in May 2021.
