Every hour a child spends playing video games each day raises risk of OCD by 13%, study claims

Every hour a child spends playing video games or watching YouTube videos each day raises their risk of OCD by up to 13%, study claims

  • Scientists in California said ‘loss of control’ from games drove OCD
  • Participants were aged between 11 and 12 years old by the end of the study
  • This is just the latest paper to highlight the risks of video games for children

Every hour a child spends playing video games per day raises their risk of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) by 13 percent, a study suggests.

There was also a correlation between watching YouTube content and OCD – with every hour spent streaming videos associated with an 11 percent raised risk.

Too much screen time in childhood has been linked from everything to eating disorders, mental health problems and gambling addiction in later life

Yet, unlike other studies, the latest research found no association between watching films or movies or playing on cell phones. The researchers blamed YouTube algorithms and addictive video game content for fostering compulsive feelings in preteens.

For every hour a child spends playing video games or streaming videos, their risk of obsessive compulsive disorder, or OCD, rises by more than 10 percent (file photo)

Scientists at the University of California, San Francisco, recruited 9,204 children aged nine to 10.

At the start of the study, each was surveyed on how long they spent gaming and watching TV.

Two years later, their parents or guardians were called back and asked whether their child had been diagnosed with OCD or showed symptoms in line with the condition.

The researchers found that youngsters spent an average of three hours and 54 minutes looking at screens every day.

This excluded time spent on devices at schools for educational purposes.

At follow-up, it was revealed that 405 children (4.4 percent) had been diagnosed with OCD.

Analysis showed children who spent longer on video games or streaming videos were more likely to receive the diagnosis.

Texting, video chatting and time spent on social media were not linked to a higher risk, but the scientists warned this may have been because youngsters in this age group do not use them often. The results may be different with older teens, the researchers said.

Dr Jason Nagata, a pediatrician at the University of California, San Francisco, who led the study, said: ‘Although screen time can have important benefits such as education and increased socialization, parents should be aware of the potential risks, especially to mental health.

‘Children who spend excessive time playing video games report feeling the need to play more and more and being unable to stop despite trying.

‘Intrusive thoughts about video game content could develop into obsessions or compulsions.

He added: ‘Screen addictions are associated with compulsivity and loss of behavioral control, which are core symptoms of OCD.’

To mitigate risks linked to screen time, families should make a ‘media plan,’ where they set up rules and limits, the researchers suggested.

‘Although screen time can have important benefits such as education and increased socialization, parents should be aware of the potential risks, especially to mental health,’ says Nagata in the press release.

‘Families can develop a media use plan which could include screen-free times including before bedtime.’

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends children spend no longer than one to two hours in front of screens every day.

But current estimates suggest under-18s spend four hours and six minutes playing video games, watching TV and on social media daily — an hour and 20 minutes more than before the Covid pandemic.

OCD is a mental health condition affecting around 2.5million American adults which is normally diagnosed before turning 18 years old.

Symptoms include having repetitive unwanted or unpleasant thoughts.

Those with the condition may also develop compulsive behavior — a physical action or something mental — which they do over and over to try to relieve the obsessive thoughts.

Patients are diagnosed after a thorough mental health assessment with doctors. Treatment includes behavioral therapy and medication.

The study was published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.

What is obsessive compulsive disorder?

Obsessive compulsive disorder, usually known as OCD, is a common mental health condition which makes people obsess over thoughts and develop behavior they struggle to control.

It can affect anyone at any age but normally develops during young adulthood.

It can cause people to have repetitive unwanted or unpleasant thoughts.

People may also develop compulsive behavior – a physical action or something mental – which they do over and over to try to relieve the obsessive thoughts.

The condition can be controlled and treatment usually involves psychological therapy or medication.

It is not known why OCD occurs but risk factors include a family history of the condition, certain differences in brain chemicals, or big life events like childbirth or bereavement.

People who are naturally tidy, methodical or anxious are also more likely to develop it.

About 2.5million Americans, and three-quarters of a million Britons have the condition, estimates suggest.

Liz Cheney’s PAC spends $500,000 in Arizona to defeat GOP nominee Kari Lake

Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is targeting Arizona Republicans for defeat with a new $500,000 ad buy from her PAC attacking the GOP nominees for governor and secretary of state.

“I don’t know that I have ever voted for a Democrat, but if lived in Arizona, I absolutely would,” Cheney says in a new 30-second ad released Friday.

The ad, titled “Honor,” features remarks Cheney gave earlier this month in Tempe, Arizona, at an event hosted by the McCain Institute. Speaking at Arizona State University, Cheney said that Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake and Secretary of State nominee Mark Finchem should be defeated because they questioned the results of the 2020 presidential election.

“If you care about the survival of our republic, we cannot give people power who will not honor elections,” Cheney says. “We must have elected officials who honor that responsibility.”

ARIZONA, PENNSYLVANIA, OHIO, AND OTHER STATES WITH IMPORTANT MIDTERM RACES: WHY DO THEY MATTER?

Cheney’s group, The Great Task, is an anti-Trump PAC that takes its name from a phrase in President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The group says it is “focused on reverence for the rule of law, respect for our Constitution, and a recognition that all citizens have a responsibility to put their duty to the country above partisanship.”

The congresswoman, who lost her primary race in August to pro-Trump candidate Harriet Hageman, has previously invoked Lincoln’s legacy in calls for the Republican Party to reject former President Donald Trump and “cult of personality.”

“We’ve to get this party back to the principles and values on which it was founded,” Cheney told NBC’s “Today Show” in August.

CONSERVATIVES SLAM ‘FAILED’ LIZ CHENEY AFTER SHE ENDORSES DEMOCRAT

As vice chair of the Jan. 6 Committee, Cheney has sought to prove that Trump incited the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and has endorsed Democratic candidates for Congress over Trump-supporting Republicans in the 2022 midterm campaign.

On Thursday, Cheney endorsed Michigan Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin over her Republican opponent, state Sen. Tom Barrett.

Kanye West spends money ‘like it’s water,’ living in luxury hotels and rentals, friend tells TMZ

Kanye West has been like a vagabond recently as he has blown through tons of cash as he jumps from city-to-city while staying in luxury hotels and fancy rental homes.

The 45-year-old artist – who boasts an impressive an impressive portfolio – has opted to not stay in any of the homes he has purchased and instead live life as a transient who has splashed a ridiculous amount of cash.

Of his spending habits, a source – who claims to be one of Kanye’s former friends – told TMZ on Tuesday: ‘He blows through his money like it’s water.’

BMF: Kanye West (seen in London last month) has been like a vagabond recently as he has blown through tons of cash as he jumps from city-to-city while staying in luxury hotels and fancy rental homes

The insider told the publication that he rarely stays in the same place for more than a few days and that he spends money like it’s nothing including footing the bill for his Yeezy fashion show in Paris earlier this month.

He definitely has the capital to spend as his net worth is an estimated $4billion according to Celebrity Net Worth.

TMZ also notes that their insider claims that the All Of The Lights hitmaker has made some bold business decisions including firing Shervin Pishevar from Yeezy in addition to other advisors and publicists.

During a recent interview on Drink Champs, Ye said that he had recently purchased a $50million penthouse which is another addition to his already packed real estate portfolio.

Of his spending habits, a source – who claims to be one of Kanye’s former friends – told TMZ on Tuesday: ‘He blows through his money like it’s water,’ the 45-year-old artist is seen in LA on Friday

Kanye already owns many multi-million dollar properties including one notably across the street from estranged wife Kim Kardashian.

In December 2021, the Yeezy founder – who shares four children with his 41-year-old ex – bought a 3651 square-foot, 5-bedroom home in LA’s exclusive Hidden Hills for $4.5which he still has not lived in.

Months earlier in September 2021, he dropped a whopping $57.3million on a sprawling beachside home in Malibu in an off-market deal.

The stunning property which looks like a piece of art was designed by Japanese Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando and was built by Marmol Radziner.

Earlier this week, Kanye launched into another anti-Semitic rant as he discussed a sex story involving his estranged wife Kim and her ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson.

The rapper shocked fans last week when he tweeted that he was going to ‘go death con 3 on Jewish people…’ which resulted in him being banned from the microblogging app.

Yet he doubled down on his view during an interview on Drink Champs as he claimed that Kim discussing her sex life with Pete alluded to Jewish Zionist practice.

West was referring to a scene on the The Kardashians, in which Kim, 41, spoke about how she slept with Pete, 28, in front of a fireplace in tribute to her grandmother.

Rant: Kanye claimed Kim’s recent sex confession with Pete Davidson was spurred on by ‘Jewish Zionists’ as he doubled down on anti-Semitic claims in an interview on Drink Champs

In his rant, West told hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN: ‘We Jew so I can’t be anti-Semite. First of all, I need my stadiums back. The 78 media outlets that called me an “abuser” when I was trying to get… Pete Davidson away from my kids that was tattooing my kids’ names on him, Skete.

‘Kim is a Christian – on TMZ, I just saw it yesterday, it said, “Pete Davidson and Kim had sex by the fireplace to honor they grandmother,”‘ he said.

‘It’s Jewish Zionists that’s about that life, that’s telling this Christian woman that has four black children to put that out as a message in the media.’

He continued: ‘So when I drive by and I see the Hulu ads and I see the JP [Morgan Chase] ads, I’m gonna let y’all know right now, the devil is a defeated foe – you can’t poison me.’

Kardashian filed from divorce from West in February of 2021, and the former couple are parents of four children: North, nine, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three.

Former flames: Kardashian was romantically-involved with Saturday Night Live star Davidson from October last year to August

Kardashian was romantically-involved with Saturday Night Live star Davidson from October last year to August.

Prior to their split, Kim opened up about one of their sexual encounters while speaking with her grandmother on her reality show.

She said: ‘You know what’s so crazy? Pete and I were staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel last weekend and we were sitting in front of the fireplace just talking for hours.

‘I was like, “My grandma told me that you really live life when you have sex in front of the fireplace. And so, we had sex in front of the fireplace in honor of you. I know that’s probably creepy.”‘

Claims: West said that ‘it’s Jewish Zionists that’s about that life, that’s telling this Christian woman that has four Black children to put that out as a message in the media’

West’s vitriolic message against Jewish people was his second in as many weeks, as last week he tweeted: ‘I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE … The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also … you guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.’

In the controversial interview, West also said ‘the Jewish media blocked me out’ after a previous interview with a separate outlet was not aired; and that ‘Jewish people control the Black voice.’

West said he spoke without fear of harming his professional or personal life, as he said he has already been subject to numerous consequences.

‘Y’all already f****d with me so much you already Black Mirrored me; you already made people think I’m crazy, you already took my family away, you already separated all my friends. I don’t got no celebrity friends.’

West also took aim at talk show host Trevor Noah, who has past been critical of his behavior amid a public series of outbursts aimed at Kardashian and Davidson earlier this year.

‘Trevor Noah, not even from America, he just looks Black right?’ West said. ‘Gonna say, yo, Kim it’s gonna get dangerous, he putting all that “He so crazy, he’s so OJ.” Nori just wants the family back together, I just want the family back together.’

Elsewhere during the interview, West said: ‘Jewish people have owned the black voice. Whether it’s through us wearing a Ralph Lauren shirt, or it’s all of us being signed to a record label, or having a Jewish manager, or being signed to a Jewish basketball team, or doing a movie on a Jewish platform like Disney.’

Candid: Prior to their split, Kim opened up about her sexual encounter with Davidson while speaking with her grandmother Mary Jo ‘MJ’ Campbell in a segment on the show

He continued: ‘I respect what the Jewish people have done and how they brought their people together. You know they came into money through the lawyers. After Wall Street, when all of the Catholics, they wouldn’t divorce people, so the Jewish people came in they were willing to divorce people and that’s when they came into their money.’

West said that he and other black people are the ‘darker Jews’ as they are part of the 12 lost tribes of Israel. ‘We’re Jewish also. We’re from Africa also. We’re the blood of Christ. We’re not just black,’ he went on.

The rapper said that venture capitalist Ben Horowitz once called him to complain that Jay-Z was giving away ‘Jewish business secrets.’

Blocked: In the controversial interview, West also said ‘the Jewish media blocked me out’ after a previous interview with a separate outlet was not aired

Last week , the Holocaust Museum in Los Angeles invited the Chicago rapper to visit their exhibitions. The museum said in an Instagram post: ‘Words matter and words have consequences Ye. We urge you to come visit us at Holocaust Museum LA to understand just how words can incite horrific violence and genocides.

The post continued: ‘The Holocaust started with only words that sadly begat stereotypes, racial and religious tropes and blaming others and led to the murder of six million Jews.’

According to the American Jewish Council, Jewish people are the targets of 60 percent of religious hate crimes in America despite making up two percent of the population.

Shocking: West’s vitriolic message against Jewish people was his second in as many weeks, as last week, as he posted an antisemitic message October 7 after he faced restrictions on Instagram

Trump’s PAC spends over $3.8 million on legal fees in August

Former President Donald Trump spent over $3.8 million on “legal consulting” fees in August, the month the FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago home, according to a campaign finance report for his “Save America” political action committee.

A bulk of the legal payments are going to lawyers representing him in the Mar-a-Lago documents case.

The $3,886,999 in legal consulting costs includes a $3 million check written to the law firm Critton, Luttier & Coleman, LLP on Aug. 30. The firm is based out of Palm Beach, Fla., less than three miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club.

Former Florida solicitor general Chris Kise is not currently listed as one of the firm’s attorneys, but Kise was reportedly paid $3 million up front to represent Trump, according to Politico. Kise was previously a partner at Foley & Lardner, but his ties with the firm were severed upon his hiring by Trump. Kise filed articles of incorporation with the state of Florida on Aug. 24 and entered his first appearance for Trump on Sept. 1.

Neither the firm nor Kise responded to CBS News’ requests for comment regarding the payment. A spokesperson for Trump has also not responded to a request for comment.

Save America also paid $207,827 to “Habba Madaio & Associates, LLP,” the firm of Trump attorney Alina Habba.

Ifrah Law PLLC, the firm of Trump attorney James Trusty, received $242,770. Trump attorney Evan Corcoran’s firm, Silverman, Thompson, Slutkin & White, LLC, received $68,413.

Christina Bobb, another member of Trump’s legal team, received $12,051 in payroll payments from the PAC.

The Save America PAC also made payments to several attorneys in other legal cases involving Trump, including the Fulton County District Attorney’s investigation into whether Trump and allies illegally tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Atlanta-based criminal defense attorney Drew Findling’s law firm received $91,209 from the PAC. Findling, a former Trump critic, is representing Trump in the Fulton County case.

Timothy Parlatore’s firm received $29,870.54 from the PAC in August. Parlatore is an attorney who represented Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial nominee Doug Mastriano during his brief appearance before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

While another committee, the Save America Joint Fundraising Committee, is the primary fundraising vehicle for the former president, the Save America PAC still holds a majority of Trump’s cash on hand. The PAC reported $92.7 million cash on hand at the end of August, and more than $6 million spent.

The joint fundraising committee will report what it raised from June through August in its mid-October report.

Trump’s PAC, which is billed as a “leadership PAC” to support other candidates, donated $150,000 to the “Wyoming Values PAC” in August, a group opposing Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who lost her reelection race to a Trump-backed candidate, Harriett Hageman.

Throughout the year, the PAC has made over $7.2 million in contributions to other federal or state campaigns. By comparison, the PAC has also spent $7,555,168.09 on event fees for the numerous Trump rallies for candidates.

If Trump runs for president

Trump’s large war chest has raised questions about what would happen to it if he announces he’s running for president in 2024. Erin Chlopak, a senior director for campaign finance at the Campaign Legal Center, said if Trump decides to run, he’d have to create a candidate committee. The money from his leadership PAC cannot be directly transferred to this candidate committee, which would have stricter restrictions on how much he can raise compared to a leadership PAC. Save America would remain a leadership PAC.

In practical terms, Trump’s leadership PAC money could not be used for campaigning if he announces a presidential bid. To this point, he’s been able to use Save America PAC funds for the rallies he holds for other candidates, and because he himself is not a candidate right now, FEC rules allow it.

Trump can also likely make the argument that the existing leadership PAC funds he has on hand can still be used for his legal expenses, even if he does become a candidate.

Chlopak said that while leadership PACs shouldn’t be used for “personal expenses” such as personal legal bills, the FEC has not subjected leadership PACs to those rules.

“We routinely see leadership PACs used essentially like slush funds for office holders’ personal piggy banks. And that has been a real concern, obviously, with a Trump leadership PAC that has successfully raised so much money. For the money to be used at his properties or for paying family members or other expenses, that would not be permitted if it were an official campaign fund,” Chlopak said.

But Chlopak said if Trump declares a 2024 run and has to start another candidate committee, the FEC would be more strict about the use of campaign funds for more personal legal fees. She said they’d look at it at a case-by-case basis on whether it counts as “personal.”

Whether he can use the candidate committee funds to pay for expenses like legal fees related to the Mar-a-Lago documents search is up to the FEC’s discretion, Chlopak said.

“The legal standard is if the personal expense would exist, irrespective to the candidate — like a divorce proceeding or a traffic ticket. The answer to if that applies to the [Mar-a-Lago case] is a close call, since it’s intertwined with his status as a president,” she said.

“It’s a remarkable amount of money that has been raised so far, so I think we’re all standing by to see what’s going to happen,” she added.

Melissa Quinn contributed to this report.

How a Jazz Musician and Entrepreneur Spends His Sundays

The jazz bass player Matthew Garrison doesn’t like to slow down. “I’m always thinking, doing,” he said.

As a performer, he has toured with Herbie Hancock, and as a producer, he is helping to organize upcoming shows with the pianist Jason Moran, the drummer Jack DeJohnette and others. But most days, he is focused on producing music events through ShapeShifter Lab and its nonprofit arm, ShapeShifter Plus. He also created the app Tunebend, which facilitates virtual collaborating and recording among musicians.

Mr. Garrison, who is the son of Jimmy Garrison, the bassist for John Coltrane, seems to like pushing boundaries in the jazz world. “I’m really tired of the stagnant music scene, where this club only books a certain type of band and that club only books musicians that play this genre,” he said.

For a decade, Mr. Garrison ran a performance space in Gowanus, Brooklyn, also called the ShapeShifter Lab, but it closed last year. Soon, he will open a new venue. “My new space will be a place for performers, those genius rejects, who would not otherwise be able to play in the city.”

Mr. Garrison, 52, lives in Park Slope with his business partner, Fortuna Sung, 51.

DARK AND QUIET Time has been wonky post-pandemic. It sounds horrible, but sometimes I wake up as early as 4 a.m. I get a lot of work out of the way. I code for my apps, including Tunebend, and organize things on my computer for a few hours because everyone is asleep. There’s no one around calling, texting or bugging you.

CAFFEINATED NAP I might have some coffee and a light breakfast. I have a weird relationship with coffee these days. It doesn’t keep me awake. I now use coffee as a sleep aid. I don’t know how that works. So after I work for a few hours and drink some coffee, I often go back to sleep.

WORKING WEEKEND I wake up again around 9 or 10 a.m. and I’ll have another cup of coffee. The music industry is a 24-hour thing. I communicate with folks in Europe and Japan all the time, so my weekends don’t count as a day off. I have to divide my work hours and devote certain days to my three ventures to get everything done. On Sundays, I try to get to the stuff I couldn’t do during the weekday. But I make a mess if I multitask too much.

STEPS Then I might compose for several hours. Or I go take a walk in Prospect Park or zigzag through neighborhood streets. Sometimes I venture out into Gowanus and Carroll Gardens. Fortuna says I walk too fast, but I need to get my heart rate up. My body is telling me I need it.

SONG LAYERS I listen to music on Tunebend while I walk. I listen to see how all the bits and pieces that were recorded can become layers in a song. You can swap out different performers for the same part, so I do a lot of listening and rearranging. But I’m also interacting with the app as a user to see if anything needs to be tweaked. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but this is how I decompress.

PIECING IT TOGETHER When you’re coding or composing music, you’re problem-solving. You’re in continuous research mode to figure out why something is done in a particular way. In the jazz world, there’s so much that you have to know and be able to play in a fraction of a second. In coding, you also have to remember all these bits and pieces to build something. The only difference between the two worlds is the pay!

NEW SPACE I finally got the keys to a new performance space that we’ll open by the end of the year. So far I’ve done a livestream workshop on how to use the Tunebend app, but I’m gearing up for a lot of fund-raising so we can put on shows and events for all types of musicians here.

SUSTENANCE We get our errands done in the neighborhood, including groceries from the Park Slope Food Co-op. Fortuna, whose family is from Hong Kong, is the better cook. Her artist parents also owned and operated a restaurant, so she knows her way around a kitchen. When we eat out, it might be Japanese or Thai. Today we had dinner with my mom at Littleneck.

OLD-PEOPLE TIME After dinner, I’ll watch TV or read. I’m news-centric: There’s so much stuff to keep up with, which makes me understand how I can make this world a better place. I also like tech stuff, like articles about the newest plug-ins for music software. My mom still scolds me that all my reading is done on a screen. Now I’m on old-people time: I’m in bed by 9 or 10 p.m.

Sunday Routine readers can follow Matthew Garrison on Instagram and Twitter @garrisonjazz.

Fan Spends Six Years Remaking Never-Released Warcraft Game

Gif: Blizzard / DerSilver83 / Kotaku

Years ago, a never-officially-released Warcraft point-and-click adventure game developed by Blizzard in the late ‘90s was leaked online. While the game was completely playable back then, its cutscenes were low-quality, highly compressed, not perfectly synced to the audio, and a few were even just straight up missing from the leak. Now, after years of working on it, someone has remastered all the cutscenes, fixed them up, and made it easier to experience this bit of video game history.

As spotted by Indie Retro News and PC Gamer, modder DerSilver83 recently released the finished 1.0 release of WACRP (Warcraft Adventures Cutscenes Remastered Project). The mod contains 20 completely remastered cutscenes, including two which didn’t actually exist in the initial leak but appeared later on via a different DVD leak.

You can see an example of what this mod and its improved cutscenes look like in the video below:

DerSilver83 / Blizzard

A lot of work went into this release, according to the modder and the project’s website. Apparently, DerSilver83 hand-removed all the compression artifacts from all of the cutscenes. The modder also used Photoshop to painstakingly redraw entire frames and assets, frame-by-frame. Continuity issues have also been fixed and some new transitional scenes have been created entirely from scratch. All audio was also synced and everything now runs at the correct 12fps.

All told, DerSilver83 says they have been working on this mod for about six years, and this latest 1.0 release represents the end of the project. They explained in a post on July 31 that they have done all they can in what they call a “reasonable timeframe” and are happy with the end results.

“I want to remember this project as something fun before it transforms into some kind of a burden,” said DerSilver83 on the project’s site. “So this is it. The final release of my Cutscenes Remaster Project and I hope everybody who uses it can enjoy it as much as I do. I always wanted to create a substantial mod for a game I love and I can finally say that I have achieved (or at least tried) that.”

To actually play this, you’ll need to do some searching around the internet to find the appropriate files needed to play the full game, as this mod only contains the remastered cutscenes and nothing else.

In the meantime, you can read more about Warcraft: Lord of The Clans via this great story from our own Luke Plunkett.

Diablo Immortal player spends $100k on game, now can’t find anyone suitable to matchmake with

UPDATE 03/08/22: Blizzard has responded to the Diablo Immortal player who found themselves unable to get into the battlegrounds after shelling out an eye watering $100k in the game.

In a new video, jtisallbusiness has revealed the developer will be releasing a fix for the issue.

“Blizzard did reach out to me,” jtitsallbusiness said, before stating that a Blizzard representative told them the company had “approved a fix” which will be implemented in the “next coming days”.

“[I] can’t wait to see how the new system works. Hopefully it is designed in a better way,” they added.

Jtisallbusiness acknowledged that the attention from the media and gaming community around his spending in Diablo Immortal helped get the situation resolved.

“[I] really hope that Blizzard thinks about getting a better way for players to communicate about this game,” jtitsallbusiness said. “When you invest a ton of money into a game, [or] even if you are not investing a ton of money… you should have some sort of customer service to be able to talk about something.”

For those interested, here is jtisallbusiness’ Diablo Immortal character.

Money well spent? (via jtisallbusiness/youtube)

The original story continues below.

ORIGINAL STORY 01/08/22: A Diablo Immortal player has splashed a huge amount of cash on their character in Blizzard’s divisive new game.

However, as a result, their matchmaking record is now “so high” they “literally can’t get a battleground”.

Evil is everywhere in Diablo Immortal’s launch trailer.

Content creator jtisallbusiness is now debating an attempt to get a refund for their spending – which they claim to be “around $100k” – from Blizzard.

In a video, the streamer even admitted they are considering calling in lawyers to help with their rather unique situation.

“I can’t do things that I spent money on this character to do, and I have no time frame of when things are going to actually be fixed, or even know if things are going to be fixed because I am the only player in the entire world with this problem,” they said.

Jtisallbusiness stated they previously tried to contact Blizzard directly through forums and Twitter about their predicament. The reply they got from the company said that it was “aware of the issue”. However, nothing has changed for jtisallbusiness since then.

Last month, Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra defended the controversial microtransactions found in Diablo Immortal.

At this time, Ybarra stated that the “vast majority” of players were not spending any money within the game.

“The philosophy was always to lead with great gameplay and make sure that hundreds of millions of people can go through the whole campaign without any costs. From that standpoint, I feel really good about it as an introduction to Diablo,” he said.

Meanwhile, the game’s developers are currently battling an XP bug which it is claimed has cost players “millions” of lost experience points.
