Heavy rain continues to fall across southeast Louisiana Wednesday, some over the same areas for an extended period of time. You can check out our live, interactive radar here. While there will be breaks in the rain, it may be persistent enough to keep flooding issues in areas that have already received too much rainfall. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all of southeast Louisiana through Thursday night.A Flood Advisory is in place for portions of St. Tammany, Washington Parish, and Hancock and Harrison County in Mississippi until 7:15 a.m. Some locations in these areas have seen three to five inches of rain already with another two inches possible. Winter Storm Warning issued for Detroit, Ann Arbor, much of southeast Lower Michigan

The Winter Weather Advisory has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning as confidence grows on heavy snow.

The criteria for a Winter Storm Warning is generally more than 6 inches of snow in a 12-hour time period. It appears that much of southeast Lower will get at least 6 inches of snow from this evening through noon Tuesday, when the snow winds down.

Winter Storm Warning in pink for the heaviest snow, and Winter Weather Advisory in purple.

The pink area is the newly-issued Winter Storm Warning area, and includes Ann Arbor, Detroit, Oakland County, Flint, all of the Thumb except Tuscola County, and the southern border counties.

The Winter Storm Warning effective time gives you a really good feel for the period of heaviest snow. The warning is in effect from 6 p.m. tonight to noon Tuesday. The northern warning area of Genesee County and the western parts of Huron and Lapeer Counties can plan on 5 to 8 inches of snow. Southeast Lower, including Ann Arbor and Detroit can plan on 6 to 9 inches of snow.

So get set for a good old-fashioned heavy February snow. It’s not an extreme snowfall, but it will make dangerous driving tonight and Tuesday morning.
