NASA Spotted The Sun Smiling, And It’s The Most Joyous Thing : ScienceAlert

Sometimes an unexpected smile is all it takes to turn your day around. Well, that kind of cheery surprise doesn’t get much bigger than this.

Astronomers at NASA have spotted the Sun beaming a remarkable, joyous grin, in a sunny spectacle destined to put a smile on your dial.

As shared on NASA’s Sun Twitter account, this incredible image reveals the Sun looking positively radiant in more ways than one.

Of course, the ‘smile’ we see here isn’t actually a real smile. What we’re looking at are coronal holes (the dark patches), where fast bursts of solar wind gush out into space, as NASA explains.

The Sun caught smiling. (NASA Sun/Twitter)

It just so happens – amidst all the crazy solar fluctuations the Sun tends to exhibit – that two of these coronal holes kind of look like twinkling eyes, while a third uncannily resembles an exuberant smile.

What’s really going on here is the phenomenon of pareidolia, where we imagine seeing things like faces in random patterns.

It’s a trick of the mind, only this time it’s being played out on a stupendous, Sun-sized scale.

As some keen-eyed Twitter users have observed, the Sun’s visage here doesn’t only look like a smiling face.

The particular proportions of that exultant grin bear a striking similarity to the facial configuration of a certain legendary villain of Ghostbusters lore: the Stay Puft marshmallow man.

Yes, it really is quite the coincidence.

The phrase ‘separated at birth’ even springs to mind, even if it’s just another example of people seeing something that isn’t really there.

But even if this is just a meaningless, random confluence of mysterious solar physics, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get a laugh out of it.

So enjoy! And always try to look for the positives in life wherever you can.

Let the Sun be your shining example.

Rohit, 12, suffers terrible pain most of the day due to osteoporosis but it doesn’t stop him smiling

Bone cells are constantly dying and being renewed, but in patients with osteoporosis not enough new bone forms. This means they become more porous, weaker and more prone to fracturing. The condition often goes undetected and can cause no symptoms – until bones break.

Broken hips, wrists and spinal vertebrae are common in people with the condition.

Over time, some people who suffer spinal fractures may also develop a stooped posture, as the spine struggles to support the weight of their body, and this can lead to breathing difficulties.

Osteoporosis is more common in women than men – particularly after the menopause – because of falling levels of the female sex hormone oestrogen, which is vital for healthy bone formation.

Patients with osteoporosis have two main types of drug treatment available. The first slows the rate of bone loss, while the second encourages new bone to form.

For almost a decade, no new drugs were deemed effective or safe enough to be given to patients.

But at the end of 2019, the European Medicines Agency approved romosozumab, a new type of bone-forming treatment.

The new treatment, which has the brand name Evenity, works by blocking sclerostin, a substance that stops new bone cells forming.

A study found that post-menopausal women with osteoporosis who were given the new drug had a 73 per cent lower chance of developing a new spinal fracture after a year, compared with women who received a placebo.

The treatment has also been shown to increase the density of the thigh bone, hip and vertebrae.

However, it is not suitable for everyone. Osteoporosis patients at a high risk of a heart attack or stroke should not be given the drug, as one study found it could increase the chances of either happening.

While the drug is being trialed in countries like the UK, it has yet to become widely available in the developing world, leaving many suffers without access to medical care that could improve their condition.

NYC smiling thieves wanted for stealing 400 bulletproof vests donated to benefit Ukraine

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Police in New York City released new photos showing thieves wanted for stealing more than 400 bulletproof vests donated months ago to help the Ukrainian war effort after Russian forces invaded.

The six suspects – some seen smiling and carrying large garbage bags in surveillance images – allegedly broke into the headquarters for the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America located in the East Village section of Manhattan on March 15.

The group forced open the door around 2 p.m. and removed approximately 400 bulletproof vests donated from various law enforcement agencies and stored at the organizations’ offices.

The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the group of individuals depicted in the attached photographs in connection to a burglary within the confines of the 9th Precinct.

The individuals loaded the vests into three different vehicles that fled into Brooklyn, police said. The New York Police Department also released a photo of one of those vehicles, a white van, on Friday.

Long Island’s Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office donated some 450 used, decommissioned vests to the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America intended for Ukrainian medics and humanitarian workers, but it was not clear if the vests donated from that agency were among those stolen, WNBC reported.

The individuals loaded the vests into three different vehicles that fled into Brooklyn, police said. One of the vehicles, a white van, is seen in this photo.

“It is despicable that someone would break into a building to steal supplies and materials intended to aid those affected by this humanitarian crisis,” Vicki DiStefano, a spokeswoman for Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr., told the outlet.

Samsung teases next Galaxy A Series phones – and your wallet is already smiling

The time has come for the often-talked about if not eagerly-anticipated update to Samsung’s mid-range phones: the Galaxy A Series.

On Sunday, the South Korean tech giant sent out invitations to an online-only product event and launch, set for Thursday, March 17, at 10 AM ET. If there was any lingering doubt that Samsung’s next event would address its more affordable handset line, the invite, which features a grid of multi-colored and cheerful “A”s, removes that.

Not much is known about Samsung”s next A Series, a collection of phones that sell for hundreds of dollars less than the flagship Galaxy S series by removing key and often desirable features.

Slower CPUs, fewer cameras, and slightly lesser screen technology, though, has, in the past, translated into big sales for Samsung.

Recent rumors suggest, however, that after pairing the mid-range devices with 5G services in the last lineup, Samsung might go a step further with the next set of Galaxy A Series phones. A flagship-level feature like optical image stabilization (OIS) could appear in the A Series lineup.

A Series phones are attractive because they offer big screens (6.1-inch and above), surprisingly powerful cameras (64MP is not unusual) and good battery life (up to 5,000 mAh). Current A series devices like the Galaxy A42 5G sell for $299. They tend to skimp on CPUs (usually a generation or two back), screens, and the aforementioned high-end camera features like powerful optical and digital Space zoom.

Will Samsung push the Galaxy A Series line further this time, possibly going the Apple route and using the same flagship-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 8 CPU in all of them? Also expect Samsung to deliver details on timing, prices, models, and more. Of course, we won’t know anything until Thursday.

Regina King spent New Year’s Eve smiling and toasting with her son Ian during appearance on CNN

Regina King spent New Year’s Eve with her late son Ian Alexander Jr. just weeks before he killed himself and he even made a brief cameo during the actress’s light-hearted interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen before the ball dropped.

Ian committed suicide on Wednesday, which was his 26th birthday. No further details have been released.

The Oscar and Emmy winner was joined by her son and a man named Brandon, whom she called her ‘bonus son,’ in a virtual appearance on Cooper and Cohen’s New Year’s Eve show.

The three appeared to be in good spirits, toasting one another, during a large family gathering for the holiday

‘Twenty years, we’re all together, this whole family of people are together because of these two [Ian and Brandon] and their lives together that brought us together. And we drink in the spirit of inclusivity too,’ King said.

‘And progress,’ son Ian added.

Ian continues to be seen throughout the remainder of the interview smiling and drinking while mother Regina discusses career highlights, toasts with sister Reina King and goes one-on-one with actress Jackee Harry.

King, Ian and Brandon all shared a toast with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen

Early on in the interview, Cohen and Cooper ask King what her New Year’s resolution is.

The four-time Emmy winner strikes a bit of a melancholy note but hopes for progress in the coming year and inclusivity.

‘New Year’s resolutions don’t always work out for me, so I tend to take the time, like a lot of us do to just kinda reflect about the things that really hit me. That really stuck with me throughout the year,’ she said.

‘One of the things this past two years that sat with me is inclusivity,’ she added. ‘All we’ve been through for the past two years, just how different we all are, but the one thing we have in common is we all want to be seen and when we are all included, things are better.’

King then jokes that ‘things drink better’ to which son Ian jovially raises his glass of Diageo, a London-based beverage company that Alexander notes operates ‘in the spirit of progress.’

Alexander Jr. saluted his mother on her birthday back in January of 2021

The actress then toasts a glass of what she appears to suggest is a Don Julio 1942, which is made by Diageo.

Ian doesn’t appear much for the remainder of the interview, which features a reunion between King and her former 227 co-star Harry, though Jackee does tell King to ‘kiss Ian for me.’

The actress has stayed out of the spotlight since the tragedy.

King’s spokesman confirmed her son’s death in a statement Saturday, reading: ‘Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian.’

‘He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time.’

Haunting last messages posted to Twitter in the days ahead of Ian Alexander Jr.’s death reveal Regina King’s only child felt he was ‘losing his s**t.’

‘You know that episode of SpongeBob where they go inside his brain and it’s a bunch of mini spongebobs just losing their s**t…..yea that one really hits home,’ Ian tweeted five days before his took his life.

The DJ – who performed under the stage name desduné – added, in a separate message: ‘I don’t think instagram is healthy for me.’

In addition to his upcoming shows, Ian just released a new single, ‘Green Eyes,’ on January 7.

On Instagram a week ago, King shared a clip of the track urging her followers to check it out.

‘Now listening to ‘Green Eyes,” the actress wrote. ‘Desduné said he’d quit smoking if he gets a million streams….Maaaan Listen…I got this jam on repeat!’

King shared a close bond with her son who often accompanied her to events and called her ‘super mom’ at the 2019 Golden Globes.

Speaking about his famous mother previously, Ian said: ‘She’s just a super mom…

‘She doesn’t really let bad work days or anything come back and ruin the time that we have. It’s really awesome to have a mother who I can enjoy spending time with.’

Kim Kardashian plugs SKIMS as a smiling Pete Davidson leaves her hotel after ‘spending the night’

Kim Kardashian rocks caramel crimped hair to plug SKIMS… while smiling Pete Davidson leaves her hotel after ‘spending the night’

Kim Kardashian was back to business as usual, after yet another weekend rendezvous with Pete Davidson.

On Monday the 41-year-old billionaire entrepreneur took to Instagram to plug a SKIMS  bodysuit as she shared an image featuring her with caramel crimped hair.

In line with the adage ‘time is money,’ her post came as the 28-year-old SNL funnyman was seen exiting her hotel after ‘spending the night.’

Working woman: The billionaire business woman was all work as she plugged a SKIMS bodysuit ahead of Christmas while boy toy Pete Davidson was en route out of her hotel after ‘spending the night’

In the image Kim modeled a nude catsuit which highlighted her famed curves, and draped a trench coat stylistically on one shoulder.

The minimalist shoot used cinderblocks as the backdrop, and featured an additional model rocking a strapless ‘All-In-One’ bodysuit in a different shade.

Switching up her signature brown locks, the KKW Beauty founder showed off caramel crimped hair with lots of body.

She flashed a deadpan expression while embodying a mannequin-like pose and teased of the latest SKIMS drop: ‘One and done: this is shapewear you can wear everywhere.’

Afterglow? After reportedly shacking up with Kim for the evening, it appears as if they spent the whole day together as Pete was seen leaving come nightfall on Monday

Fun night? The 28-year-old Saturday Night Live funnyman was pictured leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in Tribeca, as she appeared to swap her usual uptown Ritz Carlton hotel for a location in closer proximity to his native Staten Island

Kim — who recently passed the baby bar exam — proved the hustle never stops as she continued on with her Monday grind following an action packed weekend with Pete.

The King Of Staten island star was pictured exiting the Four Seasons Hotel in Tribeca come nightfall on Monday, after reportedly spending the night.

He flashed a cheesy grin while rocking a pair of joggers and a green T-shirt with a cozy fleece, and puffed on a joint while walking to a waiting SUV.

On Saturday evening, the duo enjoyed dinner and a movie with tag-a-long pal Scott Disick as they were pictured entering the Atrium Stadium Cinemas in Staten Island followed by dinner at Angelina’s Ristorante.

Dinner and a movie: The hot new duo enjoyed a date at Angelina’s Ristorante in Staten Island after the movies on Saturday evening

Whirlwind weekend: After the pair were snapped entering the Staten Island cinema, it was additionally reported that she had met Pete’s mom Amy  for ‘several hours’ while in his native borough where things were said to have gone ‘really well’

It was also reported that Kim met the most important woman in Pete’s life — his mom Amy — during her trip to New York City.

A source told HollywoodLife.com that they spent ‘several hours’ together and that it ‘went really well.’

And it seems as if the family love goes both ways, as the Kardashian-Jenner clan are ‘excited’ to spend more time with Pete and are both ‘a fan’ of him and the budding relationship.

Currently the hot new duo are looking towards the holidays, where Kim is said to have invited him to the Kardashian Christmas party, though estranged husband Kanye West may also be in attendance.

Additionally she is weighing spending New Year’s Eve in Miami with him: ‘Kim and Pete have many upcoming plans and things are going really well. She has even considered going to support him in Miami for New Year’s. He has told her he’d love for her to be there,’ and E! source said.

Queen of Staten Island! The first time Kim had made a trek to Pete’s native borough was on November 2 (pictured above) where he wooed her with a romantic candle lit dinner at his go-to spot Campania
