Cirkus Opening Day Box Office: Ranveer Singh & Rohit Shetty film sells 3 lakh tickets; Collects Rs 6.25 crore

The Rohit Shetty comedy, Cirkus, fronted by Ranveer Singh has taken a slow start at the box office in India. The comedy of errors clocked a low occupancy in cinema halls through out the day as estimates indicate first day collection in the range of Rs 6.25 to 6.50 crore. Cirkus released with over 10,000 shows on its opening day and clocked a low occupancy of 12 percent through the day, which is much below the conversative expectations too. A film of this scale was expected to clock a start of Rs 15 crore, but there are times when the big films don’t live onto the expectations. This is one of those.

Cirkus takes a low start

The three national chains – PVR, Inox & Cinepolis – have collected around Rs 3.20 crore, contributing approx. 50 percent to the total business. While PVR scored a nett total of Rs 1.50 crore, the two other chains, Inox & Cinepolis, have collected approx. Rs 1.70 crore. The biggest surprise has come from the Gujarat belt, as the numbers from this belt has been a shocker as Rohit Shetty films have conventionally done well in Gujarat, and the market is also known to score big for comedy films. Mumbai circuit too has been a major let down for this Rohit Shetty film, as the bulk of the audience in this belt is venturing out for Avatar: The Way of Water on the big screen.

The film needs to see huge jumps on Saturday and Sunday to somehow salvage the scenario after such a low start, and the route ahead does seem a little difficult given the opening and the word of mouth.

The pricing was at blockbuster level, and hence, the footfalls are even lower than what the numbers indicate. The film has released in the festive week of Christmas, and it remains to be seen if it can get some holiday benefit through its run or not. Over the year, the lucrative festive window of Eid, Independence Day and Diwali has been disastrous for Hindi films and the start of Cirkus indicates a dull Christmas too. The dull start also indicates that the trailer of Cirkus didn’t create any sort of excitement among the audience, as a Rohit Shetty comedy with Ranveer Singh and the entire ensemble definitely warranted a much bigger start on just the face value.

Will Cirkus show upward trend on Saturday & Sunday?

While the fate won’t change from hereon, the jump in numbers on Saturday and Sunday, followed up by a Monday equal to Friday might give Cirkus a shot at recording some facing saving numbers, though that looks unlikely as the on-ground report about the content is not up-to the mark. The film has sold around 3 lakh tickets on it’s opening day across the country. Cirkus is proving out to be one of those rare failures of Rohit Shetty, and this has also given a chance to all those hiding in the closets since last 15 years waiting for the man to fail to come out and vent their thoughts. But it’s certain that he will bounce back stronger with Singham Again. Biggest of the director’s have seen failures in their career, and its always a part and parcel of every filmmaker’s journey.

As far as Ranveer Singh is concerned, the actor is all set to be seen next in the Karan Johar directed, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which pairs him alongside Alia Bhatt. The film rides on a formidable ensemble of Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi among others. As far as Singham Again is concerned, the film is expected to go on floors in April with a start to finish schedule at multiple locations. It is led by Ajay Devgn, and as informed by Rohit Shetty before, will also feature Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in key roles.

As far as second day biz of Cirkus is concerned, the film is seeing a nominal jump at the box office in the morning shows and its the trend towards noon and evening that will tell us where the film is headed on it’s second day.

Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more update on the box office reporting of Cirkus.

777 Charlie review: An adorable canine star steals hearts in this Rakshit Shetty movie

777 Charlie movie cast: Rakshit Shetty, Raj B. Shetty
777 Charlie movie director: Kiranraj K
777 Charlie movie rating: 3 stars

If you have or ever had a dog in your life, you can’t help but be biased towards 777 Charlie. The latest film starring Kannada movie star Rakshit Shetty is about a reclusive man, who finds his redemption in a four-legged princess named Charlie.

If you had or have a dog, you know the term ‘pet’ is an understatement to describe your relationship with the animal. It is your family. And 777 Charlie evokes just the right emotions as you watch some of the naughty stunts that Charlie pulls off without thinking twice about the consequences. Because Charlie knows that there is Dharma (Rakshit Shetty) behind it to scoop up its mess.

Dharma lives a life that is not enviable at all. He’s utterly unapproachable, unpresentable and uncompromising when it comes to shutting the doors on people who seek his companionship. His house is nothing but a pile of trash. The mess doesn’t affect Dharma, because he seems incapable of feeling anything. He lost his parents and a younger sister in a car accident at a very young age. He has grown up to become a bitter man. He’s full of contradiction. He’s a fan of Charlie Chaplin but he never smiles. He’s an exemplary worker, who lives an unpleasant life. He’s good at heart but never really cares about anybody. His bark is worse than his bite.

But, Dharma’s life changes when Charlie escapes its abusive owner and wanders straight into his life. Charlie sees something in Dharma that he himself doesn’t see in him. Charlie adopts Dharma as its parent and adds some life to his existence. The two outcasts, who have been dealt a bad hand by life, find a saviour in each other. And they both set out on a journey of self-discovery.

Charlie is the heart and soul of the film. And this canine actor has delivered some of the most adorable and feel-good moments that we have seen in a long time. Every wide-eyed gaze, every hug and every other funny reaction are so full of charms. Rakshit Shetty plays a supporting role to Charlie; he, as a fellow actor, understands and respects the fact that this film belongs to the canine star.

Director Kiranraj K has bathed the world of Charlie in hues of soft and warm blue light filling each frame with a sense of calmness. The colour palette mimics the weather of Bengaluru in monsoon and thus assumes a dream-like quality. Composer Nobin Paul’s tunes blend seamlessly with the vision of Kiranraj, enhancing the feel-good elements in the movie.

Chaos, unrelenting violence, and slaughter by guns of all shapes and sizes have mostly formed our core movie experience this year so far. The mantra this year has been — the bigger the guns, the bigger the destruction, the bigger the success at the box office. And the makers of 777 Charlie deserve a pat on the back for believing that people would still respond to movies that offer a quieter experience of self-reflection about the absurdity of life.

Vicky Kaushal-Katrina Kaif wedding: ‘Sooryavanshi’ maker Rohit Shetty won’t attend – here’s why – Exclusive! | Hindi Movie News

That Rohit Shetty is a workaholic is known. The man who recently delivered the blockbuster ‘Sooryavanshi’ has obviously been invited to the Katrina Kaif-Vicky Kaushal wedding, but the latest we hear is that he is not going for it. Reason? He is already in Ooty on the sets of his next directorial ‘Cirkus’ starring Ranveer Singh. The production of the film is being jointly done by Rohit Shetty Picturez, T-Series, and Reliance Entertainment.

Rohit’s team left around November 30 and now he, too, has reached the shoot site. A source says, “It’s about a 10-12 day schedule in Ooty. Rohit had earmarked every single detail to commence in this schedule much before; he is one of those who will never throw things out of gear”.

That Katrina, who worked with Rohit in ‘Sooryavanshi’ starring Akshay Kumar, must be disappointed over Rohit not being able to make it, is obvious. The film which hit theatres on November 5 is now about to touch the Rs 200 crore mark.

Who knows, a lot of guests who were earlier supposed to make it might not be a part of the celebrations in Jaipur due to the fear of the Omicron outbreak.

We, at ETimes, wish Katrina and Vicky a very happy wedding in advance and a long, happy married life.

Highlights

  • Shamita Shetty had a fight with Abhijit Bichukale
  • Salman schooled Shamita for her behaviour
  • Raveena Tandon appeared as a guest on the episode

New Delhi:

Salman Khan had a no-nonsense approach to the contestants on Bigg Boss 15 during Saturday’s episode of Weekend Ka Vaar. And on the receiving end of his anger and comments was actress Shamita Shetty who was seen getting into a series of fights with housemates during the week. In particular, Shamita Shetty was at loggerheads with contestants Abhijit Bichukale and Devoleena Bhattacharjee. And, these fights also extended to Weekend Ka Vaar, much to Salman Khan’s anger. It all started when actress Raveena Tandon appeared for a task and asked contestants to name a gunehgaar (culprit) inside the Big Boss house.

And soon enough, Abhijit Bichukale was named by Rashami Desai. Speaking about Abhijit, Rashami said, “Inhone do baar Shamita Shetty ko pair ki jooti bataya hai aur ye baat mujhe chubhi hai (He has compared Shamita Shetty to his footwear twice and this has affected me).”  To this, Shamita Shetty said, “He called me pair ki jooti (footwear)”? Adding “Kaun hai ye aadmi (Who is this man)?”  She also said that Abhijit compared her to a dog.

While Salman Khan confirmed that he did not call her any such thing, Shamita reiterated, “But he has called me pair ki jooti.” An enraged Shamita Shetty continued, “Why is he here?” This did not go down well with Salman Khan, who said, “Will you become one if he is calling you names? You just said ‘why is he here?’ That is not correct Shamita. Laanat hai (shame on you).”

Continuing to school Shamita Shetty, Salman Khan said, “Apne jo usko provoke kiya wo aapko nahi dikh raha hai (Can’t you see how you are provoking him as well)?”
