Australian actress who went missing in LA after an online date has been ARRESTED in Santa Monica

An Australian actress who was feared missing by her family because didn’t call she after a first date has in fact spent the last four days in a jail cell, DailyMail.com can reveal today.

Laura McCulloch, 37,  had told her family she was meeting up with a man from a dating app, and even sent them a picture of her outfit before leaving on August 12.

But after she didn’t show up to work, yoga class and her other regular commitments, her family raised the alarm and sparked an online manhunt for the actress.

They said that she was last seen at trendy Japanese chain-restaurant Gyu-Kaku in Los Angeles and was due to meet someone she contacted on ‘Bumble or Tinder’.

DailyMail.com can now reveal that she had been locked up in a prison cell after allegedly throwing a drink at another customer and resisting cops – biting one on the shoulder.

Santa Monica police have confirmed that McCulloch was arrested on Friday, shortly before her family raised the alarm that she had apparently vanished.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department she is being held on a felony charge, with a $25,000 bond.

Officers were called to reports of McCulloch throwing a drink at a fellow restaurant goer and their two-year-old child.

McCulloch was reportedly showing ‘obvious signs of intoxication’ while shouting at the officers and ‘charging’ at them.

DailyMail.com can reveal that she was in fact arrested, and her family were unaware of the situation after launching a missing persons appeal after she went to meet a man on a dating app and failed to contact them

An arrest report claims that McCulloch’ charged the at the officers while yelling expletives’ after the police were called to the scene. She had been due to meet someone for a date at a Japanese restaurant in LA, arranged on either ‘ Bumble or Tinder ‘ on Friday August 12

Her family, who launched a missing persons appeal on social media, were unaware that she had been arrested when contacted by DailyMail.com.

McCulloch was pictured in her mugshot wearing the same top that she wore to her date, which her sister shared on social media.

In a statement the Santa Monica Police Department said: ‘On Friday, August 12, 2022 at approximately 8:30pm Santa Monica Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Arizona for what was reported as a battery.

‘According the reporting party, a female, later identified as Laura McCulloch, threw a drink at a restaurant patron and their 2-year-old child.

‘Upon arrival, officers contacted Ms. McCulloch who showed obvious signs of intoxication.

‘While conducting the investigation, McCulloch charged the at the officers while yelling expletives.

‘Despite efforts to calm her, McCulloch continued to display aggressive behaviors. During efforts to detain her, she became physically combative, kicked at officers and bit one officer on the shoulder.

‘Laura McCulloch, 37 years old from Australia, was arrested, transported to the Santa Monica Jail and booked for public intoxication and resisting arrest.’

Her friends and family started their own missing person search, claiming that the LAPD did not yet consider her a missing person case when contacted

Who is Australian actress Laura McCulloch?

Her only screen credit in 2022 is an indie short film called ‘Covid Support Group’ directed by American filmmaker Abigail Bogle.

In March 2021 she played Madame Le Farge in an American stage version of A Tale of Two Cities at Bob Jones University in South Carolina.

The actress is understood to be at Los Angeles County Superior Court, and will be dealt with accordingly.

Her cousin Merrie McCulloch told DailyMail.com: ‘Yes, I can confirm she’s in safe hands and have also been asked to please help update media with the information that she’s been located, and thank you for your support.

‘It’s all very slim details at the moment but until we ascertain Laura’s current state and what her wishes are going forward in terms of media coverage we are just scaling back for now and focusing on her well-being.’

Her sister Clare posted on Instagram saying: ‘She has been found safe and well.

‘The family want to thank everyone for your help and support in what has been a traumatic time.’

Her friends and family started their own missing person search, claiming that the LAPD did not yet consider her a missing person case.

The family has also claimed that the Santa Monica restaurant – Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ – where she had arranged to meet her date, had refused to release any security footage without a police order.

A staff member at the restaurant claims that the incident took place outside of the property, and no one inside contacted the police.

Frustrated at the lack of help from LA investigators the family has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for a private detective – which has currently raised $1,000 AUD.

The page updated those looking for the actress, saying she had been found, adding: ‘According to multiple sources in the US, Laura has been successfully located!

‘At this current stage we are unable to confirm what state she is in, and if any further financial support is needed, but I will do my best to provide an update as soon as it is available.

God of War Ragnarok Dev Sony Santa Monica Demands Respect After Unsavoury Week

According to reliable but ultimately second hand sources, God of War Ragnarok was due to be dated for PS5 and PS4 this week. Reports corroborated by multiple noteworthy journalists suggest Sony had a PS Blog post lined up, with details on Collector’s Editions, pre-orders, and development progress ready to roll. After a change of plan was pre-empted by the previous entry’s director Cory Barlog, however, all hell broke loose.

Things turned particularly sour when it emerged that some unscrupulous “fans” had been sending penis pictures to employees in “exchange” for the release date. Ultimately, it’s all resulted in a strong statement from creator Sony Santa Monica demanding respect.

“Every single person at Santa Monica Studio is working to create game that we’re proud of, one that we hope you will enjoy playing once released,” it reads. “Our fans inspire us, and we understand the passion and desire for more information. But that passion should not be toxic nor come at the expense of any human being’s dignity. Let’s celebrate our community by treating each other, every gamer and developer alike, with respect.”

It shouldn’t be too difficult, should it?

Santa Clara County’s Health Officer

Santa Clara County’s top health official warned on Tuesday that COVID case counts and hospitalizations are on the upswing and urged everyone to consider wearing masks in high-risk settings, keep a stockpile of tests and exercise caution when socializing indoors.

“The pandemic is still here,” said Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody. ” It is time to break out your mask and break out your tests and just be a bit more cautious than you were a month ago.”

Santa Clara County is currently experiencing a weekly average of 552 cases — just slightly higher than the number of cases during the peak of the Delta wave that hit in summer 2021. The cases are being driven by two cousins of the BA.1 omicron strain that caused a major surge during winter, which are currently dominant across the rest of the country.

Cody’s announcement did not include any public health mandates — and she did not offer any benchmarks as to when and if the county would impose any. But Cody did leave open the door for some tightening of rules.

“I would say that at this point in the pandemic, no one wants to issue restrictions,” she said. “At the same time, we also know that we have to think about the whole community and particularly people who are more vulnerable and need restrictions to protect them. What I want to happen is for everyone to just understand where we are. And to understand that they are at risk because we’ve got a lot of virus circulating now. And it’s on its way up.”

The county is also hovering between 80 to 100 people currently hospitalized with COVID — an increase from mid-to-late April when there were between 65 and 75 people hospitalized. Cody said Tuesday that she expects these numbers to increase. Deaths from COVID in the county are on a downward trend, however, that metric tends to rise after cases peak.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Cody also encouraged unvaccinated people to get a shot and urged those who are eligible for their second booster shot to get one, which includes older and immunocompromised individuals. The health officer noted that there hasn’t been a ton of demand for the second booster. Within the county, 29 percent of those 65 and up have received a second booster, while just 15 percent of those between 50 to 64 have received one.

Other counties in the Bay Area on Tuesday were also keeping an eye on the steady rise in COVID cases.

At the Alameda County Board of Supervisors meeting, Health Officer Dr. Nicholas Moss said that his department has no plans for upcoming public health mandates. However, if hospitalizations keep rising and widespread “long” COVID symptoms reappear, Moss said a mask mandate would likely come back.

San Mateo, Contra Costa, Marin and San Francisco counties have no current plans for a mask requirement, according to their health departments.

In response to the increased case counts, San Jose has chosen to reinstate a mask mandate for its employees through May 20,  “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a city spokesperson. BART is also requiring masks for passengers through mid-July.

Local outbreaks are also starting to crop up in the region. Last week, at least 60 Los Gatos High School students tested positive for COVID over a 14-day period. Days before, the San Francisco Giants announced it would be limiting access to its clubhouse after several players tested positive for the virus.

2 Century High School baseball players shot in Santa Ana, 1 fatally, prompting search for suspect

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) — Two cousins identified as student-athletes on Santa Ana’s Century High School baseball team were shot Thursday night, one fatally, prompting a search for the shooter, authorities said.

The two victims were sitting in a car shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Minnie Street in Santa Ana when the suspect approached them on foot and opened fire, according to police.

Officers arrived at the scene in an alley and found a man unresponsive, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso, the Santa Ana Police Department said in a statement. Another man was found with an upper-body gunshot wound.

Orange County firefighter-paramedics transported both victims to a hospital.

Roberto Izelo, 18, was pronounced dead at the medical center, police said, citing the Orange County coroner’s office. His 19-year-old cousin, whose name was not released, was listed in stable condition.

Authorities initially identified Izelo and his cousin as 19 and 18 years old, respectively.

“The circumstances or motive surrounding the shooting are currently being investigated,” the Police Department said, adding that detectives were investigating the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.

A detailed description of the suspect was not available, but a brief video clip was released that investigators said showed the person being sought. The footage showed a person in dark-colored clothing, including a hooded sweater or jacket, walking in a parking lot.

“The SAUSD community is deeply saddened by the death of a student at Century High School,” the Santa Ana Unified School District said in a statement, adding that the deceased student was a senior.

“We offer our most sincere condolences to the student’s family,” the statement said. “Crisis counselors have also been sent to support any students and staff at the school dealing with this loss.

“Our thoughts are with the Century High School community, and we ask that you kindly respect the privacy of the family and school.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Santa Ana police homicide detectives at (714) 245-8390, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS. The case is eligible for the Gang Reward Program, police said.

Family of victim in ‘Rust’ shooting demands Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office remove graphic video of her dying after being fatally injured, attorney letter says

Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer, was killed and director Joel Souza was injured when a gun being handled by actor Alec Baldwin went off while they were rehearsing a scene at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico in October.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office released several files Monday from its ongoing investigation into the shooting, including photos, recordings and reports, officials said. Video of Hutchins dying is included in the data released.

In the letter to the sheriff’s office, Brian Panish, an attorney for the Hutchins family, said the release of the evidence has caused “irreparable” damage to her husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son.

“Your office trampled on the constitutional rights of the Hutchins,” the letter, dated April 27, reads. “Without any discussion, your office unilaterally determined that Mr. Hutchins would be given access to the materials to review early in the morning on Monday, April 25 before being released to the public later in the afternoon giving him less than a business day to review the materials.”

Due to the “sheer volume of material,” that was “a wholly inadequate amount of time,” and the family wasn’t given the opportunity “to request that discretion be exercised, and sensitive material be redacted,” Panish wrote.

On top of that, the letter said, the sheriff’s office did not redact Hutchins’ private and personal information. Panish wrote his client fears video of his wife’s final moments could be used by bullies to emotionally abuse their son.

The letter demands the sheriff’s office respect the Hutchins family’s “constitutional rights of dignity, privacy, respect, and fairness going forward,” and the office take down footage of Hutchins “dying on the church floor.”

“While the damage of publishing the video is irreparable, taking down the video will end your office’s complicity in causing further harm,” the letter reads.

CNN has reached out to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office to confirm receipt of the letter and additional comment.

During an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Wednesday, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza defended releasing the material. “We’re in response to a public records request, where we’re required to release the information, and it was also an effort to be transparent in the investigation,” Mendoza said.

The investigation is “nearing completion” he told ABC, adding his office is waiting on FBI analysis of munitions, latent prints, DNA, a report from the medical examiner, and some cell phone data analysis. His office is hoping this will wrap up in “weeks and not months,” he told GMA.

Released evidence includes ‘concerning texts,’ sheriff says

The evidence files released by the sheriff’s office also contained text messages “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed shared with an ammunition supplier for a previous film in 2021 — not “Rust” — where she stated she planned on shooting live ammunition while on set.

Mendoza called the text messages “concerning” during an interview with NBC’s “Today” on Tuesday and said investigators are looking into who brought live ammunition to the “Rust” set.

“Right now, no one has come forward and admitted to bringing the live rounds onto the movie set. There was information from text messages that was concerning based on the fact that live ammo was spoken about and was possibly used on a prior movie set and that was just a few months before the ‘Rust’ movie set production began, so that is concerning,” Mendoza said.

A law enforcement official told CNN they consider the text exchange important as they try to determine whether the armorer made a practice of conducting live fire exercises at the same time she was responsible for safety on sets.

Gutierrez Reed’s attorney Jason Bowles told CNN his client wanted to fire the gun to understand how the historical weapon worked and maintains she didn’t fire live rounds on set.

CNN’s Cheri Mossburg, Josh Campbell and Stella Chan contributed to this report.

U.S.P.S. Stops Mail to Santa Monica Block After ‘Assaults’

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — When their mail stopped arriving about a week ago, residents on a neat block near the beach on the west side of Los Angeles County were perplexed.

At first, said Charlotte Jay, “I just thought I hadn’t got any.” A day or so passed. She was expecting a certified letter. Then a neighbor tipped her off: Their mail was suspended.

Ms. Jay added, “I was like: ‘What?’”

The disruption had been explained in a letter from the United States Postal Service, but some residents said they had not initially received or seen it.

According to the note, delivery service had been halted to “all addresses located on the 1300 block of 14th Street” following multiple “assaults and threats of assault” against postal workers by a person in the neighborhood.

“The safety of our employees and the mail they deliver to you is our highest concern,” the letter said, adding that until service was resumed, residents could collect their mail at a nearby post office.

“The entire block? It’s an extreme measure,” Ms. Jay, a stock trader, said Tuesday afternoon outside her apartment, where she had just returned from a walk with her brown terrier mix.

She added: “I was shocked, and I was angry.”

Service to the area resumed on Tuesday, but the episode has left lingering questions of residents’ expectation of mail delivery, one of the few remaining constants in a world upended (and hastened to anger) by the coronavirus pandemic. It has also brought into focus the right to safety for postal workers who, like other essential workers, have battled through the past two years, hand delivering the nation’s letters, bills and paychecks, day in and out.

The police confirmed that on Jan. 19, a man assaulted a mail carrier in Santa Monica with a broomstick.

“The victim sustained a minor injury to his arm and did not require medical attention,” the Santa Monica Police Department said in a statement.

Though the Postal Service has cited episodes involving “three separate letter carriers” in Santa Monica, the police said that they had received information about only one attack.

A suspect was arrested and charged in the Jan. 19 assault, the police said, but those charges were later dropped after the victim decided not to proceed. That same suspect was arrested on April 6 on unrelated charges of “misdemeanor vandalism and possession of drug paraphernalia,” the police said.

The police said authorities were trying to locate other postal workers who may have been victims as part of their continuing investigation.

“It’s unfortunate that these three carriers experienced this,” Natashi Garvins, a spokeswoman for the Postal Service said by phone on Wednesday. The service, she added, can and does occasionally suspend mail delivery — though she said she could not provide numbers or say whether any had been made previously in response to attacks on mail carriers.

“It could occur for various reasons,” Ms. Garvins said, adding that the Postal Service would always attempt to provide alternative means for people to collect their mail.

In the case of Santa Monica, she added, the service had decided to cancel the mail to the entire block because the person responsible for the three episodes “could be anywhere” in the area.

Harassment of mail carriers, however, does not appear to be isolated.

In New York, the police began an investigation last June after a mail carrier was attacked by two people on his route in Brooklyn. In Providence, R.I., a federal grand jury indicted a man in January on charges that he had attacked and robbed a postal worker in September. In Arizona, a man assaulted a postal worker in May after she requested that he provide his identification.

Marjon Barrigan Husted, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Inspector, said on Wednesday that she was unaware of any recent increases in such episodes in Los Angeles.

The American Postal Workers’ Union and the National Association of Letter Carriers did not immediately return requests for comment.

Some residents said they were familiar with the person they believe had attacked the postal workers. They described him as transient and erratic. One man, a valet worker who asked not to be named to protect his safety, said that he had seen the man wielding a golf club at a postal worker. Another said that after the Jan. 19 attack, his regular mail carrier had suddenly vanished.

Cori Newman, 49, a manager at a local restaurant, said that the person in question had approached her several times at work, as well as after hours in the neighboring car park.

“I lived in Santa Monica a long time ago as a child and never felt it was dangerous ever before,” Ms. Newman said. Now, she said, she keeps a baseball bat and pepper spray behind the bar. “If I have to use it,’’ she said, “I have to use it.”

Others, however, said that, aside from the recent episodes, the neighborhood was largely peaceful. “I just think it’s sad,” said Jim Price, 55.

“This is Santa Monica,” he added. “It’s safe; it’s a nice city seaside community.”

Chick-fil-A may be declared a ‘public nuisance’ by the city of Santa Barbara due to drive-thru lines

California officials are close to declaring a busy Chick-fil-A a ‘public nuisance’ due to traffic safety concerns caused by the restaurant’s long drive-thru lines.

Earlier this month the Santa Barbara City Council debated what to do about a Chick-fil-A located at 3707 State Street that has caused a headache for local business owners and residents.

City officials said they have been in talks with the location’s store operator for years after complaints of ridiculously long lines of vehicles lining up for the restaurant’s famous chicken-centric menu items.

Earlier this month the Santa Barbara City Council debated what to do about a Chick-fil-A located at 3707 State Street (pictured) that has caused a headache for local business owners

A city council report said during the week the fast food restaurant’s drive-though line blocks an entire lane of traffic for up to 90 minutes at its peak

The queues of vehicles have blocked everything from driveway entrances of nearby businesses, bicycle lanes, and the sidewalk, a public planning report said.

The long lines have even forced city buses and emergency vehicles to detour to avoid the busy area and

According to a city council report, during the week the fast food restaurant’s drive-though line blocks an entire lane of traffic for up to 90 minutes at its peak and on Saturdays for up to 155 minutes.

‘The city’s traffic engineer, police chief and community development director have evaluated the situation and believe that the persistent traffic back-up onto State Street is a public nuisance and that the nuisance is caused by the operation of a drive-through at the Chick-fil-A restaurant,’ the report said.

At the March 1 meeting, councilmembers said they personally witnessed near accidents caused by the long lines and that they shouldn’t wait for an actual accident to act, the Santa Barbara News-Press reported.

The queues of vehicles have blocked everything from driveway entrances of nearby businesses, bicycle lanes, and the sidewalk, a public planning report said

At a council meeting on March 1, councilwoman Kristen Sneddon suggested that the restaurant has gotten too big for it’s current site and it was no longer realistic for it to operate there

‘People do not have to die because of a traffic accident before you declare it a public nuisance, Assistant city attorney Dan Hentschke said.

Councilwoman Kristen Sneddon suggested that the restaurant has gotten too big for it’s current site and it was no longer realistic for it to operate there.

‘This is not about the goodness of the company or the goodness of the owners and certainly not about the goodness of the employees,’ she said. ‘Chick-fil-A has a good problem here. They are so successful, they have outgrown their site. It’s possible they were oversized for that site, to begin with.’

At the meeting, Chick-fil-A representatives presented a plan to councilmembers aimed at addressing their concerns.

Travis Collins, the owner and operator of the restaurant, pointed out the lines have decreased in recent months,  but vowed to deal with the queues, rearrange parking spaces and add a forced right turn exit out of the restaurant.

‘On behalf of myself, Chick-fil-A and the many team members, we sincerely regret that this traffic situation has come to this point and heartily wish to work in good faith with the city to resolve this matter once and for all,’ Collins said. ‘We believe we do have solutions, several of them.’

But Sneddon expressed doubts that the highly popular restaurant could truly manage the influx of customers who are willing to wait hours for a meal.

‘There’s a tolerance of the patrons of Chick-fil-A for how far back they’re willing to queue,’ she said.

The city council has planned a public hearing for June 7 where they will decide whether or not to declare the restaurant a public nuisance.

The possibly of the city’s only Chick-Fil-A being declared a public nuisance has garnered mixed reactions online.

‘Unbelievable what these woke cities come up with. The city of Santa Barbara, California, is considering declaring a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the city a public nuisance because of the traffic it creates with its drive-thru lanes,’ one person tweeted.

Another person applauded city council for taking action, tweeting: ‘Good for the city of Santa Barbara for taking a deeper look at this issue. Some restaurant chains essentially turn the roads leading to their stores into proprietary queues. Essentially capturing public space for private enterprise.’

‘Santa Barbara State Street is littered with homeless encampments and open air drug emporiums but they want to charge Chick-fil-A as a public nuisance?’ someone else tweeted.
