Jeremy Renner accident – latest: Marvel star still in critical condition as Mark Ruffalo asks fans to pray for him

Jeremy Renner in ‘critical but stable’ condition after ‘weather-related’ accident

Actor Jeremy Renner has undergone two surgeries at a Nevada hospital after suffering serious injuries in a snow-ploughing accident.

The Hurt Locker star is reportedly “conscious, stable and speaking” and underwent the surgeries as part of his “long road to recovery”, according to Extra.

Renner has been listed as being in critical but stable condition following the snowplough accident in Nevada over the weekend.

“We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today (2 January),” Renner’s family said in a statement. “He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.”

New details are emerging with TMZ reporting that Renner was ploughing the road around a quarter mile from his Nevada home to get his family out after a snowstorm on New Year’s Eve.

The plough, a Snowcat, accidentally ran over one of the actor’s legs, despite a large array of safety features, leading to major blood loss, a neighbour said according to the outlet.

Another neighbour, a doctor, put a tourniquet on Mr Renner’s legs until the arrival of paramedics. Police arrived at the scene around 8pm on Sunday night, impounding the Snowcat, which the actor has shown himself using on social media.

In their statement, Renner’s family thanked the “Carano and Murdock families”.

Mark Ruffalo Defends Marvel’s Output With a Side-Eye at Star Wars

Image: Marvel Studios

While on a press tour for She-Hulk, Mark Ruffalo spoke with Metro about Marvel’s use of VFX and the enormity of the output from the studio. While he had only glowing praise for the leaps and bounds that CGI has taken over the past decade or so that he’s been involved with Marvel, he had some stronger feelings about the amount of “content” that Marvel puts out.

Ruffalo said that he’s not worried about the amount of work that Marvel releases. “I understand that these things run their course and then something else comes along. But the thing Marvel has done well is that, inside the MCU, just as they do with comic books, they let a director or an actor sort of recreate each piece to their own style, their likeness.”

A bold claim, considering that even as Marvel attempts to make in-roads into other genres with its work, there’s an overriding same-y tone and need for connection that sometimes frustratingly overrides that. And considering the new allegations about how Marvel films their movies, I don’t think that this is a very strong argument at all. Visual flair is well and good, but if you’re just offering variations on a theme is it really distinct?

Next, Ruffalo continues to dig his grave deeper by poking at the other big franchise that might be able to compete with Marvel’s output–fellow Disney megafranchise Star Wars. “If you watch a Star Wars, you’re pretty much going to get the same version of Star Wars each time… You’re always, really, in that same kind of world. But with Marvel you can have a whole different feeling even within the Marvel Universe.”

The thing is that part of me agrees with him: Star Wars does reuse the same stories and tropes, and seems to have an affinity for desert planets that I cannot truly comprehend, but to compare Marvel and Star Wars and act as if either one is superior to the other on an artistic basis of originality feels like a little bit of throwing stones in glass houses at this point. You’re playing the Hulk, sir, a character that has been adapted in largely similar ways out of the comics ever since Lou Ferrigno’s television Hulk first began airing in 1977, the same year the first Star Wars film released in theaters.

I’m not here to debate the artistic merits of Marvel vs. Star Wars, but to pretend for even a second like directors get more or less control within competing billion-dollar franchises is a fool’s errand. An aside here, but as soon as we start referring to any kind of art (even blockbuster movies) as “content” I feel as if we lose something, culturally speaking. Content feels clinical, it feels transactional in a way that makes me uncomfortable. I don’t want content, I want considerate, thoughtful work. I want people to know that this is handmade stuff, that this is done by real people doing real work. There is no such thing as Marvel content, but there is art, and if we treated these massive cultural moments with respect maybe we’d be able to change the culture.

So look, regardless of your feelings about the amount of work that any individual studio puts out, the fact that any actor is being asked to defend it might be a hint that there is, perhaps, too much out there—regardless of what fictional universe it’s from.

HBO and Mark Ruffalo are sued over 2019 fire at filming location

HBO and Mark Ruffalo are sued over 2019 fire at upstate New York filming location for I Know This Much Is True: Neighbors say the production turned local car dealership into a ‘powder keg’ that ruined their home and exposed them to toxins

  • The dealership near Poughkeepsie blew up in May 2019 when the HBO miniseries starring Ruffalo was filming
  • Neighbors are now suing, claiming the production is to blame for the blast
  • They say HBO turned the site into a ‘powder keg’ by storing flammable materials at the dealership
  • As a result, they say the fire was made worse and it ruined their homes
  • They also claim they were exposed to toxins, carcinogens and that they remain traumatized
  • Ruffalo and HBO are being sued for an unspecified multimillion dollar figure

Mark Ruffalo and HBO are being sued over a 2019 fire at an upstate filming location for the miniseries I Know This Much Is True, claiming they turned an upstate car dealership into a powder keg with filming equipment that blew up, destroyed their houses.

The lawsuit was first reported by TMZ on Sunday.

People who lived next door to the dealership in Ellenville, near Poughkeepsie, say the fire not only ruined their homes but also exposed them to harmful toxins and carcinogens.

They are now seeking an unspecified settlement from Ruffalo and the network that TMZ says is in the millions.

The fire tore through the used car dealership in Ellenville, New York, in May 2019 and neighbors claim it destroyed their homes

Mark Ruffalo in the HBO miniseries I Know This Much Is True

Neither Ruffalo nor HBO has commented.

The production had been using the used car dealership for their miniseries for a month before the fire tore through it in May 2019.

Ruffalo starred in the series along with Rosie O’Donnell, but it’s unclear if she is named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

According to the neighbors, the production is to blame for the fire because it turned the dealership into a ‘powder keg’ by storing kerosene, heating oil and other flammable materials onsite.

It has been three years since the fire but the neighbors claim it is yet to be cleaned up.

In their lawsuit, they describe it as an ‘uncovered and unabated debris pile, toxin spill’ that exposes them to ‘ wind-driven dust and gaseous dispersion.’

The owners of the dealership previously sued Calling Grace Productions, the production company behind the series, for the fire.

It is unclear what the result of that lawsuit was, or if a cause for the fire was ever established.

Setting up a true coming-of-age story for Vellani’s heroine as she deals with school, family, and everyday teenager stuff, this series will be something new in the MCU’s growing legacy.

The first trailer quickly became the talk of the MCU community following its debut, particularly being the next project to debut after Moon Knight and Doctor Strange 2. After the trailer’s release, stars from all corners of the MCU shared their thoughts on what’s coming in the franchise’s 35th project since 2008.

Ms. Marvel Bringing Excitement for MCU in 2022

MCU fans and stars alike are always caught up in the excitement whenever a new trailer releases, which is no different from the current moment for Ms. Marvel. Even so, it’s thrilling to see the caliber of actors and filmmakers that are so excited to see this show come to fruition, particularly for the representation it will add to the franchise.

Seeing Brie Larson so thrilled for her The Marvels co-star is something special as fans get ready to see her and Iman Vellani play two of the sequel’s three powerful heroines. Now, the wait continues to see more of what Ms. Marvel will add to the MCU narrative as fans look forward to this young heroine’s true introduction. Her time around her high school classmates and her family will give fans a new taste of what it’s like to grow up in a world filled with superheroes, even with concerns about how her powers will translate.
