Al Roker Shocks Fans With Announcement That It’s ‘Time to Take a Break’ From Twitter

The ‘Today’ show weather anchor is providing his fans with alternate ways to keep in touch with him.

Al Roker is done with Twitter—at least for now.

The Today show weather anchor, 68, shared a parting message to the social media platform on Wednesday, Dec. 21, telling his followers that he’s taking a break from the site for the time being.

“Thank you Twitter. We had some great times but it’s time to take a break,” he wrote in his message, where he also provided alternate ways for his fans to connect with him, including Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.

While Roker didn’t clarify his reason for needing a break, the decision comes in the wake of Elon Musk‘s controversial takeover of the social networking site, which has prompted a slew of other celebrities to ditch their accounts as well.

On top of all the Musk drama, Roker has also been dealing with recent health complications, as he’s been absent from his normal spot on the Today show for over a month.

As Parade previously reported, the TV personality was recently hospitalized for blood clots found in his lungs and leg. The health scare caused him to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade—his first time not hosting the event in 27 years—as well as the annual lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

After going in and out of the hospital, Roker finally arrived home on Dec. 8, where he has been recovering and getting ready for the holidays with his family, including wife Deborah Roberts and two children, Leila, 24, and Nick, 20.

Earlier this week, he shared a photo of their giant Christmas tree, telling his Instagram followers that he is “so thankful to be well enough” to decorate the tree and ring in the holidays with his family this year.

‘Today’ Staff Surprises Al Roker As He Recovers at Home

Al Roker is feeling the love from his Today show family.

As we know, the weather anchor has been absent from his usual slot on the NBC News program following recent health issues and a stint in the hospital—but his colleagues won’t let him miss out on the action for too long.

While Roker, 68, is still recovering at home and hasn’t returned to Studio 1A just yet, dozens of staff members at the Today show decided to bring the broadcast to him instead.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, the entire staff, including Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, and tons more cast and crew members, showed up at Roker’s doorstep to sing him some Christmas carols and bring him some holiday cheer while he continues on his road to recovery.

In a video shared to Twitter, the Today show anchors are seen ringing the doorbell, before Roker opened the door and was overwhelmed with emotion to see all of the staffers who showed up to send him holiday greetings.

As the group broke out into “Jingle Bells,” Roker was seen getting very emotional, as his wife, Deborah Roberts—who helped organize the surprise—was also seen enjoying the cheerful moment.

“It’s impressive you did that without a prompter,” Roker wittily stated after the performance. But he quickly switched to a more serious note, telling the crowd of his colleagues, “I’ve missed you all so, so very much, all these faces.”

“It just means the world to me and to our family and my Deborah, who’s just been my rock. I thank you so much. I really appreciate it,” he added.

The staff even performed a second song, this time delivering a clever rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” which they switched to “Al Be Home for Christmas.”

“I love you more than you’ll ever know,” Roker told them.

Roker–who was initially hospitalized for complications from blood clots in his lungs and his leg—was forced to miss out on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting over his health scare, making a return to back with his Today family a very much needed reunion.

Roker later shared a post from the sweet moment to Instagram on Wednesday, writing, “Words cannot express how much I love my @todayshow family for coming over to do a little caroling including a special rendition of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas“

As Parade previously reported, Roker is looking forward to being back on the show, although he is currently considering getting a knee replacement next month, which could extend his absence.

For now, his colleagues at NBC at wishing Roker a speedy recovery as they await his return to the show.

Al Roker misses Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but is on the mend

CNN
 —

Al Roker missed his first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 27 years as he recovers from a health scare.

The famed “Today” meteorologist recently shared that he had been hospitalized after a blood clot in his leg traveled to his lungs.

“After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery,” Roker wrote on his verified Instagram account. “Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon.”

It kept Roker from his traditional co-hosting of the annual parade along with his “Today” colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

NBC meteorologist Dylan Dreyer filled in for Roker at the event on Thursday and fielded a call from President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, who inquired about how Roker was doing.

Dreyer told them her colleague is doing “great.”

TODAY family sends love to Al Roker after he shared he’s in the hospital

For those who’ve wondered why they haven’t seen Al Roker’s smiling face on TODAY recently, the weatherman-and-more has just revealed the reason for his absence.

On Friday, Nov. 18, he shared on Instagram that he’s currently in the hospital.

“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been,” he wrote. “Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs. After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery.”

He added a note of thanks “for all the well wishes and prayers” he’s received and said that he hoped to see everyone again soon.

That’s just what his TODAY family hopes for, too. Shortly after he shared the news with his followers on social media, his fellow anchors chimed in about the man they miss.

“He’s in good spirits,” Savanah Guthrie said on TODAY.

Dylan Dreyer offered some proof of that.

“Not that you need us to tell you how incredible Al is, the first time I called him, he immediately said, ‘Hey Dilly-Dill! How are the boys?'” she recalled. “That’s classic Al.”

And Carson Daly said, “We need him back,” as he raved about what an inspiration Al is to him every morning.

Savannah summed it up, saying, “We love you, Al. We miss you!”

Get well soon, Al!
