Cavs’ Ricky Rubio says his comeback ‘not just about today’

PORTLAND — More than a year after an ACL tear in December 2021 ended his previous season, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio returned to the court Thursday, helping the Cavaliers to a 119-113 come-from-behind win over the host Portland Trail Blazers.

Playing on a minutes limit, Rubio saw 10 minutes of action off the bench, scoring nine points on 3-of-5 shooting and grabbing three rebounds.

“It felt good,” Rubio said of his first game. “It felt weird in the beginning, especially the first time, but after that it felt back to normal. Of course rhythm and all that stuff will come, but today was a lot of emotions out there. Working hard all year just to be healthy and grateful to be out there playing basketball again.”

Rubio’s Cleveland teammates were equally excited to see him back on the court. He was a key part of the Cavaliers’ fast start last season, but was traded to the Indiana Pacers during his rehabilitation before returning to Cleveland as a free agent, citing the team’s chemistry as a reason to come back.

An offseason trade also reunited Rubio with Cavaliers newcomer Donovan Mitchell, his teammate for the first two seasons of Mitchell’s career with the Utah Jazz.

“I couldn’t stop smiling,” Mitchell said. “It felt like my rookie year. For me, it’s just a full-circle moment, but it’s great to see him out there after the ACL. And also, hitting two big 3s for us, leading the offense.”

Initially, Cleveland coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters he planned to play Rubio in two stints in the first half. Because Rubio was on the court fewer than six minutes total, Bickerstaff was able to bring him back for a third stretch in the third quarter.

Afterward, Rubio said he felt good physically because his cardio training has been more challenging than game action.

The Cavaliers have been cautious with the timetable for Rubio, who said he has been ready to play “for a long time.” He said he understands that long-term mindset for a team that improved to 27-16 with Thursday’s win, good for fourth in the Eastern Conference.

“I didn’t work just to come back today,” Rubio said. “I worked hard to come back stronger than ever. It’s not just about today. I’m looking forward to having a strong season, not just a comeback season.”

Still, Rubio could appreciate the milestone of his first NBA game in 380 days.

“It’s been frustrating since then,” he said, “but finally I’m out there playing basketball, playing the game I love. Being out there, that’s how I speak, I would say, through my game and how I share that chemistry with [my teammates].”

Ohio FBI shooting – latest: Ricky Shiffer eyed as ‘domestic extremist’ in Cincinnati attack as Jan 6 link found

Eric Trump blames Biden administration after FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago

Cincinnati shooting suspect Ricky Shiffer was shot dead by police on the side of an interstate highway hours after he attempted to breach a visitor’s entrance at an FBI field office in the city.

The 42-year-old, of Columbus, Ohio, fled the scene of the attempted attack on Thursday morning before a standoff and shootout took place hours later. The FBI confirmed his death at 3.45pm following an exchange of gunfire.

Officials are now investigating Shiffer’s ties to the US Capitol riot and right wing extremism as he appears to have claimed that he was present in Washington on 6 January on Truth Social, a pro-Trump social media site.

Shiffer also appeared to support former US president Donald Trump’s unfounded claims of a stolen election in 2020 and responded to social media posts by pro-Trump figures such as congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump Jr.

On Tuesday, the FBI carried out a search at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida as part of an investigation into the mishandling of White House documents, sparking anger among his supporters. The raid was referenced in Shiffer’s social media posts this week.

Suspect was armed with AR-15 rifle, officials say

Suspect Ricky Shiffer was armed with a nail gun and an AR-15-style rifle when he tried to breach the visitor screening area at the FBI office Thursday, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press.

Earlier reports said Shiffer had fired a nail gun at the FBI office in Cincinnati, Ohio, before attempting to breach the visitor screening area of the building.

He then fled when agents confronted him, and was later shot dead during a standoff involving FBI agents and Ohio State Highway Patrol.

AR-15’s are a semi-automatic weapon that have been heavily criticised amid a series of mass shootings in the US this year, including at a 4 July parade and in schools.

Shiffer a ‘suspected domestic violent extremist’

Ricky Shiffer has been considered a “suspected domestic violent extremist” by investigators, law enforcement officials were reported as saying on Friday.

An official told ABC News that Shiffer was being investigated as a “suspected domestic violent extremist” and that his social media history was under investigation following the attack on an FBI office on Thursday.

The report cited his social media posts on Twitter and Truth Social, the platform set-up by Donald Trump after leaving office.

Suspect seen in January 6 photos, law enforcement say

Although Ohio shooting suspect Ricky Shiffer was believed to have tweeted about attending the US Capitol on January 6, it remains unclear if he did enter the building.

As The New York Times reported on Thursday, a tweet by an account thought to being to Shiffer claimed in May: “ I was there. We watched as your goons did that.”

The tweet had been in response to a photo of rioters climbing the walls of the Capitol Building, and was among multiple posts with pro-Trump messaging.

Officials told reporters following the attack on an FBI office that the 42-year-old had not been charged in connection with the riot, although law enforcement had seen the Columbus, Ohio, resident in photos from the riot, NBC News reported.

Negotiations with shooter failed, officials said

ICYMI: Suspect shooter Ricky Shiffer fled the FBI field office in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was shot following failed negotiations with multiple law enforcement agencies.

Lt Nathan Dennis, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said negotiations with the suspect failed along the I-71 highway and that police had tried “less lethal tactics” before gunfire was exchanged.

There were no other injuries and it was unclear if the suspect had said anything to officers during the standoff, which came after Shiffer was accused of trying to break into the FBI’s field office in Cincinnati.

1660312822

On the same day FBI shooting suspect Ricky Shiffer responded to a tweet by congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in May, the Ohio man also responded to a post by the former US president’s eldest son with another apparently veiled threat.

“Do not comply,” Shiffer reportedly tweeted in response to a post by Donald Trump Jr telling his followers to “Get ready” because “the midterm variant (of COVID-19) is coming and it’s going to be really scary”.

A NBC News reported of the Twitter posts, the remarks by Mr Trump Jr were in an apparent reference to fringe conspiracy theories about the disease and were unfounded.

FBI issued warning on Wednesday to employees about threats

On Wednesday, the FBI had warned its officers to avoid potential protesters and to ensure their security key cards were “not visible outside FBI space” because of an increase in threats shared online, the Associated Press reported.

While the internal warning to FBI employees did not specifically mention the search of Mar-a-Lago, the bureau attributed the online threats to “recent media reporting on FBI investigative activity.”

On Gab, a social media site popular with white supremacists, users have reportedly been warning that they were preparing for an armed revolution following the FBI’s execution of a search warrant on Donald Tump’s Florida home.

The search is believed to be part of an investigation into possible wrongdoing over classified White House documents taken to Mar-a-Lago.

Shoot-out under investigation, FBI says

In an updated statement on Thursday night, the FBI field office in Cincinnati said it “takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or their task-force members seriously” and that the the FBI’s Inspection Division was now probing the shoot-out between officers and suspect Ricky Shiffer.

The agency confirmed that Shiffer was shot dead by officers at about 3.45pm on Thursday, who also fired weapons.

Shiffer had earlier tried to breach the visitor entrance to the FBI office in Cincinnati before fleeing in his vehicle along the interstate 71 highway, where was spotted by Ohio State Highway Patrol and “contained”.

Suspect called for “1775” as “solution” in reply to Marjorie Taylor Greene

Social media accounts thought to belong to FBI shooting suspect Ricky Shiffer have come under scrutiny since his death on Thursday following a shoot-out with officers and an attempted attack on the bureau’s office in Cincinnati.

One tweet seen by NBC News suggested that in May, Shiffer responded to a tweet by pro-Trump congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene by referencing the need for a repeat of “1775” – in apparent reference to the beginning of the American Revolutionary War.

Shiffer reportedly wrote: “Congresswoman Greene, they got away with fixing elections in plain sight. It’s over. The next step is the one we used in 1775.”

Ms Greene had tweeted: “I know they are trying 1984, but I’m feeling 2016 vibes”. Those comments were in apparent reference to false claims made by Donald Trump that Democrats stole the 2020 US election.

Attack could lead to others, former agent warns

The attack on the FBI’s Cincinnati headquarters by a lone shooter could act as a rallying cry for other “unhinged” people to launch similar assaults, a former top agent has warned.

Speaking to CNN on Thursday, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe said it was “coincidental” that the attack on an FBI field office came in the aftermath of an FBI search on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property.

The suspect in the Cincinnati shoot-out, Ricky Shiffer, suggested on social media that he had attended the 6 January Capitol riot in support of the former president’s stolen election lies and was planning on carrying out the attack on the FBI office following the search on Mar-a-Lago, reports say.

Gunman may have left farewell message on Trump’s social platform

ICYMI: Social media accounts appearing to belong to the Ohio shooting suspect Ricky Shiffer indicate he was present in Washington, DC, on 5 and 6 January for pro-Trump demonstrations in 2021, and claimed to have been present at the storming of the Capitol itself.

“I was there,” a Twitter account with the name Ricky Shiffer wrote, replying to a picture of rioters climbing into the Capitol.

An account on Truth Social, Donald Trump’s conservative social network, also appears to belong to Shiffer.

Ricky Shiffer: An armed man tried to enter the FBI’s Cincinnati office and was fatally shot after a chase and standoff with law enforcement. Here’s what we know

The suspect has been identified as Ricky Shiffer, according to three federal law enforcement sources. A separate federal law enforcement source told CNN the suspect was believed to be armed with a nail gun and an AR-15 rifle.

After attempting to enter the FBI facility, authorities say he fled and his vehicle was followed by state police. When the vehicle pursuit ended, there was a lengthy standoff that ended when the suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement, according to authorities.

The FBI said in a statement that it is investigating the circumstances that led to the suspect being shot.

While authorities have not announced a motive, the FBI is investigating the man’s social media presence and whether he had ties to right-wing extremism, one of the sources told CNN.

Here’s what we know about the attempted breach and the suspect.

What happened when the suspect tried to enter the office?

At about 9:15 a.m. ET, an armed man tried to breach the visitor screening facility at the FBI field office, the agency said in a statement.

“Upon the activation of an alarm and a response by armed FBI special agents, the subject fled northbound onto Interstate 71,” FBI Cincinnati said in a statement.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded and found the suspect at an interstate rest stop in a Ford Crown Victoria at around 9:37 a.m., the highway patrol said in a statement.

The troopers tried to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect, but he fled and a vehicle pursuit ensued, Lt. Nathan Dennis, a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said at a news conference. He said shots were fired from the suspect’s car during the chase.

The suspect got off the highway at state Route 73 and came to a stop around 9:53 a.m. on a road in Clinton County, the highway patrol said.

How did the standoff unfold?

After stopping, the man got out and “engaged officers,” the highway patrol said. Gunfire was exchanged between law enforcement and the suspect, who used his vehicle for cover, they said.

The suspect was wearing body armor, according to a Facebook post from the Clinton County Emergency Management Agency. A lockdown was in effect within a 1-mile radius of the standoff location, the post said.

The standoff stretched for several hours as law enforcement unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate with the suspect, the highway patrol said.

“Once negotiations failed, officers attempted to take the suspect into custody by utilizing less lethal tactics,” the agency said. “At approximately 3:42 p.m., the suspect raised a firearm and shots were fired by law enforcement officers.”

The suspect was shot and died from his injuries on the scene, the agency said.

It is unclear what less lethal tactics authorities used during their attempt to arrest him.

What do we know about the suspect?

The FBI is investigating Shiffer’s social media presence and whether he had ties to right-wing extremism, a federal law enforcement source told CNN.

Authorities are also looking into whether he participated in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol or was associated with any groups that took part in the attack, a separate federal law enforcement source tells CNN.

A social media account bearing the name of Ricky Shiffer posted on the social media platform founded by former President Donald Trump, Truth Social, appearing to reference his attempt to storm an FBI office.

The post about the FBI office attack was made minutes after the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the incident at the office in Cincinnati began, shortly after 9:15 a.m.

“Well, I thought I had a way through bullet proof glass, and I didn’t,” the user posted at 9:29 a.m. Thursday. “If you don’t hear from me, it is true I tried attacking the F.B.I., and it’ll mean either I was taken off the internet, the F.B.I. got me, or they sent the regular cops while.”

It’s unclear whether the user was attempting to write more, as the post stops after, “while.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed that the account belongs to the suspect. However, a law enforcement source did confirm to CNN that a photo on the account matched a government ID photo of the suspect.

The FBI declined to comment on the account and its postings, citing the ongoing investigation.

On the account, which has only been active the last few weeks, the user posted thoughts that were politically violent and revolution-minded. But it was not until the FBI executed a search warrant on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home that the user began to fixate on responding with violence toward the agency.

“People, this is it,” the user wrote on August 8, the day the FBI executed the warrant. “I hope a call to arms comes from someone better qualified, but if not, this is your call to arms from me.

In that post, the user encouraged people to go to gun and pawn shops to, “get whatever you need to be ready for combat.”

When another person responded to the user saying that they would be sending his photo and information to the FBI, the user responded by saying, “Bring them on.”

It’s unclear whether or not the information was in fact forwarded to the FBI.

On August 9, the user wrote that people were heading to gather in Palm Beach and said that if the FBI broke up the group, “kill them.”

The user of the account also claimed they were present in Washington, DC, on January 6, but did not say whether they entered the Capitol.

How has the FBI responded?

FBI headquarters is investigating the “agent-involved shooting,” the agency said in a statement. A law enforcement source told CNN the agency has deployed a Shooting Incident Review Team to the scene, which is standard practice when an FBI special agent or task force officer discharges a weapon.

The review team will gather evidence, interview witnesses, and ultimately determine whether the use of deadly force was justified, the source said.

“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously,” the bureau statement read. “The review process is thorough and objective, and is conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray released a statement Thursday evening condemning attacks on law enforcement and the FBI.

“Unfounded attacks on the integrity of the FBI erode respect for the rule of law and are a grave disservice to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect others. Violence and threats against law enforcement, including the FBI, are dangerous and should be deeply concerning to all Americans,” Wray said.

CNN’s Paul P. Murphy, Evan Perez, Michelle Watson, Caroll Alvarado, Chuck Johnston and Dakin Andone contributed to this report.

Ricky Martin’s Husband Posts About Court Case

Jwan Yosef, Ricky Martin’s husband, made a post in support of the singer following his court case being dismissed.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Ricky’s nephew had been granted a restraining order against the singer under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law — following claims that the two had engaged in a seven-month relationship that ended with his nephew having “fears for his safety.” Ricky’s lawyer vehemently denied the allegations at the time.

Yesterday, Ricky’s nephew withdrew his harassment claims in court — resulting in the case being dismissed. Ricky’s lawyers subsequently released a statement that read, “We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career.”

Twitter: @ricky_martin

“The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case. This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them.”

Jwan, a Swedish artist who has been married to Ricky since 2017, posted a picture of him being embraced by the singer with the caption, “Truth Prevails ❤️.”

Ricky himself replied, “My strength and my calm. I love you.”

Following his court appearance yesterday, Ricky said in a video obtained by TMZ, “It has been so painful. It has been devastating for me, for my family, for my friends. I don’t wish this upon anybody.”

Ricky Martin’s Nephew Withdraws Harassment and Affair Accusations

Ricky Martin’s nephew withdrew his harassment and affair claims against the singer in a July 21 court appearance, which effectively closed the case.

Joaquín Monserrate Matienzo, Carmelo Dávila and Harry Massanet Pastrana, the attorneys for Martin, released a statement about the dismissal.

“Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court,” the statement reads. “The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter. The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case. This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career.”

Martin appeared virtually in a Puerto Rico court to address the allegations made by his 21-year-old nephew. Prior to this in early July, Martin had been served a restraining order by his nephew that cited abuse. Martin had denied the allegations against him, with the singer’s lawyer offering a statement regarding the matter last Friday.

“Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” Martin Singer, Martin’s attorney, said. “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

The singer’s brother also maintains that Martin’s nephew is “struggling with deep mental health challenges.”

Beyond this case, Martin is currently facing other legal troubles, with his former manager suing him for $3 million, claiming that he owes her unpaid commissions.

Ricky Martin’s Lawyer Denies “Disgusting” Claim About Nephew – The Hollywood Reporter

Ricky Martin is denying any sort of romantic relationship with his nephew after new developments have arisen in the domestic abuse dispute that led to a restraining order against him earlier this month in Puerto Rico.

According to media reports, the accuser — who filed the order anonymously — was Martin’s 21-year-old nephew, who alleged he had dated the Puerto Rican artist for seven months. The report quotes the order as saying they broke up two months ago, but the petitioner says Martin did not accept the separation and has been seen loitering near the petitioner’s house at least three times.

“Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” Marty Singer, Martin’s attorney, said in a statement to Billboard. “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

On July 2, Judge Raiza Cajigas Campbell of the Court of First Instance of San Juan, Puerto Rico, issued a restraining order against the artist, with authorities visiting the island’s north coastal town of Dorado, where the singer lives, to try to serve the order, police spokesman Axel Valencia told the Associated Press.

It was not immediately known who requested the restraining order. Valencia said he could not provide further details because the order was filed under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law.

The next day, the “Tiburones” singer took to social media to deny the order’s allegations, saying it was “completely false” and that he would face the process “with the responsibility that characterizes me.” He added, “I appreciate the innumerable gestures of solidarity and I receive them with all my heart.”

Ricky Martin accused of ‘incest’ crime in shocking Puerto Rico reports

Ricky Martin allegedly could be facing 50 years in prison following domestic violence allegations reportedly filed by his 21-year-old nephew.

Earlier in the month, it was revealed that a judge in Puerto Rico has issued a domestic violence-related restraining order against the Latin pop icon.

The victim’s name was not previously disclosed; however, according to Spanish publication Marca, Martin’s brother, Eric Martin, claimed that the victim is 21-year-old Dennis Yadiel Sanchez — the singer’s nephew.

Under Puerto Rico’s laws for incest charges, the sentence Martin could face is 50 years in prison if the allegations are true.

The publication reported the complaint was made anonymously under Law 54, known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act.

The victim is allegedly Martin’s 21-year-old nephew.

El Vocero, a Puerto Rico newspaper, reported that the order states Martin and the person who filed the complaint dated for seven months. The person reportedly alleged that Martin didn’t take their break up well and has loitered near the petitioner’s home at least three times, according to the report.

Earlier in the month, Martin was slapped with a $3 million lawsuit from his ex-manager, Rebecca Drucker, for unpaid commissions, and the legal documents reportedly allude to a “potentially career-ending allegation.”

“The allegations against Ricky Martin that lead to a protection order are completely false and fabricated,” a representative for Martin told The Post earlier this month. “We are very confident that when the true facts come out in this matter our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated.”

After issuing initial denials of the rumored “career-ending allegation” teased by his ex-manager, representatives for Martin have not responded to The Post’s repeated requests for comment on the Puerto Rican reports, subsequent viral Twitter outrage and TMZ breaking the story in the US market. The Post has also reached out to his brother Eric for comment about the controversy.

“The petitioner fears for his safety,” El Vocero quoted the protection order as saying. The order reportedly bars the “Livin’ la Vida Loca” singer from contacting or calling the person who filed it.

The singer was reportedly in a relationship with his nephew for seven months.

Martin — who released a six-song EP, titled “Play,” on Wednesday — denied the allegations in a post to Twitter on July 3, writing: “The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegations, so I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterize me.

“Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart.”

The legal proceedings are set to begin on July 21.

Martin and his husband, Spanish-born artist Jwan Yosef, have been married since 2017.
