Google Password Manager replacing Chrome’s list on Android [U]

The increased prominence of Google Password Manager continues with the latest version of Chrome for Android replacing the browser’s built-in saved credentials list.

Update 12/2: After the official announcement in late June, Chrome 107 and 108 are widely replacing the Android browser’s native credentials list with the Google Password Manager. You’ll see a “New” badge in Chrome settings and tapping opens the experience powered by Google Play services.

Some users might already have it with version 107, but Chrome 108 looks to widely enable it. The new stable browser release is still rolling out. Accessing through Chrome > Settings is much faster than opening the Settings app > Google > Manage your Google Account > Security > Password Manager.

Original 6/21: On Chrome 103 for Android, opening Settings reveals a new “Password Manager” menu item that replaces “Passwords.” Tapping now opens the Google Play Services-powered experience that is in the middle or rolling out a homescreen shortcut that uses a four-colored key icon. This will launch in a separate window and you’re free to browse the web as it’s open.

The UI is similar to the one you’ll find at passwords.google.com on the web with a card to initiate a Password Checkup. Below that is a list of credentials saved to your account. Tapping on one, which is usefully accompanied by a favicon here, prompts you to authenticate via fingerprint before being able to see/copy a password.

Meanwhile, you can quickly search or add a new username and password, while a settings gear icon in the top-right corner lets you enable/disable: Offer to save passwords, Auto sign-in, and Password alerts across Android and Chrome.

In short, the end user experience doesn’t really change by Chrome switching to the Google Password Manager. It was already the same backend and the new UI is closer in line with the web version, while it gives Google one surface to focus upgrades on. For example, in settings, you’ll soon see the option to enable on-device encryption.

Chrome 103 is rolling out to the stable channel starting today, while this change is already live in beta.

Aaron Rodgers exits game vs. Eagles with rib injury; Jordan Love fires TD after replacing Packers QB

/ Getty Images

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers exited Sunday night’s 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and headed into the locker room in the third quarter. Rodgers, who has been battling a fractured right thumb since early October, left the game with what the team originally described as an oblique injury.

During his postgame press conference, Rodgers said he hurt his ribs in the first half and tweaked them again in the third quarter. Rodgers said X-rays were inconclusive and he will undergo further testing on Monday.

As for when or if he will return to the lineup this season, Rodgers said if he is healthy, he wants to be out there “as long as we’re mathematically alive” for a postseason spot. The loss dropped Green Bay’s record to 4-8. They sit 11th in the NFC, three games behind the Commanders for the seventh and final seed.

Backup Jordan Love came in at quarterback in Rodgers’ absence and quickly made an impact, connecting with rookie receiver Christian Watson on a 63-yard touchdown, closing the Packers’ deficit to 37-30.

Before leaving the game, Rodgers went 11-for-16 with 140 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Rodgers did not have an injury designation for tonight’s game, but has been playing with an avulsion fracture in his right thumb, per NFL Media. The injury occurred on Oct. 9 in the Packers’ loss to the Giants, when New York defender Oshane Ximines hit No. 12’s hand during a Hail Mary attempt on the final play of the game.

Rodgers has not missed any games due to the thumb and says he will continue playing through the injury. As of now, he says he is not considering surgery.

Replacing Karl Dorrell at Colorado: Candidates range from a current SEC coach to an NFL OC

Paul Chryst’s ouster from Wisconsin Sunday was a surprise. But Karl Dorrell? Not at all.

Colorado is 0-5 and 4-13 in the past two seasons. The roster is dreadful by Power 5 standards. This is going to be a really tough job. It doesn’t have a great recruiting base, and it’s got a pretty shaky positioning regarding conference stability. Colorado also hasn’t had back-to-back winning seasons in almost 20 years, dating back to 2004-05. There’s been just one Top 25 season in the past 20 years, a No. 17 finish in 2016 under Mike MacIntyre.

How can Colorado fix this? Who wants to try? The latter is just as important a question.

We think Colorado will try and keep the search focused on candidates with head coaching experience, but there are a couple of men without that experience we think the Buffaloes may consider.

Candidates with head coaching experience

Bronco Mendenhall: Former BYU and Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall is available. He’s a defensive-minded coach who had a solid run at Virginia after going 99-43 at BYU. He knows this region well and would feel like a pretty safe hire. Would he fire up the fan base? Probably not, but could he develop the Buffaloes into a bowl team? Probably.

Kalani Sitake: The guy who followed Mendenhall at BYU, Sitake would also make some sense. His teams are always very physical and play hard.
