AMD partner suspects a faulty batch of reference Radeon 7900 GPUs is affected by thermal issues

Please note that this post is tagged as a rumor.

There might be a fault batch of reference AMD Radeon 7900 GPUs

Igor Wallossek has provided a brief update to Der8auer findings.

As a reminder, Der8auer has recently posted a video focusing on AMD Radeon 7900 reference card thermal throttling related issues. Although he has not yet provided a full explanation, he claims that it is very likely that a faulty vapor chamber might be the main culprit behind GPU hot spot issues and as a result, thermal throttling.

Today Igor weighs in by sharing a note from a board partner. It is reported that the undisclosed OEM suspects at least one faulty batch of Radeon 7900 series might have left the factory. The possible issue being described is insufficient coolant added to the vapor chamber.

Possible explanation of Radeon 7900 thermal problem, Source: Igor’sLAB

Igor does not want to spoil the der8auer’s new findings, so what is important is that the YouTuber is to share a new video tomorrow which should provide us more information.

For those affected it is really too early to tell if these claims are even true. And even if there is a faulty batch of Radeon 7900 reference cards, it is not clear how many were made and where they were sent to yet.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX & 7900 XT Reference Models By Sapphire Listed At Amazon

AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX & RX 7900 XT graphics cards have been listed by Amazon in reference flavors from Sapphire.

Sapphire’s Reference Radeon RX 7900 XTX & RX 7900 XT Graphics Cards Listed At Amazon

Sapphire has become the first AIB partner of AMD to list down its Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards which include the 7900 XTX & the 7900 XT. Both graphics cards are reference models so the details for both are already well known in regards to their cooling designs and specs but the AIB is also working on some really high-end custom designs such as the Nitro+ and Vapor-X series that’s been teased.

Following are the product links at Amazon but do note that both graphics cards are currently listed as unavailable since the launch is 10 days away:

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Graphics Card “Official” Specifications

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card utilizes the full Navi 31 XTX GPU which features a total of 48 WGPs, 96 CUs, and 6144 cores. The core clock for the graphics card is maintained at 2.3 GHz base clock and 2.5 GHz boost clock, delivering up to 61 TFLOPs of compute performance at a 355W TBP.

  • AMD Navi 31 XTX: 6144 Cores, 384-bit Bus, 192 MB Infinity Cache, 308mm2 GPU Die @5nm
  • AMD Navi 21 XTX: 5120 Cores, 384-bit Bus, 128 MB Infinity Cache, 520mm2 GPU Die @7nm

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card will also carry 6 MCD’s which will feature 16 MB Infinity Cache per die and 96 MB in total across a 384-bit wide bus interface. The card features 20GB VRAM capacities and has 20 Gbps dies offering up to 960 GB/s bandwidth (3.5 TB/s with Infinity Cache).

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB Graphics Card “Official” Specifications

There will also be a cut-down variant that will feature the Navi 31 XT GPU core. This chip is going to pack 42 WGPs (84 Compute Units) or 5376 cores and will be featured on the Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card. That’s 12.5% fewer cores than the full-fat variant. The GPU will also run at slightly lower clock speeds with the game clock rated at just 2.0 GHz which is 300 MHz slower than the XTX variant and a 100 MHz lower boost clock of 2.4 GHz at a TBP of 300W.

  • AMD Navi 31 XT: 5376 Cores, 320-bit Bus, 160 MB Infinity Cache, 308mm2 GPU Die @5nm
  • AMD Navi 21 XT: 4608 Cores, 256-bit Bus, 128 MB Infinity Cache, 520mm2 GPU Die @7nm

The Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card will also feature 20 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 320-bit wide bus interface. Since there are only 5 MCDs enabled, the card will end up with 80 MB of Infinity Cache which is 16MB lower than the top variant and a 16.6% decrease. The card offers 800 GB/s of bandwidth (3.5 TB/s with Infinity Cache).

Custom Radeon RX 7900 series rumored to launch 1 to 2 weeks after AMD reference design

Please note that this post is tagged as a rumor.

Initial launch of AMD Radeon RX 7900 GPUs to be limited to reference models only

Custom Radeon RX 7900 cards rumored to launch 1 to 2 weeks later.

According to the BoardChannels news, the launch of Radeon RX 7900 series on December 13th could initially be limited to ‘public models’. This obviously refers to the MBA (Made by AMD) reference design that is to be offered by all major board partners.

It is said that custom models are to appear 1 to 2 weeks later, without stating any reason. At the time of writing, no board partner has even shared the full specs of their cards, not to mention the fact that only two manufacturers have showcased their cards thus far (ASUS and PowerColor).

AMD Radeon launch being limited to reference models is not uncommon, though. This way AMD can ensure that at least for a limited time there will be no overcharge on their cards, simply because they are all the same. On the other hand, custom models may appear at any moment, making it harder to purchase the most desired card.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 Series graphics cards are expected to be available from AMD.com beginning December 13, 2022, and from leading board partners including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston beginning mid-December. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has an SEP of $999 USD, while the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT has an SEP of $899 USD.

Back in September, AMD confirmed to be working with several board partners for the Radeon 7900 launch. At least 10 brands are to have their RX 7900 designs eventually. According to the same quote, those cards are to be available starting from mid-December.

Sports Reporters Reference Taylor Swift‘s ’Midnights’ During Broadcast – Billboard

Taylor Swift finally unveiled her Midnights album on Friday (Oct. 21), and to celebrate, Sportsnet anchor Faizal Khamisa challenged himself to reference all 13 tracks of the original album while running through his sports broadcast.

“Alex Bregman was once baseball’s ‘Anti-Hero,’ but now he’s just plain hero for Houston,” he says at one point, before calling a heated hockey fight some “Vigilante S—.” He flawlessly incorporated all tracks into the broadcast, checking off each song as he went along.

While the broadcast featured the 13 tracks that dropped at midnight, Swift promised a  “special very chaotic surprise” in the wee hours following the album’s release, and she didn’t disappoint, dropping a trove of seven extra Midnights tracks.

“Surprise!” she wrote on social media. “I think of Midnights as a complete concept album, with those 13 songs forming a full picture of the intensities of that mystifying, mad hour. However! There were other songs we wrote on our journey to find that magic 13.”

The fuller, 20-track version of Midnights is titled Midnights (3am Edition), and includes the previously unannounced songs “The Great War,” “Bigger Than the Whole Sky,” “Paris,” “High Infidelity,” “Glitch,” “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.”

After a weekend of soaking up those 20 new tunes, Swifties can tune into NBC on Monday for Swift’s previously confirmed appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Then on Tuesday, Oct. 25, a second, unnamed Midnights music video will drop. And next Friday, Oct. 28, Swift will stop by the BBC for The Graham Norton Show in the U.K.

Fortnite reference the ‘dead game’ meme in a new skin

Say what you will of the multi-franchise monster that Fortnite has become, but at least its developers know how to crack a solid joke.

Fortnite’s newest skin references the phrase “dead game,” which is a long-running diss-turned-joke in video game communities online. The skin comes as part of a new aesthetic items pack called the “Checkered Past Pack.” The pack has multiple items, one which is the skin which wears black nail polish, a checkered hat, and a sleeveless black turtleneck with the phrase “Dead game,” printed in white lettering on the top.

The phrase references a long-running meme used by people to dismiss a game or claim it’s no longer relevant. Basically the phrase is used to imply that a game has fallen off and is no longer played and liked by people any more. (A phrase that has for many a moon, been used to describe Fortnite despite not actual evidence to support it.) Because it’s so commonly misapplied to games that maintain active playerbases, it’s often used as a sarcastic retort to players who might think interest in a specific game is waning.

It’s a playful way for the developers to wink back at potential haters. If you think the skin is cute well you’re in luck. At time of publication, the full pack is available to purchase in Fortnite’s item shop and is available for purchase for $3.99 or 600 V-Bucks.

Donald Trump Jr mocked after trying to explain Godfather reference at Jan 6 hearing

Donald Trump Jr was ridiculed on social media after he was asked to explain what he meant by “go to the mattresses” in texts with the White House chief of staff.

The pre-recorded testimony of the former president’s eldest son was played during Thursday’s hearing of the January 6 committee.

In his texts to Mark Meadows, Mr Trump Jr appeared to implore him to force his father, Donald Trump, to stop the attack at the Capitol by his followers.

“He’s got to condemn this s***. Asap. The Capitol police tweet is not enough,” Mr Trump Jr said in one of the text messages to Mr Meadows which was displayed on the screen during the prime time hearing.

Mr Meadows replied: “I am pushing it hard. I agree.”

“This (is) one you go to the mattresses on,” Mr Trump Jr shot back. “They will try to (expletive) his entire legacy on this if it gets worse.”

In his interview with January 6 committee, the former president’s son was particularly asked what he meant by the phrase ”go to the mattresses”.

Mr Trump Jr was heard saying that it was a “Godfather” reference that urged Mr Meadows to “go all in” to have his father condemn the riots.

“Just a reference for going all in. I think it is a ‘Godfather’ reference,” he said.

The explanation by Mr Trump Jr has elicited humorous reactions from viewers who questioned if he even understood the phrase in the movie and said the “mafia families” reference is perfect for the Trumps. The phrase, used in the context of Mario Puzo’s classic novel, means to prepare for a lengthy war.

“Junior’s ‘going to the mattresses’ Godfather reference makes absolutely no sense in the context he said it. That refers to people sleeping on mattresses in hideouts and not going home during a war between mafia families. Figures his scrambled mind couldn’t even get that right,” Twitter user Ron Filipkowski said.

“Is there anything more ’Donald Trump Jr’ than using a phrase from The Godfather and having no idea what it means?” another user Linka Banks said.

A Twitter user also noted that “the room laughed mockingly at his answer” when Mr Trump Jr said “go all in” was a Godfather reference.

Much of Thursday’s hearing involved first-hand accounts from White House officials like Cassidy Hutchinson and Pat Cipollone as well as Matt Pottinger, the former deputy national security adviser.

The hearing also showed Mr Trump refusing to say he “lost the election” in new footage in which he was seen rehearsing his speech.

It also showed radio transmissions from terrified Secret Service agents worried about their own safety and that of Mike Pence; according to an anonymous official, some agents even left messages for family members worrying that they would not return.

An Affordable Reference Mic You Can Build Yourself

Reference mics are vital tools for audio work. They’re prized for their flat frequency response, and are often used for characterizing the audio response of a room or space. OpenRefMic aims to be an open source design for producing reference mics without paying exorbitant retail prices.

The heart of the build is a preamplifier that runs off standard 48 V phantom power, and is responsible for both biasing the electret microphone element and acting as a buffer for the mic signal. It’s designed specifically to work with the PUI AOM-5024L-HD-F-R mic capsule, chosen for its good performance and low noise characteristics. However, other electric mics should work, too. The hardware is wrapped up in a 3D printed case which can readily be made on most basic printers. It’s complete with a press-fit grille that holds the mic capsule in place.

The prime goal of the project is low noise; the project creator, [loudifier], notes that most commercial reference mics focus first on flat frequency response and then reducing noise. OpenRefMic performs well in this area, and its lack of a perfectly flat frequency response is countered with calibrated equalization. It also works with regular pro-grade XLR cables and phantom power, rather than needing fancy laboratory-spec cables and interfaces.

The final result is a credit to [loudifier], who demonstrates a strong understanding of the principles of reference mic design. We’ve seen some other great low-cost reference mics recently, too!

Amber Heard’s reference to Johnny Depp’s ex Kate Moss may ‘blow up in her face,’ expert says

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Amber Heard‘s surprise reference to Kate Moss on the stand last week, which prompted Johnny Depp‘s lawyers to erupt in glee, may spectacularly backfire, sources and experts told Fox News Digital.

The “Aquaman” actress told jurors May 5 the only time she had ever “landed a blow” was during a fight with Depp over his alleged infidelity in March 2015, when she thought he was about to push her sister down the stairs.

“I don’t hesitate. I don’t wait. I instantly think of Kate Moss and the stairs, and I swung at him,” Heard blurted, referring to a rumor that Depp had once shoved the supermodel, whom he dated in the 1990s, down a flight of stairs.

JOHNNY DEPP V. AMBER HEARD DEFAMATION TRIAL: LIVE UPDATES

Depp’s attorney Ben Chew opened his mouth widely and his eyes lit up in an expression of giddy surprise, as he turned to his team and did a fist pump. Depp, sitting next to Chew, looked down at the plaintiff’s table and smiled broadly.

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia over a 2018 op-ed she wrote identifying herself as a victim of domestic abuse, which  he says ruined his reputation and career.

In a $100-million countersuit, Heard alleges that her ex-husband conspired with his former attorney to defame her by calling her abuse allegations a hoax.

Manhattan-based civil lawyer Roland Acevedo called the name-dropping of the supermodel an obvious misstep that could “blow up in her face.”

“It certainly could open the door to calling in Kate Moss,” said Acevedo.  “It’s considered a tangential issue that usually courts don’t let you bring in but since the defense opened the door and said he did this, they now may be able to call her to prove it never happened. This could blow up in her face.”

The decision on whether Moss can or will testify ultimately rests with Judge Penney Azcarate.

JOHNNY DEPP V. AMBER HEARD: THE SHOCKING TRIAL’S WILDEST MOMENTS

A source close to Depp said he and Moss have remained close friends, and his legal team may reach out to her to testify during the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s rebuttal case.

Virginia-based civil lawyer Broderick Dunn agreed with Acevedo. “I think it’s certainly something Johnny Depp’s lawyers will now explore,” he said. It wasn’t just the Moss reference that may have landed Heard in hot water.  During Heard’s testimony, she recounted the first time Depp allegedly hit her in 2013.

“I knew you can’t hit a woman. I knew you can’t hit a man,” she testified.

Actress Amber Heard slammed the accusation made from ex-husband Johnny Depp’s camp.

This statement may allow Depp’s team to cross-examine Heard about her 2009 arrest for allegedly hitting ex-girlfriend Tasya van Ree at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

She was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence for allegedly yanking van Ree’s necklace off and smacking her in the arm, but prosecutors declined to move forward with the case, according to Depp’s lawsuit.

Dun said  the domestic violence incident could come in now. “If Amber Heard is saying she ‘knew she can’t hit a woman’ and if she’s been charged with doing just that, then it cracks the door open for Depp’s team to try introduce evidence of any prior assaults,” said Dunn.

After Heard’s mugshot surfaced, the actress allegedly claimed that she was arrested on a “trumped-up charge” because the cops were misogynistic and homophobic.

The police officer who slapped her in cuffs “was both a woman and a lesbian activist, who publicly said so after she was publicly disparaged by Ms. Heard,” Depp’s lawyers wrote the suit.

Acevedo added that “you can prep a witness until you’re blue in the face” and these blunders still happen.

“They may have told her 10 times don’t bring up Kate Moss, but it gets emotional on the stand, and it’s not easy to testify,” he said.

The trial was on a pre-scheduled break this week but is set to resume on Monday with Heard back in the witness box.
