Rumour: Verified Reddit leaker teases a Metroid Prime announcement

One of the moderators for Reddit’s Gaming Leaks and Rumours sub occasionally receives direct messages from one of the sub’s users who creatively leaks video gaming news, just before it is officially announced. The person has previously creatively leaked to the moderator the official name of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Switch, Splatoon 3 and Wario Ware, before they were officially announced in an Nintendo Direct. The Reddit moderator says that the user has “an undefeated record” when it comes to leaks and that the user DM’ed the Reddit moderator today saying “Do you think everyone is primed and ready?” possibly hinting at Metroid Prime news, most likely the Metroid Prime Remake which Venture Beat and Games Beat journalist, Jeff Grubb, insisted earlier this year is real.

Reddit users fill Kanye subreddit with Holocaust posts

Comment

Fans on Reddit have turned against Kanye West, transforming a subreddit dedicated to him into a page promoting Holocaust education within hours of Ye’s most recent antisemitic comments.

r/Kanye, a 700,000-member space on Reddit where fans once discussed Ye’s music, fashion and other endeavors, has been flooded with posts providing information about the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust and denouncing antisemitism.

The page offered a spontaneous show of support for Jewish Americans and a visual representation of pushback against West, who has legally changed his name to Ye, after weeks of his antisemitic remarks. It came after Ye on Thursday said he liked Adolf Hitler and later tweeted an image of a swastika.

“As a Jew and an early Kanye fan,” one commenter posted, “I never looked in this sub[reddit] until this morning and I saw all the holocaust remembrance posts. I’m in … tears right now. Thank you for standing up for us.”

Kanye West may have finally reached the point of no return

The posts include Holocaust-related photos and information intended to spread awareness about Nazi Germany’s persecution and killing of 6 million Jews. People are also posting educational book and movie recommendations, photos from visits to Holocaust memorial and museum sites, and photos they say are of family members who were persecuted under the Nazi regime.

“Photos I took when I visited Auschwitz. This is real. This is what happened to millions of innocent men, women and children as the result of unchecked dehumanizing rhetoric against them,” one person wrote, attaching photos of the site of the Nazi death camp. “Never again.”

Overt U.S. antisemitism returns with Trump, Kanye West: ‘Something is different’

Sprinkled throughout those posts is another a symbol of fans’ disavowing of Ye: Memes praising Taylor Swift, who has been seen as a nemesis of Ye — and his fans — since he interrupted her 2009 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech. “Hey guys! Just getting into Taylor but don’t know where to start. Any suggestions?” wrote one person who posted a photo of Swift.

Some posts make it clear that even fans who maintained allegiance to Ye despite his repeated antisemitic remarks and erratic behavior have now decided to abandon him.

“I looked up to you. And now you ruined it all,” one commenter wrote. “Ashamed that you were once my favorite artist. Ashamed that I called you the GOAT. … I am done with you.”

The shift on the subreddit started Thursday, after Ye praised Hitler and Nazis in an interview with right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. It came a little more than a week after Ye dined with former president Donald Trump and white nationalist Nick Fuentes, an event for which some Republicans chastised Trump. Fuentes also appeared on Jones’s show with Ye.

Wearing a full mask, Ye told Jones he liked Hitler, then said, “I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis.”

Thursday night, Ye tweeted a photo of a swastika combined with the Star of David. His Twitter account was suspended after the tweet. Both incidents drew wide condemnation from politicians, Jewish groups and others.

Surging Twitter antisemitism unites fringe, encourages violence, officials say

The criticism included users on the subreddit, where on Thursday afternoon, one person posted, “This is now a Taylor Swift Subreddit. We had a good run fellas.” Hours later, after the swastika tweet, another user declared the thread “officially a holocaust awareness sub,” and Holocaust-related posts began pouring in.

Reddit users post anonymously. A message sent to the moderators of r/Kanye from The Washington Post was not returned. Information posted on Reddit, like elsewhere on social media, is not verified by fact-checkers.

Attempts to reach Ye were unsuccessful.

Analysis: The GOP’s bet on Kanye West has gone very bad

Hate speech and antisemitism online can contribute to real-world violence, experts say, and the current political climate has increased fear among American Jews. An April review by the Anti-Defamation League, an organization that fights antisemitism, found that the U.S. saw a record number of antisemitic incidents in 2021, with an average of more than seven per day.

Pamela Nadell, director of American University’s Jewish Studies program, said she believes the United States is approaching a second “high tide of American antisemitism,” referencing the period between World War I and World War II that historians have generally termed the peak of antisemitism in the country.

That makes learning about the Holocaust and the Jewish experience with antisemitism “of great value” for all Americans, she told The Post.

“What has happened from October through the end of November … we have hit a point in American life where we now know that antisemitism is completely normalized,” she said, referring to Ye’s comments, his meeting with Trump and Fuentes and accusations of antisemitism that have also been recently leveled against basketball player Kyrie Irving. “There is certainly a rising sense of fear, justifiable fear. And I would say almost horror.”

Nadell recommended that people who want to learn more about the Holocaust start by looking at the website of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, which includes an encyclopedia.

A history lesson for Ye: Hitler would have sterilized your children

Ye’s actions have drawn outrage for weeks, from his wearing of a “WHITE LIVES MATTER” T-shirt at his Paris Fashion Week show to an antisemitic rant and false information about the murder of George Floyd on the podcast “Drink Champs.” A leaked portion of an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News also elicited condemnation, as did an October tweet by Ye saying he would go “death con 3” on “JEWISH PEOPLE.”

Ye was dropped by Adidas, Gap, Balenciaga and other companies and has been intermittently suspended on Twitter. On Thursday, right-leaning social app Parler announced that a deal for Ye to buy the company had been canceled. A spokesperson said it was “mainly due to his recent and well-publicized business difficulties.”

While some Redditors on r/Kanye posted messages of gratitude for the Holocaust material, others questioned why it had taken some fans so long to denounce Ye. One person who identified themselves as a “Jewish former Ye fan” urged people to learn about Jewish culture beyond the Holocaust, saying, “Antisemitism is not a thing of the past. … We need your allyship!”

Another person asked for reading material and movie recommendations, saying, “Thanks to Kanye I’m gonna learn more about the history of the Holocaust.”

Even discussing Ye’s antisemitism presents a dilemma, because it creates more publicity for his harmful remarks, said Leonard Saxe, director of the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University.

“I don’t know whether this Reddit approach of posting lots of remembrances and information about the Holocaust will work, but it’s probably better than directly talking about him and how odious his views are,” Saxe told The Post.

“It’s a terrible situation, this moment in time when hate and distrust and other social forces seem to be stronger than ever, but educating people about the Holocaust is important,” he said, adding, “Turning the focus on the peoples whose lives [Hitler] destroyed and remembering them, that’s a good thing.”

Idaho murders latest: Neighbour slams suspicion from Reddit sleuths as Moscow to hold vigils for students

Idaho student murders: Police believe four killed in ‘targeted attack’

A neighbour of the four murdered University of Idaho students has hit out at the Reddit sleuths who have cast suspicion on him in the wake of the brutal stabbings.

Student Jeremy Reagan said on Tuesday that he has “nothing to hide” but admitted that it was “upsetting being compared to a murderer” after his previous media interviews became the subject of intense scrutiny on social media.

His comments came as Moscow Police Department seized five cars from the home of the victims and took them to “a more secure long-term storage location to continue processing evidence”.

On Wednesday, the Moscow community will hold vigils in honour of slain students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kerndole and Ethan Chapin, who were found butchered in their beds back on 13 November.

The vigils were delayed until after the Thanksgiving break as terrified students fled the town. Police call logs analysed by The Independent reveal that, in the aftermath of the murders, locals remain on edge and have called 911 multiple times to report “suspicious” men and other disturbing incidents in the area.

1669813813

Here’s why 911 caller may have said ‘unconscious individual’:

Ever since the four victims were found stabbed to death in an off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, questions have been swirling around the 911 call.

The students are believed to have been killed at around 3am or 4am on the morning of 13 November. The attack was brutal with each victim stabbed multiple times.

However, police were not called to the home until a 911 call was made at 11.58am on Sunday, alerting officers to an “unconscious individual” in the home on King Road.

Police said that the roommates slept through the murders and when they woke up on the Sunday, they called some unidentified friends to the home because they believed that one of the victims on the second floor “had passed out and was not waking up”.

After the friends arrived on the scene, the 911 call was made from one of the surviving roommates’ cell phones inside the home.

The officers found the bodies of two of the victims on the second floor and the other two victims on the third floor.

It is unclear what the roommates and “other friends” had discovered prior to placing the call and what led them to describe a victim as merely “unconscious”.

Kaylee Goncalves’ father Steve Goncalves provided some explanation about the events inside the home in an interview with ABC’s GMA on Tuesday, including why the caller described a victim as “unconscious”.

“I know the girls reached out via texting and calling so I can only assume by the phones being ignored,” he said.

“Knowing how my daughter is… that she’s not going to ignore calls and texting.”

Kaylee Goncalves’ father reveals details mystery ‘private party’ ride

Kaylee Goncalves’ father has revealed details about the mystery “private party” who gave his daughter and her best friend Madison Mogen a ride home not long before they were brutally murdered.

Mogen and Goncalves spent the night of 12 November at The Corner Club sports bar in downtown Moscow, police said.

They then paid a visit to the Grub Truck – a nearby late-night food truck where they ordered a bite to eat.

From there, police said a “private party” gave them a ride home, arriving back at the three-storey property on King Road at around 1.56am on 13 November.

Steve Goncalves told ABC’s GMA on Tuesday that it was a sorority-designated driver service that drove the two young women home.

Sorority-designated driver services are programs specifically designed to ensure that sorority members get home safely.

Local pizza place and students send food to police working case

A local pizza place and University of Idaho students have been fundraising and delivering food to police officers working on the murder case.

A fundraiser set up on spotfund.com is welcoming donations from members of the public, with the money then used to place orders with Moscow business Pizza Perfection.

“The Moscow, Idaho police and other agencies are working tirelessly to solve the murders of the four students,” the fundraiser reads.

“Though it’s not going to change their lives, we will order 16 XL pizzas to be delivered to the 50 of them there on any given day,” it continued.

“Sometimes a small gesture of support can go a long way to these traumatized, tired, and dedicated workers.”

Ex-FBI agent says probe shouldn’t be ‘hampered’ because of remote learning

Jonathan Gilliam, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) special agent, said the investigation into the killing of four University of Idaho students shouldn’t be hampered because of the school’s decision to allow students to learn remotely after the Thanksgiving break.

“I don’t think the investigation is going to be hampered that much as long as the school and the police department are in touch with the students and ensuring them that they can call if they remember anything,” Mr Gilliam told Fox News.

“And I think that is what’s going to hamper things, is if they try to tamp this down and don’t stay in touch with the students and try to get people to refresh their memory, that could be an issue because people may have seen something that was a little bit out of the norm and they just tucked it away in their brain and didn’t say anything about it.”

Neighbour hits out at Reddit sleuths who claimed his media appearances were suspicious

A neighbour of the four Idaho murder victims has blasted internet sleuths who claimed that his media appearances were suspicious.

In a recent interview, Jeremy Reagan, a third-year law student from the Idaho University, said he went to bed early the night the murders took place. However, Reddit sleuths are finding his statements suspicious.

Mr Reagan addressed the online conspiracy theories about him and told Court TV on Tuesday that he “didn’t do it. I have nothing to hide. I’m willing to give DNA, fingerprints … whatever they need”.

In an earlier interview with Fox News, Mr Reagan had said, “I went to bed early that night” and “then a couple of hours later we got a message, and there was a bunch of police here. And then that was the end of normalcy for the past week or so here”.

Experts say law enforcement should not dismiss ‘incel’ angle

Forensic psychologist Kris Mohandie told Fox News Digital that the nature of the murder of the four University of Idaho students leads him to believe that law enforcement should take a close look at the suspect potentially being an “incel”.

“There’s a lot of hatred and anger that is evidenced in these crimes – the level of violence, the resolve, the obvious hostility in such a personal hands-on attack,” he said.

“That is a lot of intensity. So it is not inconsistent with somebody that may have that kind of motivation. There’s something hateful and rage-filled about it.”

Incel or “involuntary celibate” refers to an online misogynistic subculture of romantically frustrated men who fail to find partners.

Victim’s father reveals chilling reason family didn’t hold a funeral for her

The father of one of the four University of Idaho students stabbed to death says his family will not give her a funeral for fear that the “monster” who murdered her might attend.

Kaylee Goncalves was killed at an off-campus house in the city of Moscow, Idaho, in the early hours of 13 November, with police still hunting for the murderer.

Kaylee’s father, Steve Goncalves, says that the family has not been able to bring itself to have a commemoration for their daughter just yet.

“My wife’s biggest fear, part of the reason we didn’t have a funeral, is because she couldn’t be guaranteed that that monster was going to not be there,” he told ABC News.

Police seize five cars from crime scene

Police have seized five cars from the home where four University of Idaho students were brutally stabbed to death in a quadruple murder that has rocked the small college town of Moscow.

A tow truck removed the vehicles from outside the property on King Road on Tuesday – some of them believed to belong to the victims – and took them to “a more secure long-term storage location to continue processing evidence,” the Moscow Police Department said.

“Today, as part of the ongoing homicide investigation and original search warrant, there will be an increase in detective activity and tow trucks on-site as investigators move five vehicles from within the police perimeter to a more secure long-term storage location to continue processing evidence,” it said in a statement.

The vehices have reportedly already been searched by investigators, but will now undergo more detailed forensic analysis as the hunt for the killer continues.

The vehicles include two sedan cars, a Jeep Wrangler, and two SUVs that were parked outside the victims’ house on the night of the murders, according to Court TV.

Student urges university to do more to make campus feel safe

A University of Idaho student has opened up about the fear gripping her peers in the wake of the murders two weeks ago.

“There’s so much tension, there’s so much fear,” Megan Stanley told NewsNation as students returned from Thanksgiving break.

“With a couple of weeks left in the semester and finals approaching, campus should be full of students and really lively. And I feel like I’m only seeing a handful of students walking around.”

An apparel design student, Ms Stanley said some but not all of her classes have been moved online, meaning she and many others can’t finish the semester at home.

She said she and her peers “don’t really talk about” the killings because it’s so painful.

“We all know this is going on, but we don’t really talk about it because for a lot of us, it’s an emotional subject,” she said. “I didn’t know the victims personally, but a lot of my classmates who are in the Greek system did, and it’s a really hard subject to broach.”

Ms Stanley added that she wishes that more was being done by the university to make students feel safe.

“Scott Green, our president and Dr. (Blaine) Eckles, the dean of students — I’ve seen them tear up in the press conferences and everything. They’re feeling the same pain that we are,” she said.

“But I don’t feel that enough is being really done to reassure us as students or even just as a community.”

Mom Wants To Send Daughter To ‘Fat Camp’ After She Gained Weight But Ex-Husband Refuses

A mother is seeking advice after an argument with her ex-husband over their daughter’s weight.

The mother wants to send their overweight daughter to a sports camp geared toward helping her achieve a healthy weight.

However, her ex-husband is opposed to the idea, believing they are giving their daughter the wrong message by sending her to a “fat camp.”

She wants to send her daughter to a sports camp that will help maintain her weight after gaining a lot following her parents’ divorce.

Posting her story on the subreddit, r/AmItheA–-hole, the woman asked other Redditors if she was wrong about her decision.

She began her post by revealing that her 14-year-old daughter Abby, who she shares with her ex-husband, just hit 210 pounds.

RELATED: Mom Slammed For Revealing Her Plan To Kick Mentally Ill Stepdaughter Out Because Of Her ‘Poor Hygiene’

The teen gained a significant amount of weight when the woman’s divorce from her ex-husband was finalized.

“Growing up, Abby was always an average weight until we split custody,” the woman wrote.

While the woman and her ex were still married, she shared that she did most of the grocery shopping and cooking for the family to ensure they were eating a balanced diet.

She admits that Abby struggled with the divorce, but began going to therapy where she appeared to be doing well.

Her weight increased when she started going to her father’s half of the time.

“At the beginning, I just thought it was gaining weight before a growth spurt, but that wasn’t the case,” the woman wrote.

She claimed that her ex-husband was only feeding their daughter “junk food” when she stayed with him.

“He doesn’t cook and to make it worse he lives by if it is on your plate you eat it,” the woman wrote. “So in short he is giving her way to big portions of crap.”

The woman spoke to her ex-husband about the issue and asked if he could give their daughter smaller portion sizes, but she says he “will not budge.”

In an attempt to manage Abby’s weight, the woman got her involved in sports.

“She enjoys it for the most part but it’s not enough to stop the weight gain,” she wrote.

The concerned mother spoke to a doctor and a nutritionist about Abby’s weight gain, who both blamed it on the woman’s ex-husband feeding her an unhealthy amount of food.

Running out of options, the woman decided she would send Abby to a soccer camp on the days she was scheduled to stay at her father’s to control her weight.

“Abby seemed on board with the idea and this way her dad will not be feeding her or even really seeing her for the next couple of months,” the woman wrote.

RELATED: Mom Gives Popsicles With Secret Ingredient To Her Daughter & Unsuspecting Friend To Improve Their Grades

Although when the woman informed her ex-husband about sending Abby to camp, he disagreed with the decision.

“It was a big argument that he circled around to her weight. He accused me of sending her to a fat camp,” the woman shared.

She added that she is talking to lawyers to change their custody agreement so that she could keep track of Abby’s weight to ensure she stays healthy.

Many Redditors agreed with the woman’s decision and criticized her ex-husband for what he was doing to their daughter.

“What father is doing is abusive. forcing a child to overeat,” one user pointed out. “If he will not relent then I suggest you work with doctors and lawyers and get custody changed so that he doesn’t create long-lasting health problems in your child.”

“He is also wrong to refer to soccer camp as ‘fat camp.’” another user commented. “It’s great that OP [original poster] found an activity that her daughter enjoys and is also a healthy way to get more active.”

“My first thought when I read the title was ‘yikes!’ but Abby likes sports and it’s not even a ‘fat camp’ so if she wants to go, that should be all that matters,” another user added.

Overwatch 2 Chat Bug Is Randomly Buying Skins From The Shop

Image: Blizzard

Though Overwatch 2’s wait times have seemingly improved after maintenance on the game’s servers last night, you still might want to wait a bit if you’re looking for an entirely bug-free experience—especially if you don’t like bugs that might be spending premium currency on hero skins without your consent while using the in-game chat.

Though it’s not clear how common the issue is, it seems to have been hitting users since launch, if not earlier. The underlying issue appears to be that, while using the chat in a menu, the game keystrokes are still registered by the other menu options, meaning you could navigate your way to the store and end up buying a skin while you’re text chatting with friends. Posts about this on the game’s Bug Report forum go back to May, calling attention to it during the beta. Other posts have gone up since the game’s official release, and a rising post on Reddit is seeing others chime in with tales of their accounts also inadvertently buying premium hero skins.

Approaching 1,000 upvotes on Reddit, user Dracyoshi’s post lays out the issue directly. “I was chatting with some friends while browsing the hero gallery when the game unexpectedly began unlocking Junker Queen’s Plutonium skin,” they said. They go on to speculate that text typed into the chat is “occasionally misinterpreted by the game [as] an input for navigating the menu.”

Though they followed up with Blizzard support on the issue, there’s no indication that refunds or changes are on the way. Dracyoshi told Kotaku that, since posting, Blizzard still hasn’t resolved the issue and maintains that it won’t issue refunds for purchases made with in-game currency as far as this case is concerned.

Scrolling through the thread on Dracyoshi’s post reveals other players echoing the same issue. “My friend was a victim of this bug,” reads one comment, “accidentally purchased Kirkos legendary for 1900 credits while trying to chat.” “Oh my god this happened to me twice,” reads another, “I thought I was going crazy.”

For now, it seems like best practice is to follow Dracyoshi’s advice and not “use the in-game chat while in the hero gallery until it’s fixed.”

Kotaku has reached out to Blizzard for comment.

The Internet Can’t Stop Joking About Nier Automata’s Secret Door

Screenshot: Square Enix

Well, that was fast. Nier: Automata’s secret door—the very same one that’s fractured the game’s fandom into factions—went from an amusing little secret to a viral meme in three days flat.

The Door, in case you haven’t followed the most baffling gaming story of the year, refers to a hidden location in Nier: Automata, an action-RPG first released in 2017. One player, known only by their Reddit handle, Sadfutago, stumbled upon a door, behind which is a fully rendered church. It sounds innocuous enough, but here’s where it gets weird: They’re the only known player who’s seen this area. And no one, seemingly including Sadfutago, knows how to enter the room.

The whole saga is wild, and still unfolding (here’s a thorough rundown). Some think it’s cut content or some other type of legitimate game asset. Others believe it’s fake: a hoax, a sophisticated mod, or an ill-advised attempt at viral marketing. The mystery has fans gathering in various Nier-themed subreddits and Discord servers to try and collectively crack the code.

The rest of the internet, meanwhile, is doing what it does best: Meme the heck out of it. This montage sums up the community reaction pretty well:

What if, for instance, Super Mario 64 also had its own version of The Door?

Folks are also drawing comparisons to media outside the world of games. To wit: Actor-comedian Nathan Fielder is back in the public arena due to his new HBO show, The Rehearsal, in which he constructs elaborate sets for the purposes of trickery. The Nier community has drawn an obvious corollary:

Others have likened it to scenes from Amazon’s The Boys, an eminently memeable show:

For some players, the saga has rekindled a dormant love for Nier: Automata—one of the best games of all time, yes, but also a dense action-RPG that can consume hours and hours of your life:

Obligatory Hozier references abound:

Followed by obligatory Doctor Who references:

There’s also no shortage of eye-wateringly gorgeous fan art, like this piece from digital artist MalphieR:

Despite all the buzz, Nier: Automata fans are no closer to figuring out what the hell The Door’s deal is. Just last night, Sadfutago posted a new video. In it, they fight a boss composed of pixelated blocks…and get summarily obliterated. It has sent the Nier subreddits and Discord servers into a tizzy, as folks try to figure out who the enemy is, where it’s from, or what it could mean.

“I…can’t fathom how this can possibly be real or how this can possibly be fake,” one person wrote on Reddit in response. “What.”

Nier Automata Players Lose It Over Secret Room Nobody Can Enter

Gif: Sadfutago / Square Enix / Kotaku

Nier: Automata players are collectively losing their minds over a room. It’s not just any room: No one, save for seemingly one person, has been able to access it. Even the player who discovered the chamber doesn’t appear to know how to enter it, which makes the whole thing extra confounding.

It makes a certain degree of sense that Nier: Automata is still rife with secrets, given that the base game, a totemic action-RPG from PlatinumGames, is enigmatic enough on its own right before you factor in the mess of fan intervention. First released in 2017, Nier: Automata demanded you play through it multiple times to unlock its many endings. Also, you can see one of those endings by way of eating a fish. Weird game!

Yesterday, modder and dataminer Lance McDonald posted a clip to Twitter showing a player entering a room in the Copied City, an area in Nier: Automata known for its Bavarian architecture and absence of color. “No one else has worked out how they managed to make this secret door appear,” McDonald wrote. The video has picked up more than two millions views on Twitter; here’s the original:

While the secret is currently blowing up on social media, the whole has actually been going on for about two months, spurred by a cryptic series of Reddit posts by user Sadfutago. (Sadfutago did not respond to Kotaku’s request for comment.)

“Hello how do you open the church ?,” Sadfutago wrote on the incredibly niche (190 members) r/NieRFanart subreddit two months ago. “Hello, i’m new to reddit and want to know how to open the church in Nier’Automata [sic].”

No one responded.

A month later, Sadfutago reposted the same query, this time on Nier: Automata’s less-niche (19,000 members) dedicated subreddit. Players were incredulous but helpful.

“Can you describe the building you’re asking about a little more? There’s not really a ‘church’ that I can remember,” one wrote. “I don’t think you can enter any building in the copied city. We’re going to need some screenshots,” responded another. Sadfutago asked if there was a photo button on Reddit, and then shared a link to a page on Imgur, the popular photo-sharing platform, that showed two screenshots of Nier: Automata semi-protagonist A2 standing in a sparsely decorated church—a setting not previously known about in the the game.

No one responded.

Sadfutago then took to the definitively not-niche (168,000 members) primary Nier series subreddit, posting a video, filmed vertically on a cell phone, showing the location of this church: the back wall of the courtyard that serves as a chamber for the boss fight in Automata’s Copied City level. The clip cuts off right as A2 enters the room.

People responded this time, but many of the most prominent messages focused on disputing the clip’s veracity. One person “call[ed] BS.” Another pointed out how the footage shown thus far was paper-thin: The two screenshots were framed from a conveniently obfuscated perspective, the one clip of video evidence cut off at just the right moment, and why was the video filmed via cell phone and not, say, game-capture software anyway?

Over the weekend, Sadfutago posted a video clip that shuts all of those queries down. Over the course of 45 seconds, A2 enters an antechamber, descends a several-story-high ladder, and strolls down a grayscale hallway that leads to LotR-style twin doors, behind which lies the church.

Some skeptics raised the possibility that this is all a highly sophisticated mod, but, as McDonald pointed out on Twitter, Nier: Automata doesn’t allow for environmental modding to this degree. Plus, a follow-up clip contains previously unheard dialogue from A2—not the sort of thing modders could easily get. Anything is possible, of course, but there is a vanishingly small chance that this discovery is the result of a mod. This morning, Nier producer Yosuke Saito weighed in on Twitter, writing, “Eternal mystery…”

This latest discovery comes nearly two years after Nier: Automata players found the game’s “final” secret. Last January, the modder and dataminer Lance McDonald cracked open what was then believed to be the game’s “final” secret: a hidden cheat buried in the game’s code that essentially allows you to skip directly to the ending. Nier: Automata director (and notable jokester) Yoko Taro suggested it was the last thing players had yet to discover in the game, cryptically writing “three years and 10 months” on Twitter—a reference to how long it had been, at the time, since Nier: Automata came out. One of the official Automata Twitter accounts also said the “final secret” had been found. Nier’s community widely accepted that McDonald had indeed found the game’s final secret.

Turns out: Nope.

Much like how players of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are still making new discoveries—opening “impossible-to-open” chests, supercharging custom weapons—half a decade after its release, Nier: Automata has proven a wellspring for fascinating discoveries. I’m glad players aren’t done tapping it yet.

This Woman’s ‘Ignorant’ Husband Totally Invalidated Her Period Pain & Reddit Wasn’t Having It

It sounds like this Redditor’s husband needs a lesson in empathy — and basic gynecological health care.

/AmITheAsshole user QueenBumbleBrii took to the classic Subreddit to gauge whether she was in the wrong for calling her husband “stupid and ignorant about my uterus.” In her post, the Redditor explained that she has been experiencing increasingly uncomfortable menstrual periods since turning 30. She’s taken to discussing her symptoms — “fatigue and cramps,” to name a few — in a group chat with some friends, who understand her pain firsthand, instead of her husband.

The topic also came up in a conversation with QueenBumbleBrii’s mother, who suggested that she look into getting her “tubes tied” since she and her husband don’t want kids. (This procedure, formally known as a tubal ligation, has gained newfound popularity amid attacks on abortion access throughout the United States.) The Redditor said she was looking into hormonal birth control options to manage her symptoms instead.

Enter her husband: “He butts into the conversation to say I 100% do not need surgery or any hormonal treatment because ‘you are fine, only 4 days a month you suffer, and you always get through it just fine,’” she wrote. “‘There’s nothing wrong with you, you talk to your friends and think you have the same medical issues and think you need to get the same procedures or pills to fix a problem you don’t have!’ (Paraphrased)” Ouch. Invalidating much?

Needless to say, the Redditor was upset: “I got angry and told him again he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about and tried to educate him, but he just [cut] me off and [claimed] I only THINK I have issues with my period because I’m being influenced by other women’s stories like I’m some kind of menstruation hypochondriac.”

To make matters worse, her husband tried to school her by insisting that if she did have valid issues with her period, her gynecologist would have detected it “when she examined me/gave me a pap smear.” Newsflash, sir: Pap smears are conducted to screen for abnormal or cancerous cervical cells, not issues related to one’s menstrual cycle. And there’s few things worse than a cis-dude being loud and wrong about gynecological health.

He then accused her of “wanting to take the pill out of ‘spite,’” and not the very real medical symptoms she was experiencing. That disagreement quickly devolved into yelling.

In the comments, QueenBumbleBrii expressed guilt for not “[trying] harder to educate him.” But commenters had her back. “If [your husband] wasn’t willing to be open to what you were telling him, then it’s not on you to better rehearse your teaching method,” one user wrote. “You do not bear the responsibility of explaining periods to this man. That is not your job.”

“NTA,” added another commenter. “He completely is, though. You tell him how you feel physically, and he tries to do a ‘gotcha’, or argue against your own body? He is basically saying he knows more than you, and has no respect for your feelings (physical or emotional), how dare he?!”

Consider this your periodic reminder that “mansplaining” is unacceptable — especially when it comes to reproductive health issues — and no one knows a person’s own body better than they do.
