Ashton Kutcher publicly apologises to Harry Styles after awkward encounter at a karaoke party

Ashton Kutcher has publicly apologised to hitmaker Harry Styles for an extremely awkward encounter at a mutual friend’s karaoke party.

The actor, 44, admitted he had no idea who the former One Direction singer was when they first met which led to him making some embarrassing remarks.

Ashton revealed in an interview with Esquire that he and actress wife Mila Kunis attended their neighbour’s lavish party when the awkward run-in happened.

He explained that he had been left in awe after seeing a partygoer perform ABBA and felt compelled to go and compliment the performance.

As it turned out the performer was Harry, 29, with Ashton being none the wiser.

‘I’m sorry’: Ashton Kutcher has publicly apologised to hitmaker Harry Styles for an extremely awkward encounter at a mutual friend’s karaoke party

Ashton recalled: ‘I said “Man, I gotta tell you something. You’re like a karaoke ringer. You’re really good, like, really good.”‘

To which the singer humbly replied his thanks, saying he ‘appreciated’ the compliment.

To Ashton’s horror, his friend then informed him that it was a famous singer, with his wife Mila having to explain that Harry was in fact a big name in the music world and part of One Direction.

Ashton recalled: ‘I was like, “Oh my God, now I feel like a jerk,” . He’s a professional singer, and we’re trying to tell him he’s a good singer!’

He went on to issue a public apology via the magazine, saying: ‘I just really want to say I’m sorry, Harry Styles. But you’re really good at karaoke, man. Seriously, like really good.’

It comes after Harry was officially added to the growing roster of performers at the 2023 Grammy Awards, due to be held on February 5.

The As It Was hitmaker is nominated for an incredible six awards for his record-breaking album Harry’s House, which was released in May 2022.

Harry’s House is the former One Direction member’s third solo studio album since the boyband went on a ‘permanent hiatus’ in August 2015.

Awkward: The actor, 44, admitted he had no idea who the former One Direction singer was when they first met which led to him making some embarrassing remarks (Harry pictured in September)

The Don’t Worry Darling actor had the second-largest opening week for an album in 2022, behind Taylor Swift’s Midnights.

He also had four songs from the album on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, which makes him the first British solo artist to achieve this, and among all British acts, he joined The Beatles, who achieved the feat in 1964.

As It Was sat at number one on the Billboard charts for 15 consecutive weeks, becoming the longest-running US number one by a UK act and the fourth longest-running number-one in the chart’s history.

Oops: Mila Kunis had to inform Ashton that Harry was a famous singer and a member of One Direction (pictured in November)

Harry previously performed at the 2021 Grammys, where he donned a jaw-dropping all-leather outfit, complete with no shirt.

At the 2021 Grammy Awards, the Watermelon Sugar crooner was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album – Fine Line, Best Music Video – Adore You, and Best Pop Solo Performance – Watermelon Sugar, which he took home the award for.

For the 2023 Grammys, he is nominated for the three most coveted awards Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, and Song Of The Year.

He’s also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video.

Star power: It comes after Harry, who is nominated for six Grammy Awards, was officially announced as one of the performers at the 2023 ceremony, due to be held on February 5

Damar Hamlin updates: Bills safety releases video to speak publicly for first time since cardiac arrest

In a six-minute video released Saturday, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin spoke at-length for the first time since suffering a near-fatal cardiac arrest after making a tackle during a Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. In the introduction to the video, Hamlin explains that he waited to speak until the time was right, explaining that his situation was a lot to process mentally, physically, and spiritually while also citing the end of the Bills’ season.

Hamlin began by expressing his gratitude and appreciation for the support that has been extended towards him, before thanking an extensive amount of people and groups.

“What happened to me on Monday Night Football, I feel, is a direct example of God using me as a vessel to share my passion and my love directly from my heart with the entire world,” Hamlin said. “And now I’m able to give it back to kids and communities all across the world who need it the most. That’s always been my dream, that’s always been what I’ve stood for and what I will continue to stand for.”

Hamlin then thanked the Bills’ training, athletic, and medical staffs as well as the staffs of UC Medical Center and Buffalo General Hospital, all of whom were involved with his life-saving treatment and subsequent care. Hamlin then thanked his mother and father, his little brother, and other family and friends before thanking the Bills’ fanbase.

“Ever since I became a Buffalo Bill, it’s been nothing but genuine love and support. Not even only for me, but everyone’s situation,” Hamlin said. “No matter what it was, Bills Mafia jumped behind it and gave 110% support, love, no matter the situation. With this happening to me, I didn’t feel anything short of the love. And it really helped me stay encouraged to get through the toughest moments and the toughest times. I really can’t thank you enough.”

Hamlin then thanked his Bills teammates before going on to extend his thanks to the city of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the rest of the NFL for the outpouring of support that was shown in the days and week of football that followed Hamlin’s medical episode.

“You put humanity above team loyalty. You showed the world unity over division,” Hamlin said. “I am not surprised by it, but I am deeply grateful and I will be forever thankful and indebted to that.”

Finally, Hamlin thanked the children who sent him letters and gifts while he was recovering, and he also thanked those who donated to Chasing M’s Foundation. The Foundation, which Hamlin started prior to his NFL career to give back to children in his native Western Pennsylvania, received nearly $8 million in donations after his near-fatal injury.

“This is just the beginning of the impact that I wanted to have on the world,” Hamlin said in closing. “And with God’s guidance, I will continue to do wonderful and great things. I couldn’t do this without any of the support and the love, and I can’t wait to continue to take you all on this journey with me.”

Midway through the first quarter of the Bills’ Week 17 game against the Bengals, Hamlin collided with Tee Higgins as he tackled the Bengals’ star wide receiver after a gain of 13 yards. Hamlin immediately collapsed upon standing, prompting the Bills’ medical staff to administer emergency medical treatment. Hamlin was taken off the field via ambulance and transported to UC Medical Center after receiving CPR and an automated external defibrillation (AED), where he remained in critical condition for some time. The game was abandoned and never resumed.

Hamlin, a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, started 13 games this season in place of an injured Micah Hyde.

U.N. publicly rejects Russia’s call for secret vote on Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS, Oct 10 (Reuters) – The United Nations General Assembly voted on Monday to reject Russia’s call for the 193-member body to hold a secret ballot later this week on whether to condemn Moscow’s move to annex four partially occupied regions in Ukraine.

The General Assembly decided, with 107 votes in favor, that it would hold a public vote – not a secret ballot – on a draft resolution that condemns Russia’s “illegal so-called referenda” and the “attempted illegal annexation.” Diplomats said the vote on the resolution would likely be on Wednesday or Thursday.

Only 13 countries on Monday opposed holding a public vote on the draft resolution, another 39 countries abstained and the remaining countries – including Russia and China – did not vote.

Russia had argued that Western lobbying meant that “it may be very difficult if positions are expressed publicly.” During the meeting on Monday Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia questioned the push to condemn Moscow.

“What does this have to do with peace and security or trying to settle conflicts?” said Nebenzia, describing it as “yet one more step towards division and escalation, which I’m sure is not something the absolute majority of states in this room need.”

After the General Assembly decided on Monday that it would hold a public vote on the draft resolution, Russia immediately tried to get the body to reconsider the issue, but it overwhelmingly failed.

Moscow has moved to annex four partially occupied regions in Ukraine – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia – after staging what it called referendums. Ukraine and allies have denounced the votes as illegal and coercive.

The draft U.N. General Assembly resolution calls on states not to recognize Russia’s move and reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

‘TRAIL OF BLOOD’

Ukraine’s U.N. Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya called on countries to defend the principles of the founding U.N. Charter.

“A trail of blood is left behind the Russian delegation when it enters the General Assembly and the hall is filled up with the smell of smoldering human flesh. That’s what we have tolerated in Syria. That’s what is happening today in Ukraine,” he told the General Assembly on Monday.

Russia rained cruise missiles on busy Ukrainian cities on Monday in what the United States called “horrific strikes”, killing civilians and knocking out power and heat with its most widespread air attacks since the start of the war more than seven months ago.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed the international community earlier on Monday to make clear that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions were “completely unacceptable.”

“Now is the time to speak out in support for Ukraine; it is not the time for abstentions, placating words, or equivocations under claims of neutrality. The core principles of the U.N. Charter are at stake,” Blinken said in a statement.

Russia vetoed a similar resolution in the 15-member Security Council last month. It has been trying to chip away at its international isolation after nearly three-quarters of the General Assembly reprimanded Moscow and demanded it withdraw its troops within a week of its Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.

The moves at the United Nations mirror what happened in 2014 after Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea. At the Security Council Russia vetoed a draft resolution that opposed a referendum on the status of Crimea and urged countries not to recognize it.

The General Assembly then adopted a resolution declaring the referendum invalid with 100 votes in favor, 11 against and 58 formal abstentions, while two dozen countries didn’t take part.
