Samsung will offer free storage upgrade for Galaxy S23 pre-orders

We reported yesterday that Samsung might increase the pricing of its high-end phones, starting with the Galaxy S23. This price hike is possible in Australia, Europe, South Korea, and many other countries worldwide. However, the company could compensate for the price hike with a special pre-order offer.

Tipster Roland Quandt spotted specific terms and conditions on Samsung UK’s business website. The information reveals that pre-ordering any Galaxy S23 series device will allow buyers to get a free upgrade to a higher storage variant. For example, if someone pre-orders a Galaxy S23 by paying for its 128GB version, they will get a 256GB version without any additional charge. Similar is the case with the Galaxy S23+ and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

So, most users in the UK will get a 256GB version of the Galaxy S23, while Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra buyers who pre-order the device will get 512GB versions of the phones as they start at 256GB for their base versions. A similar pre-order offer could be available in most parts of the world, but not all. Last year, too, Samsung had a similar offer for the Galaxy S22 series in the US and some other markets, but the offer could be widespread this time.

In addition, the company is offering a $50 in-store Samsung credit to those who pre-reserve a Galaxy S23. The South Korean firm may also provide additional pre-order benefits in many countries, but those offers might vary depending on the market. In India, the company will offer access to exclusive color variants of the Galaxy S23 to those who pre-order the device. Such exclusive colors could be available in more markets worldwide.

LIVE PSVR 2 pre-orders stock updates: reserve a PlayStation VR 2 headset

PSVR 2 pre-orders will be available online today, November 15. You should expect a tough time reserving one though despite that high price ($549/£529) and the fact the release date isn’t until February 22 next year.

So yes, much like the PS5, the brand-new PlayStation VR 2 headset will almost certainly sell out straight away. To make things even harder, you’ll find that your usual gaming stores might not get PSVR 2 stock straight away. That’s because Sony has said that the new VR headset will “initially” only be sold directly from its own website, with retail partners being cut out of the equation.

Does that mean the first day, week, month… year? That, we imagine, will all very much depend on how well this initial phase goes. If Sony easily sells the first batch of PSVR 2 preorders itself, it might feel it can keep it going without retail support. If sales slow, or the preorders aren’t as hot as hoped, then you might see Sony reevaluate its relationship with retailers to help shift the new headset.

Sony’s done quite well selling PS5 units directly over the last couple of years, so we’re not too surprised it’s trying this method first. Even so, we’ll tell you how to register at the PlayStation store (aka Sony Direct), but also list some other retailers worth keeping an eye on just in case they suddenly get stock in these early days. We’ll also tell you about any games, bundles, or accessories that appear online in our live report below.

US PSVR 2 preorders: check these stores

Head over to the PlayStation store first, especially today on the first official day of PSVR 2 preorders, as Sony has confirmed stock will be available there before other retailers. Currently, the other stores only list the older VR headset, Oculus, or random gaming picks when searching for PSVR 2 preorders, but that could all change at any time. We’ll keep checking them all for signs of life.

UK PSVR 2 preorders: check these stores

The PlayStation Store should be the first place you try. The other retailers currently only seem to show last-gen PSVR, other VR price cuts, or just some random games when looking for the new model at this time. We’ll keep updating the links below.

Report: Diablo 4 could be launching in April 2023, with preorders going live December

What you need to know

  • Diablo 4 is the next installment in the legendary action RPG series from Blizzard.
  • A rumor over the summer suggested that Diablo 4 may be getting revealed at The Game Awards in December, and we now have some tentative corroboration.
  • Reported on the XboxEra podcast and corroborated by our own sources, it seems Diablo 4 could be targeting an April 2023 launch window.
  • The game should go live for preorder during The Game Awards 2022 if the rumors are correct, alongside various digital editions and a premium collector’s edition with some rather fiery goodies.

Diablo 4 (also known as Diablo IV) is already officially slated for 2023, but now we may have narrowed it down to a specific month.

Diablo 4 is the latest installment in Blizzard’s legendary action RPG franchise. Set in the gothic world of Sanctuary, players are caught in the crossfire between the forces of heaven and hell, whose eternal war threatens the world of the living. Diablo 4 promises to return to the franchise’s hardcore, dark roots, taking on feedback from Diablo 3’s oft-criticized “cartoony” appearance. Diablo 4 looks bloody as hell, (and bloody awesome too), and it could be launching a little sooner than perhaps some had expected.

As discussed on today’s XboxEra podcast, the team there revealed the possibility of Diablo 4 launching in April 2023. We can also tentatively corroborate the April 2023 launch window via our own proven sources, alongside some other details.

Rumors appearing over the summer revealed that Diablo 4 would be announced at The Game Awards, originally leaking via the /r/classicwow subreddit. We have seen additional evidence that appears to confirm this rumor, alongside various beta windows.

According to XboxEra and our sources, Blizzard is planning a sizeable marketing blitz for Diablo 4, starting at The Game Awards 2022 where the game’s April launch window should be revealed. Additionally, preorders should open too during the show, including various digital editions and a premium physical collector’s edition with various goodies for hardcore fans. If our information is correct, one of the preorder benefits will be access to Diablo 4’s open beta in February 2023.

Although there was likely little doubt about this, we can confirm that Blizzard is planning a season-based live service for Diablo 4, supported by microtransactions (MTX) as the company has previously discussed on its official blog. According to our information, Season 1 is tentatively scheduled for Q3, despite the game launching in April.

Microsoft is currently working to acquire Activision Blizzard for $69 billion dollars. Microsoft has previously commented that it aims to close the deal by the summer of 2023, meaning that there’s a non-trivial chance that Diablo 4 could hit Xbox Game Pass by the time Diablo 4’s first season launches towards the end of the summer. Diablo 4 could be a silver bullet for Xbox Cloud Gaming and PC Game Pass growth — given the game’s phone-friendly fixed camera isometric perspective, and Diablo’s PC legacy.

Blizzard has been on an upward trend lately, after a tumultuous few years. Overwatch 2 is on the up and up, and World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is slated to launch in the next couple of weeks. Diablo Immortal has been generating crazy revenue too, despite criticisms of its monetization. As I teased over the summer, Hearthstone also just announced its next expansion, which includes a new Death Knight class.

As always, plans can shift and change, so you should always take rumors like this with a pinch of salt. But we’re pretty confident about this one. You should definitely keep an eye on this year’s Game Awards 2022 show to find out if it’s all true on December 8.

Next up is Best Buy! Here are all the listings for the mighty RTX 4090:

Some are sold out already so act fast if you want to secure an RTX 4090!

The NVIDIA RTX 4090 is officially available right now! NVIDIA announced on Twitter the availability of the flagship RTX 40 graphics card. To kick things off, we’ve spotted countless live NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics cards listings on Newegg:

So we’re expecting stock to come online in just under 90 minutes’ time now, but that’s still far from confirmed. Our advice though, if you’d be happy buying from any of the stores above, is get everything else ready.

Get yourself signed in, make sure your payment and delivery details are already entered on your account to make the transaction as quick and as smooth as possible if you’re able to get an RTX 4090 into your basket.

We’ve seen plenty of retailer sites struggle and crash during launch events like this, so the less time you have to spend entering information and loading new screens, the better. If you picked up a GPU or next-gen console in recent times, you may well be aware of what we’re talking about here.

That, or it’ll be easy because nobody can afford a damn $1600 GPU right now!

NVIDIA is launching the mighty GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card today and it’s quite literally larger than the Xbox Series S. The price could also be considered colossal, starting at an MSRP of $1,599, but so too is the performance with NVIDIA claiming this graphics card could be used for stable (and enjoyable) 8K gaming.

We’ve had some serious issues with the supply of graphics cards in recent years, but there should be better availability of this new flagship GPU from launch later today. Here, on this live blog, you’ll see contributions from Senior Editors Cale Hunt and Richard Edmonds, as well as other Windows Central staff, as we cover the launch.

Google Pixel Watch preorders — price and how to get yours

Pixel Watch preorders are now live.  The new smartwatch made its long-awaited debut with the Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro at today’s Google October event.

Although Google has made software for wearables for years, the Pixel Watch will be the search giant’s first smartwatch. Google teased the Pixel Watch at its Google I/O conference last May, but now it’s official. The Pixel Watch will start at $349 for a GPS/Bluetooth model or $399 for an LTE-compatible version. The watches include 3 months of YouTube Music Premium as well as 6 months of Fitbit Premium.

That said, Pixel Watch preorders will face stiff competition from the Apple Watch Series 8 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. Nevertheless, we expect to see plenty of Pixel Watch preorder deals now that Google’s event has come to a close. Below we’ve rounded up a few retailers and carriers with early Pixel Watch preorder deals.

Make sure to follow our Google Pixel event live blog to get the latest news on the new Pixels and all Google announcements.

GameStop Pre-Orders Are A Major Mess Right Now, Staff Say

Photo: SOPA Images (Getty Images)

“Is there anything you want to pre-order?” Almost nobody walks in and out of a GameStop without hearing those words. Employees are measured against how many pre-orders they can rack up while GameStop rakes in the cash months ahead of a game’s actual release. But lately, the strategy has been sabotaged by a system overhaul, with copies arriving late or not at all, and some staff are worried they’ll be the ones paying the price.

Over the last few days, the GameStop subreddit has been flooded with current staff complaining about computer issues, ranging from borked inventory searches to pre-order histories that have been completely wiped out before stores received their shipments. “How do I push pre-orders when we can’t get crap in?” reads one post. “Customers are understandably upset and our regulars are even just ordering offline now because we can’t fulfill the niche stuff…”

Three GameStop employees Kotaku spoke with echoed similar issues. They trace the problem back to an SAP software conversion that began taking place over the summer. It was apparently supposed to merge multiple databases, including sales, customer service, logistics, and more. GameStop did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The inventories in our systems are unreliable right now,” one employee wrote in an email. “We are receiving shipments from the warehouse that do not even appear on our receiving lists, so they’ve got us opening the boxes, recording the inventories, and emailing them back to inventory control. It took me the better part of my day today to process just four boxes this way.”

Which games are the casualties in this current pre-order crisis? NBA 2K23, one of the biggest sports games of the year, is one. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is another. But some of the hardest hit games are niche titles like Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero. They have small but passionate fan-bases, and stores often only get a few copies specifically for the dedicated players who pre-order in advance.

“Pre-orders have been hell recently,” said another employee at a different store. “We were shorted on multiple copies of NBA 2K and collectible pre-orders never arrive on time. We can only refund pre-order cancels as store credit if it’s been longer than a month too, it doesn’t matter if you paid cash or not.”

While staff have to try to explain to frustrated customers why the copy of a game they already spent money on never showed up, the back-end issues are also seemingly messing up how stores record the very sales goals employees are measured against. “Unfortunately, pre-orders also became [a] key metric stores are being graded on and when you cancel a pre-order it actually puts stores in a negative [count],” one employee said. Theirs was negative 22. “People are actually getting in trouble over this.”

“I’ve had 6 customers cancel their preorders because they didn’t get theirs,” one person posted on the subreddit yesterday. “Boss [is] getting on me about getting preorders but I can’t help it [if] people are beginning to lose trust in us. What’s the point in pre-ordering a game if you can’t get it anyway.” Some stores have been instructed to deal with the cancellations by offering to re-order the game and having it sent directly to the customer’s house, one employee said. But they hadn’t heard of any long-term fix beyond that.

The pre-order fiasco couldn’t be coming at a worse time, either. September is the start of the busy holiday game release calendar, and while 2022 is sparser than past years, GameStop needs all the help it can get. The meme stock has been on a brutal rollercoaster ride since its split in July, and it’s not clear how much a heavily publicized pivot to NFTs and crypto will actually benefit the company.

More importantly, it’s another burden borne by burnt out staff who are working more for less. GameStop recently announced fraught stock bonuses for store managers that don’t begin to vest until next year, and measly $0.50 raises for everyone else. At the same time, however, the company’s been tightening the screws, forcing managers to cover multiple stores, while others effectively do the job of an assistant store manager for no extra pay.

“I actually told my manager the other day that I’m going to be quitting right before he takes his second store, because without our assistant manager I’m pretty much gonna have to work as the assistant manager without the pay and with the stress,” said one current employee. “I don’t even have a new job lined up yet, I just don’t want to deal with it.”
