Thruster Test on Leaking Soyuz Spacecraft at Space Station – U.S. Spacewalk Postponed

NASA is supporting the ongoing investigation with the use of the Canadarm2 robotic arm to provide additional viewing of the Soyuz exterior on Sunday, December 18. To accommodate this change in plans, NASA has postponed the upcoming U.S. spacewalk to install an International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array (iROSA), which was originally scheduled for Monday, December 19. The new target date for the spacewalk is Wednesday, December 21.

The Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft carried NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin into space after launching from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on September 21.

The leak was first detected on December 14 at around 7:45 p.m. EST, when data pressure sensors in the cooling loop showed low readings. At that time, Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin were preparing to conduct a spacewalk. The spacewalk was canceled, so the cosmonauts did not exit the space station or become exposed to the leaking coolant. From data analysis and cameras aboard the space station, the majority of fluid had leaked out by yesterday, December 15, around 1:30 p.m. EST.

More updates will be provided as data becomes available.

On station, the Expedition 68 crew members set up a variety of advanced research gear to capture high-definition video of Earth and house biology samples for observation.

Flight Engineers Josh Cassada and Frank Rubio reviewed spacewalk robotics activities with Flight Engineers Nicole Mann of NASA and Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (

Prokopyev and Petelin cleaned their Orlan spacesuits and stowed their spacewalking tools following the postponement of Wednesday night’s spacewalk.

Flight Engineer Anna Kikina also worked on post-spacewalk activities returning the station’s Russian segment to normal and checking radiation sensors worn on the Orlan suits. Kikina wrapped up her day treating surfaces inside the Zarya module with an anti-fungal agent to maintain cleanliness and health aboard the station.

Prosecutors want $100 million NJ deli SEC case postponed

Hometown Deli, Paulsboro, N.J.

Mike Calia | CNBC

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey want the Securities and Exchange Commission to postpone its civil case against the alleged masterminds behind a $100 million fraud scheme involving a small-town deli so it won’t get in the way of their ongoing criminal case.

Prosecutors for the District of New Jersey filed a motion on Wednesday saying the SEC’s case “substantially” overlaps with their ongoing criminal case and the civil matter should be postponed until the litigation, including a potential trial, is completed, court records show.

Postponing the civil case would “preserve the integrity” of the ongoing prosecution by preventing the defendants from seeing the extent of the government’s evidence against them, federal prosecutors argued in the filing.

During the discovery phase of civil and criminal matters, defendants have the ability to see the evidence that’s going to be used against them in trial but they have access to far more materials in civil matters because the confines are broader.

The SEC and the attorneys for the suspects consented to the request, which is common in such cases. Judge Christine O’Hearn has yet to rule on the matter.

A telephone conference is scheduled in the criminal case for Dec. 14, but it’s expected to be mostly procedural and an opportunity for the prosecutors and defense attorneys to update the judge on the status of the litigation.

In September, James Patten and father-and-son duo Peter Coker Sr. and Peter Coker Jr. were arrested and charged with securities fraud for allegedly orchestrating a scheme that inflated the prices of two publicly traded companies, Hometown International and E-Waste Corp, a shell company.

Makamer, a bioplastics startup, merged with Hometown International, earlier this year.

Even though Hometown International’s only asset was Your Hometown Deli, a now-closed tiny sandwich shop in Paulsboro, New Jersey, that had under $40,000 in annual revenue, the trio used manipulative trading to inflate its market capitalization to more than $100 million, prosecutors alleged.

The scheme began when Patten convinced the owner of Your Hometown Deli, esteemed local high school wrestling coach and principal Paul Morina, to put the restaurant under the control of Hometown International, an umbrella company they created, prosecutors alleged

“Unbeknownst to the deli owners, almost immediately after Hometown International was formed, Patten and his associates began positioning Hometown International as a vehicle for a reverse merger that would yield substantial profit to them,” prosecutors said previously in a news release.

“Shortly thereafter, Patten, Coker Sr., and Coker Jr. undertook a calculated scheme to gain control of Hometown International’s management and its shares from the deli owners.”

The men concocted a similar scheme to take control of E-Waste. The tactics “artificially inflated” the values of Hometown International and E-Waste stock by 939% and 19,900%, respectively, prosecutors said.

Coker Sr. and Patten have pleaded not guilty.

Patten’s attorney Ira Sorkin, the high-profile litigator who once repped the notorious Ponzi scheme fraudster Bernie Madoff, didn’t comment when asked whether the case is expected to go to trial.

Coker Sr.’s attorney Marc Agnifilo, who previously defended “pharma bro” Martin Shkreli and disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein, couldn’t be reached. It’s not clear whether the Hong Kong-based Coker Jr. has an attorney, and he remains a fugitive. Morina didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Patten, Coker Sr. and Coker Jr. were charged a little over a year after Hometown International’s dubious stock was revealed by hedge fund manager David Einhorn in a letter to clients warning of the dangers retail investors face.

“Someone pointed us to Hometown International (HWIN), which owns a single deli in rural New Jersey … HWIN reached a market cap of $113 million on February 8. The largest shareholder is also the CEO/CFO/Treasurer and a Director, who also happens to be the wrestling coach of the high school next door to the deli,” Einhorn said in the April 2021 letter. “The pastrami must be amazing.”

After news of the indictment broke, he quipped on Twitter: “I guess the Pastrami wasn’t so great.”

Latest statement from Panda Global announces that Dr. Alan is no longer CEO, Panda Cup postponed due to security concerns

Posted by ‘EventHubs’ • 3 hours, 50 minutes ago • Comments: 13

Update: Alan Bunney has now released his first public statement since the Smash World Tour accusations were made, which you can find in the story below.

Panda Global has been facing a lot of controversy as of late due to the alleged actions of its CEO, Dr. Alan Bunney, who reportedly been threatened to shut down tournaments and their organizers over the past year with multiple corroborations. After the first statement released by Panda was not well received by the Super Smash Bros. community, over 80% of the sponsored fighting game division has apparently since resigned.

Earlier today, Panda Global released a new statement indicating that Dr. Alan Bunney is longer the CEO of Panda Global. Additionally, they announced the Panda Cup 2022 Finale is being postponed due to security concerns.

The Panda Cup Finale was originally scheduled to take place from December 15, 2022 and last until December 17, 2022. The Panda Cup circuit was officially sponsored by Nintendo and was the first one to ever score a license for a competitive tour.

Panda Global officially launched with Dr. Alan Bunney as co-founder and CEO back in 2015. As of right now, it’s unknown how involved with Panda Global Dr. Alan Bunney will be aside from his removal as the CEO.

In previous statements made by the Smash World Tour team, it’s been indicated that Nintendo cancelled that Smash World Tour 2022 Championship and the Smash World Tour 2023 circuit. However, Nintendo released two statements that conflicted with what was said by the Smash World Tour team by stating that they only weren’t issuing the 2022 championship and 2023 circuit licenses, and claimed that the decision to cancel was a decision that was and still is the Smash World Tour team’s.

Seemingly in response to these events, Ludwig recently announced the “The Scuffed World Tour” to take place on December 18, 2022. It likely wasn’t a coincidence that it was scheduled for the original finals day of Panda Cup 2022.

Alan Bunney has now made his first public comment since the Smash World Tour open letter was posted on November 29, where he claims he has evidence the SWT organizers lied and Beyond the Summit leadership “put the community in jeopardy.”

“I’ve stepped down as CEO of Panda to protect the safety and wellbeing of the team,” wrote Bunney on Twitter. “My statement (with evidence) is coming.”

Organizers for the Smash World Tour accused Bunney of improper conduct and mob-like behavior when attempting to recruit tournaments for the Panda Cup, which was corroborated by multiple event runners including Beyond the Summit.

Panda acknowledged Dr. Alan’s bad interaction with BTS and said in their first statement that a separate team had been established afterwards to handle event relations.

Most of the community did not respond well to Panda’s first statement, which came 3 days after the Smash World Tour’s open letter and seemingly downplayed their involvement in any of the Smash Bros. drama that is / was unfolding.

This extended to Panda’s own staff with 8 confirmed members of their sponsored eSports fighting game team publicly stating their resignations from the company while most others removed some or all mentions of the team on their social media sites — plus more on the production and PGStats parts of the company.

These allegations also put the Panda Cup Finale in jeopardy as well with 19 invited competitors revealing their intentions to pull out of the tournament.

With less than 2 weeks to spare, postponing the Panda Cup Finale may have been the only recourse to make sure the event can continue on, but right now there’s a question mark as to when that’ll eventually be.

For years, Panda had built itself up to be one of the largest eSports teams in Smash and the FGC with strides being made to create their own content and obviously, create their own events.

What the future holds for Panda Global and the rest of the Smash community plus the entire relationship with Nintendo is still up in the air as well, and Dr. Alan’s statement indicates that this ride is not over yet.

You can read Panda’s full statement below.

Panda has heard the concerns of the Smash community and is taking immediate action. Alan is no longer CEO, effective immediately.

In the interim, Panda employees are working with outside advisors to form a temporary Interim Management Committee (IMC) to act as CEO to navigate this critical time. The identities of those in the IMC will not be made public at this time due to concerns over harassment and safety.

The IMC’s immediate priorities are:

• Work with any team member that desires to resign, including release from any contractual obligations.

• Support those who feel displaced through these events to find a home – either with Panda or another organization.

Panda is committed to demonstrating out dedication to the community, and everyone who shares our passion. Panda is committed to do our part to move the competitive Smash community above and beyond the current situation, starting with a internal restructure and a rededication to our values as members of this community.

We call on the community to treat those affected by these events with grace, understanding, and to call out and report any attempts of doxing or harassment.

Additionally, due to security concerns for our staff and contractors, the Panda Cup Finale is postponed. The IMC will work to issue refunds to all those who registered in the coming weeks.

New Mexico State-New Mexico basketball game postponed after shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico State-New Mexico men’s basketball game scheduled for Saturday was postponed after a 19-year-old man was killed and a 21-year-old man was wounded in a predawn shooting at the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque.

The shooting took place at about 3 a.m. Saturday and the wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, police said. His condition was not immediately disclosed.

Albuquerque police called the shooting “a singular incident” and not a threat to other students on campus.

“This is not an active shooter,” the department said.

The university issued alerts overnight notifying the campus community that the shooting happened near Alvarado Hall, a student dormitory.

University and Albuquerque police are investigating the shooting. State police said the investigation was in the preliminary stages, but that authorities did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the community.

Steve Kirkland, University of New Mexico athletic director, said in a statement that officials from both schools decided to postpone the evening basketball game.

“Our thoughts are with all of those impacted by this tragedy,” the statement said, adding that details would be released later about rescheduling the game and refunds.

The Rio Grande Rivalry matchup between the Lobos (3-0) and the Aggies (1-1) had been scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at The Pit, where the athletic department said more than 13,000 tickets had been sold.

World Series Game 3 postponed: Rain moves Phillies-Astros to Tuesday, changes schedule for 2022 Fall Classic

Getty Images

The Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies will have to wait one more day to resume the 2022 World Series. Game 3 of the Fall Classic has been postponed due to rain, MLB announced Monday evening just about an hour before first pitch. It will instead be played Tuesday, and the rest of the series will be pushed back one day. There will still be an off-day for travel between Thursday’s Game 5 and, if necessary, Friday’s Game 6.

Here is the updated 2022 World Series schedule:

  • Monday, Oct. 31: Postponed
  • Tues, Nov. 1: Game 3 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Philadelphia
  • Weds, Nov. 2: Game 4 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Philadelphia
  • Thurs, Nov. 3: Game 5 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Philadelphia
  • Fri., Nov. 4: Off day
  • Sat., Nov. 5: Game 6 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Houston (if necessary)
  • Sun., Nov. 6: Game 7 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Houston (if necessary)

Monday’s postponement is the first in the Fall Classic since Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.

Light rain started to fall at Citizens Bank Park around 6 p.m. ET and will increase in intensity around 9 p.m. ET, and continue until early Tuesday morning. Current conditions suggest the Astros and Phillies could begin Game 3 as scheduled, but once the rain intensifies later in the night, they would have to hit pause and the game would likely be suspended. MLB makes all weather-related decisions in the postseason and the league prefers to play an uninterrupted nine innings whenever possible.

Here was the hourly forecast for Monday night via CBS News Philadelphia:

There is rain in the forecast through the night for Game 3.
CBS News Philadelphia

When the World Series finally resumes Tuesday, Phillies left-hander Ranger Suárez (10-7, 3.65 ERA) and Lance McCullers Jr. (4-2, 2.27 ERA) are scheduled to be the starting pitchers.

Coincidentally enough, Philadelphia was the site of MLB’s most infamous World Series weather quandary. Game 5 of the 2008 World Series was suspended due to rain in the sixth inning. The Rays tied the game 2-2 in the previous half-inning while the clubs played through a downpour. Afterward, then-commissioner Bud Selig declared all World Series game must be a full nine innings.

“I was not going to allow that to happen,” Selig told the Associated Press when asked about the possibility of a rain-shortened World Series. “I have to use my judgment. The game would have been in a rain delay until weather conditions allowed us to continue. And that might have been 24 hours or 48 hours or who knows?”

Game 5 continued the next day and the Phillies clinched their first World Series championship since 1980 thanks to Pedro Feliz’s seventh-inning RBI single.
