Houston patients struggle to find Ozempic as popularity for weight loss drugs skyrockets across social media
HOUSTON – The drug Semaglutide was initially marketed under the name Ozempic to manage type two diabetes. Last year, Semaglutide was approved by the FDA to be used for weight loss under the name Wegovy.
Social media has nicknamed them “skinny pens” because they help people drop significant weight quickly, leading to the popularity and a shortage of both Ozempic and Wegovy.
The drug manufacturer Novo Nordisk confirms it’s struggling to meet demand and Houston patients, like Lauren Luman, say she doesn’t know what she’ll do.
“I reached out to my doctor again letting them know that I was still experiencing that shortage, at that time they were able to give me some more samples, but they said, ‘We’re not sure how long we’re going to continue to have the samples available,’” Luman said.
Ozempic helped Luman lose weight and control her blood sugar. Now, she says she’s getting the same answer at every pharmacy she visits.
“It’s been weeks or months since they’ve had any supply,” Luman said.
Endocrinologists have said they’re frustrated patients cannot find their medication. However, endocrinologist Dr. Disha Narang, suggests there’s a need for successful weight loss drugs on the market.
“Our nation is, you know, there’s an epidemic of obesity as well and we need to treat the obesity to prevent diabetes in the first place,” Dr. Narang said.
Doctors are not doing anything wrong by prescribing Ozempic for obesity. According to the FDA, healthcare professionals can choose to prescribe drugs off-label when medically appropriate.
“Its intended use is for it to be an anti-diabetic prescription,” Luman said. “So, if people are taking it just for the sake of weight loss, I feel like maybe they should step back and allow the people that have type two diabetes and really need it to lower their A1C the ability to get this prescription.”
According to one study, the weight loss may return once the patient discontinues use.

Steam Has New Sales & Popularity Charts, And They’re Great
People like to buy games from and play games in Steam, but anyone interested in really poking around the site (like us, it’s our job) has two things they want to know: which games are selling the most copies, and which games are being played the most.
Valve’s new “Steam Charts” page puts all that in the one place, and makes the whole process a lot nicer while you’re at it. A statement from the company says:
Today we’re launching Steam Charts, a new section of Steam that is dedicated to showing the most-played and top-selling games on Steam. Including numbers in real time.
The Steam Charts page replaces Steam Stats as a one-stop-overview of what’s popular on Steam, whether it’s in real-time, by week, or even by month. Steam Charts also gathers numbers in more detail to allow for a more complete picture of which games players are excited about.
It’s basically a single page containing all the popularity-related data you’d want to know (aside from actual number of units sold, which lol as if Valve is ever going to release that), with the page leading with how many people are currently online.
It then shows the five best-selling games and five most-played games, with the ability to quickly expand those charts to display the top 100 in both fields. Then there are weekly top-sellers, top new releases and quick links to other useful Steam-related data pages like Valve’s hardware survey results—always interesting for their breakdown of the GPU market, if nothing else—and download stats.

Jan. 6 ‘Starting to Take a Toll’ on Trump’s Popularity: Former Ambassador
- A former Trump ambassador said the hearings are having a “corrosive” effect on Trump’s popularity.
- The revelations are “all undoubtedly starting to take a toll,” Randy Evans told Politico.
- Trump is eyeing an early 2024 campaign announcement as soon as September.
A former ambassador who served under President Donald Trump says the January 6 committee hearings are having a “corrosive effect” and are “undoubtedly starting to take a toll” on the former president’s support.
“I think what everybody thought was that the first prime-time hearing was such a non-event that that would continue,” said attorney Randy Evans, who served as ambassador to Luxembourg under Trump, told Politico’s David Siders.
“But over the course of the hearings, the steadiness, the repetitiveness, has had a corrosive effect,” he said. “You’d have to be oblivious to the way media works, the way reputations work, the way politics works, to not understand that it’s never the one thing. It’s the accumulation.”
The committee’s seven hearings so far have featured scores of former Trump aides and others around him testifying about the intensity and brazenness of Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, his attempts to pressure and strong-arm officials, and his knowledge of the violence that could break out on January 6.
Evans added that it’s “all undoubtedly starting to take a toll — how much, I don’t know. But the bigger question is whether it starts to eat through the Teflon. There are some signs that maybe it has. But it’s too early to say right now.”
Whatever effect the January 6 hearings have on Trump’s standing is yet to be fully realized, given that the committee’s investigation and public hearings are still ongoing. But some recent polls point to potential trouble for Trump as he inches closer to announcing a 2024 presidential run, possibly before the 2022 midterms in November.
A recent New York Times/Siena College poll found that half of Republican voters want a Republican other than Trump to be the Republican nominee in 2024. Nevertheless, Trump still led a hypothetical 2024 presidential field with 49% of the vote, followed by Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida at 25% and other Republicans in the single digits.
Sarah Longwell, a Republican operative who frequently holds focus groups of GOP voters, told Politico that the January 6 hearings aren’t turning Republicans in her focus groups against Trump as much as they have “turned the volume up on the Trump baggage,” contributing to further voter fatigue and exhaustion.
“I cannot tell you how much these Republican voters want to move on from the conversation of January 6th,” she said.
Wordle! and Wardle team up to donate proceeds from an unrelated app’s popularity spike
Wordle is a free browser game, and a browser game only — it has no accompanying apps, something that some people (myself included, regrettably) might not realize during a time when nearly everything has an app.
This leaves plenty of room for fake Wordle apps to crowd app stores in an attempt to leech off of the word puzzle game’s sudden rise in popularity. But there’s one app coincidentally called Wordle! that’s not a clone — it actually existed before the browser game itself. That’s why its developer is teaming up with the mind behind the browser-based Wordle, Josh Wardle, to use its accidental success as an opportunity to give back, according to a report from GameSpot.
The story unraveled in a thread on Twitter, with Wordle! app developer, Steven Cravotta, detailing how his coding project blew up five years after its creation, unknowingly riding on Wordle’s coattails. He developed an iOS app called Wordle! in 2017 to brush up on his coding skills, and while it got around 100,000 downloads, it wasn’t as successful as a previous game he built, called Grid, so Cravotta decided to stop updating and promoting the app.
Cravotta says that downloads for Wordle! slowed to around one to two per day, but when the browser-based Wordle started taking off, so did his app. The app racked up 200,000 downloads in a single week, albeit from confused users who mistook it for the browser-based Wordle. Cravotta reached out to Wordle app developer, Josh Wardle, and let him know about his plans to donate the proceeds from his app to charity — Wardle sent out a tweet of his own to acknowledge the gesture.
Cravotta later confirmed that he and Wardle decided to donate any money earned by Wordle! to BoostOakland, a charity geared towards tutoring and mentoring young people in Oakland, California. When The Verge reached out to Cravotta, he told us that he has collected a little more than $2,000 so far and that he’ll donate the total amount earned at the end of this month.
AMC Theatres Considers Accepting Shiba Inu Alongside Dogecoin as SHIB Popularity Soars – Altcoins Bitcoin News
The CEO of the world’s largest movie exhibition company, AMC Entertainment, is asking the crypto community whether his company should accept shiba inu (SHIB) for payments. The company is already planning to accept several cryptocurrencies by year-end, including dogecoin.
CEO Asks Whether AMC Should Accept Shiba Inu
The CEO of AMC Entertainment, Adam Aron, put up a poll on Twitter Friday asking the crypto community whether his company should accept payments in shiba inu (SHIB).
AMC is the largest movie exhibition company in the U.S., Europe, and the world. As of March 31, the company owned or operated approximately 950 theaters and 10,500 screens globally.
Aron wrote: “As you know, you can now purchase AMC gift cards using cryptocurrency, and our IT group is writing code so that soon we can accept online payments in bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, and dogecoin among others. Should we strive to take shiba inu too?”
At the time of writing, 44,659 votes have already been counted but the poll still has five days left. So far, 89.2% are in favor of the movie theater chain accepting SHIB.
This is Aron’s second poll on Twitter, according to his tweet. The first, conducted in September, was about whether AMC Theatres should accept rival meme crypto dogecoin (DOGE). Aron tweeted after the voting ended: “So Fascinating! Dogecoin Poll was by far my highest-ever-read tweet. In 24 hours, 4.2 million views, my most ever retweets, most ever replies. 140,000 votes 77% yes 23% no.”
The AMC CEO said in September that his theater chain will accept bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, and bitcoin cash “for online ticket and concession payments by year-end 2021.”
Earlier this month, he announced: “As we work to accept online crypto payments, now you can buy AMC Theatres digital gift cards (up to $200 per day) with dogecoin and other cryptocurrency using a Bitpay Wallet. Accepted on our website, mobile app, and in theatres.”

HBO might finally have a new show that can rival the popularity of ‘Game of Thrones’
It’s been a little more than two years now since Game of Thrones took its final bow on HBO. An ending, of course, that set off all kinds of speculation about what the future would hold for HBO since the fandom around Westeros, dragons and a certain iron throne would no longer be able to prop up the network’s ratings. HBO, however, didn’t miss a beat. It pressed right ahead by employing its Midas Touch to give audiences everything from I May Destroy You to Lovecraft Country, Hacks, Mare of Easttown, The Friends reunion special, Succession, and so many more buzzy new shows. A Game of Thrones prequel is also coming soon at HBO, while last week, HBO and HBO Max learned they’d received 130 new Emmy nominations. And we haven’t even mentioned The Last of Us yet, HBO’s upcoming adaptation of the fan favorite video game series from Naughty Dog that’s making headlines right now for a very Game of Thrones-style reason.
The Last of Us is in the works at HBO
A report out of Canada detailing a 12-month production schedule points to a massive, eight-figure-per-episode budget for the new show. The Last of Us will also star two Game of Thrones vets, as Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will play the lead roles of Joel and Ellie.
One local official, in the Alberta town of Fort Macleod, told a local news outlet there that the show’s budget represents a huge economic stimulus for the area. “The Last of Us, which commences photography this week, is indeed a monster,” Damian Petti said. “It has five art directors and employs an army of hundreds of technicians. It has had six months of prep and shoots (in Alberta) for 12 months.”
He adds: “… It is likely the largest project shooting in Canada.”
Big budget, big impact
HBO, of course, isn’t commenting on details around The Last of Us’ budget. But it’s worth remembering that the most expensive season of Game of Thrones topped out at about $15 million per episode. That puts this new series in the same ballpark. And speaking of the new series, by the way, The Last of Us narrative is focused on the character of Joel bringing a young girl (Ellie) across the US, keeping her safe from zombies along the way. That’s because it’s believed she might hold the answer to a cure, for the parasitic infection plaguing mankind.
According to Petti, the show’s budget is having a “multiplier effect” on the local economy. And that “hundreds” of businesses are benefiting from work involved in making the show. Bottom line: There are no guarantees, of course. But if all this is true? It seems to bode well for a show that could rival HBO’s biggest ever, in terms of scale and impact.

MEGHAN Markle is risking her popularity in the US after effectively telling the Queen “where to stick her crown”, a royal expert claims.
When Meghan and Harry fled Britain for Canada and then the US, their popularity was at its peak with millions of Americans taking their side in the emerging royal rift, according to expert Daniela Elser.
But while the Royal-bashing may have scored them points in the early rounds, the “novelty” of having the pair living in LA, Elser says.
“When they landed in Los Angeles in March last year their value as a highly bankable, rare commodity was peaking. Their brand was on the ascendant,” she wrote for News.com.au.
“They’d told the sovereign where she could stick her crown, something Americans have had a penchant for since the War of Independence, and were eager to make a name for themselves in the commercial world.
“They might have been ready and open for business but the nation was not.
“Fast forward to this year and with the US reopening and life returning to normal and something of the novelty value of a real-life Duke and Duchess in Tinseltown’s midst is no longer quite what it once might have been.

Daniela Elser said it was likely the parents were weighing up their options following their daughter’s birth last month.
The expert said that the couple’s main concern over sharing a photograph was privacy as they continue their lives away from the Royal family in the USA.
Their daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on June 4 in a hospital in Santa Barbara becoming the 8th in line to the throne.

Now a royal expert has revealed that they believe Charles is now “relieved” that they are off the payroll.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward told the Daily Mail: “I imagine Prince Charles will be relieved as they will be off his payroll now, and the British public will be relieved because they can pay back what they owe now on Frogmore Cottage, so it’s a win-win situation.”

Meghan Markle is teaming up with Netflix and Elton John’s husband to create a new animated series as part of the Sussexes’ £112million deal.
The Duchess will take on the role of executive producer on the show that has the working title ‘Pearl’.
The animated series, which features a 12-year-old girl, will be a family series on the streaming site.
“Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges,” Meghan said in a statement.
“I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.”

Daniela Elser said it was likely the parents were weighing up their options following their daughter’s birth last month.
The expert said that the couple’s main concern over sharing a photograph was privacy as they continue their lives away from the Royal family in the USA.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s popularity took a nosedive in the United Kingdom following their sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to a new poll.
During the explosive sit-down, the couple made allegations of racism against the royal family and claimed that Markle’s pleas for help were ignored after she became suicidal.
Harry’s popularity fell 15 points from just a week before the interview, according to the new YouGov poll (via Reuters). Forty-eight percent of the 1,664 participants had a “negative attitude” toward Harry.
The poll also found that only three out of 10 people had a “positive view” of Markle following the interview. An overwhelming 58 percent had a “negative opinion” of the former “Suits” star.

The new opinions on the couple — who are expecting a daughter — come after their headline-making interview, in which they accused the royal family of having discussions about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin would be when he was born. Markle also alleged that “the Firm” did not protect her as they said they would and let her take the heat for a false narrative that she made her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, cry ahead of her May 2018 wedding to Harry.
Markle also revealed that she became suicidal while pregnant with Archie, but that the royal institution refused to help her when she reached out.

Harry’s father, Prince Charles, also saw a decline in his popularity in the poll, as 42 percent of people reported having a “negative view” of him.
During the interview, Harry revealed that his father stopped taking his calls for a period of time after “Megxit.” He also said he tried to help his brother, Prince William, see the “toxic” ways of the royal family lifestyle, but was unsuccessful.
