PlayStation Plus Free Games We May Get in February 2023

January is almost over, yet Sony has yet to reveal the free PlayStation Plus games all PS Plus subscribers, regardless of the tier, will be getting for February 2023. The expectation is that it will be another two PS4 games and a PS5 game, but what games specifically hasn’t been officially revealed or even unofficially leaked like most months. This should change in the coming days as both Sony and leakers are running out of time. In the meantime, here are the games we think could feature.

Sifu was released last year as a PlayStation console exclusive, and a fairly notable one at that. This February, it will celebrate its one-year anniversary. Further, the following month, it will finally come to Xbox consoles, making this a great time for PlayStation to take some of the wind out of this sail by making it free via PS Plus first.

“Whether you choose to play as a male or a female character, in Sifu, you will ponder that question on your path for revenge, hunting down your family’s assassins,” reads an official blurb about the game. “One against all, you have no allies, countless enemies, and a mysterious amulet to bring you back to life every time you die. Yet, be warned! Your secret weapon comes with a hefty price to pay: aging and its consequences.”

Next month, Kingdom Come Deliverance will celebrate its five-year anniversary. With a sequel on the way and millions of copies already sold, it’s a good time to generate some buzz and squeeze a bit more juice from the orange in order to get more people anticipating and ready to buy the sequel whenever it winds up coming out.

“You’re Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family,” reads an official pitch of the game. “Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!”

The third and final game, the marquee PS5 offer, could be The Last of Us Part 1, which has seen a resurgence in sales thanks to the popularity of the HBO show. This will likely continue as the show progresses, but you have to imagine a bulk of this resurgence has already happened, which means now is a good time to use the game to market the TV show.

“Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters in The Last of Us, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards,” reads an official description of the game. “In a ravaged civilization, where infected and hardened survivors run rampant, Joel, a weary protagonist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.”

Of course, these are just predictions. They are based on the history of the service and knowledge of the industry, but this isn’t a leak. Our predictions have been right in the past, but unfortunately, probability is very much against us.

What To Expect From PlayStation in 2023

Sucker Punch hasn’t announced what it’s working on, but has confirmed what it isn’t working on.
Image: Sucker Punch Productions

Sony’s San Diego Studio is a multiplatform studio now that MLB The Show is available on Xbox and Nintendo platforms. So while it won’t be a PlayStation exclusive, expect an MLB The Show 23 later this year. God of War Ragnarök was one of the biggest games of last year, and was also one of the last big games in 2022, having only launched about two months ago. Sony Santa Monica also doesn’t seem to have plans to make DLC for Ragnarök, so it’s probable the team goes mostly silent in 2023.

Sucker Punch could be a wildcard in 2023, as it’s been about three years since Ghost of Tsushima, but the studio also seems to be working on a sequel to its open-world samurai game rather than a new IP or a sequel to its previous series Infamous and Sly Cooper. The gap between Infamous: Second Son and Ghost of Tsushima was about six years, but if the studio is iterating on old systems, we may hear about the new samurai sequel sooner rather than later. Finally, Valkyrie Entertainment was a more low-key acquisition for Sony, and the team has acted primarily as a support studio as recently as God of War Ragnarök. That being so, the team is likely helping out with other projects that launch in 2023.

Whew, I think that’s everything on the PlayStation radar so far. Has anything got your interest piqued, or are you hoping Sony will announce some more enticing projects in the coming year?

PS5 Reportedly Locking Major Feature Behind PS Plus

PS5 is reportedly getting a major feature, but not only is this feature going to be locked behind PlayStation Plus, but it’s going to be locked behind the most expensive tier of the PS4 and PS5 subscription service. In other words, if you’re a PS Plus Essential subscriber or even a PS Plus Extra subscriber, you’re out of luck, because according to this new report, this new feature is for PS Plus Premium only, which means that only a fraction of subscribers will be able to enjoy it.

The report comes the way of Insider Gaming, which reports that soon PS5 games will be streamable on PS5 via cloud streaming, but only via PS Plus Premium. The feature is reportedly in the works under the project name “Cronus” and has been in the works for months. To this end, it should come as no surprise that it’s slated to come to PS5 on March 8, 2023.

For those that don’t know: PS Plus is divided into three tiers. The basic and standard tier, which is what PS Plus was before it was expanded upon earlier this year, is called PS Plus Essential and gives subscribers a handful of “free” games every month in addition to the ability to play multiplayer games, use cloud saves, and other things. The middle tier of the subscription service is PS Plus Extra, which is PS Plus Essential as well as unlimited access to a vast and evolving library of PS4 and PS5 games. And then there is PS Plus Premium, which is PS Plus Extra, but the library of PS4 and PS5 games is bolstered with PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games. And apparently now this and the ability to stream PS5 games.

All of that said, take everything here with a grain of salt. While the source in question is sterling it doesn’t change the fact that everything here should be taken with a grain of salt. In the meantime, for more coverage on all things PlayStation click here or peep the links right below:

Rumour: PS Plus Essential PS5, PS4 Games for January 2023 Leaked Early

Dealabs has done it yet again, only this time, the leak has arrived earlier than usual. Pretty much every month, the European retail site gets its hands on the PS Plus Essential monthly games lineup ahead of everyone else, and it’s always accurate. So, what are the first PS Plus Essential games for 2023?

According to Dealabs, January’s trio of treats looks like this:

The first needs little introduction. Respawn Entertainment’s action adventure game brings us Cal Kestis, one of the few remaining Jedi, who must come out of hiding and further his training. Lightly influenced by Dark Souls, the game has great lightsaber combat and large environments to explore on planets both familiar and new. With the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor coming in March, this makes total sense for PS Plus Essential.

Next up is Axiom Verge 2, the sequel to the highly regarded Metroidvania game. Taking place in a different location and with a new protagonist, it stands on its own telling a contained story, though there will be references back to the original for fans to enjoy. The third game in the lineup is Fallout 76, which was critically panned upon release. However, the online spin on Bethesda’s series has received countless updates since then, so maybe it’s time to drop back in for another go.

Entire Mainline Yakuza Series Coming To PlayStation Plus

Image: Sega

Sony just announced that Sega’s widely loved Yakuza series of criminal underworld sims will soon debut on its PlayStation Plus subscription service. The entire mainline series is coming, in fact.

Today, Sony announced on its blog that the main entries in the Yakuza series, which follow Kazuma Kiryu’s story across seven different titles, will start becoming available for PlayStation Plus subscribers next month. Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which changes pace to tell the story of Ichiban Kasuga—with a surprise switch to turn-based combat—will also join the service.

They’re not all coming to everyone, though. Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be available on the Essential, Extra, and Premium subscription tiers, but Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 will only be available at Extra and Premium. Sony’s blog promises the rest of the main series will be available later in the year, but only at the Premium and Extra tiers.

(Sony’s blog post currently seems to have an error regarding which games are specifically available at which level. Kotaku has reached out to Sony for clarification.)

Yakuza first arrived way back in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. An open-world action-adventure game with RPG-like fighting mechanics, Yakuza introduced us to Kazuma Kiryu, a soulful gangster who’s swept up in a story of crime and violence. Seven more games would follow over the years, releasing on nearly every Xbox and Sony console since, as well as PC. Remasters of the first two games, rebranded as Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, launched in 2016 and 2017.

The Yakuza series is legendary among fans for maintaining a standard of solid, memorable writing with a wide array of features and side-quests that’ve allowed players to get lost in seedy, wonderfully designed urban districts. The series hasn’t shied away from taking some chances, with the most recent entry delivering a sharp pivot to turn-based combat on top of some hilarious story beats.

The inclusion of these hit games is helping to round out the PlayStation Plus value proposition, with games like Stray, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and tons of Assassin’s Creed titles joining the service earlier this month as well. The tiered structure has led to some confusion, but with more hit games arriving over time, the prospect of figuring it out will become that much more appealing.

PlayStation Plus Is Getting Over 50 Free Games From Ubisoft

Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus will soon be getting over 50 free games from Ubisoft in the coming months. Just a few weeks back, the new revision of PS Plus finally kicked in, which means that more games across both PS4 and PS5 are available to those subscribed to the Premium and Extra tiers of the service. And prior to the end of 2020, subscribers to those versions of PS Plus will be getting a massive influx of Ubisoft titles.

Outlined in a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Ubisoft detailed that it’s planning to add even more games to its Ubisoft + Classics service down the road. Currently, this service is one that is also available to PS Plus Premium and Extra members and it features 27 games in total. By the end of 2022, though, Ubisoft has made clear that over 50 games will be available, although we don’t yet know what all of them will be.

“Ubisoft+ Classics initially launched with 27 Ubisoft titles, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, The Division, and For Honor, as well as classic games like Child of Light, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Watch Dogs, and Werewolves Within, with plans to expand the library to include over 50 titles by the end of 2022.,” Ubisoft said of its plans to grow this service.

In the coming week, Ubisoft confirmed that it would begin expanding Ubisoft+ Classics even further with the addition of some beloved Assassin’s Creed titles. On Tuesday, July 19th, PS Plus subscribers will gain access to Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered. In total, this lineup contains seven games (if you include the Freedom Cry DLC for Black Flag), which is quite an impressive way to bolster PS Plus that much more in the near future.

How do you feel about Ubisoft bringing so many of its popular games from the past to PS Plus? Will you look to play any of these games for yourself if you’re a subscriber of PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra? Let me know for yourself either down in the comments or message me on Twitter at @MooreMan12.

PlayStation Plus Subscribers Can Claim a Bonus Freebie

Subscribers of PlayStation Plus now have the option to claim a bonus freebie that is available across both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. While most members of PS Plus have likely been more focused on the recent release of July 2022’s free games, Sony has also teamed up with publisher Activision to give players of Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard some goodies that they can use in both titles.

As a way of celebrating the recent start of Season 4 for Warzone and Vanguard, PS Plus made available a new “Combat Pack” that subscribers can download. This add-on for Warzone and Vanguard is entirely free to those subscribed to the Essential version of PS Plus and it notably contains a new Operator skin for Halima Zambardi. In addition, this pack also features some new blueprints, an emblem, a double-XP token, and a handful of other items that can be used in-game. You can download the Combat Pack for yourself on the PlayStation Store right here if you’re interested.

In a general sense, it’s not that surprising to see that Sony is once again releasing more items like this via PS Plus for Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard. In the past, PS Plus has also given subscribers a number of goodies tied to Call of Duty, so this is a collaboration that we’re somewhat used to seeing between PlayStation and Activision. Still, the fact that these add-on packs for Warzone and Vanguard continue to release on PS Plus is something that might sway players to experience each game on PS5 and PS4 rather than on other platforms.

If you’d like to get a better idea of everything that is included in this free PS Plus Combat Pack for Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard, you can find the full list of redeemable items down below.

– Legendary Operator Skin for Halima Zambardi
– Legendary Shotgun Weapon Blueprint
– Legendary LMG Weapon Blueprint
– Legendary Emblem
– Legendary Watch
– Epic Charm
– Epic Sticker
– Epic Calling Card
– Legendary 60-minute Double XP Token

PlayStation Plus Leak Reveals One of the Biggest Free Games So Far This Year

It looks like one of the biggest, best, and most popular PS5 games is coming to PlayStation Plus, but not the base version, nor via PlayStation Plus Extra, but with PlayStation Plus Premium, the most expensive version of the subscription service. While the big selling point of PS Plus Premium for many may be the access to PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, its library is also brimming with many great PS4 games, as well as some great PS5 games. And there aren’t many PS5 games much better than Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which looks like it’s coming to the PS Plus Premium library, and coming soon.

The PS5 game’s addition hasn’t been confirmed, but over on Reddit one PS5 user noticed the game is showing as a PS Plus Premium title over on PSN. This could be a mistake, especially when you consider the recent launch of PS Plus Premium and PS Plus Extra, which will have thrown a few wrenches in the back end for Sony. It’s not uncommon for things to be wrongly listed for PS Plus, but there have also been times when PSN has leaked upcoming PS Plus games in this exact fashion. And with Sony likely to reveal new PS Plus games next week, the timing may not be so coincidental.

As for PlayStation, it has not commented on this leak. We don’t expect this to change as it never comments on leak, especially ones flying under the radar, like this one currently is, but if it does comment, we will update the story accordingly.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart may be coming to New PS plus ? from
PlayStationPlus

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart debuted on June 11, 2021 via Insomniac Games and the PS5. Upon release, the game garnered an 88 on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated games of last year.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is easily the best game that the PlayStation 5 now has to offer,” reads the opening of our review of the PS5 game. “From top to bottom, it offers an experience that is practically faultless and keeps you from ever wanting to put the controller down. Not only is Rift Apart itself superb, but as a showcase for what the PS5 is capable of, it’s likely the best example we have seen so far and continues to verify that Insomniac Games is one of the best studios in the world.”

PSA: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Removed from Service Aren’t Yours to Keep Forever

Image: Push Square

We recently reported on a couple of games featured in PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium that will be leaving the service fairly soon. This caused a little confusion, as many believed that the huge libraries of games in the new tiers would be accessible forever, so long as you stay subscribed and download them to your PS5 or PS4. To be perfectly clear, that is not the case.

If a game is removed from PS Plus Extra or Premium, it will no longer be available to play — even if you’ve claimed it.

Sony did confirm this detail in its PS Blog guide to the new PS Plus, making the following statement: “Similar to PlayStation Now, if the content is no longer offered on PlayStation Plus, you won’t be able to access the titles when they leave the service”.

As it says, PS Now worked on the same basis. Once a game was taken out of the service, it became inaccessible even to those who had streamed or downloaded it. It’s the exact same for PS Plus Extra and Premium.

However, PS Plus Essential’s monthly games, as well as titles in the PS Plus Collection, will remain accessible when they cycle out of the service, as long as you’ve added them to your library.

If you’re still not sure how things stack up, we’d recommend keeping tabs on our list of All PS Plus Games. This page contains all the information you need about every game on all tiers, including when they join and any upcoming expiry dates. There’s also more info about All Three PS Plus Tiers Explained through the link.
