Pete Arredondo resigns from Uvalde city council

“After much consideration, it is in the best interest of the community to step down as a member of the City Council for District 3 to minimize further distractions,” Arredondo said in the letter. “The Mayor, the City Council, and the City Staff must continue to move forward to unite our community, once again.”

Uvalde city officials confirmed they received the resignation letter Saturday. The Uvalde Leader-News first reported about the resignation.
Arredondo’s role in the police response to the May 24 shooting — in which a gunman entered adjoining classrooms and killed 19 children and two teachers — has been under intense public scrutiny and criticism from the Texas Department of Public Safety. That’s in part because more than an hour elapsed before officers entered the classrooms and killed the gunman.

Arredondo’s resignation from the city council “is the right thing to do,” the city had said in an earlier news release Saturday responding to the Leader-News’ report, but prior to receiving the chief’s resignation letter.

Arredondo had been elected to the Uvalde City Council on May 7, just weeks before the massacre. He was sworn in to the council position a week later.

CNN reached out to Arredondo’s attorney Saturday for comment.

In his letter, Arredondo said that “as we continue to grieve over the tragedy that occurred on May 24th, we pray for the families affected and our entire community.”

“Uvalde has a rich history of loving and supporting thy neighbor and we must continue to do so. In speaking with other communities that have had similar tragedies, the guidance has been the same — continue to support the families, continue to support our community and, above all, to keep strong in our faith,” he wrote.

“As I think about my life, from growing up as a child and into adulthood, Uvalde has held an attraction that is incredibly unique. At the center of that attraction, is our community members. Together, we will keep Uvalde strong,” the latter added.

Police response was an ‘abject failure,’ Texas Department of Public Safety director said

Arredondo, the chief of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Department since March 2020, was identified by state authorities as the on-scene commander during the shooting.

Several law enforcement officers arrived at the school within minutes but allowed the gunman to remain in the classrooms for 77 minutes until they finally entered and killed him, according to a timeline from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), which is leading a review of the incident. The lengthy delay contradicted widely taught protocol for active shooter situations that call for police to immediately stop the threat and came even as children inside repeatedly called 911 and begged for help.
In a hearing before the Texas Senate last week, DPS director Col. Steven McCraw called the police response an “abject failure” and placed sole blame on Arredondo.

“Three minutes after the subject entered the West building, there was a sufficient number of armed officers wearing body armor to isolate, distract and neutralize the subject,” McCraw said. “The only thing stopping the hallway of dedicated officers from entering rooms 111 and 112 was the on-scene commander, who decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children.”

Other officials have questioned McCraw’s motivations in blaming Arredondo, given that dozens of law enforcement officers from an array of departments responded to the scene. Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin said McCraw has continued to “lie, leak, mislead or misstate information in order to distance his own troopers and (Texas) Rangers from the response.”
Arredondo, who has worked in law enforcement for nearly 30 years, has not spoken substantively to the public about his decision-making that day, but he told the Texas Tribune in an interview that he did not consider himself the on-scene commander.

However, at least one of the responding officers expressed the belief that Arredondo was leading the law enforcement response inside the school, telling others, “the chief is in charge,” according to the DPS timeline.

Arredondo also told the Texas Tribune he did not instruct officers to refrain from breaching the classrooms.

In the wake of the release of the DPS timeline and further details about the law enforcement response, Uvalde CISD superintendent Hal Harrell placed Arredondo on leave from his position as school police chief on June 22.

“Because of the lack of clarity that remains and the unknown timing of when I will receive the results of the investigations, I have made the decision to place Chief Arredondo on administrative leave effective on this date,” Harrell wrote in the announcement.

As for Arredondo’s brief time on the city council, he had not yet attended any public meeting. Council members unanimously voted to deny him a leave of absence from future sessions, leaving open the possibility that he could have been removed from office if he continued to miss meetings.

CNN’s Jason Hanna contributed to this report.

Pete Arredondo, Uvalde school district police chief, placed on administrative leave

Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde school district police chief, was placed on administrative leave Wednesday, the school’s superintendent said. The action is effective immediately.

Dr. Hal Harrell said in a statement that, although the district wanted to wait for the investigation into law enforcement’s responses to the deadly mass shooting to be completed before making any decisions, he went ahead and placed Arredondo on leave “because of the lack of clarity that remains” and the “unknown timing” of when the investigation will conclude.

Lieutenant Mike Hernandez will fill the role while Arredondo is on leave, Harrell said.

Arredondo has been met with intense criticism since the May 24 shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers. He was in charge of the law enforcement response that day, and investigations have revealed several failures, including that police had an opportunity to shoot the gunman within three minutes of his arrival at the school and instead left him in the school for over an hour. Police also never checked to see if the door to the classroom where the gunman was holed up was locked.

Not only has Arredondo faced questioning, but the subsequent investigation into the shooting response has also raised red flags, with many feeling confused about what actually happened on that day.

Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against the Texas Department of Public Safety, accusing state troopers of not sharing information with the public, but instead pointing fingers at Uvalde school police.

“They want to give us snippets of body cam footage from the local police, but they want to hold on to their own body cam footage,” Gutierrez said of the Texas State Troopers. “We found out yesterday there was 91 officers on site from the Department of Public Safety.”

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin is placing blame at the feet of state authorities, who he says have been responsible for keeping citizens in the dark.

McLaughlin told CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca that he was last briefed by DPS on the morning of May 25, one day after the shooting.

“I’ve contacted them every day. I don’t get a damn thing out of them,” McLaughlin said.

The search for answers has left community and family members feeling lost amid the struggle to find answers. Javier Cazares, whose 9-year-old daughter Jacklyn was killed, said the mixed messages from officials is frustrating and hurts.

The news comes as state lawmakers continue to focus on mental health and gun safety following the shooting’s aftermath.

McGraw said Tuesday that the shooter was “on a pathway to violence,” as he dropped out of high school at 17 and had asked a family member to purchase a weapon for him. Also Tuesday, McLaughlin vowed that no Uvalde student or teacher will ever step foot in Robb Elementary again, saying it’s his understanding that the building will be demolished.

Uvalde school shooting: School district places Chief Pete Arredondo on administrative leave, superintendent announces

“Because of the lack of clarity that remains and the unknown timing of when I will receive the results of the investigations, I have made the decision to place Chief Arredondo on administrative leave effective on this date,” Harrell wrote in the announcement to the media.

Lt. Mike Hernandez is assuming the duties of the UCISD Chief of Police, Harrell said.

The superintendent wrote that he had intended to wait for an investigation to be finished before making personnel decisions.

“Today, I am still without details of the investigations being conducted by various agencies,” he wrote.

Arredondo testified Tuesday behind closed doors in Austin to a Texas House committee seeking answers to what happened May 24 when 21 people were gunned down at an elementary school, but has not spoken publicly about his decision-making on the day of the shooting.

The school district’s announcement comes a day after the Uvalde City Council, of which Arredondo is a new member, voted to deny his request for a leave of absence.

Harrell is not alone in appearing to be frustrated by the lack of information from investigators.

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin on Tuesday slammed the Texas Department of Public Security (DPS) for its lack of transparency and accused its director, Col. Steven McCraw, of intentionally minimizing his agency’s mistakes in the weeks following the massacre at Robb Elementary School.

“Col. McCraw has continued to, whether you want to call it lie, leak, mislead or misstate, information in order to distance his own troopers and Rangers from the response. Every briefing he leaves out the number of his own officers and Rangers that were on-scene that day,” McLaughlin told residents at a city council meeting Tuesday.

“Col. McCraw has an agenda and it is not to present a full report on what happened and give factual answers on what happened to this community,” he added.

In addition, state Sen. Roland Gutierrez, a Democrat representing the County of Uvalde, filed a lawsuit Wednesday against DPS, arguing the agency violated the Texas Public Information Act when his request for information on the shooting was ignored.

“In the wake of the senseless tragedy, the people of Uvalde and Texas have demanded answers from their government. To date, they have been met with lies, misstatements, and shifts of blame,” the lawsuit states.

The criticisms and lawsuit come shortly after McCraw testified before a Texas Senate committee that the response from law enforcement was an “abject failure” and violated commonly taught protocol to stop the shooter as quickly as possible.

The DPS director accused Arredondo, who McCraw and others have identified as the on-scene commander, of ordering police to wait in a nearby hallway for unnecessary equipment and keys to a door that was not even locked.

The finger-pointing adds further tension to a tragedy that has become a case study in bad policing and worse communication. Nearly a month has passed since an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at the school. He remained inside the classrooms from 11:33 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. — when police finally breached the door and killed him, according to a DPS timeline.

Yet authorities have repeatedly changed their account of key facts about what happened inside the rooms and what police did in response during those 77 minutes.

McLaughlin said that the repeated misstatements and blame-shifting from Texas authorities was dividing the community and frustrating grieving families

“What matters to Uvalde is that these brokenhearted families and this grieving community get a full investigation and an accurate report of what happened that day,” he said. “The petty infighting, the clickbait headlines and the politically motivated scapegoating is not helping anyone.”

CNN has reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the district attorney’s office, the chair of the Texas House investigating committee and the San Antonio office of the FBI for further comment.

State senator’s lawsuit challenges DPS secrecy

In his lawsuit filed Wednesday, Gutierrez challenged the DPS’s decisions to withhold information from the public, including police bodycam footage, 911 audio and ballistics reports.

“DPS has violated Chapter 552 of the Texas Government by failing to provide public documents that are presumed to be public within a reasonable time,” the lawsuit states.

In a section titled “The Cover-Up,” the lawsuit notes that DPS has used an exception to the law to keep records private.

“These government agencies have used the ‘on going law enforcement exception’ to the Texas open records law to disallow access to information that might shed light on the response to the school shooting,” the lawsuit states.

Gutierrez is asking the Travis County District Court to rule that DPS immediately provide the documents in his records request.

District Attorney Christina Mitchell Busbee issued a statement two weeks ago stating the shooting was being investigated by the FBI and Texas Rangers and that “any release of records to that incident at this time would interfere with said ongoing investigation and would impede a thorough and complete investigation.”

Still, Kelley Shannon, the executive director of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, urged transparency in a statement Wednesday.

“It is important to note that the Texas Public Information Act does not require law enforcement investigators to withhold information from the public about a crime,” Shannon said. “The law enforcement exception to release is discretionary. In fact, many police and prosecutors across Texas routinely release investigative information to the public when they feel the need to — whether to help catch a wanted suspect, to seek more tips about a crime or to showcase the positive performance of police.”

Mayor says he’s frustrated by lack of transparency

At the city council meeting, McLaughlin noted that officers from at least eight law enforcement agencies were in the hallway outside the classrooms on the day of the shooting. McLaughlin said he has no desire to pursue elected office again and is “not covering up for anybody,” saying all responding agencies should be held accountable.

He said the leaking of certain bits of information over the past few weeks “continues to create chaos in our community and keeps the whole truth from coming out.”

He particularly took aim at what he said was a false report that local police weren’t cooperating with investigators, and he expressed his frustration with being left in the dark.

“I’m just as frustrated — maybe not as frustrated as the families that have lost their loved ones — but it pisses me off that I can’t give you answers or can’t get you answers,” McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin said he was meant to receive a daily briefing from authorities since its onset but none has been provided.

“The gloves are off. As we know it, we will share it. We are not going to hold back anymore,” he said.

McLaughlin has criticized the lack of transparency from investigators before, saying at a city council meeting on June 7, “We had some missteps with the DPS releasing some facts or different things, but that wasn’t the Rangers who were leading the investigation. I’m not blaming anybody,” he said.
“We were told one thing one day, and the next day the narrative changed. You were told for a week that a teacher propped the door open with a rock, and at the end of the week that story was gone too. That’s the missteps I’m talking about,” he added.

The city council meeting also took issue with Arredondo’s absence from the public eye.

CNN’s Jamiel Lynch, Andy Rose, Christina Maxouris, Amanda Musa, Rosalina Nieves, Amy Simonson and Steve Almasy contributed to this report.

Uvalde School Police Chief Pete Arredondo Absent From First Meeting as New City Council Member

The Uvalde school district’s police chief on Tuesday was not present at what would have been his first city council meeting as its newest member. Pete Arredondo has been lying low in response to national firestorm of criticism leveled at his hesitation to confront the shooter who massacred 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School on May 24. But he notably made time to be sworn in as a newly elected city council member last week, and Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin said at Tuesday’s emergency council meeting that he was unable to account for Arredondo’s absence. The mayor added that he hadn’t spoken to the school police chief in roughly a week. Arredondo won the council election three weeks before the mass shooting. Although authorities have been slow to provide accurate information on the response, which remains under investigation, an official timeline has shown that about an hour passed between the first police entry into the school and when the shooter, Salvador Ramos, was killed. A father of one of the victims told KENS 5 on Tuesday that he would have asked Arredondo at the meeting about why he allegedly told his officers not to breach the classroom Ramos had occupied.

Pete Alonso, Starling Marte injured in loss

SAN DIEGO — Considering the disaster that could have befallen the Mets on an otherwise idyllic Tuesday night at Petco Park, a 7-0 loss to the Padres, taken in context, seemed almost palatable.

The game was only a half hour old when the Mets lost both Pete Alonso and Starling Marte to injuries, with Alonso’s appearing particularly alarming. But the initial updates on both wound up being relatively mild.

Alonso, who was hit on the right hand by a 96 mph Yu Darvish sinker, underwent X-rays that came back negative for a fracture. He was scheduled to undergo further imaging to make sure, but for the moment, Alonso appears to have dodged a significant injury.

Marte escaped with what the Mets defined as a bout of left quadriceps tightness, rather than a strain or a tear. He, too, was scheduled for further tests.

“Hopefully, we can get lucky with both of them,” manager Buck Showalter said. “We’ll see.”

Asked if he foresees absences of only a day or two for Alonso and Marte, Showalter replied: “I love your optimism, but I don’t share it at this point. But we’ll see.”

Neither Alonso nor Marte was available postgame to speak about their injuries because they had left the premises to undergo late-night testing, according to a team spokesman. Showalter, however, said that he spoke with Marte immediately after the game, indicating that he was still at Petco Park. The manager also said that Marte was scheduled to undergo his MRI on Wednesday. The spokesman did not respond to a message seeking clarity, shrouding the entire situation in an additional layer of uncertainty.

Answers will come soon, at least, for a Mets team that still has one more game in San Diego before wrapping up this West Coast swing with three in Anaheim.

“Obviously, losing those two guys that quickly took a little air out of everything,” Showalter said.

The injuries melted away many of the good vibes the Mets had established with three consecutive wins over the Dodgers and Padres, and they happened almost immediately at the start of the game Tuesday. After Darvish plunked Brandon Nimmo to open the contest, Marte reached base and came up limping on a stolen-base attempt. Following a lengthy chat with Showalter and a trainer, Marte stayed in the game, but he appeared to be walking gingerly and took nearly 90 seconds to return to the dugout after the inning. He did not return for the bottom of the second.

By that time, Alonso had already departed after taking a Darvish sinker off his right hand as he attempted to check his swing during a second-inning plate appearance. Alonso immediately dropped to the ground in pain and came off the field without hesitation. While the initial X-ray came back negative, Showalter acknowledged afterward that “X-rays sometimes don’t always reveal” hairline fractures or other small breaks in the hand.

Darvish plunked three of the first five Mets batters before settling down to pitch seven scoreless innings. Mets starter Taijuan Walker, meanwhile, allowed four early runs before leveling off himself, and while he noted that “it definitely could have spiraled and gotten worse,” by that point, the damage was done in multiple ways.

The Mets can ill afford an extended absence from either of their injured players, but particularly not Alonso, their most prolific run producer over the first third of the season. Appearing in each of the Mets’ first 58 games, Alonso has a slash line of .282/.363/.546. His 16 homers are tied for the National League lead, while his 54 RBIs are tops in the Majors.

J.D. Davis, who started at first base Monday for the first time since 2018, replaced Alonso as a pinch-runner and took over at first. The Mets recently demoted Dominic Smith to Triple-A Syracuse, but he would be a candidate to return if Alonso misses significant time. The Mets are deeper in the outfield, where Mark Canha replaced Marte in right. Still, a lingering absence wouldn’t be ideal. Following a slow start, Marte had caught fire in recent weeks, hitting .313 with 15 extra-base hits in 30 games since the start of May.

The Mets have two position players — Gosuke Katoh and Nick Dini — on their taxi squad in San Diego, but only Katoh boasts significant professional experience at first base or in the outfield. Showalter indicated that the Mets would make contingency plans, perhaps bringing additional players to California in case either injury turns out to be serious.

“I don’t think ‘bind’ is a word I’d use,” the manager said. “It may appear that way, but I look at it as a time for somebody else to shine, like we have all year. Our front office has been ahead of the game keeping us equipped, and we’ll continue to do that.”

Pete Davidson Spotted Holding Saint West’s Hand Without Kim Kardashian

Pete Davidson’s bond with the Kardashian clan seems to be getting stronger and stronger.

On Saturday, the former Saturday Night Live comedian was spotted holding hands with Saint West, Kim Kardashian’s six-year-old son, while shopping in Los Angeles, according to footage obtained by TMZ. The clip shows the duo perusing items like hats at a kiosk and standing outside The Cheesecake Factory. Kardashian was reportedly not in attendance during the outing.

In the video, Davidson wears a dark gray T-shirt, forest green basketball shorts, and a baseball cap. Meanwhile, Saint wears a blue T-shirt with matching shorts, and a bucket hat.

Kardashian has three other children—North West, Chicago West, and Psalm West—whom she shares with ex-husband Kanye West.

Eagle-eyed fans believe that Davidson has developed a strong bond with the kids after he received a new tattoo this past April that could be interpreted as a subtle tribute to them. In photos, the ink appears to read, “KNSCP,” possibly standing for the first-name initials of his girlfriend’s kids: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.

Davidson is known for his tendency to get tattoos to express affection. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres earlier this year, Kardashian revealed that Davidson has gotten more than three tattoos dedicated to her—and that he even branded her name on his body.

“I just think he was like, ‘I want something that’s there that I can’t get rid of,'” she explained. “‘Cause he’s in the process of getting rid of his arm tats and his neck tats. So he’s like, ‘I don’t want to be able to get rid of it or to cover it up, and I just wanted it, like, there as, like, a scar.'”

Pete Davidson Filmed Shopping & Holding Hands With Saint West In L.A. Sans Kim K

Pete is in full (step) dad mode with 6-year-old Saint.

Pete Davidson doesn’t have any kids of his own, but according to TMZ, he’s becoming increasingly comfortable around the four young children of his girlfriend – North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm West. Most recently, the Saturday Night Live alum was filmed out on what looked to be a solo shopping trip with Kim Kardashian’s eldest son.

Cameras caught the 28-year-old out and about at The Grove shopping plaza in Los Angeles, where the 6-year-old walked hand in hand with his mother’s boyfriend. After perusing around for a bit, they landed outside the Cheesecake Factory to grab a bite to eat where cameras caught them holding hands again, a bodyguard also standing nearby.

MEGA/Getty Images

Eyewitnesses told the publication that Saint’s hat in the aforementioned photos was purchased for him by Davidson, which the young boy seemed to be grateful for.

While the New York native and the socialite have been spending more time together following his exit from Saturday Night Live, it appears that she skipped out on this shopping trip. Saint’s father, Kanye West, wasn’t around either – likely a good thing due to the distaste he’s previously expressed for his wife’s new man on social media.

Davidson appears to have won over the hearts of Kardashian’s family quickly. Months into their relationship cameras caught him driving around in a golf cart with 8-year-old North West in his lap, and rumour has it that one of the smaller tattoos on his neck represents Kim and her children’s initials.

On top of that, Kris Jenner has also made it clear that she absolutely adores him – read more about that here, and let us know if you were surprised by the new footage of Pete and Saint spending time together below.

Pete Alonso hits two home runs in Mets’ win over Dodgers

LOS ANGELES — In about six weeks’ time, Pete Alonso will likely return to Dodger Stadium for the MLB All-Star Game, where he figures to be one of several Mets players elected to the National League team. On the eve of those festivities, Alonso will almost certainly participate in the Home Run Derby as well, considering both his love for that event and his status as a two-time defending champion.

Might as well sneak in a little practice while he has the chance. Alonso homered twice in Saturday night’s 9-4 win over the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, driving home five runs in a dominant performance that drew him even with Cleveland’s José Ramírez for the MLB RBI lead at 53.

“I don’t think we expect anything less,” Mets starter David Peterson said. “Ever since he came up, he’s put on a show.”

Batting in the third inning, Alonso pulled a go-ahead two-run homer over the left-field fence to knock Dodgers starter Walker Buehler out of the game. In the seventh, he swatted a 100 mph Brusdar Graterol fastball to the opposite field for a three-run homer that made a tight game decidedly less so. It was his third home run over the past two days.

Alonso’s 16 homers are tied with the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts for the most in the National League. He also moved into a tie for 10th place on the Mets’ all-time home run list with 122 for his career.

“Oh, that’s sick,” Alonso said of his place in franchise history. “I didn’t know that. I just want to keep it going.”

This has been a renaissance season for Alonso, who originally powered his way into the Mets’ plans with a 53-homer rookie season in 2019, before taking a noticeable step back in ’20 and a step forward last summer. This year, Alonso has played in all 55 of New York’s games, with an announced intention to try to appear in all 162. He could soon threaten the franchise record for consecutive games played, which has allowed him to concentrate his production.

At his current homer pace, Alonso could rank as high as sixth on the Mets’ all-time home run list by season’s end. He may also obliterate the franchise’s RBI record, which Mike Piazza and David Wright currently share at 124. (Alonso is on pace for 156.)

It’s a vortex of numbers that all essentially say the same thing: Alonso is hitting the ball often, and hard, and doing significant damage when he does. Almost exactly one-third of the way through the season, Alonso has established himself as the Mets’ most legitimate National League MVP Award candidate since Wright placed fourth in voting in 2007.

“It’s every single day,” Peterson said. “It’s not just hit a home run here, and then you don’t hear from him. … He has power to all fields. He’s not just trying to hit home runs. He’s really trying to drive the ball, which works for him. He’s a key piece of our lineup.”

Over the past four seasons, Alonso has trained tirelessly to become a more complete hitter, improving his plate discipline as well as his all-fields approach. It showed against Buehler, a former Vanderbilt ace who performed “really well — like, really well” against the University of Florida alum Alonso in college.

“I didn’t want that to happen again,” said Alonso, whose home runs more than made up for a throwing error in the second inning.

On Saturday, Alonso’s performance allowed the Mets to win an eventful game that featured Buck Showalter removing Peterson in the middle of an at-bat, Francisco Lindor hitting a solo homer despite a fractured right middle finger and both teams enduring an 11-minute delay as umpires determined whether the Dodgers could let a position player pitch.

Alonso’s role in it all might have been the least surprising piece, given the location of the game. In 11 career contests at Dodger Stadium, Alonso has seven home runs. And he’s liable to hit quite a few more at next month’s Derby, despite joking after the game that he hasn’t yet received an invitation. But Alonso will most likely be there, eager to put on another show.

“It’s just one of those historic parks,” Alonso said. “There have been a lot of really important names in the game of baseball who have played here. For me, it’s an honor to play here.”

Kim stepped out of the studio in a head turning look in thigh high lime green boots, a sheer black bodycon dress and extra-long platinum tresses.

At the start of their romance, Kim tried to keep things on the down low but this week on her Hulu show, The Kardashians, prying producers finally got her to get candid about why she pursued the comedian. The answer came as no surprise.

During the eighth episode of The Kardashians, the 41-year-old reality star admitted that she wasn’t looking for a relationship when she first hooked up with Pete.

She then hinted at having the best sex of her life with Davidson, while adding that he’s simply the ‘best human’ she’s met.

Kim first talks about Pete after mentioning a conversation her nephew Mason had with North in their car, which she told to mother Kris Jenner.

‘I overheard their convo and Mason goes, ‘Can you drop me off at Travis’ studio?’ Kim says, adding she told him that would not be a problem.

‘He was like, ‘It’s so cool’ and he was telling North, ‘they have these bikes and it’s just so fun.’ His tune has totally changed since the engagement,’ Kim says.

‘I heard him say to North, he was like, ‘You know, getting a step-dad is not so bad. They’re not these evil people like you see in the movies,’ Kim told Kris.i

Kim adds in confession, ‘I think after hearing this conversation with Mason and North, and just hearing how he’s getting along with Travis and just loving having someone else around, I just think OK there’s hope. Someday I’ll have someone who’ll come around and hang out with the kids,’ hinting at boyfriend Pete Davidson.

Finally time to talk: At the start of their romance, Kim tried to keep things on the down low but this week on her Hulu show, The Kardashians, prying producers finally got her to get candid about why she pursued the comedian

Kim says in confessional on The Kardashians: ‘OK, you guys have stalked me long enough, I’ll finally answer you. So this is how it went down with Pete.’

A producer asks Kim, ‘So are you dating Pete? Why have you been so secretive?’

Kim responds, ‘Honestly, I just feel like I wanted to really make sure and not just be so like… ‘Oh my God I met someone and I’m having fun.’ And then just start talking about it on a show and then if we weren’t talking months later I’d be like an idiot, or a wh**e, either one.’

Back with her mom, Kim says she always feels like she’s, ‘always a step behind Kourtney’ but it’s amazing to have a ‘guide.’

‘Oh, your kids are feeling this? OK well my kids are gonna start to feel this,’ Kim tells Kris, indicating she might be ready to let her kids meet Pete, adding to her mom, ‘I’m just starting to like date.’

On camera? A camera crew filmed Kim and Pete outside of her studio which may mean fans could see the couple soon on The Kardashians

‘I was just thinking like, ‘Heard about this BDE. Need to get out there.’ I need to just like… jumpstart my… I was basically just DTF,’ Kim admits with a smile

Taking the lead: After Pete skipped Kim’s SNL afterparty, Kim called a producer and asked for his phone number

During another confession session, Kim gets a call from Pete, telling him right away, ‘Hold on, I have a mic on, I’m not entertaining this right now. No, no. No. That’s cute, I could. OK I’ve gotta go. OK bye, bye babe.’

She listens for another second or two before adding, ‘No, bye, bye, bye,’ before hanging up in confession.

Kris tells Kim that, ‘it’s nice for you to try something new. I think it is, no matter who you’re dating, my only advice would be, the minute you start bad-mouthing the other parent in front of the kids is the end of the world, for them.’

Kim agrees and says, ‘Absolutely,’ as Kris says the kids, ‘can’t handle that’ and they ‘hear everything,’ and Kim insists she would ‘never say anything bad’ about Kanye in front of the kids.

‘I text him. I wasn’t even thinking like, ‘Oh my God I’m gonna be in a relationship with him,’ Kim added

‘No matter what, I am so nice, so supportive. I would never not be that,’ Kim says, as Kris says, ‘that’s why God put you here, to raise kids and have a family and be with each other.

Kim adds in confession, ‘Even if there’s some s**t going down, I will always try my hardest to keep the co-parenting relationship positive, and I know my kids just wanna see me happy, their dad happy, everyone happy and getting along.’

Kim also opened up about Pete to her sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian, after they all worked out together at Kourtney’s house.

Khloe calls Kim by a name her father used to call her – Joge – when asking how her dating life is going… but Kim will only smile.

‘Pete has got to be literally the best human being I’ve ever met. Like the best heart. People will always say, ‘Oh he’s so funny,’ and it has to do with how funny he is. That’s like fourth on my list of why I like him.’

‘Can’t a girl just be happy and live?’ Kim says with a laugh, as Khloe says, ‘Yeah, a girl can,’ as Kim says, ‘That’s what I just keep on saying. Happiness, peace, zen, laughter, that’s all I want, and I got it.’

Khloe asks, ‘A lot of laughter?’ as Kim says, ‘Yeah, a lot of laughter,’ as Khloe continues to prod, asking, ‘Stand-up comedy?’

Kim will only laugh, as Khloe says, ‘All right, I’ll take that as a yes.’

Kim says in confession, ‘OK, you guys have stalked me long enough, I’ll finally answer you. So this is how it went down with Pete.’

They show Kim and Pete’s now-infamous Aladdin sketch on Saturday Night Live, with Kim adding, ‘I did SNL, and then when we kissed in scene, it was just a vibe and I was like, ‘Oh s**t, maybe I just need to try something different.’

She adds that Pete, ‘always wants the best for people, can handle anything, always does it with grace. He’s really really thoughtful and humble and just so genuine. I would say the perfect word to describe Pete is genuine.’

‘But Pete does not come to my after-party. Everyone was at my after-party. Does not give me the time of day. So a few days later, I called the producer at SNL and was like, ‘Hey do you have Pete’s number?’ And they were like ‘Yeah,’ Kim explained.

‘I text him. I wasn’t even thinking like, ‘Oh my God I’m gonna be in a relationship with him,’ Kim added.

‘I was just thinking like, ‘Heard about this BDE. Need to get out there.’ I need to just like… jumpstart my… I was basically just DTF,’ Kim admits with a smile.
