Nancy Pelosi breaks silence on husband Paul’s attack: ‘Heartbroken and traumatized’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter to all members of Congress that her family is “heartbroken” after a “violent man” attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi, on early Friday morning in the couple’s San Francisco residence.

“Yesterday morning, a violent man broke into our family home, demanded to confront me and brutally attacked my husband Paul. Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop. We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and emergency services, and for the life-saving medical care he is receiving,” Nancy Pelosi said in the “Dear Colleague” letter to all members of Congress on Saturday.

Nancy Pelosi said that her family has received an “outpouring” of support from other members of Congress, and wrote that Paul Pelosi’s “condition continues to improve.”

“Please know that the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes from so many in the Congress is a comfort to our family and is helping Paul make progress with his recovery. His condition continues to improve,” Pelosi wrote. “We are also comforted by the words of the Book of Isaiah: ‘Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.'”

“We thank you and pray for the continued safety and well-being of your family,” Nancy Pelosi wrote.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said that David DePape, 42, now faces charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and other felonies in relation to the attack, which happened after 2 a.m. on Friday.

When police officers arrived at the Pelosi’s residence, Scott said that Paul Pelosi and DePape were struggling over a hammer. Officers gave an order for the men to drop the hammer, and, according to Scott, DePape began attacking Paul Pelosi.

DePape was then tackled by police officers and taken into custody. Officials are investigating a possible motive.

The intersection from Paul’s Boutique is now officially “Beastie Boys Square”

Nine years after the campaign first began, efforts to rename a street corner in Manhattan “Beastie Boys Square” have now finally come to fruition. This is per Consequence, reporting on a post by the Beastieboysquare Instagram account, which broke the happy news this weekend.

The intersection, at Ludlow Street and Rivington Street in NYC, will be familiar to fans of the influential rap trio for a pretty simple reason: It’s the intersection pictured in the cover photo of the group’s 1989 sophomore album, Paul’s Boutique. (Itself a project in decade-long patience, with slow early sales and consumer confusion eventually giving way to double platinum status by 1999.)

The New York City Council approved the motion this week, after voting multiple times in the past against it, on the grounds that Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock hadn’t properly met the usual criteria for honorary naming (i.e., usually some measure of voluntary commitment to the area in question; we’d argue that 30 years of free advertising has to count for something, though.)

The New York Post quotes LeRoy McCarthy, one of the primary advocates for the change, who responded to the vote with a succinct reminder that, while it took a minute to get done, “hip-hop don’t stop.” McCarthy added, “It has been a long road to get Beastie Boys Square accomplished, but I am happy to see New York government formally embracing the indigenous arts and culture of hip hop, and the street sign is very appropriate because hip hop is from the NYC streets.”

Beastie Boys Square is one of several honorary namings approved by the Council this week, although, as far as we know, it’s the only one celebrating the concept of no sleep ‘til council recognition. The news comes as the surviving members of the Beastie Boys gear up for the 30th anniversary of the group’s third album, Check Your Head, with a vinyl re-release next month.

Report: Chris Paul’s Mother, Wife Physically Harassed by Mavericks Fans at Game 4 | Bleacher Report

A loss on the court was reportedly far from the only concern for Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul on Sunday.

Paul turned heads following the Dallas Mavericks’ 111-101 victory in Game 4 of their second-round playoff series when he suggested fans at American Airlines Center “put they hands” on members of his family:

Chris Paul @CP3

Wanna fine players for saying stuff to the fans but the fans can put they hands on our families….fuck that!!

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that fans pushed Paul’s wife, Jada, and placed hands on his mother, Robin. What’s more, his children reportedly witnessed the harassment, which left his family feeling “very unsafe.”

The Mavericks released a statement that said: “The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident between a fan and the family of Chris Paul. It was unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. The Mavericks, along with American Airlines Center, swiftly removed the fan from today’s game.”

Fan behavior has been a focal point at times during these playoffs.

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid called out Toronto Raptors fans for their chants during the first round. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green criticized Memphis Grizzlies fans for booing him when he was injured, which prompted him to flip them off as he left the court.

The NBA fined Green $25,000.

Sunday’s alleged harassment isn’t the first altercation in the series between the Suns and Mavericks, as Dallas star Luka Doncic had to be held back from going at it with a fan when the series was in Phoenix:

As for the actual basketball, Sunday was a day to forget for Paul. He fouled out in just 23 minutes of action and was on the bench for all of crunch time as the Mavericks put the game away.

Six Dallas players scored in double figures, including Doncic (26 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds) and Dorian Finney-Smith (24 points, eight rebounds and 8-of-12 shooting from three-point range).

The series returns to Phoenix for a critical Game 5 on Tuesday.

Chris Paul’s edge has Suns out for ‘revenge’

PHOENIX — He manipulates everything, from the clock to the opponent’s defensive coverages to the officials with some well-timed chicanery.

It’s fair to say the Dallas Mavericks fell apart in the final 12 minutes of a winnable Game 2 that would’ve given a young team so much momentum before heading home for a couple games.

But it’s more apt to say Chris Paul tore them apart every which way with yet another sterling fourth-quarter performance, his last as a 36-year-old.

A six-point lead turned to 10, then 15, then infinity as Paul used all his stones to power the Suns to a 2-0 Western Conference semifinal lead with a 129-109 win at Footprint Center. Fourteen of Paul’s 28 points came in the final quarter — all of them coming in the first six minutes.

He kept looking to the Dallas sideline, motioning to coach Jason Kidd, to others as his destruction almost appeared in slow motion. Faster defenders flew by him, but he out-quicked the leapers in rising up to his sweet spots for devastating twos.

Paul knew he had Dallas on the ropes, motioning for the “timeout” sign at the 8:05 mark of the fourth. Scoring or assisting on the first 19 points of the quarter, he closed the door — and let everyone know about it.

Backcourt mate Devin Booker called it a “Revenge Tour” for the Suns, who seem on a mission to avenge their Finals loss last summer to the Milwaukee Bucks.

And Paul is the unflinching, ornery general.

“Just into the game. Techs don’t need to be called or what not,” Paul said. “When you’re in the playoffs, both teams at it, getting into it and saying stuff. It’s all in the game.”

Of the four remaining point guards in the West, Paul is the most traditional — the one who can take the game plan from the whiteboard and implement it in real time, the one who can make adjustments on the fly and to this point, the one who can shift gears and morph into a different being when the time calls for it.

It’s also the perfect dichotomy to his former teammate, James Harden, who looks like a shell of himself, struggling through the discomfort of his body and new circumstances, seemingly unable to adjust.

When Paul split from Harden and Houston following the 2018-19 season, Harden was considered the safer bet by far in terms of longevity. Paul’s days as the premier speedy, athletic and quick-twitched floor leader were in question.

But time has proven Paul is better at figuring things out — first in Oklahoma City for a stretch and now in Phoenix as a quick-change artist. No longer the physical marvel, he dominates through preparation and a maniacal competitiveness that isn’t often seen for someone his age.

In a way, he’s taken a cue from Kidd. Kidd went from a one-man pressure cooker in his prime to uber-cerebral, pick-your-spots point guard during his later years. He hit key shots in the 2011 playoff run for Dallas, even though he wasn’t the best version of himself.

It can be argued Paul is close enough to his best self, even though he’ll turn 37 on Friday — the day of Game 3. In the clincher of the Suns’ first-round series against New Orleans last Friday night, Paul shot a record 14 for 14.

“He has a matchup he likes and you can hear the [opposing bench] yell, ‘Send him left.’ You can try whatever you want to do, but he has a rebuttal move for you at every turn,” Booker said. “Tough matchup.”

Playing with an edge often can manifest itself in ways that can’t be excused but at least understood in the way of ruthless competitiveness, while knowing chances at that gold ball dwindle with every passing June.

“I’d love to sit here and tell you I knew why or how he does it,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “I just think, I don’t know if our guys expect it, but I know they’re grateful for it. And you can kind of see when he starts going. Everybody else does follow suit.”

When the Suns are at their most dangerous, Paul is the big joker. Booker jokes about watching Paul when he was barely past toddlerhood, but he’s enveloped Paul’s sense of timing and made it his own.

“Just the way he manipulates it [the game], honestly,” Booker said. “I just always admired the way he does that. He’s in control at all times, he’s two, three steps ahead of whatever the other team is doing. And the leadership, that can never go unnoticed when you’re talking about this man. The way he holds people accountable, the will to win.”

Booker scored a quick eight points in less than two minutes when the Suns trailed by two at the half, a portion of his team-high 30 points along with four rebounds and four assists. To a man, they keep coy on their strategy concerning Luka Doncic, who had another big game with 35 points on 15 of 22 shooting.

But it’s clear they want to wear him down with multiple defenders, and in a way, have removed ego from the equation.

“Just win the game,” Williams said, referencing that his team doesn’t care how much Doncic scores so long as the result is to their satisfaction.

Paul and Booker shared a podium in the postgame, only looking at each other and smiling when a question came their way about Doncic and targeting him defensively.

“They’re trying to go at matchups they like, and we’re doing the same thing,” Booker said. “Tough matchup to guard, but he deserves it.”

Doncic almost has no options, with only Reggie Bullock a productive teammate. Some suffer from lack of opportunity while other times, Doncic can be his own worst enemy with seven turnovers.

Jalen Brunson again struggled with Phoenix’s length (3 of 12 shooting) and was a late victim of Paul hounding him to draw an offensive foul during the fourth-quarter run.

Phoenix is a much more complete team, going to its backup-backup big man Bismack Biyombo when Deandre Ayton and JaVale McGee were in deep foul trouble. The December pickup made all four of his field goals in 18 minutes, helping keep Phoenix afloat until Paul was ready to appear in his comfortable role.

As the closer.

Dana White responds to Jake Paul’s UFC salvo: ‘You’re too stupid’

The Dana White-Jake Paul feud continues on.

After the celebrity boxer issued a list of demands for better working conditions for UFC fighters, White responded with a video Saturday night dumping on Paul, and his proposal.

“Nobody on earth thinks you really wrote that,” White said. “You’re too stupid.”

White insinuated that the proposal, which called for long-term healthcare, fighters receiving a 50 percent share of UFC revenue and a massive increase in minimum pay, came from Paul’s manager, who he compared to a “warlock.”

“That guy used to be an accountant for me,” White said. “And let’s just say this: he no longer works for me and I think he’s a scumbag. But if you two think that you can do it better than we do, we’re doing this whole thing wrong, you can treat the fighters better than we do, knock yourself out. Start your own business.

“It’s easy to do. Get the warlock on it. The warlock can get it started for you. What you and the warlock should be focused on is your business. You’re tanking.”

Paul has been trying to get Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz away from UFC to box him, which White would need to agree to. The feud started when Paul repeatedly said White uses cocaine. White said he would be randomly tested for the next 10 years if Paul would agree to be tested for steroids for two years.

Paul responded by issuing the aforementioned list of demands.

“Jake, you never responded to the challenge,” White said. “You publicly stated that I use cocaine. I do not. … I believe that you’re a cheater, and I believe that you use steroids.”

Paul, a YouTube star, is 5-0 as a boxer, though none of his opponents have been professional boxers. He issued a video response Sunday morning in which he said, “steroid test me whenever the f–k you want.”

Logan Paul’s Pokémon Game Boy Color Project Has Folks Pissed

You ever do something in your home and think it’s cool, then share it with people online only to get roasted for ruining someone else’s happiness? That’s what’s happening to internet personality Logan Paul, who encased a bunch of beautiful Game Boy Colors in resin to make a Pokémon tabletop.

Read More: Logan Paul Wore A Pokémon Card To Mayweather Fight, Says It’s Now Worth A Million Dollars

Paul posted the project on TikTok and shared a clip to Twitter on December 26. He took 15 Game Boy Colors, including what appears to be the limited-edition Pokémon-themed one and a dandelion yellow version, and enclosed them in multiple pounds of epoxy resin. After positioning and covering the consoles in gel, Paul wrapped the tabletop with a metal Pokéball frame.

He posted a shorter follow-up video showcasing how the table lights up and changes colors, going from blue to purple to red to green and back again. It actually looks tight! It’s also a solid way to preserve some of gaming’s history by repurposing something old into something artistic and functional.

But, seeing as it’s the internet, folks are very pissed about this.

Several people bemoaned Paul’s sacrilegious act of “[putting people’s] happiness in an epoxy resin and [wasting] it,” to quote one user. Honestly, people are freaking out! Another said “drowning them” in resin wasn’t necessary for the project, while another noted that other methods—like a glass display—would’ve been “lighter” and “forever customizable.”

By far, though, folks are most pressed about Paul allegedly destroying 15 Game Boy Colors. Because, you see, the handhelds he’s supposedly ruining are perfectly fine—according to everyone’s speculation, anyway. Never mind that Game Boy Colors are purchasable on both Amazon and eBay, in addition to secondhand stores, thrift shops, and the like. And it’s certainly not like he can do what he wants with what he buys. Heaven forbid.

Look, I’m not stanning Logan Paul. The dude’s done some questionable things in the past that haunt his present. He’s also hardcore into the earth-destroying, resource-guzzling NFT grift, which…cool. Paul isn’t exactly someone I’d defend, but this pile-on is indicative of the internet’s—or rather, humanity’s—most toxic qualities. Just live and let live. Leave people alone.

Adele and Rich Paul’s grounded love story

The British singer opened up about her relationship with Klutch Sports Group founder Rich Paul during her interview with Oprah Winfrey in her “Adele One Night Only” special and here’s some of what we learned about Paul:

While Adele says the pair met a few years ago at a birthday party, she said Rich didn’t make his move until early 2021 when he asked her out for a “business meeting.”

She wasn’t buying it and told Winfrey her initial reaction was “A business meeting about what?”

“We wouldn’t be having a meeting about business,” Adele said. “It was just the first time we’d hung out only on our own, and not with other friends and stuff like that.”

Speaking of smooth

According to the Grammy winner, that’s exactly how their romance has been going.

She’s clearly smitten with the man she describes as “hilarious,” “so funny” and “very, very smart.”

And Adele admires his business sense as an agent to superstar athletes like his friend LeBron James.

“It’s quite incredible watching him do what he does,” she said.

Paul came along at the right time

Adele spoke highly of her ex-husband, Simone Konecki, with who she shares her 9-year-old son Angelo, but with Paul she said it’s the first time she’s “loved myself and been open to loving and being loved by someone else.”

“It’s just timing,” she said. “But it’d be interesting to see what my reaction is like in general to anything that hurts me now that I feel so secure in myself, and I’m talking outside of romance as well.”

Dana White after Jake Paul’s KO prediction

LAS VEGAS – Dana White seems unfazed by recent threatening comments made by YouTuber-turner-boxer Jake Paul.

Following the conclusion of UFC on ESPN 30 at the UFC Apex, White was asked about Paul’s recent statement that if he ran into White, their feud would end up with Paul “knocking him the f*ck out.”

The proposition that makes sense to the UFC president who poked fun at Paul’s boxing opponents, including post-UFC-career athletes Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

“It actually makes sense,” White told MMA Junkie at the UFC on ESPN 30 post-fight news conference. “I’m 52 years old. I’m in the age bracket of guys he fights, so yeah, I could see him wanting to fight me. It’s all he fights are 50-year-olds.”

White said he doesn’t take Paul’s threat that seriously – at least not enough to organize any legal papers. Like with his fighters, White expects “mean things” to be said in the combat sports world – even ones directed at him.

“Let me tell you what,” White said. “Get in line. There are plenty of people who would like to assault me. Get in line. It’s a long f*cking line, buddy. You’re going to be waiting for a while. No, it doesn’t bother me. This is the business we’re in. I say it all the time about the fighters, too. We are not in the nice guy business. This is a very mean business. I say many mean things about people, too. It’s just part of this game. It’s all good.”

The back-and-forth is the latest chapter in the saga of Paul and White. Although White has long said he’s not interested in doing business with Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer has remained relentless in his prodding. He constantly attempts to goad the UFC president while bringing up the issue of fighter pay.

Paul, 24, fights former UFC welterweight champion, Woodley, on Sunday in Cleveland as the headlining match of a Showtime pay-per-view. He will look to advance to 4-0 as a professional boxer against Woodley, a pro boxing debutant.

UFC on ESPN 30 took place Saturday at the UFC Apex. The card aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.
