Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s fan-created GoFundMe page ends after dismal showing: report

A GoFundMe page set up to pay off the mortgage on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s $14.6 million California estate has gone bust — after raising a measly $110, a report says.

Anastasia Hanson, 56, of California told Britain’s the Sun that she started the fundraising effort because she seriously felt sorry for the multimillionaire royal couple — after Harry publicly whined to Oprah Winfrey about being financially cut off by Buckingham Palace.

“When they came to the USA, they were without jobs and with limited funds,” said Hanson, who lives about 25 minutes from the princely pair’s palatial estate in swanky Montecito.

“They’ve stated that they’ve had a very rough time, so this fundraiser is a way to give help, compassion, and love by paying their home loan in full.”

In Markle and the prince’s bombshell TV sit-down last week, Harry defended their inking of a multitude of uber-lucrative media deals since leaving royal life, saying, “My family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us.”

Hanson’s online bid to try to financially help the royals was started a few days ago — and shut down by Saturday after just three donations, the Sun said.

Hanson kicked in $5, while “A Supporter” gave $100 and “Anonymous” bestowed $5 on the fund.

The page had read, “I am Anastasia Hanson of Ventura, California and I am raising funds to pay off the mortgage for the Montecito, California home of Harry and Meghan.

“Were 2 million supporters to donate just $5 each, the Goal is met and the loan can be paid off. After their interview, I was moved with compassion to help get their home paid off. As they are now financially independent, this will help and be a loving gift.”

The page now says, “Campaign Not Found.’’

Harry and Meghan bought their nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom manse — dubbed the Chateau of Riven Rock — in August for $14.65 million.

The prince reportedly inherited what now amounts to around $13 million from his late mother, Princess Diana.

Chrome for Android now lets you ‘preview page’

The last major update to mobile Chrome introduced a grid layout for tabs and the ability to group them. A more minor Chrome addition on Android today lets you preview a page before fully opening it.

The context menu that appears when long pressing links now has a “Preview page” option. Appearing between “Open in incognito tab” and “Copy link address,” tapping slides up a sheet for the page in question that covers the majority of your screen, but cannot be expanded further.

A top bar includes the site’s favicon, page name, and domain, as well as a button to open in a proper window (as part of groups). You can close it from the top-right corner “x” or by swiping down on the pull tab.

This addition is surprisingly useful for certain users, especially in light of how tabs open today. It gives you a chance to decide whether something is worth committing to a group, and makes you more judicious about open page/queue management.

The new “Preview page” capability is rolling out to Chrome 89 for Android via server-side update this evening. Google has been working on this feature for over two years, and it’s now ready for prime time in the stable channel.

Notice of UK paper’s loss in Meghan Markle lawsuit must appear on front page, judge rules

Notice of a British newspaper’s loss in a court case involving Meghan Markle must appear on its front page — and be posted on its website for a full week, a U.K. judge has ruled, according to a report.

The Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry in 2019 had sued Associated Newspapers Ltd. (ANL) – publisher of The Mail and its website — alleging the publications had invaded Markle’s privacy and infringed on her copyright by obtaining and then publishing the contents of a letter from Markle to her father, Thomas Markle, The Guardian reported.

Articles about the letter appeared in The Mail on Sunday and on TheMailOnline website, according to The Guardian.

DESPITE PALACE FEARS, MEGHAN MARKLEHAS ONLY ‘KIND WORDS’ FOR KATE MIDDLETON IN OPRAH INTERVIEW

The Mail’s notice about its court defeat must appear on the front page of The Mail on Sunday and must be posted on the website for a full week – and include a hyperlink to the full court ruling, high court judge Lord Justice Warby decided, according to The Guardian.

Markle had requested that the notice remain posted online for six months, “to act as a deterrent to future infringers,” but Warby was “not persuaded” that six months was appropriate, The Guardian reported.

In his decision, Warby wrote that the requested front-page notice was “modest by comparison,” considering The Mail spent more than two years devoting “a very considerable amount of space” to articles that infringed on Markle’s privacy.

The judge’s ruling included a formal declaration that ANL “misused her private information and infringed on her copyright,” The Guardian added.

ANL’s lawyers were denied permission to appeal the ruling, the report said.

A recorded television interview of Markle and Prince Harry speaking with Oprah Winfrey is scheduled to air Sunday evening on CBS.

‘Bridgerton’ star Regé-Jean Page hosts ‘SNL’ and Twitter melts down: ‘The thirst is real’

Regé-Jean Page came to play — and to smolder — in his inaugural Saturday Night Live hosting gig. The breakout Bridgerton star capitalized on the success of Netflix’s blockbuster period romance, which is officially the most successful show in the streaming service’s history, with a lively sketch comedy debut that had viewers applauding and hearts fluttering. And the British-Zimbabwean actor leaned into his sex symbol status. “People associate me with being this smoldering, sensual smokeshow,” he said in his monologue, which was frequently interrupted by the passionate cheers of devoted fans. “But I assure you, I’m just a regular guy.” Sure… a regular guy who knows how to expertly seduce the camera.

Page was joined onstage by his “personal liaisons” Aidy Bryant and Ego Nwodim, as well as Chloe Fineman, who arrived in her Regency-era finest to play his Bridgerton co-lead — and rumored real-life love interest — Phoebe Dynevor. And the performers couldn’t hide their own love for the brooding, beautiful Duke he plays on TV, even though he kept insisting otherwise. “I’m nothing like my character — I’m actually quite shy,” Page said, just before striking another smoldering pose as the SNL band cranked up the sexy music.

Bryant and Nwodim went on to cite their favorite scenes from the series… most of which featured the host and “extremely hot sex man” in various stages of undress. And, once again, the audience expressed their extreme appreciation for his commitment to the role. Page repaid them with one final bit of romantic flair, crooning the Righteous Brothers favorite “Unchained Melody,” with Ghost-level energy. “I’m happy to play the Duke: I’ve been around for awhile, though,” Page said afterwards. “I was in Roots, I’ve played high-flying lawyers. Yet somehow people just want me to be this guy who says, ‘I burn for you.'” After she found her voice again, Fineman spoke for the Studio 8H audience by saying, “Yeah, I mean why would anyone want you to do that?”

It’s safe to say that Twitter was vibing big time on Page’s energy.

And the love for Page didn’t dissipate after that smoldering monologue: many noted how the SNL writing staff gave him multiple opportunities to show off his range beyond being the handsomest guy in the room. In fact, the obligatory Bridgerton sketch was saved for the end of the show… which was just as well since it was also the weakest skit of the night. Whether he was singing sea shanties, wearing a face shield or discussing Taylor Swift, Page had the audience in the palm of his hand. After tonight, his career is officially on fire.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. on NBC

Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page is praised by producer Shonda Rhimes for the TIME100 Next list

He set hearts fluttering with his charismatic lead performance on Netflix’s hit period romance series Bridgerton.

And now Regé-Jean Page is being serenaded by Shonda Rhimes for the 2021 TIME100 Next list.

The 51-year-old writer and producer sounded almost like one of his lovestruck fans as gushed about the 31-year-old actor, calling him ‘finer than fiction’ and ‘better than any dream.’

Praised: René-Jean Page, 31, was serenaded in the pages of the TIME100 Next list by his Bridgerton producer Shonda Rhimes, 51; Page seen in 2018 in LA

‘You might dream of him, the one we call the Duke of Hastings,’ she began. ‘But in reality, Regé-Jean Page is finer than fiction and better than any dream.’

The Scandal creator went on to describe Page as a ‘rare actor, one who brings an intensity, an intelligence and a precision to his work, providing endless depth to any scene.’

She continued, writing that the actor’s enveloping performances build ‘a vibrant world for us to enter, making it impossible to imagine any other actor playing the role.’

Rhimes concluded the short tribute by adding that ‘Regé is a singular talent whose prospects are limitless.’

Effusive praise: ‘You might dream of him, the one we call the Duke of Hastings,’ Rhimes began. ‘But in reality, Regé-Jean Page is finer than fiction and better than any dream’; seen in 2019

Star to watch: The Scandal creator went on to describe Page as a ‘rare actor, one who brings an intensity, an intelligence and a precision to his work, providing endless depth to any scene’; still from Bridgerton

‘Today, he may be our duke. By tomorrow… not even I can dream big enough to imagine,’ she wrote.

Page stars on Bridgerton as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.

His chemistry with his costar Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, has been widely acclaimed, and the series as a whole earned an 89 percent fresh rating among critics sampled by Rotten Tomatoes.

Page and Dynevor were so convincing as fictional lovers that rumors cropped up that the two must have dated while filming the Netflix series, though the actress put that chatter to bed earlier this week in an interview with You Magazine.

‘I’d love to say there was really something between us. But no, it has always been strictly professional,’ she said.

‘There was so much pressure on us to get it right that it was all about the work. We have a really professional working relationship,’ continued. ‘I’m glad for that, actually. It would be very complicated if it went further.’

Perfect matches: Page stars on Bridgerton as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. His chemistry with his costar Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, has been widely acclaimed; seen together in January in London

Rising star: Prior to starring in Brigerton, Page was best known for appearing in the 2016 miniseries version of Roots and the ABC legal drama For The People; pictured in 2016 in NYC

Oddly, when Page was asked about a potential relationship during a January interview with Access Hollywood, he avoided giving a straight answer.

‘I think that everything you need to know is on camera,’ he said, before praising the show’s ‘beautiful scripts.’

Prior to starring in Brigerton, Page was best known for appearing in the Tessa Thompson drama Sylvie’s Love, along with the 2016 miniseries version of Roots and the ABC legal drama For The People.

He’ll be introduced to a new audience this weekend when he hosts Saturday Night Live for the first time.

More to come: Bridgerton is the most recent success for Rhimes, who also worked with Page on For The People. Her next series is about a the Russian-born fraudster known as Anna Delvey; seen in 2018

Bridgerton is the most recent success for Rhimes, who also worked with Page on For The People.

Next up, she’ll be writing and producing the series Inventing Anna for Netflix.

The show, which she also created, is based on the New York Magazine article How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People, about a Russian-born woman who pretended to be a wealthy German heiress in order to defraud New York socialites.
