Outraged Celine Dion fans protest outside offices Rolling Stone after music mag omitted from top 200

Because they loved her, fans of Celine Dion have taken to the streets of New York to protest outside the offices of Rolling Stone Magazine after she failed to appear in the publication’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time list.

The superstar Canadian singer may have 11 number one hits under her belt and have spent 87 weeks at the very top of the charts, but it was still not enough to make the new year rundown which saw Aretha Franklin come top and Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey making the top five.

On Friday, a group of fans gathered in front of the magazine’s offices to protest Dion’s omission from the magazine’s list.

Calling themselves the ‘Red Heads,’ they carried signs with messages such as ‘We want a recount,’ ‘How can you forget Celine?’, and ‘Rolling Stone, you’ve hit an iceberg,’ a quirky reference to Dion’s hit song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the film Titanic.

Fans of Celine Dion have taken to the streets of New York to protest outside the offices of Rolling Stone Magazine after she failed to appear in the publication’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time list.

On Friday, a group of fans gathered in front of the offices of Rolling Stone to protest Dion’s exclusion from the magazine’s list.

Fans made all manner of creative signs including some that were very straightforward

Celine Dion failed to appear in the publication’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time list

Another sign declared ‘Rolling Stone is stoned’ for its omission.

Videos of the Red Heads preparing for the protest were posted on an Instagram fan account with the fans hoping that Rolling Stone will admit to making a mistake in leaving Dion off the list.

‘We hope that Rolling Stone will admit that they made a mistake,’ one fan put simply.

Dion who is the best-selling Canadian recording artist of all-time failed to poll despite her many awards – including five Grammy’s – while many other newer artists, including SZA, Adele and Taylor Swift appeared on the chart.

Rolling Stone has defended its decision, stating that it based the list on ‘originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog and the breadth of their musical legacy.’

Fans demanded that Rolling Stone include the singer in their top 200 list

At the very least, the fans say they would like an apology from Rolling Stone Magazine

The publication also wrote in its article: ‘Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List.’

There were no big surprises in the Top 10 of the RS list, other than Dion being missed off it.

Many would agree that having Aretha Franklin at the number one spot is a no-brainer, which was followed up by Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday and Mariah Carey, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Otis Reeding and Al Green.

While soul and R&B artists dominated the Top 10, those ranked between 11 and 20 were far more varied and eclectic with the addition of rock and pop singers.

The superstar Canadian singer has had 11 number one hits and has spent 87 weeks at the very top of the charts

Rock and roll icons Little Richard and John Lennon were at 11 and 12, followed by Patsy Cline, Freddie Mercury, Bob Dylan, Prince, Elvis Presley, Celia Cruz, Frank Sinatra and Marvin Gaye.

When Rolling Stone first published its 100 Greatest Singers list in 2008, journalists ‘used an elaborate voting process that included input from well-known musicians’ that skewed toward classic rock and singers from the 1960s and 1970s.

This updated version was complied by the publication’s staff and key contributors, and trended towards the last 100 years of popular music, while asking its readers to ‘keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List.’

Last month, Dion singer said she was ‘focusing on her health and children’ after being diagnosed with rare neurological condition Stiff Person Syndrome, which causes her muscles to tense uncontrollably.

The 54-year-old singer moved fans to tears as she revealed she had the incurable neurological condition in an Instagram post – which has forced her to postpone her European tour.

The condition, which affects one in a million people, ultimately leaves sufferers as ‘human statues’ as it progressively locks the body into rigid positions, leaving sufferers unable to walk or talk.

While there is no cure for SPS, there are treatments to slow down the progression, with Dion revealing she is doing all she can to minimize symptoms.

Celine shares three sons with her late husband – Rene-Charles, 21, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 12 (pictured in May)

She penned: ‘Hello everyone, I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reach out to you. I miss you all so much and can’t wait to be on stage talking to you in person.

‘As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before but I’m ready now.

‘I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it has been really difficult for me to face my challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.

‘Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome, which affects one in a million people.

‘While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having.’

It’s the latest tragedy to befall Celine following her husband Rene Angelil’s death aged 73 in 2016 (pictured in 2012)

Detailing the impact the condition has had on her, Celine continued: ‘Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.

‘It hurts me to tell you today that this means I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February.

‘I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better and my precious children who are supporting me and giving me help.

‘I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build bac my strength and my ability to perform again but I have to admit it’s been a struggle.

‘All I know is singing it’s what I’ve done all my life and its what I love to do the most.

‘I miss you so much. I miss seeing all of you being on the stage performing for you.

‘I always give 100 percent when I do my show but my condition is now allowing me to give you that right now.

‘For me to reach you again, I have no choice but to concentrate on my health at this moment, and I have hope that I’m on the road to recovery.

‘This is my focus, and I’m doing everything I can to recuperate.

‘I want to thank you so much for your wishes and love and support on my social media. This means a lot to me.

‘Take care of yourselves. Be well. I love you guys so much and I really hope I can see you again real soon.’

The announcement came three months after she had to cancel the start of her Las Vegas comeback residency over the same health issue.

Celine has become known as ‘Queen Of Las Vegas’ because of her enormously successful residencies there.

After retiring from her famous Caesars Palace residency in 2019, she was coaxed back to Sin City to perform at the new Resorts World on the Strip.

A statement on her website said that Celine ‘recently has been treated for severe and persistent muscle spasms which are preventing her from performing, and her recovery is taking longer than she hoped.

‘Her medical team continues to evaluate and treat the condition.’

Twitter sued after Elon Musk failed to pay rent on San Francisco offices

Elon Musk’s Twitter is being sued by the tech giant’s landlord in San Francisco for non-payment of rent.

Musk owes $136,250 in back rent for the offices, according to Bloomberg. Earlier this week, it was reported that Twitter is being evicted from other offices across the world for the same reasons.

The company’s landlord Columbia Reit filed a complaint in court in San Francisco on Thursday alleging that it told Twitter on the 16th of December that they would have to vacate the offices within five days, they did not comply, reports Bloomberg.

At the time of writing, there has been no public statement from Twitter on the spate of missed rent payments. The company is also being sued for non-payment of charter flights.

Musk owes $136,250 in back rent for the offices, according to Bloomberg

The offices are located on the 30th floor of the Hartford Building at 650 California Street in the city’s financial district. The building’s other tenants include Omnicom Group, Affirm and Credit Suisse.

The building is not the company’s headquarters, which are located along Market Street, less than two miles away from the California Street location.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Musk was no longer paying rent on Twitter’s Seattle office and was also plotting to shutter one of the firm’s New York offices.

The San Francisco headquarters has been condensed from four floors to two, with luxurious perks now reportedly scrapped in favor of stinky offices that are no longer cleaned.

And one of the travel expenses Musk has refused to pay included a $197,725 tab for private flights which were taken the very week he took over the company.

Numerous other travel vendors have also gone unpaid, according to the Times.

The payment over that private charter bill has gone to court in New Hampshire.

In another drastic change, the billionaire sent staff to a Sacramento data storage facility to shut down servers on Christmas Eve. The center was one of three critical server facilities that had kept the social network running smoothly.

Some expressed concern that losing the servers could cause problems but were told the priority was to save money, according to the New York Times.

Some workers were hauled into work during the festive period because systems went down and internal data was potentially lost.

Twitter has stopped paying millions of dollars in rent and services in the past few months – with Musk ordering his staff to renegotiate the agreements or end them completely.

The company is facing eviction from its Seattle office after failing to pay rent on the building, with security personnel also being cut in Musk’s money-saving spree.

In San Francisco, he has consolidated workers onto two floors and closed four, sacking janitors after workers went on strike for better wages.

It has left the office reeking of leftover takeout and body odor according to current and former employees.

Bathrooms have been left dirty, and Musk is now turning his efforts to weed out the sources of leaks to the press regarding the company.

He is focusing on eliminating people inside the company that he believes are opposed to him – as well as being described as having an ‘erratic’ management style.

Staff claim that he often interrupts meetings at random and talks for long stretches, demanding top leaders be sounding boards for his ideas.

Many employees are expecting more layoffs as US revenue numbers continue to flag – despite Musk hiring several new employees to replace those terminated during the mass layoffs.

The SpaceX boss said on a live Twitter forum last week that the company is a ‘plane that is headed towards the ground at high speed with the engines on fire and the controls don’t work.’

He claims that Twitter is on track to have a ‘negative cash flow situation’ of about $3billion in 2023 – attributing it to his ‘crazy’ cost-cutting.

Musk said he will appoint a new CEO of Twitter, after putting it to a vote on the social media platform.

Since early November he sought to save around $500 million in non-labor costs and has laid off nearly 75 per cent of the company’s workforce since taking over.

Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has also been partly-blamed for the 70 percent drop in the share price of his electric car firm Tesla.

Key investors there are said to be upset he is not giving the pioneering firm his undivided attention.

Hundreds of workers leaving Tyson Foods as company closes offices: report

Hundreds of employees at Tyson Foods have decided not to relocate to the company’s headquarters in Arkansas next year as the company consolidates its corporate offices.

The workers are reportedly from two of its largest business units, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Tyson announced in October that it planned to close its offices in Chicago, Downers Grove, Ill., and Dakota Dunes, S.D.

Those corporate employees work in the prepared foods, beef and pork divisions. About 1,000 employees total work in those locations, the company has said.

Tyson set a deadline of Nov. 14 to decide if they would relocate.

About three-quarters of the 500 employees in Tyson’s South Dakota office told the company they wouldn’t make the move.

More than 90% of the employees in Tyson’s Chicago office have declined to relocate, people told the Journal.

Nationwide, the meat company has about 120,000 employees, with about 114,000 of them working in production plants.

‘SNL’ Skechers Ad Spoofs Kanye West‘s Visit To Company’s Offices – Deadline

A day after Adidas ended its business relationship with Kanye West following his repeated antisemitic comments, the rapper made an “unannounced” visit to a Skechers corporate office in LA on Wednesday and was escorted from the building.

The incident was parodied in a Saturday Night Live Skechers ad.

“Here at Skechers, we pride ourselves on two things, making stylish, comfortable shoes at an affordable price and having zero tolerance for antisemitism,” a Skechers rep played by Cecily Strong said.

Added another staffer played by Bowen Yang, “That’s why earlier this week Kanye West showed up at our corporate office, asking to work with us. We said ‘no’ and immediately escorted him out of the building.”

While noting that Skechers is appalled by West’s “horrific comments” and vows to never to work with him, Strong’s executive added, “But we also want to point out that of all companies he could’ve approached and get rejected by, he chose Skechers.”

Said Yang’s rep, “Two years ago, can you imagine the headline, ‘Skechers too good for Kanye?’,” later adding, “What would you call a Kanye Skechers shoe anyway, a Skeezy?”

The Skechers team took shots at other shoe companies.

“It took Adidas so many days to decide not to work with him. He walked in we were, buy, buh-bye, door,” Strong’s character said, while Yang’s questioned why Crocs has been quiet on West’s comments.

He then concluded, “I’m sure Kanye will find a morally dubious company to work with instead,” with the ad cutting to Michael J. Lindell (James Austin Johnson) announcing a My Pillow collaboration with West.

SEC to address growing crypto issuer filings with specialized offices

In light of the influx of filings from cryptocurrency issuers in the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) decided to set up two new offices this fall to provide specialized support to the seven offices currently responsible for reviewing issuer filings.

Under the Division of Corporation Finance’s Disclosure Review Program (DRP), the SEC announced plans to add two offices — an Office of Crypto Assets and an Office of Industrial Applications and Services — purely focused on dealing with crypto assets and industrial applications and services, respectively.

Sharing insights into the move, Renee Jones, director of the Division of Corporation Finance, stated:

“The creation of these new offices will enable the DRP to enhance its focus in the areas of crypto assets, financial institutions, life sciences, and industrial applications and services and facilitate our ability to meet our mission.”

According to the announcement, the Office of Crypto Assets will take over DRP’s effort to review crypto filings, allowing the department to refocus its resources “to address the unique and evolving filing review issues related to crypto assets.”

The Office of Industrial Applications and Services, on the other hand, will be set up to take over non-pharma, non-biotech, and non-medicinal products from the Office of Life Sciences.
