This New Switch Controller Revives Nintendo’s Best Controller Ever

NYXI, a gaming peripheral controller maker, recently announced a new third-party controller for the Nintendo Switch. The design is not only reminsicent of the WaveBird — aka the best Nintendo controller ever — but the company claims that this controller will never get Joy-Con drift.

The NYXI Wizard Wireless Joy-Pad is a wireless controller that features an array of customization, including two remappable back buttons, in addition to interchangeable joystick rings. You could, for example, use a round joystick to play racing games or put an octagonal joystick circle on the controller when you are about to play a fighting game. NYXI claims the battery life is roughly 6.5 hours on a single full charge.

One of the biggest selling points for the Wizard controller is the claim that it will not suffer from Joy-Con drift. NYXI claims it can achieve this because the Wizard uses a Hall Effect joystick. For quick context, Hall Effect joysticks use a magnetic system meaning that the joystick never physically touches the sensor itself. With Joy-Con drift one of the biggest ongoing issues with the Nintendo Switch, this controller certainly appeals to those looking for a solution to this issue.

The NYXI Wizard is available right now on NYXI’s website and costs $69.

Nintendo Minute Videos Are Being Set To Private On Nintendo’s YouTube Channel

Image: Nintendo

A year ago, subscribers of Nintendo of America’s official YouTube channel got quite a shock when ‘Nintendo Minute’ hosts Kit and Krysta uploaded their final video after more than 8 years and over 400 episodes.

If you’ve ever wanted to go back and relive the journey, you might want to hurry up. After just over a year since their departure from Nintendo, Kit and Krysta have noted on social media how Nintendo is now setting these episodes to private.

“We’ve been hearing from people today that Nintendo Minute videos are being set to private on the Nintendo channel. We checked and…yup!

“More than ever we’re so thankful to have our own channel now, where we feel our content is the best it’s ever been. It’s a shame people won’t be able to watch these classic videos anymore, but it’s going to be OK.”

We had a look ourselves, and even their final goodbye episode has been set to private by Nintendo. Ouch! Fortunately, it seems like Kit & Krysta may have archived these episodes:

When Nintendo Minute wrapped up at the end of last year, both Kit and Krysta made the decision to move from the company. Since then, they’ve set up their own YouTube channel Kit & Krysta – sharing many stories and secrets about Nintendo and the video game industry, and also featuring guests like Reggie and Geoff Keighley.

Nintendo’s YouTube Channel Gets Renamed, Loses Verification Tick

Image: Nintendo

Verification ticks are an important part of social media and websites like YouTube nowadays – allowing users to easily identify legitimate channels and accounts. With this in mind, it seems Nintendo’s American YouTube channel has recently lost its tick.

As highlighted in a post on the Nintendo subreddit (via GoNintendo), the Nintendo channel for America, simply called “Nintendo” has recently been renamed to “Nintendo of America”. In the process, it has lost its verification badge.

The Nintendo of America channel will no doubt get its check mark back sooner or later. Until then, this is essentially a heads-up that it’s had a name change, and that it’s still the official channel and not a fake account. Another easy way to work this out is by looking at the subscriber count. The real channel has around 8.61 million subs.

As some comments in the same thread suggest, this name change could possibly be due to new YouTube policies or even tied to Nintendo wanting particular branding on certain channels. If you aren’t already subscribed to Nintendo’s YouTube channels, it’s well worth it – with new trailers normally uploaded every week.

If we hear any updates about this story, we’ll let you know.

Nintendo Direct Livestreams Return To Nintendo’s New York Store

Image: Nintendo

In case you somehow missed it, we’re getting a full 40-minute Nintendo Direct tomorrow – “mostly” focused on games coming out on the Switch this winter.

If you happen to be based in New York, or somewhere nearby, you can go and join the party at the Nintendo NY Store for this event. As GoNintendo notes, it’s the first time fans have been able to do this since the pandemic started.

The store confirmed this on Twitter, but also noted how there’s only a “limited” amount of space, so it’s “first-come, first-served”:

Nintendo Life was in attendance at the store’s recent Splatoon 3 midnight launch. You can get our full rundown of the event in the following link:

Will you be attending any sort of event to view this upcoming Direct? Or are you perhaps joining in on the celebrations here on Nintendo Life? Leave a comment below.

Steam now supports Nintendo’s classic controllers for Switch Online

Steam’s latest update adds support for Nintendo’s classic controllers that it makes for Nintendo Switch. While Valve’s patch notes are somewhat vague — “Added support for Nintendo Online classic controllers” — the change means Steam now supports the Switch-specific NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and Sega Genesis controllers, Valve spokesperson Kaci Aitchison Boyle confirmed to The Verge.

If you want to pick up one of those controllers to use with Steam, you should know that you can only purchase them if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber. You can grab the NES and SNES controllers right now, but the N64 and Genesis controllers are currently out of stock. Nintendo’s website doesn’t indicate when they might be available again, but when they are, you’re going to want to jump on them quickly.

Fighting game fans might be happy to hear that Qanba’s Obsidian and Dragon Arcade joysticks and Hori’s Fighting Stick Mini 4 are now supported in Steam as well. And Valve has made some improvements in how Steam supports Sony’s DualSense controller: on Windows, you’ll be able to see a firmware update dialog (which follows the release of Sony’s official DualSense firmware updater app for PC), and controllers with updated firmware will have “improved rumble emulation” enabled.

Update July 27th, 8:10PM ET: Added confirmation from Valve about which Nintendo controllers are supported.
