Nicki Minaj, Maluma, Myriam Fares reveal tournament’s anthem

Nicki Minaj, Colombian singer-songwriter Maluma and Lebanese artist Myriam Fares released their new song just in time for the World Cup.

Titled “Tukoh Taka,” the trilingual song features English, Spanish and Arabic lyrics relating to the event which will take place in Qatar.

“Tukoh Taka” reached the No. 3 spot on iTunes charts, behind Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” and Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”

The music video on FIFA’s Youtube channel has achieved 3.7 million views since its upload yesterday afternoon.

The World Cup anthem follows in the footsteps of other successful soccer songs.

Ricky Martin earned a Grammy Award for best Latin pop performance following the release of “Copa de la Vida” for the 1998 World Cup.

Twelve years later, Shakira released “Waka Waka,” which garnered 3.2 billion views on Youtube and reached the No. 38 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Megan Thee Stallion files a restraining order against her record label

Megan Thee Stallion has filed a restraining order against both her record label, 1501 Entertainment, and distributor, 300 Entertainment, for trying to interfere with her American Music Awards nomination.

The 27-year-old rapper (born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) filed the restraining order claiming 1501 made, ‘threatening and retaliatory’ moves that blocked her from using her music in connection with the AMA’s, which will be handed out on Sunday.

She is nominated for Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist, going up against Cardi B, GloRilla, Latto and Nicki Minaj.

Megan had sued 1501 in February claiming she had fulfilled the contract, though the label filed a countersuit, claiming the compilation album doesn’t count as a full album.

The label claims her contract states any new album must have at least 12, ‘new master recordings of studio performances,’ and Something For Thee Hotties doesn’t.

The label also claims they have full approval over all the tracks and they didn’t approve anything in Something For Thee Hotties, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 album charts in late October 2021.

Megan would go on to release her second full-length studio album, Traumazine, in August through 1501 Entertainment and 300 Entertainment.

The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 album charts, her fifth Top 10 album following 2019’s Fever, 2020’s Sugar and Good News and 2021’s Something For Thee Hotties.

She first signed to 1501 Entertainment back in 2018, though she started the #FreeTheeStallion hashtag in March 2020 to make fans aware of her issues with the record label.

Driver who killed Nicki Minaj’s father in accident is sentenced to spend just ONE year behind bars

Charles Polevich, 71, (pictured) was sentenced to one year behind bars on Wednesday for killing Nicki Minaj’s father Robert Maraj, 64, in February 2021 car accident on Long Island

The driver who killed Nicki Minaj’s father in a hit-and-run accident has been sentenced to one year behind bars and his license suspended for six months.

Charles Polevich, 71, was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to leaving a scene of an accident and tampering with physical evidence – both felonies – after killing Robert Maraj, 64, in February 2021 car accident on Long Island.

He has also been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

The older man originally faced up to seven years, but the judge promised he wouldn’t sentence him for more than a year, according to TMZ.

The victim’s widow, Carol, told reporters she was ‘not happy’ with the planned sentence at the time. The widow, who is suing Polevich for $150million, said seeing him in court left her shaking at the memory of her husband fighting for his life in the hospital.

Prosecutors, who sought a one-to-three-year prison sentence, also took issue with the planned penalty.

Maraj had been walking on Long Island when Polevich hit him. He initially got out of his car and looked at the injured man on the ground, but then drove off, didn’t call 911, garaged his car and covered it with a tarp, authorities said.

The singer’s father was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died the next day.

Polevich (pictured on Wednesday) was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and will have his license suspended after he attempted to hide his vehicle after the accident

Carol Maraj (left, with husband, Robert, in 2013) told reporters she was ‘not happy’ with the planned sentence. The widow is suing Polevich for $150million

Polevich’s lawyer, Marc Gann, previously called the hit-and-run ‘completely out of character’ for his client, who hails from Long Island, but has a drilling and water purification business in Guam.

‘He does feel tremendous empathy for Mr. Maraj’s family and tremendous remorse for any role he played in his death,’ Gann said by phone after court. He suggested that Polevich might have had a medical problem that made him not ‘fully aware of what he was doing,’ while noting that it wasn’t a legal justification.

Polevich, who spent a lot of time in Guam but has a home in Mineola, initially got out of his car, observed Maraj lying on the ground, then got back behind the wheel and drove to his home, where he then parked his Volvo in the garage and covered it up, according to police.

The Grammy award winner – who is best known for her songs Super Bass and Anaconda – had previously commented on her father’s death, writing that it was ‘the most devastating loss of my life’ on her website last year.

In interviews years ago, she described a troubled relationship with her father. But she later said he had changed.

After his death, she wrote about wishing she could pick up the phone and talk to him.

Nicki said losing her father was ‘the most devastating loss of my life’

‘He was very loved & will be very missed,’ she wrote.

Detectives used surveillance video from the neighborhood to track the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash to Polevich’s home in the 160 block of Roselle Street in Mineola.

Officers then offered Polevich the opportunity to surrender at police headquarters.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident and tampering with evidence.

Police said that had Polevich stayed at the scene and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, he would have avoided criminal charges.

Nicki Minaj Appears To Diss Kanye West During Essence Festival Performance

Nicki Minaj seemed to call Kanye West a “clown” during a performance of “Monster” at Essence Festival on Friday.

Nicki Minaj cut short her performance of “Monster,” at Essence Festival on Friday night, remarking that she doesn’t “fuck with clowns.” The Kanye West track famously features what many fans believe to be Minaj’s best guest verse.

After performing several of her biggest tracks including, “Do We Have A Problem,” “We Go Up,” “Did It On ’em,” and “Beez in the Trap,” her DJ began to play “Monster,” before Minaj shut it down.

“A monster though!” Minaj began. “A monster though! But we don’t fuck with clowns.”

From there, she introduced Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman and Lil Wayne as her special guests for the set. They performed “#1 Stunna,” “Seeing Green,” “High School,” “Truffle Butter” and “A Milli.”

If Minaj’s comments were intended as a diss, it’s unclear what prompted things to sour between the two artists. Some fans online began to theorize that West’s recent collaboration with Cardi B on “Hot Shit” could be the cause.

West has yet to respond to Minaj’s performance.

“Monster” was released in 2010 and was included on the tracklist for West’s fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. In addition to Minaj, the track features Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and Bon Iver.

Essence Festival is scheduled to resume on Sunday with performances by Summer Walker, The Roots and Friends, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and more.

As Nicki slipped into her British accent, James asked her ‘where that comes from?’ pointing out ‘you know you just sound like Adele?’

Poking fun at Adele’s February appearance at an NBA All-Star game, Nicki said in her British accent: ‘I know! I go viral for basically anything. I sit down at the basketball game and I do one of these. I don’t look at the camera. People pay for these sort of viral moments, you know what I mean?!’

The hitmaker then shared her thoughts on Adele’s Carpool Karaoke appearance in 2016 which saw her perform a perfect rendition of Nicki’s hit Monster.

Nicki told James that it made her ‘so happy’ to hear a different style of music from the songstress, gushing: ‘She embodied Nicki Minaj. She’s singing these sad songs so you don’t expect it from her from.’

Nicki went on to perform an acapella version of Adele’s 2011 hit Someone Like You, belting out the high notes before later performing renditions of her own songs, including Blick Blick, Super Bass, Anaconda, Do We Have A Problem and Starships.

Later, Nicki opened up about her battle with anxiety, explaining that she is constantly chewing on ice because ‘it’s like an anxiety ball, a stress ball. Every time I’m biting the ice it’s taking out the anxiety.’

‘I think when I was younger, probably my more natural state was to be more confident,’ she explained. ‘But I think when you are a woman and you’re in the public eye all the time, if you’re not careful, you can become less confident because you’re being constantly scrutinized’.

‘It’s not natural for a human being to just always feel like everyone’s critiquing them.’

She explained that she had ‘an amazing sense of freedom’ when she first started out in the industry because ‘nobody gave a f**k about what I was doing, I could get away with doing anything.’

‘It goes from that to the complete, complete opposite where if I blink my eye wrong, they’ll have a story made up about why I blinked my eye that way,’ she said.

James asked her how she protects herself from that, and she revealed: ‘Whenever I am off of social media and I take that sh*t off my phone, I have this enormous sense of peace. And then you realise what really matters.’

The star, who has rarely spoken about her son in interviews since she gave birth in 2020, also admitted she raps and sings and ‘makes up melodies for him all day.’

James also get a lesson in Minaj terminology as she attempted to explain that ‘ops’ means ‘opposition’. She said: ‘If y’all got beef with James, I’m gonna let y’all know right now we popping up! We poppin’ ops! James if you’re gonna hang out with me, you gotta at least know the lingo! Ops means opposition! We gonna make it blick, blick!’

She also labelled James’ attempt at beatboxing not a complete fail, quipping: ‘On the white scale, that wasn’t that white,’ before showing off her clarinet skills.

Her own world: James asked her how she protects herself from that, and she revealed: ‘Whenever I am off of social media and I take that sh*t off my phone, I have this enormous sense of peace. And then you realise what really matters’

Angela Kukawski, manager whose clients included the Kardashians, found dead in Simi Valley after apparent homicide

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) — Nearly a week after celebrity business manager Angela “Angie” Kukawski was found dead inside her vehicle in Simi Valley, authorities on Wednesday announced the arrest of her boyfriend on suspicion of murder.

Los Angeles and Simi Valley police investigators responded to the 1500 block of Patricia Ave in Simi Valley on Dec. 23, following up on a missing-person investigation, the LAPD said in a statement.

Kukawski, 55, had been reported missing a day earlier, the news release said. Her body was discovered inside her vehicle, which was parked on Patricia Avenue.

The woman’s boyfriend, 49-year-old Jason Barker, was arrested and booked into a jail facility in Van Nuys, where he was being held on $3.07 million bail, according to jail records. The L.A. County district attorney’s office later filed murder charges in the case.

Detectives believe Barker killed Kukawski inside their home in Sherman Oaks, put her inside her car, drove it to Simi Valley, parked it and left her inside, authorities said.

Fauci says there is “no evidence” to support Nicki Minaj’s suggestion that the COVID vaccine causes impotency

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, has debunked a viral tweet from rapper Nicki Minaj that suggested the COVID-19 vaccine could cause reproductive issues. Minaj, who has over 22 million Twitter followers, sparked controversy Monday for a series of tweets she posted about the COVID-19 vaccine ahead of the Met Gala.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met,” the 38-year-old wrote. “if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one”

She later clarified that she was skipping the gala because of her young child — who was born last September — not because of the vaccine requirement. But Minaj posted another tweet about her cousin’s friend in Trinidad who allegedly experienced impotency after getting the jab, and it prompted a wide response from both fans and health officials.

In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Fauci was asked if the COVID vaccine could cause any reproductive issues in men or women. Fauci replied, “The answer to that is a resounding no.”

“There’s no evidence that it happens, nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen,” he said.

Fauci appeared on the show to discuss vaccine efforts and was speaking on vaccine skepticism in Black and Hispanic communities, something he continues to blame on misinformation.

“There’s a lot of misinformation, mostly on social media, and the only way we know to counter mis- and disinformation is to provide a lot of correct information,” Fauci said. “To essentially debunk these kinds of claims, which may be innocent on her part. I’m not blaming her for anything, but she should be thinking twice about propagating information that really has no basis.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also debunked the myth in a memo posted to its website in August. “There is currently no evidence that any vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines, cause fertility problems in women or men,” the guidance said.

In her Twitter thread, Minaj continued to assert that she was not opposed to the vaccine and would most likely be vaccinated when she had completed more research and was ready to go on tour.

“I know babe. A lot of countries won’t let ppl work w/o the vaccine,” she tweeted in response to a fan who claimed they got a vaccine for work. “I’d def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc.”

Minaj also praised a fan who received the vaccine and did not experience any side effects: “That’s amazing babe. This is the norm.”

Over 75.8% of adults in the United States have been at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19, and a total of 179.3 million people are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. But data shows African American and Hispanic communities are still less vaccinated, and therefore more likely to die from COVID-19, than their White counterparts, according to the CDC.

Fauci and other medical leaders are asking “trusted messengers,” including clergy, teachers, and politicians, to answer questions people in their communities have about the vaccine and hopefully encourage them to get vaccinated.

“I believe we are making progress,” Fauci said. “We’re not where we want to be with regards to the number of African Americans and Hispanics vaccinated, but we’re doing better than we were before.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Minaj said she’d accepted an invitation to go to the White House.

“The White House has invited me & I think it’s a step in the right direction,” she tweeted. “Yes, I’m going. I’ll be dressed in all pink like Legally Blonde so they know I mean business. I’ll ask questions on behalf of the ppl who have been made fun of for simply being human. #BallGate day 3.”

In a statement to CBS News, a White House official said: “As we have with others, we offered a call with Nicki Minaj and one of our doctors to answer questions she has about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.”

Following Wednesday’s slew of tweets, Minaj posted on her Instagram stories that Twitter restricted her ability to tweet.

“I’m in Twitter jail y’all,” Minaj wrote. “They didn’t like what I was saying over there on that block.”

A Twitter spokesperson told CBS News in a statement that Twitter “did not take any enforcement action” on Minaj’s account. The company has suspended several major figures in the past for spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

As of Wednesday night, Minaj’s account was still active.

Colbert Audience Goes Nuts After A Scathing Joke About Tucker Carlson’s Junk

Stephen Colbert devoted about half of his monologue to the bizarre saga of Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend, who supposedly suffered swollen testicles after getting the coronavirus vaccine.

But the “Late Show” host saved some of his harshest comments for Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who has spent three straight nights obsessing over the nutty story as he continues to push anti-vaxxer talking points.

Carlson even had to issue an on-air apology for getting a key detail wrong.

“I’m glad to see Fox News has finally come to terms with some of its dangerous misstatements,” Colbert said sarcastically. “This time, it’s not trivial stuff like ‘Was the election stolen?’ or ‘Should I huff horse medicine?’ No, Fox viewers, you gotta squirt that straight up your butt.”

Colbert also did a version of the “seen here” joke after throwing up this image of Carlson as in “seen here discussing the size of his own balls”:

Colbert’s fully vaccinated audience went nuts.

Carlson, who recently admitted to lying on his show, offered to go to Trinidad and Tobago to interview Minaj’s cousin’s friend so Colbert made a similar offer, except to interview the balls.

“The point is, I will go anywhere for a sit-down with these giant balls,” Colbert said. “However, I draw the line at interviewing a talking dick.”

Once again, an image of Carlson appeared.

Twitter Denies Suspending Nicki Minaj Over COVID Vaccine Tweets, White House Denies Inviting Her for a Visit

One Nicki Minaj tweet after another is being debunked this week.

The pop star said Wednesday that she had been invited to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to discuss her recent tweets about coronavirus vaccines, but the White House responded that it had just offered her a phone call. After she said she had been locked out of her Twitter account over the same tweets, Twitter said it had not penalized her in any way. When she cited a secondhand story about a cousin’s friend’s testicles swollen as the result of a coronavirus vaccine, top public health officials in multiple countries said her claims were false.

A White House official told The Daily Beast: “As we have with others, we offered a call with Nicki Minaj and one of our doctors to answer questions she has about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.”

Dubbing the rolling controversy over her vaccine hesitancy “Ballgate,” Minaj said Wednesday that she had even planned her outfit for the occasion.

“The White House has invited me & I think it’s a step in the right direction. Yes, I’m going. I’ll be dressed in all pink like Legally Blonde so they know I mean business. I’ll ask questions on behalf of the ppl who have been made fun of for simply being human. #BallGate day 3,” she tweeted.

The rapper made it seem as though the tweet would be her last, at least for a while. She wrote via Instagram the same evening that she was in “Twitter jail” and unable to post.

“I’m in Twitter jail y’all. They didn’t like what I was saying over there on that block, I guess. My poll was gonna be ‘Asking questions is OK/I like being fking dumb.’ Then boom. Can’t tweet,” she wrote.

Twitter, however, said that it had not levied any penalty against her. The company said in a statement: “Twitter did not take any enforcement action on the account referenced.”

The supposed invitation to the White House arose from a headline-making announcement the pop star made at the start of this week: She would not be attending Monday’s Met Gala, which required attendees to be vaccinated. She has not been immunized, and if she did get the jab, she tweeted, it “won’t [be] for the Met.” She said she would likely get vaccinated before going on tour.

She followed up the admission with the justification that she was waiting until “I feel I’ve done enough research,” which included a bizarre secondhand tale from a cousin.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she wrote.

The story set social media aflame with jokes and corrections that reached the highest levels of public health. Both Dr. Anthony Fauci and Trinidad’s Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh responded: Her claims were false. Fauci said of impotence and the swollen testicles, “There’s no evidence that it happens, nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen.” Deyalsingh said the country’s health department had found “absolutely no reported such side effect or adverse event” that corresponded to her story.

Before she was allegedly locked out of her Twitter account, Minaj spent much of Wednesday and the preceding two days responding to praise and anger over her vaccine hesitancy. Minaj’s fans, whom she refers to as “Barbz” after her own moniker of “Barbie,” appeared divided over her skepticism and apoplectic over her subsequent alignment with a strange bedfellow: Tucker Carlson.

The Fox News host devoted two nights of coverage to the saga of Minaj’s cousin’s friend on his eponymous show, even urging the man to call in. The rapper tweeted a clip Wednesday, calling Carlson’s segment a “bullseye” with an emoji. In the video, Carlson said, “It’s not anything to do with the physical effects of the vaccines that makes our political class mad. It’s the last part of Nicki Minaj’s tweet that enrages them, the part where she says you should pray on it, make the decision yourself like a free human being and ‘don’t be bullied.’ So our media and public health officials didn’t like this because they make their livings bullying people, so they couldn’t let it stand.”

One fan wrote of Carlson, “Naur Nicki he’s a racist and white supremacist.”

The pop star responded, referencing MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid’s criticism of her tweets: “The black woman lied on me & made ppl attack me. But I can’t quote this man who did the opposite. Okay. F–K HIM. YASSSSSSSWOOHOOOOOOOOOO happy now? Brain dead.”

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker replied to her, “You know he’s a white nationalist right?”

Minaj responded with defiance: “Right. I can’t speak to, agree with, even look at someone from a particular political party. Ppl aren’t human any more. If you’re black & a Democrat tells u to shove marbles up ur ass, you simply have to. If another party tells u to look out for that bus, stand there & get hit.”

Late Wednesday, after the White House released its statement, Minaj offered a full-throated rebuttal on Instagram Live. “Do y’all think I would go on the internet and fucking lie about being invited to the fucking White House?” she asked.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid blasts Minaj over anti-vaccine tweet

MSNBC host Joy Reid blasted rapper Nicki Minaj after the artist tweeted that she has decided not to get vaccinated despite contracting COVID-19 and advocated against inoculation.

“You have a platform, sister, that is 22 million followers,” Reid said Monday during a discussion on her program about vaccine mandates and misinformation. “I have 2 million followers … you have 22 million followers on Twitter. For you to use your platform to encourage our community to not protect themselves and save their lives … my God sister, you could do better than that.”

Reid added Minaj’s massive following stemming from her music career is “a blessing,” telling the hip-hop star that “people listen to you more than they listen to me.”

“For you to use your platform to put people in the position of dying from a disease they don’t have to die from, oh my God,” Reid continued. “As a fan, as a hip-hop fan and as somebody who is your fan, I am so sad that you did that, sister. Oh my God.”

Minaj, in a series of tweets earlier on Monday, revealed she contracted the coronavirus while prepping for the MTV Video Music Awards.

“Do u know what it is not to be able to kiss or hold your tiny baby for over a week? A baby who is only used to his mama?” Minaj said in one tweet.

In another widely shared tweet, Minaj said that her cousin’s account of his friend getting vaccinated had also influenced her decision to not get inoculated.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she said.

The rapper, who attacked several prominent figures in media who had criticized her tweets, responded to Reid’s comments on Monday evening.

“This is what happens when you’re so thirsty to down another black woman (by the request of the white man), that you didn’t bother to read all my tweets. ‘My God SISTER do better’ imagine getting ur dumb ass on tv a min after a tweet to spread a false narrative about a black woman,” Minaj said, making reference in a subsequent tweet to a 2018 incident in which Reid was accused of writing homophobic blog posts.
