Los Angeles Lakers-Memphis Grizzlies courtside incident involved Shannon Sharpe, Tee Morant, Dillon Brooks

Shannon Sharpe and the Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks were involved in an apparent courtside incident at Friday evening’s game in Los Angeles.

Sharpe, the co-host of Fox Sports’ “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” was sitting courtside at the game but was briefly escorted away by security officials after he allegedly yelled at the players and an incident ensued.

According to Memphis Commercial Appeal, the altercation happened after the final possession of the first half. Morant was walking off the court toward the locker room before he paused and turned toward Sharpe.

Teammate Steven Adams intervened as the two neared Sharpe.

Video of the incident appears to show others quickly got involved, including Morant’s father Tee Morant, and a crowd of people formed in the area.

Security officials separated the group and the players left for the locker room before returning for the third quarter.

LEBRON JAMES PUSHES BACK ON CLAIM HIS PATIENCE IS ‘WANING,’ NOT FRUSTRATED WITH THE LAKERS

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported the incident may have initially started with Brooks, a small forward who was covering the Lakers’ LeBron James.

Sharpe joked that Brooks was “too small” to guard him.

“It started with Dillon Brooks. I said he was too small to guard LeBron,” Sharpe said to ESPN

“He said, ‘F—’ me and I said ‘F— you’ back,” he added. “He started to come at me and I said, ‘You don’t want these problems.’ Then Ja came out of nowhere.”

Sharpe continued: “He definitely didn’t want these problems. Then the dad came and he obviously didn’t want no problems. But I wanted anything they had. Don’t let these fools fool you now.”

“They do all that talking and jockeying and I ain’t about all that jockeying,” Sharpe added.

Sharpe, an NFL Hall of Famer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends of all time, stands over 6’2″ and is bigger than most of the athletes on the court.

Other videos of the incident appear to confirm that Brooks yelled at Sharpe, who yelled back and pointed at the ground in front of him as if to gesture for him to come over.

Sharpe and Tee Morant were both allowed to return to their seat for the third quarter.

The Grizzlies were up at halftime at the Crypto.com Arena, 53-49, but ultimately lost to the Lakers 122-121.

A surge by the Lakers in the fourth quarter and a key steal by the Lakers’ Dennis Schroder sealed the victory.

Morant had a team-high 22 points, Adams had 16, and Brooks had 9. Adams also had a game-high 17 rebounds.

On the other side of the court, James had 23 points and the Lakers were led in scoring by Russell Westbrook, who had 29.

Draymond, Ja Morant react to reported Warriors-Grizzlies Christmas Day matchup

It appears Christmas came early for Draymond Green, Ja Morant, and NBA fans engaged in their so-called Twitter beef.

The defending NBA champion Warriors reportedly will host Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center on Christmas Day, according to NBA correspondent Marc Stein.

And Morant clearly can’t wait.

Green and the young Grizzlies star have gone back and forth in a series of Twitter exchanges that seemed to have fueled the fire in an already-steamy enmity between the Warriors and Grizzlies.

And although they’ve denied any “rivalry,” it’s clear that this reported matchup is the one both teams wanted on Christmas Day.

Green also responded to the report, crediting Morant for being vocal about what he wanted.

In June, after the Warriors won their fourth NBA championship in eight seasons, Morant responded to a tweet implying that a Golden State-Memphis matchup in San Francisco is secured for Dec. 25.

But Morant suggested bringing the holiday cheer to Memphis.

However, as we have come to learn, thanks to LeBron James, that’s not how things work.

Green responded to Morant with a friendly reminder.

While fans at home will be bundled up with hot cocoa and cookies enjoying some Christmas Day basketball, be sure to grab some popcorn while you’re at it.

ESPN apologizes for fake Ja Morant quote from Ballsack Sports

ESPN’s “This Just In” suffered low blow after running an entire segment on a fake Ja Morant quote, apologizing for the mistake on air Tuesday.

In the bogus statement, which originated from the parody Twitter account Ballsack Sports, Morant claimed Michael Jordan would be seen as “just another superstar” if he were to play in today’s NBA.

“If you put MJ in today’s game he’s just another superstar,” the fake quote, which was liked over 25,000 times on Twitter, read. “We got me, Steph, Luka, Dame, Trae – and then guys like Bron, KD, Giannis, Kawhi – it’s not just one superstar and a bunch of you know, average dudes, you feel?”

The quote was a play on Taylor Rooks’ real interview with Morant, in which the Memphis Grizzlies point guard claimed he “would’ve cooked” Jordan, later asserting he’s “never going to go and say nobody going to beat me 1-on-1.”

Still, ESPN decided to not only roll with it, but dedicate an entire segment to it. Following Monday’s “This Just In” segment, Rooks and Morant were quick to bash the network for their false reporting and demanded it be corrected.

“He absolutely did not say this in the interview,” Rooks tweeted. “And I can’t believe it was broadcast that he did. There should be a correction issued for that,” she wrote, tagging ESPN.

David Jacoby, Ja Morant
ESPN; Bleacher Report

Morant responded to Rooks’ tweet by writing, “these people crazy,” with a crying laughing emoji.

David Jacoby issued a live apology on “This Just In” the very next day.

“We made a mistake,” Jacoby said. “We attributed a quote to Ja Morant’s appearances on Taylor Rooks’ show on Bleacher Report that he simply did not say. On behalf of the network, the show’s staff, and myself, I’d like to apologize to Ja and Taylor for our error. We will work hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Shockingly, this is not the first time ESPN has fallen victim to Ballsack Sports’ fictitious reporting. Back in April, Stephen A. Smith cited the source on an episode of “First Take,” in which he falsely claimed James Harden and the Nets reached a breaking point after Kyrie Irving called him “washed.”
