Miley Cyrus details Liam Hemsworth marriage in new song ‘Flowers’

Miley Cyrus takes a dig at her failed marriage to Liam Hemsworth in her new single, “Flowers” — and adding insult to injury, she dropped the song hours before her ex-husband’s birthday.

“We were good / We were gold / Kind of dream that can’t be sold,” Cyrus sings. “We were right / ‘Til we weren’t / Built a home and watched it burn.”

The “Wrecking Ball” singer’s lyrics present a double meaning, referring to the multimillion-dollar Malibu home she shared with Hemsworth being destroyed in a 2018 wildfire while also detailing how their relationship crumbled over time.

Cyrus, 30, goes on to sing that she “didn’t want to leave” the “Hunger Games” actor, 33, but then realized she is happier and better off alone.

“I didn’t want to leave you / I didn’t wanna lie / Started to cry but then remembered / I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand / Talk to myself for hours / Say things you don’t understand,” she croons.

Cyrus is seen dancing through the streets of Hollywood looking glam in a gold ensemble and big black sunglasses as she warbles the biting lyrics.

“I can take myself dancing / And I can hold my own hand / Yeah, I can love me better than you can,” she continues to the melody of Bruno Mars’ ballad “When I Was Your Man.”

Cyrus’ lyrics suggest she’s better off without Hemsworth.

Cyrus also sings that she has “no remorse” and “no regret” and forgets “every word” Hemsworth has said as she lies by a pool wearing sexy black lingerie.

She is then shown working out in her lacy bra and underwear, signifying how she has only become stronger since their breakup.

The video ends with the “Hannah Montana” alum dancing around a gorgeous mansion wearing a man’s suit with no shirt underneath, hinting that the new home she built without a man is perfect for her.

The song hit YouTube and streaming services just before Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday on Friday.

Cyrus and Hemsworth were first linked in 2009 after meeting on the set of “The Last Song.” She later revealed that she lost her virginity to him when she was 16.

The couple secretly wed in December 2018, but Cyrus announced they were separating in August 2019 after less than a year of marriage. Days later, Hemsworth filed for divorce.

At the time, Cyrus had already moved on and was seen canoodling with Brody Jenner’s ex Kaitlynn Carter.

Sources told Page Six that Hemsworth learned about their breakup via social media.

Page Six exclusively reported at the time that Hemsworth learned of their separation through social media when Miley’s camp released a statement announcing the news.

But insiders on both sides shared that the relationship had been falling apart for months.

Cyrus spoke about their challenges in March 2022, calling the brief union a “f–king disaster.”

Cyrus has since been romantically linked to Kaitlynn Carter, Cody Simpson and Maxx Morando.

The Grammy nominee has had no problem finding love again, though. She dated Cody Simpson for 10 months until their breakup in August 2020. And in April 2022, she confirmed her romance with Liily drummer Maxx Morando, whom she is still dating.

Meanwhile, Hemsworth started dating Gabriella Brooks shortly before his divorce from Cyrus was finalized in January 2020.

Morrissey says Miley Cyrus wants to be removed from his album

Bad news for Morrissey fans: Morrissey is in the news again (it’s always bad when that happens). This time, rather than saying or doing something awful (oh hey, maybe this is good news), ol’ Moz simply announced on the official Morrissey website that Miley Cyrus has requested to be removed from a track called “I Am Veronica” for the still-unreleased album Bonfire Of Teenagers. Cyrus apparently recorded backing vocals for the song years ago, but the only indication we have for why this is happening now is that the website notes that it “comes at a time when Morrissey has disassociated himself with Capitol Records [Los Angeles], who control the hidden album Bonfire Of Teenagers”—the implication being that the two events are somehow related.

As far as we can tell, Cyrus is with Columbia, so it’s not like she has some special connection to Capitol, so maybe it’s just Morrissey (or a spokesperson?) wallowing in misery a bit. Cyrus has been posting on Instagram a lot with the tagline “New Year, New Miley,” but that’s most likely about her New Year’s Eve thing on NBC and not Morrissey. In our experience, most things are not about Morrissey.

Back to this “hidden album,” though, Bonfire Of Teenagers has had a difficult time getting released even before Cyrus wanted off of it (do you think she Googled “Morrissey” and saw what he’s been up to for the last… few decades?). In 2021, Morrissey said that the album—his “best,” according to him—didn’t have a label at all, but Variety says Capitol eventually came along and had originally planned to put it out in early 2023. Morrissey recently announced that he had “voluntarily withdrawn” from any association with the label, though, so it has been pulled from release.

So what we have here is a situation where people don’t want to work with Morrissey and Morrissey doesn’t want to work with people. Is it good or bad news? A little of both, so we’ll file it under “Could Be Worse News.”

Beyoncé Officially Removes Kelis’ Sample Off Renaissance Album; Monica Lewinsky Calls for Similar Move in 2013 Song

Update as of 8/4/2022 at 10:30a.m.ET: Kelis has responded to the interpolation of her hit song “Milkshake” being taken off of Beyonce’s Renaissance album. Thanks to fans who began comment creeping on Instagram, Kelis is apparently very grateful for the removal but she’s not moved by it.

“You happy Beyonce took that sample off, cry baby?,” one Instagram user asked according to Hollywood Unlocked. Kelis responded: “Yes I am actually, lol nobody cried.”

When another user said: “TBH, I would have just been happy to be on the album,” Kelis wrote: “And that’s why you are you and thank God I am me lol.”

The original story follows below.

Last week, we told you about how “Bossy” singer Kelis called out Beyoncé and former music manager Pharrell Williams for interpolating her 2003 hit song “Milkshake” on Bey’s newly-released Renaissance album without her knowledge. Now, it appears all that hubbub was for nothing as Beyoncé has taken the usage of the song off the album in its entirety.

Per Billboard, the usage of the song appeared on the fifth song on the album, “Energy,” and has now been removed on both Tidal and Apple Music. Subsequently, the move was met with much fanfare online, with many applauding the “Black Parade” singer for removing it outright so as not to further feed into any drama.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Queen Bey has post-audited the album since its release last Friday. As previously reported by The Root, after receiving backlash for her song “Heated —which featured the word “spaz” and was quickly met with disdain from disability advocates who claimed the lyrics were “offensive and ableist,”—the multi-Grammy-winning artist later confirmed in a statement that it would be replaced.

And while those in the community raised a valid point, someone else decided to hop on the bandwagon in an attempt to get Bey to remove or change lyrics from a different song she put out nearly 10 years ago. As EW notes, on Tuesday, Monica Lewisnky (yes, that Monica Lewinksy) sent out a tweet that seemingly suggested that she wanted her name replaced in Beyonce’s 2013 hit song “Partition.”

The particular line in the song, Bey is referring to a man who “Monica Lewisnky’d all on my gown.” However, folks online were quick to call out her hypocrisy, noting that she has “rap song muse” in her Twitter bio while others cited a 2014 Vanity Fair article she wrote in which she thanked Beyoncé for including her on the song but quipped about how it was used incorrectly.

“Miley Cyrus references me in her twerking stage act, Eminem raps about me, and Beyoncé’s latest hit gives me a shout-out. Thanks, Beyoncé,” an excerpt from the article read. “But if we’re verbing, I think you meant ‘Bill Clinton’d all on my gown,’ not ‘Monica Lewinsky’d.’”

She later clarified that in that moment, she was using humor to deal with “painful or humiliating things” as she often does, and that she had not “directly” reached out to Beyoncé’s camp to have the lyrics officially changed.

Monica aside though, if artists are going to start editing their albums due to some people’s disdain of them, whether warranted or not, they have to be very careful of the slippery slope they may end up embarking on if this becomes precedent. Any person, brand, or entity could then cause an uproar all in an attempt to get lyrics changed and I shouldn’t have to tell you how dangerously close that comes to censorship if that kind of thinking and action gets enacted by the wrong party.

What do you think? Should Beyoncé have removed Kelis’ sample? Should she change her 2013 lyrics and edit out Monica’s name? Let’s chat about it in the comments!

Miley has had a busy couple of months. In March, she has played shows in Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.

That same month she also suffered a terrifying incident when her private jet was forced to make an emergency landing after it was struck by lightning on its way to Asunción, Paraguay.

She talked about the scary ordeal at Lollapalooza Brazil while making a heartfelt speech in tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died last Friday.

‘We had to make this emergency landing and the first person that I called was Taylor, because he was already at the [Asunciónico Music Festival in Paraguay],’ said Cyrus, who then teared up while performing Angels Like You in tribute to the drummer.

Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson Tell 2021 to ‘Go to Hell’ in Wacky New Year’s Eve Special

Ever since Kathy Griffin was unceremoniously banished from CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage after posing with a papier-mâché version of Trump’s bloody, decapitated head—remember when the Trump family claimed that Barron thought it was his dad’s real head?—there’s been a gaping void in the NYE TV arena. In Crip-walked Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson, co-hosting the first “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party” on NBC.

“Miley called me and asked, ‘What are you doing on New Year’s? I’m throwing a party, you want to help me host it?’” said Davidson to the crowd. “And I just looked across the table at my mom and was like, ‘Yeah, I’m in.’”

The star-studded staged event began with a bizarro rendition of Will Smith’s “Miami”—because the party took place in Miami, where all the stars (and AOC) seem to be this New Year’s Eve—that saw the SNL star and Artist Formerly Known as Hannah Montana attempt to rap, followed by a passable performance from Saweetie, and Brandi Carlile and Cyrus duetting for Carlile’s hit tune “The Story” and Cyrus’ “The Climb.” (According to Cyrus, everyone in attendance was tested and had to show proof of vaccination in order to gain entry to the outdoor event, plus most of the crowd were wearing masks.)

It’s here we should mention the elephant in the room: the optics of NBC airing all these A-list stars living it up in Miami while so many are cooped up inside, either due to COVID infection or an abundance of caution. While an argument can certainly be made that this all seems rather discordant given the state of things, those of us celebrating New Year’s Eve in our living rooms were in need of some entertainment. Plus, it took place outdoors and required a negative test as well as proof of vax, so the health and safety protocols seem sufficient.

Rapper Jack Harlow, who looks like a ’70s porn star and sounds like Post Malone’s drafts, performed (I hear the TikTok kids love him), then Cyrus and Davidson took part in a drawn-out sketch where they mock-confessed that they were actually “normies” who didn’t do drugs or party, preferring Oprah’s Book Club to The Club (they are both quite charming). Another Cyrus performance—a cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” with the singer donning a blood-red blazer and matching disco jumpsuit—came next, once again showcasing her exceptional range.

In addition to Miley and her little sis Noah singing “Jolene,” the evening’s unequivocal highlight came courtesy of the actor Steve Buscemi, who popped up during a Cyrus/Davidson musical sketch called “Unrealistic Resolutions” that had the two aboard a yacht breaking down all of Davidson’s resolutions that he’s doomed to fail in 2022 (e.g. reading at least three books). Suddenly, he gets a FaceTime call from Buscemi, who tells Davidson it’s “on sight” if he ever returns to New York City since he was never paid for his turn in The King of Staten Island.

One minute before the clock struck midnight, Davidson asked everyone to raise a glass and toast the loss of television icon Betty White, who passed away on New Year’s Even, mere weeks shy of her 10oth birthday. In lieu of a ball drop, the event had a giant light-up champagne bottle spray fireworks as Davidson exclaimed, “Happy New Year! Go to hell 2021!” Shortly thereafter, Cyrus suffered a slight wardrobe malfunction, causing her breast to be visible to those watching at home.

In some ways, a fitting end to a disaster of a year.
