Lizzo talks buying lavish home after sleeping in her car 10 years ago: ‘Milestone for me’

Lizzo talks buying lavish home after sleeping in her car 10 years ago: ‘Milestone for me’

Lizzo started from the bottom and now she’s here buying a luxurious home for herself.

In a preview of her upcoming Christmas Day interview on CBS Sunday Morning, the three-time Grammy winner got emotional talking to host Tracy Smith about her journey that led up to this moment.

The Be Loved crooner shared why this particular “milestone” is so meaningful to her. The singer divulged all she endured before reportedly rolled out $15 million to buy Harry Styles’ posh Beverly Hills home, via Entertainment Weekly.

“Just 10 years ago, you were sleeping in your car,” the host began the interview in the singer’s home.

“Yeah, yeah,” Lizzo said. “And, like, whoo!, staying in, like, people’s rooms and sleeping on their couches. And now, on this past tour, which I was blessed to, you know, stay in really nice places, but I was like, ‘I miss my house. Like, I can’t wait to come back to my own home and to my bed.’ And I was like, ‘This is the first time I’ve ever said this.’ It’s like a milestone for me.”

Lizzo accepted her first-ever Emmy award earlier this year. Moreover, the About Damn Time hitmaker also debuted as an official couple with Myke Wright on the red carpet at a screening for her Emmy-winning reality series, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, via ET

U.S. to reveal scientific milestone on fusion energy

WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Energy on Tuesday will announce that scientists at a national lab have made a breakthrough on fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars that one day could provide a cheap source of electricity, three sources with knowledge of the matter said.

The scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California have achieved a net energy gain for the first time, in a fusion experiment using lasers, one of the people said.

While the results are a milestone in a scientific quest that has been developing since at least the 1930s, the ratio of energy going into the reaction at Livermore to getting energy out of it needs to be about 100 times bigger to create a process producing commercial amounts of electricity, one of the sources said.

The FT first reported the experiment.

Fusion works when nuclei of two atoms are subjected to extreme heat of 100 million degrees Celsius (180 million Fahrenheit) or higher leading them to fuse into a new larger atom, giving off enormous amounts of energy.

But the process consumes vast amounts of energy and the trick has been to make the process self-sustaining and get more energy out than goes in and to do so continuously instead of for brief moments.

If fusion is commercialized, which backers say could happen in a decade or more, it would have additional benefits including the generation of virtually carbon-free electricity which could help in the fight against climate change without the amounts of radioactive nuclear waste produced by today’s fission reactors.

Running an electric power plant off fusion presents tough hurdles however, such as how to contain the heat economically and to keep lasers firing consistently. Other methods of fusion use magnets instead of lasers.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is slated to hold a media briefing on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. EST (1500 GMT) on a “major scientific breakthrough.”

The department has no information ahead of the briefing, a spokesperson said.

Lawrence Livermore focuses mainly on national security issues related to nuclear weapons and the fusion experiment could lead to testing safer testing of the nation’s arsenal of such bombs.

But advances at the labs could also help efforts at companies that hope to develop power plants fired by fusion including Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Focused Energy and General Fusion.

Investors including Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and John Doerr have poured money into companies building fusion. Private industry secured more than $2.8 billion last year, according to the Fusion Industry Association for a total of about $5 billion in recent years.

Albert Pujols 700 home runs: Cardinals legend reaches rare milestone with two-HR night vs. Dodgers

St. Louis Cardinals legend Albert Pujols became the fourth player in Major League Baseball history to reach 700 career home runs on Friday night with a two-homer effort against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pujols joins distinct company in the form of some of the most prolific sluggers the game has ever seen: Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.

Pujols first clubbed career home run 699 in the third inning:

Then, in the fourth, Pujols connected with No. 700.

That was a five-RBI night before the fifth inning.

Pujols entered the season with the Cardinals knowing it was his last before retirement. He’s never strayed from his declaration that he was playing in 2022 and not a single year longer, despite the possibility that he could get so close to 700 and still fall short. It’s actually somewhat a surprise that he’s gotten to this point. It took a second-half surge.

Pujols had just six home runs in the first half. He now has 15 since the All-Star break. In the process, he surpassed Alex Rodriguez — who has 696 career home runs — for fourth on the all-time list. Getting to 700 doesn’t move Pujols on the career leaderboard; it’s just a nice-round number. We celebrate things like 500 home runs, 3,000 hits, 3,000 strikeouts and the like, so being the fourth person to 700 home runs is a pretty significant accomplishment.

Pujols, like Aaron, never had a 50-homer season. He hit at least 40 seven times. Only Aaron, Ruth, A-Rod, Bonds, Harmon and Killebrew did it more often. He topped 30 in 14 of his 22 years, one behind Aaron and A-Rod. In moving to 20-plus this season, that makes 18 of his 22 with at least 20 longballs. He moves ahead of Frank Robinson and Willie Mays, who each had 17 20-homer seasons, and trails only Aaron and Bonds.

It’s not just the home runs, obviously. Pujols is 10th in hits (over 3,000, obviously), fifth in doubles, third in RBI (behind Aaron and Ruth), 12th in runs and second in total bases (Aaron).

Still, the home run is the most-celebrated stat in baseball as it is the single most-impactful outcome that can happen on a baseball play. Pujols has been one of the best in history in maxing out on this front.

Bitcoin BTC/USD 0.3% 4.7% $20,264.02
Ethereum ETH/USD 4.4% 0.7% $1,644.77

Why It Matters: Ethereum intraday gains outstripped that of Bitcoin hours ahead of “The Merge” — which transitions the second-largest cryptocurrency from a proof-of-work framework to a proof-of-state mechanism.

Cryptocurrencies continued to track U.S. stock futures, which were up, at the time of writing. On Wednesday, after a volatile session, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended 0.3% and 0.7% higher, respectively.

Thursday saw the release of the Producer Price Index (PPI) data for August which fell 0.1% month-over-month compared to a 0.4% fall in July.

Investors are waiting for a slew of economic data on Thursday morning such as retail sales, jobless claims, import prices and the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing survey.

“Bitcoin’s best case scenario was for the Fed’s soft landing to happen and now that seems less likely as the risk of recession is growing. A broader slowdown is hitting Wall Street and that should keep Bitcoin grounded and stuck in this crypto winter,” said Edward Moya, a senior market analyst at OANDA, in a note seen by Benzinga.

On the imminent Ethereum merge, Moya said, “Ethereum’s Merge should be a pivotal moment for the cryptoverse and its current weakness is more likely reflecting investor expectations that we will see a classic ‘sell the event’ reaction once the Merge is done.”

“Ethereum will likely continue to chip away at Bitcoin’s lead as the top crypto, but chances of a ‘flippening’ will have to wait a couple more years.”

A Twitter poll conducted by Justin Bennett appears to concur with Moya’s assessment that The Merge is a “sell the event” phenomenon as far as price action goes.

A majority, 49.2%, of 2,330 respondents on the trader’s poll said ETH will dump post the upgrade, while 29.2% said it would Pump. 21.6% said it was a “non-event.”

Michaël van de Poppe  explained on Twitter that the funding rate is “ultra negative” on Ethereum because people have spot ETH for an anticipated airdrop.”People hedge with shorts on $ETH to cover their positions. Risk-free trade.”

The cryptocurrency trader said in a separate tweet that the funding rate on ETH is negative 0.2% as “everyone is shorting the Merge.”

Negative funding rates under 0 mean that short sentiment is dominant while rates over 0 indicate longs are dominant.

Willy Woo tweeted Wednesday, “Historically, bottoms coincide with short-term holders having a lower cost basis than long-term holders.”

“We are close, but not there yet. Some more time to burn,” said the popular Bitcoin analyst.
