Flying high: 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with 37 miles on it just sold for $220,000

A like-new 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that that has been driven just 37 miles was sold at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction for $220,000.
The car had been stored in a Michigan farm building and was covered in dust when it was recently purchased by a car restoration company.
Restore A Muscle Car marketing manager Tom Hegland told Fox News Digital that it was one of four identical Trans Ams that were purchased by a family as investments, and this one could be the lowest-mileage example from the model year left.

The car had been stored in a farm building for decades.

It is a well-equipped hardtop with a 6.6-liter V8 engine, automatic transmission, power everything and the iconic Screaming Chicken decal on the hood.
The 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is powered by a 6.6-liter V8.

The black coupe hardly needed any work to get running, just new fluids, a fuel system flush and a battery.
Hegland did not say how much his shop paid for it, but the car cost just $8,300.45 when it was new, the original paperwork says.

While a similar vehicle in concours condition should be worth around $70,000, according to Hagerty, that valuation does not take into account one that has hardly been driven.
The car had just 37 miles on the odometer when it crossed the block at the auction.

The folks bidding on it at the auction did, however, and it ended up selling for $220,000.
It only needed new fluids and a battery to get running.

That is nearly double the $118,250 that was paid at a Mecum Auctions event last January for a blue 1979 Firebird Trans Am with 38 miles on the odometer, marking a significant appreciation for the model over the past year.

Darius Miles: University of Alabama basketball player removed from the team after being charged with murder

University of Alabama basketball player Darius Miles has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a shooting near the campus Sunday which left a 23-year-old woman dead, Tuscaloosa law enforcement announced.
“We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles, and he is no longer a member of the Alabama men’s basketball team,” the University of Alabama athletics department said in a statement Sunday.
Michael Lynn Davis, 20, has also been charged in the shooting, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said in a release. Both suspects are charged with capital murder and are being held without bond, it said.
Investigators said Miles is the only person involved who is connected to the University of Alabama.
CNN has been unable to determine if the suspects have attorneys.
Police responded to the shooting around 1:45 a.m. local time Sunday and found that Jamea Jonae Harris had been shot and killed while sitting in a car less than half a mile from the university’s campus, according to a release from the violent crimes unit.
The driver of the car told police that someone had shot into his vehicle and said he returned fire in self defense, possibly striking one of the suspects, investigators said.
“After processing the scenes, speaking with multiple witnesses, and viewing video surveillance, two suspects were developed,” the release said.
One of the suspects had been hit by the returning gunfire and had a non-life-threatening wound, investigators said,
“It appears that the only motive to this was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on The Strip,” said unit captain Jack Kennedy. The Strip is a hub of restaurants and businesses near the university campus.
The university said it is cooperating with the investigation, along with the athletics department.
Miles, 21, is a junior at the university and is from Washington, DC, according to an archived version of the men’s basketball team roster. Before he was removed from the team, Miles was playing his third season as a forward for the Alabama Crimson Tide, the archived roster shows.
8 Mile’s Mekhi Phifer Says Sequel to Eminem Movie Won’t Happen
If you are hoping for a sequel to Eminem’s beloved 2002 film 8 Mile, don’t hold your breath. Actor Mekhi Phifer, who co-starred in the movie with Em, said a sequel won’t happen.
On Monday (Jan. 2), TMZ posted a video of a street interview with Hollywood star Mekhi Phifer. The camerawoman mentioned to the actor that 8 Mile recently celebrated its 20th anniversary back in November and posed this question to him: People are wondering, why hasn’t there been a second one?
In response, Mekhi said there’s no chance of a sequel happening, and he gave a good reason.
“Sometimes it’s best to just leave it at one,” he stated. “Sometimes it’s just best to leave it alone. Once you make a classic, no reason to fool around with it.”
The 48-year-old thespian also confirmed that there’s never been a conversation about making one, either—not with him or Eminem.
“Nope. Probably not. Never,” he said. “I think, you know, leave the classics alone and it’ll be all good. Let’s just live with the 8 Mile.”
The camerawoman then offered an idea for the sequel to be a story about what happens to Eminem’s character B-Rabbit after he becomes successful in the rap game two decades later. While Phifer thought the new story arc would be interesting, he said he won’t star in the movie and doubts Eminem would be interested in appearing in a sequel.
“The story that we told is the story,” he said. “You know, I mean, it could be interesting, but I wouldn’t be in it, and I’m sure Eminem wouldn’t be in it either.”
In the end, Mehki Phifer feels that people should simply enjoy 8 Mile as a standalone film, with no sequel necessary.
8 Mile is arguably Eminem’s biggest movie of his music and film career. In the flick, Em plays a Detroit rapper named Jimmy Smith (aka B-Rabbit) who fights his way to the top of the battle rap circuit. Mekhi plays Future, Jimmy’s best friend and the rap battle host. The film earned Em his first Academy Award win for Best Original Song for “Lose Yourself” at the 2003 Oscars ceremony.
The Diamond-certified song also won him two trophies for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance at the 2004 Grammy Awards.
