Hawkeye’s Deleted Post-Credits Scene Revealed

Whenever there’s a Marvel movie, you stick around until after the credits to see what they’re teeing up next…but a planned post-credits scene for the first season of Hawkeye was scrapped, with a visual effects artist revealing what might have been on Twitter last night. In the season finale of Hawkeye, Clint (Jeremy Renner) and Kate (Hailee Steinfeld) fired off a Pym arrow, which shrunk the van being driven around by the Tracksuit Mafia bros. It was a fun way of getting rid of some fun, kind of goofy villains, and it’s likely that the post-credits scene was just a little too dark when you think about it.

That’s because the owl that delighted fans throughout Hawkeye may, possibly, have eaten them? Well, let’s explain.

According to Elaina Scott (on Twitter), “The post credits [of] the finale of Hawkeye was meant to have the owl taking the [bros] to its nest, kinda sad they cut it. Would have been hilarious!!”

Scott, who works for Digital Domain now, was the former animation lead on some of The CW’s Arrowverse shows.

The idea that the owl may be planning on eating the Tracksuit Bros might be some well-earned karmic justice, but you can also see why it’s maybe not the ideal implication for a Disney+ show. Besides, you might want to use those idiots if there’s a season 2!

Fans weren’t totally sure what to make of the show’s post-credits tag as aired, which was a musical performance from Rogers: The Musical, an in-universe musical about the life of Captain America. The performance — of the song “Save the City” — was framed as a holiday gift from Marvel to fans, so that might imply that fans not impressed were a bit grinchy. But it wasn’t long before it came out that “Save the City” wasn’t the original plan.

Set in post-blip New York City where Clint Barton aka Hawkeye has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. But when a threat from his past shows up, Hawkeye reluctantly teams up with 22-year-old skilled archer Kate Bishop to unravel a criminal conspiracy.

You can watch the complete first season of Hawkeye on Disney+.

Marvel Almost Introduced Guardians of the Galaxy Heroes in Four Solo One-Shot Short Films

Before the Guardians of the Galaxy became household names in their own Marvel Studios franchise, the characters were nearly introduced to movie-goers in a series of short films. In an excerpt from The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recalls a time when the studio was ready to make four short films to get fans caught up on the respective characters — one with Rocket Raccoon and Groot, and one each for Gamora, Drax, and Star-Lord. After all, the outfit had just given each of the four primary Avengers their own solo film.

“We toyed with the idea of doing short films on Drax, on Rocket and Groot, and on Gamora, leading up to Guardians,” Feige told the writers behind the tell-all book. The producer then recalled wanting to do a fourth short film about a kid that was fascinated by fantasy stories.

“Then you’d star Guardians. And half-way through, we would reveal that big space hero is the kid from the short. We thought that would be clever, but it was too much,” he added.

In the same section of the book, it was revealed the Marvel Creative Committee — a group of creatives with Marvel Entertainment — also didn’t take kindly to much of James Gunn’s work on the franchise, including a big reveal in Vol. 2.

“The thinking was, when you tell your fan base that Kurt Russell and Chris Pratt are going to be playing father and son roles—two beloved actors from different generations who have hit action-comidies on their resumes—you’re signaling that they’re in for a great time,” the book says.

It quickly adds, “Yet Russell was as sure of the twist as Marvel Studios, [James] Gunn, and Pratt were.”

The Marvel Creative Committee found itself disbanded by 2017.

The first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies are now streaming on Disney+ while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is due to hit theaters May 5, 2023. I Am Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special have yet to receive release dates.

Let There Be Carnage Credits Scene Sets Up Major Marvel Crossover

Does Venom 2 have a credits scene? Spoiler warning for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, exclusively in theaters Thursday. Worlds collide when Spider-Man villains Venom (Tom Hardy) and Carnage (Woody Harrelson) clash in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the next chapter in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Full spoilers ahead. A post-credits scene sets up another showdown between archenemies when the expanding “Venom-verse” sinks its teeth into the Multiverse, revealing a crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe home to an unmasked Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it’s going to explode your brain.

What Happens in the Venom 2 Credits Scene With Spoilers

After Eddie Brock (Hardy) and Venom bond again to battle escaped serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson) and an alien symbiote offspring, ending their reign of maximum carnage, the lethal protectors retreat to a run-down hotel room on a desert island. Watching a telenovela in bed, Venom reveals he’s been hiding a secret: “We all have a past, Eddie.”

“80 billion light-years of hive knowledge across universes would explode your tiny little brain,” the gnarled voice of Venom says, offering his human host a taste of “just the smallest fraction of the things we symbiotes have experienced.”

The room rumbles. “What’s happening?” Venom asks as their mind-merge becomes a bright, booming light of yellow. Suddenly, and inexplicably, the room is still. Gone is the telenovela on the glitched television, replaced by a breaking news report from TheDailyBugle.net pundit J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons).

A shaken Eddie doesn’t know where they are. The room has transformed. “What did you do?”

“It wasn’t me,” says Venom as Eddie turns his attention to the “shocking revelation” unfolding live. On the television, a Daily Bugle exclusive exposes high-school student Peter Parker as the costumed “spider menace” in a scene ending Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home

Venom overtakes Brock’s body at the mention of Parker’s name. Spider-Man stands unmasked, his identity outed to the world for the alleged murder of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). “That guy,” Venom snarls, his long tongue licking the broadcast of the accused Spider-Man.

Out steps a vacationing man in swim trunks, bewildered by a disoriented and trespassing Eddie Brock. “Dude, what are you doing in my room?” Eddie doesn’t know how he got there.

Venom will return.

Venom 2 Post-Credits Scene Explained

Audiences are left to question how Eddie and Venom teleport into the MCU. The yellow boom resembles the putting-the-genie-back-in-the-bottle magic of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) glimpsed in the trailer for No Way Home, where the sorcerer warns Parker about attempts to reconceal his secret identity: “Be careful what you wish for.”

The Venom 2 credits scene appears to happen concurrently with Jameson’s breaking news reveal from the mid-credits scene of Far From Home, suggesting neither Venom nor Doctor Strange is responsible for transporting Eddie into another universe. This could be explained by Sylvie’s (Sophia Di Martino) actions in the Marvel Studios series Loki, where she unwittingly unleashes a multiverse of madness when she strikes down He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) in the Citadel at the End of Time.

Another possibility is Knull, the creator and God of the Symbiotes, who rules the symbiote hive-mind known as “The Hive.” In the comic books, one of Knull’s many powers is temporal manipulation, giving him the ability to interact with the multiversal timeline.

Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man Universe

Venom 2 director Andy Serkis hinted at a crossover between the two universes when he said recently that Venom and Spider-Man’s worlds would collide “big time.” Earlier this year, Sony Pictures President Sanford Panitch said there “actually is a plan” to better blend Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, telling Variety, “I think now maybe it’s getting a little more clear for people where we’re headed and I think when No Way Home comes out, even more will be revealed.”

Starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now playing in theaters.

No Way Home Set Leak

The more determined Andrew Garfield is to deny that he is involved with Spider-Man: No Way Home, the more determined people seem to be to keep asking him. All of that may have reached a crescendo last night, when the actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and had to improvise on the fly when confronted about a high-resolution video which appears to depict the actor wearing a Spider-Man costume, while talking to someone else in gloves from a Spider-Man costume, suggesting that it could be a multiversal moment from Spider-Man: No Way Home

The short video seems to match up perfectly with a much less high resolution photo that purports to feature Garfield standing a few feet from Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. The photo takes place on a large scaffolding, while in the video, you can see elements of a similar background.

For his part, Garfield acted oblivious to the existence of the photo and footage when asked about it on Fallon. When Fallon jokingly “informed” Garfield that the actor would be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield acted absolutely incredulous, barking out a “what?!” and continuing to deny that he had ever seen the photo or video.

You can see the clip below.

Garfield told Fallon that “if you can show me the photo, I can tell you if it’s me, or if it’s a real thing,” but Fallon said that the image had been removed from the internet, and Garfield hilariously countered, “Well, how convenient, detective Fallon!”

The photo in question has not actually been fully scrubbed from the internet, but a major network TV show like Fallon’s (or indeed any large organization with corporate backing, including this site) sharing it directly could potentially be setting themselves up to be sued by Disney and/or Sony, so the odds of getting it printed out on a card and shown to Garfield on the Tonight show are pretty small.

Of course, at this point, that might very well be the way they finally decide to announce his involvement if, indeed, this evidence is real, and Garfield really does appear in the movie.

Following the events of Avengers: EndgameLoki, and What If…?, Marvel’s multiverse seems to be more wide open than ever before, and that has some fans expecting to see Garfield’s Spider-Man, as well as Tobey Maguire’s, share the screen with Holland. Following the commercial success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, there’s hardly a more commonsense character for Marvel to begin exploring its infinite Earths with. But while Maguire has declined to address the rumors at all, Garfield has been more vocal in his denials.

“I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I’m a fan as well. You can’t help but imagine scenes and moments of ‘Oh, my God, how fucking cool would it be if they did that?'” Garfield recently told Variety. “But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in. But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m fucked. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting.”

Starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, and Benedict Cumberbatch, Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to open in theaters on December 17.

Moon Knight Set Video Reveals First Look at Disney+ Action Scene

Principal photography for Moon Knight is underway in Budapest, and one of the first clips from the show’s set has surfaced online. Saturday morning, an Instagrammer shared a clip of a film crew following a cloaked character as they sprint along the street before leaping up into the air, aided by wire work.

It’s hard to make out exactly who the character is, though they do appear to be wearing a hood and donning wrapped-like clothing. That’s leading some to believe this may be Marc Spector himself in action. The clip itself is adorned with the hashtag #themarvels, initially leading to some confusion amongst fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While The Marvels is actively filming, that’s filming in and around London. Moon Knight is currently shooting in Budapest, some 1,092 miles away. The photographer who released the clip, @tibor.proart, is based in Budapest. You can see a capture of the clip below.

As of now, we only know a handful of characters that are appearing. Oscar Isaac is playing the eponymous hero, who Gaspard Ulliel is reportedly playing Midnight Man. May Calamawy and Loic Mabanza have been added in undisclosed roles with A-list superstar Ethan Hawke is expected to play the show’s primary antagonist.

“Well, it’s where I’m at as an actor,” Hawke recently told The Ringer’s The Watch podcast. “A lot of it, to be honest, I love the fact that Moon Knight is a lesser-known story and allows more creative freedom. The director is Mohammed Diab and he’s a brilliant guy.”

“A lot of it is Oscar, to me, to be honest with you,” the actor added. “I find him to be a very exciting player in my field. I like what he’s doing with his life. He reminds me of the actors, when I first arrived at New York, that I looked up to. Oscar’s younger than me, and I like the way he carries himself, and I like the way he thinks. And in general, good things happen when you’re in the room with people that you like the way they think, right?”

Moon Knight has yet to set a release date. If you haven’t signed up for Disney+ yet, you can try it out here.

Why Loki Director Kate Herron Isn’t Returning for Season 2 of the Marvel Series

First-time Marvel director Kate Herron is out of time on Loki. Episode 6 of the Marvel Studios series ended with the post-credits reveal of a Season 2 — making Loki the first of Marvel’s Disney+ series to get an official second season — but Herron had her own announcement to make Friday: she’s not returning to the director’s chair next season. After journeying into mystery with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in six episodes of the universe-breaking series setting up forthcoming Phase 4 projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Herron explains why she’s moving on from the Marvel Cinematic Universe — not for all time always, but for now.

“I would say that when I joined Loki, it was always going to be those six episodes. We were treating it like a movie, and we were running it like a movie. We weren’t doing it in the showrunner system,” the Five by Five and Sex Education director told THR. “So it was a lot to direct these six episodes, and I gave it all of my energy and everything I had in my soul and in my heart. I threw everything I loved about Marvel at it. So I always intended just to do these six.”

It wasn’t until later in production that Disney-owned Marvel decided to continue the time-traveling misadventures of Loki, his many variants, Sylvie, Time Variance Authority agent Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), Judge Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and Miss Minutes (voice of Tara Strong).

“It was such a massive compliment and a delight that as we got much later into production, Marvel and Disney were like, ‘Ah, man. This is excellent, and we want to keep going.’ So I just feel like my part is done, but I’m really excited to see where it’s going to go next,” Herron said. “So I gave it all that I have, and it came from a place of love. I really enjoyed working on it, and I hope to work with Marvel again in the future. They changed my life, and I just love Marvel as I’m sure people can tell from the amount of Easter eggs and references I did throughout it.”

“But I just feel like I’ve done my part with Loki, at least for now, and I’m excited to see where it goes next as a fan,” Herron added.

Loki head writer Michael Waldron might also be exiting that position ahead of Season 2. Waldron previously inked an overall deal with Disney, penning such projects as the Sam Raimi-directed Doctor Strange 2 and producer Kevin Feige’s untitled Star Wars film.

Marvel has not announced a release date for Loki Season 2. All six episodes of Loki Season 1 are now streaming on Disney+.

Post-Credits Scene Reveals Disney+ Future

Loki (Sophia Di Martino) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
Photo: Disney

This week’s Loki season finale on Disney+ was full of twists and turns, and a very conspicuous apple. But the biggest surprise of all may have been saved for the very end.

Loki’s story isn’t over yet. Marvel revealed in the mid-credits scene of “For All Time. Always.” that the Disney+ series would be coming back for season two, making it the first Marvel Cinematic Universe show to be officially approved for more than one season. The news explains why the finale gave us far more questions than answers, ending on a cliffhanger that perhaps not even Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could solve. This reveal came after Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors made his MCU debut as Kang (though not quite the Conquerer version we’ll see in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania).

The MCU entered the realm of Disney+ television shows with two limited series, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier—both of which have been nominated for several awards at this year’s Emmy Awards. It was believed that the six-episode season of Loki would follow suit, with the story of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie setting up the final puzzle pieces for Phase 4 of the MCU. This phase is set to go places, with projects like the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, the cameo-filled Spider-Man 3: Far From Home, Disney+’s What If…?, and Quantumania taking us everywhere and everywhen in the multiverse. While that is still true (more on that in our recap later), that doesn’t mean the Time Variance Authority—or Mobius (Owen Wilson) and his lost-in-time jet ski—are going anywhere anytime soon.

Loki season two will join an ever-growing number of Disney+ shows currently in development. They include Ironheart, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel, which will introduce Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) to the MCU. That’s only the tip of the iceberg for the future of the MCU—lest we forget, the Fantasic Four is coming. Hopefully, third time’s the charm on that one.

The first season of Loki ended on Wednesday. No planned production or release date for season two has been announced yet. We’ll bring you more as we know it.

Deadpool Joins MCU in Free Guy Trailer Breakdown With Thor’s Korg

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has just made his first official appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — in the most unexpected place possible. Ryan Reynolds suits up as Deadpool to promote his new movie Free Guy alongside his co-star (and Thor: Love and Thunder director) Taika Waititi, who reprises his own MCU role as Korg from Thor: Ragnarok. While this is, ostensibly, a meta-layered promotional ad for Reynolds and Waititi’s new film, it’s also a milestone in Marvel history, as Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool officially makes the transition from 20th Century Fox’s old X-Men movie franchise into Marvel Studios’ Avengers franchise.

The video was released by Ryan Reynolds himself, with the caption, “Two members of the MCYouTube react to the upcoming film #FreeGuy featuring Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi. Free Guy. In theaters and definitely NOT streaming on August 13th.”

Just last month Reynolds teased fans with a photo hinting he was suiting up as Deadpool again — now we know why.

You can watch Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool (with Taika Waititi’s Korg) in the Free Guy trailer reaction video below.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is the only actor/character/franchise confirmed to have been imported from Fox’s X-Men franchise into the Marvel Studios universe. Early this year, Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works at Marvel Studios, with Ryan Reynolds writing and starring in the film.

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now,” Feige told Collider.

So far, Reynolds is the only actor in the MCU to be getting an R-rated movie — a distinction that not even the PG-13 Blade reboot will get to share in. According to Feige though, Deadpool 3 is still a ways off from happening.

“It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor,” Feige pointed out. “We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

With Deadpool now officially in the MCU, fans are already hoping that Reynolds real-life buddy Hugh Jackman will show up in the MCU as Wolverine. A recent photo of Jackman and Feige together has only fueled those hopes.

Deadpool 3 is currently in development at Marvel Studios. Free Guy hits theaters on August 13th.

This Marvel Comics Storyline Could Spoil WandaVision — and MCU Phase 4

A classic Marvel Comics storyline starring Scarlet Witch and the Avengers could be the key to figuring out WandaVision — and Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In WandaVision, the first original series from Marvel Studios, unusual couple Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) relocate to the suburbs of Westview after the events of Avengers: Endgame. As Wanda channels decades of sitcoms in a reality seemingly of her own making, magically creating a happily ever after with her dead spouse and newborn twin sons Tommy and Billy, they begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems in TV Land.

After the Avengers traveled through time and parallel dimensions in Endgame to reverse the Thanos (Josh Brolin) snap that erased half of all life in the universe, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed Multiverse connections would unfold before and after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Feige also revealed WandaVision forms a loose trilogy with Spider-Man 3 and the Doctor Strange sequel, where sorcerer Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) mentors the reality-bending Wanda.

Multiverse of Madness also directly connects to the coming Disney+ series Loki, which could introduce the time-defying Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) before he appears on the big screen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

If Wanda’s nosy neighbor Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) is secretly Agatha Harkness, an ages-old witch and mentor to Scarlet Witch in the Marvel comics, WandaVision has three of the key characters needed for the story setting up Avengers Disassembled and House of M. When Episode 4 introduces the possibility that Wanda might be the secret villain of WandaVision, it recalls the Darker than Scarlet storyline that ran through Avengers West Coast in the late 1980s:

Normal in Every Way

Agatha expresses concerns about Thomas and William, the offspring of a mutant and a synthezoid, shocking Wanda with the revelation that her children disappear when she’s not thinking about them (Avengers West Coast #51). Wanda rejects Agatha’s accusation that the twins aren’t normal children, refusing to believe Thomas and William “simply cease to exist” when Wanda is preoccupied.

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

When Master Pandemonium attacks the Avengers with a horde of demons and kidnaps the twins, the villain reveals the super-demon Mephisto scattered his soul after splitting it into five pieces. When Wonder Man mentions Bewitched — one of the classic sitcoms influencing WandaVision — an enraged Wanda loses control and lashes out at fellow Avenger the Wasp.

Watching from afar is Immortus, one of the identities of Kang the Conquerer.

prevnext

One Small Step Beyond Illusion

Agatha reveals Wanda’s children were born out of her desire for a normal home, making them manifestations of Wanda’s will through a combination of magic and her mutant powers. Because Vision is a sophisticated machine, Agatha explains, Wanda used her probability-altering powers to make it possible for the couple to start a family — but even Wanda’s immense powers can’t create life (Avengers West Coast #52).

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

The Avengers confront Master Pandemonium, who kidnapped Wanda and Vision’s children to replace the missing pieces of his soul — only to discover that Thomas and William are pieces of Mephisto’s soul once thought destroyed by Franklin Richards (Fantastic Four #277). When the demon reabsorbs his missing pieces, restoring his essence at the cost of Wanda losing her children, Agatha defeats Mephisto by erasing the twins from Wanda’s memory.

prevnext

As If They Never Were

Agatha explains: “Wanda longed all her life for the kind of normal existence forever denied her by her mutant powers. She so greatly desired a family — in her mind the perfect symbol of a peaceful, happy life — that she suffered what in a human woman would have been a hysterical or imaginary pregnancy. In such cases there is usually no child to be born… but Wanda’s power to change probabilities created Thomas and William. Twins, you see, to double the fulfillment of her dream. Since her power cannot create true life, she reached out unconsciously to snare anything which would function as souls for the newborns. What she caught, still much weakened by their recent separation, was two of the missing pieces of Mephisto!”

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

To spare Wanda the pain of losing her children, Agatha closes that corner of her mind — making it so that the twins “never were” for Wanda (Avengers West Coast #52).

prevnext

Darker Than Scarlet

Left almost comatose after weeks of turmoil (Avengers West Coast #53), Agatha watches over an unresponsive Wanda when Magneto — Wanda’s mutant supervillain father, a relation that would be retconned decades later — takes her away from Earth (Avengers #313). Wanda’s nervous breakdown turns villainous when she returns to California and attacks the Avengers (Avengers West Coast #55).

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

Attempting to reason with her pupil, Agatha tells Wanda that her mind is unhinged because of recent tragedies. Relishing her newfound power, Wanda tells the captured Avengers that her ability to alter probabilities means she can reshape the universe at will (Avengers West Coast #56). With just a thought, Wanda can transform her slightest whims into reality.

From Pawn to Queen

After leaving with Magneto and her twin brother Pietro (Avengers West Coast #57), Wanda allies with Magneto despite Quicksilver’s attempt to save her. Immortus continues his plot to rule centuries as the master of time, placing Wanda under a trance during a battle with the Avengers.

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

Just as Quicksilver begins to suspect Magneto was manipulated by someone more powerful than himself, the time traveler reveals himself and takes Wanda as his queen (Avengers West Coast #60).

Revelations

Immortus transports the Avengers to Limbo, where he pits Earth’s mightiest heroes against “zombified” enemies making up the Legion of the Unliving to keep them from interfering with business that is “vital to the timeliness of many realities — including, most especially, this one” (Avengers West Coast #61).

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

Agatha half-sensed Immortus was behind Wanda’s misfortunes — her increased powers, her growing alienation from humanity, and her nonexistent children — and is aware that Earth’s timelines are in danger of unraveling.

Immortus reveals that an omnipotent trio called The Time Keepers — who could enter the MCU in Loki — appointed him custodian of the time stream for the period he lived as Kang: from 3000 B.C. to 4000 A.D. His task: to monitor all time travel spanning seven millennia while untangling realities brought about by various Kangs in exchange for total mastery over seventy centuries.

prevnext

The Final Fate of the Scarlet Witch

Finally, Immortus reveals he’s been manipulating Wanda’s life for years because the Scarlet Witch is a Nexus being, one that belongs equally to all possible timelines and all realities and divergences. Through Wanda’s power, all futures can be safeguarded and controlled by Immortus, the self-declared master of time.

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

Immortus explains that his orchestration of Wanda’s tragedies, and the resulting trauma, would make her susceptible to becoming his powerful and indispensable puppet (Avengers West Coast #61 and #62).

prevnext

Dooming the Multiverse

Agatha’s astral form attempts to reach the entranced Wanda, who is turned into a living power source for Immortus. Urging her to rid herself of the excess power bred in her by Immortus, Agatha desperately tells Wanda she will be useless to him without the ability to alter the probabilities of cosmic timelines. When Wanda’s love for her teammates stirs her from her trance, Immortus curses Agatha for creating new divergences that he says will “wreak irreversible havoc across uncounted realities already in existence” — potentially dooming the entire Multiverse.

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

As Wanda attempts to draw that power back into herself, thereby preventing a cosmic calamity, the Time Keepers interfere and prevent her from reabsorbing those powers (Avengers West Coast #62).

prevnext

Future Jeopardy

The Time Keepers tell Immortus his only duty was the eventual transmutation of a particular Nexus being — the Scarlet Witch — into a source of power. They explain: Immortus would then use that power over probabilities to safeguard key events that must occur in various timelines to assure a certain future, including one in which the Time Keepers have a vested interest (Avengers West Coast #62).

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

The trio reveals Immortus could only utilize a pre-existent Nexus being, not create one. When Wanda managed to reject her hex power, they were forced to intervene. “If that power were allowed to cause chaos among the timelines,” they warn, “all futures would be in jeopardy — including that in which we ourselves came into being!”

prevnext

The Greater Good

When Immortus reveals that the Time Keepers never told him precisely what future he was protecting, they tell the Avengers their unselfish actions were for “the greater good of the cosmos.”

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

“Should we cease to exist because of befouled timelines, the loss to the Multiverse would be profound,” say the Time Keepers, who send the mutant energy expelled by Scarlet Witch into Immortus. They doom him to an unmoving existence in limbo, transformed into the very same all-powerful energy receptacle he intended Wanda to be, and Wanda returns to the Avengers (Avengers West Coast #62).
