Howie Mandel defends Meghan Markle’s ‘Deal or No Deal’ comments

Howie Mandel doesn’t understand why Meghan Markle got so much backlash for saying she was reduced to a “bimbo” while on “Deal or No Deal.”

The former game show host defended the Duchess of Sussex, saying she wasn’t bashing the show, but rather expressing how it made her feel.

“I’ve never really heard anybody complain and I don’t think Meghan is complaining,” the 66-year-old told Us Weekly in an article published on Thursday. “I think Meghan just said she wanted to do more. It wasn’t fulfilling for her.”

“So I don’t know why there is a big hoopla, except I have to say that me standing there with 26 women staring at me made me feel like a bimbo,” he added.

The TV personality — who previously revealed he didn’t remember Markle on the game show — went on to say he could understand where the 41-year-old was coming from after having similar feelings during his four years on the show.

“I get it because — I’ve never said this before — but they had this pyramid of 26 beautiful, intelligent women standing there just staring at me like I was a piece of meat,” he continued. “I was in the center, just dressed up in a suit and I felt like I am more than this. And they would just look at me and I had to do nothing.”

Although Mandel says he felt like “nothing” while on the iconic game show, he assured it “was a great workplace environment.”

“There will undoubtedly be interviews … and endless speculation about…

Markle got into hot water earlier this month after saying on her podcast, “Archetypes,” that she quit the now-defunct game show because she was “so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.”

“I didn’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance, and that’s how it felt for me at the time being reduced to this specific archetype: the word ‘bimbo,’” she said.

Following her controversial comments, social media users, former employees from the show and even Whoopi Goldberg spoke out against her claims.

The “View” co-host rejected Markle’s claims saying taking jobs seemingly beneath you is just part of show business.

When you’re a performer, you take the gig,” she said on the talk show. “You take the gig. Sometimes, you’re in a Bozo suit, sometimes you got a big nose, and this is just the way it is.”

Dave Chappelle attack: Howie Mandel and other comics express security concerns

The man who tackled Chappelle had a knife blade and was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“Watching what happened to Dave last night confirmed my fear,” Mandel said. “I was watching it kind of live on Twitter and I turned to my wife and I said, ‘I don’t want to. I don’t want to goon stage. I’m just really afraid.'”

Other comedians who were present during the incident, including Chris Rock, rushed to Chappelle’s side after it happened.

Rock joked about whether the suspect was Will Smith, referring to Smith’s incident at the Oscars in which he walked on stage and slapped Rock after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Comedian and Washington Times columnist Tim Young tweeted, “We can all thank Will Smith for setting the example that led to Dave Chappelle getting assaulted on stage last night.”
“Here we go again. As I mentioned before, Will Smith did it, so now people think that if a big celebrity did it they can now do it,” comedian Jordan Garnett told WPTV.

Mandel made the connection as well.

“This is one step that kind of opens a door and triggers somebody if they don’t like what you’re saying or they’re offended by what you’re saying… It’s kind of okay because it’s been done, to be violent, and that’s what my fear was,” he told “Extra” about Smith hitting Rock.

Mandel said he plans on touring less as a result.

“My biggest fear 40 years ago was not getting a laugh, and then cancel culture came along and then it was like, ‘Oh, my God if somebody doesn’t like your joke or you overstepped your line, you could lose your career,’ and then after the Academy Awards… I said… ‘Violence triggers violence,'” Mandel explained.

As the investigation into the Chappelle attack continues, Netflix meantime, also expressed concern for safety around comedy shows.

“We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence,” a Netflix spokesperson told CNN in a statement.

Donald Trump Crows Over Endorsement of ‘J.D. Mandel,’ Confusing Ohio Senate Candidates J.D. Vance, Josh Mandel

No one appears to be more surprised by Donald Trump’s endorsement of J.D. Vance for the Ohio Senate than the former president himself, who on Sunday appeared not to know the former Never-Trumper’s name. Speaking at a “Save America” rally in Nebraska in support of Charles Herbster, a Republican gubernatorial candidate accused of sexually assaulting eight women, Trump crowed to a crowd: “You know, we’ve endorsed Dr. Oz. We’ve endorsed—J.P., right? J.D. Mandel, and he’s doing great. They’re all doing good.” Trump appeared to be confusing the names of Ohio Republican primary candidates Josh Mandel, whom he hasn’t endorsed, and J.D. Vance, whom he (reluctantly) has. Mandel, a former Ohio State treasurer running on a pro-Trump platform, was long presumed the front-runner in a crowded primary field until the former president issued his endorsement of Vance last month. “In the Great State of Ohio, the candidate most qualified and ready to win in November is J.D. Vance,” Trump’s April 15 statement said. “We cannot play games. It is all about winning!” With the primary coming up on May 3, Trump may want to brush up with a rousing round of “Guess Who: Ohio Senate Edition.”

Ohio GOP Senate debate candidates Mike Gibbons, Josh Mandel nearly get into physical altercation

The GOP’s Friday night U.S. Senate candidate forum in Ohio featured a face-off between candidates Mike Gibbons and Josh Mandel that nearly brought them to blows.

The argument between the two erupted after Mandel claimed Gibbons had “made millions” from business dealings with Chinese companies.

“You may not understand this,” Gibbons told Mandel, who then stood up from his seat and confronted Gibbons at the event hosted by FreedomWorks.

“I do,” Mandel replied.

“You have never … you have never been in the private sector in your entire life,” Gibbons told Mandel.

“Two tours in Iraq. Don’t tell me I haven’t worked,” Mandel responded, raising his voice to Gibbons.

A moderator approached the two men and attempted to defuse the situation. As Mandel was taking his seat, Gibbons said, “You don’t know squat,” prompting Mandel to rise from his seat again. Gibbons then told Mandel to “back off.”

“You back off,” Mandel responded, telling Gibbons he’s “dealing with the wrong guy.”

“Watch what happens,” Mandel said. “You watch what happens.”

“Josh Mandel is unhinged, unfit and flailing because he’s losing,” Samantha Cotten, a spokesperson for Gibbons’ campaign, said in a statement following the altercation. “He is only a professional at one thing: running for office. He is hell-bent on lying because he is failing. He doesn’t have the temperament, experience or fortitude to be a U.S. Senator, and Ohio voters got a firsthand look at just how unprepared Josh Mandel has become, and that will be reflected on the ballot on May 3.”

Mandel, a former state treasurer, and Gibbons, a businessman, are two of seven candidates facing off in the crowded Republican primary. The primary election is set to take place on May 3 in the Buckeye State.

Mandel’s campaign could not be immediately reached for comment.

Mandel explained that, although he’s been open about his condition, he’s never fully revealed how low he can get when his condition impacts him. In particular, he tends to worry about his wife, Terry, and their kids, son Alex, 31, and daughters Riley, 28, and Jackie, 36.

‘AGT’ JUDGE HOWIE MANDEL CALLS MEDIC AFTER PERFORMER CATCHES FIRE DURING STUNT

In normal times, he would simply focus on the fact that his family was fine. However, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic last year, the star says his OCD was kicked into overdrive.

“There isn’t a waking moment of my life when ‘we could die’ doesn’t come into my psyche,” he told the outlet. “But the solace I would get would be the fact that everybody around me was okay. It’s good to latch onto okay. But [during the pandemic] the whole world was not okay. And it was absolute hell.”

Often teased for his compulsive cleaning and intense germophobia, last year at the height of the pandemic, Mandel threw the panic right back in the faces of those who badgered him for his ways of staying clean.

“I don’t shake hands and now I’ve taken it to another level: I don’t inhale. I am not inhaling,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “Everybody’s watching, everybody’s aware. Welcome to Howie’s world.”
