Ken Griffin Calls Trump ‘3-Time Loser,’ Disapproves of 2024 Run

  • GOP mega-donor and Citadel CEO Ken Griffin called Donald Trump a “three-time loser.”
  • He said he hopes Trump “sees the writing on the wall” and doesn’t run for president.
  • Griffin has donated nearly $60 million to Republicans this cycle, and $1 million to Trump’s PAC in 2018.

Ken Griffin, the CEO of investment firm Citadel and a Republican mega-donor, called former President Donald Trump a “three-time loser” and said he hoped Trump wouldn’t run for the White House again.

“I’d like to think that the Republican party is ready to move on from somebody who has been for this party a three-time loser,” Griffin said on Wednesday at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore.

While Griffin praised Trump for his rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in 2020, he referenced Trump’s failed presidential bid in 2020, the results of this year’s midterms, and the Republican party’s loss of two Georgia Senate seats in 2021.

“I really hope that President Trump sees the writing on the wall,” Griffin said. His remarks came before Trump announced his 2024 bid at Mar-a-Lago.

Griffin voiced support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has yet to announce a presidential campaign for 2024.

“DeSantis is going to run on a record of just unbelievable accomplishment,” Griffin said, noting that the governor won reelection by 20 percentage points in a once-hotly contested state.

Griffin donated $5 million to DeSantis’ reelection campaign in 2018, according to data from the transparency website OpenSecrets. He gave another $5 million to DeSantis in April 2021, per NBC.

Trump and DeSantis are anticipated to clash for the Republican presidential nomination, with Trump deriding the Florida governor with a mocking nickname, “Ron DeSanctimonious.” DeSantis on Wednesday dodged questions about a brewing GOP civil war with the former president, saying people need to “chill out” after the midterms.

Trump has been blamed by some Republicans for the GOP’s bad performance this election after the party failed to take the Senate but won the House.

Griffin, however, said he was happy with the midterm results, saying the split votes showed that people came out to cast their ballots. “It was a triumph of democracy,” he said.

In 2018, Griffin donated $1 million to Trump’s Future45 PAC, per OpenSecrets data.

In total, the CEO has put nearly $60 million into Republican campaigns this election cycle, becoming the second-largest current GOP donor, according to Politico. The only Republican donor who’s spent more this cycle is Schlitz Beer heir Richard Uihlein, who has donated around $62 million, per the outlet.

Zia Ahmed, a spokesperson for Griffin, told Insider he had nothing to add to the billionaire’s comments.

Representatives for Trump and DeSantis did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ loser on being ‘humiliated’ reaching ‘lifelong dream’

“Wheel of Fortune” contestant Christopher Coleman has had enough of his name being dragged through the mud.

Coleman appeared on Tuesday night’s “Wheel of Fortune” episode where he and fellow players, Thomas Lipscomb and Laura Machado, caused a ruckus when none guessed the correct answer to the puzzle: “Another feather in your cap.”

Coleman spoke out on Thursday about feeling ridiculed, telling TMZ about the widespread animosity he felt following the episode’s airing.

“Wheel of Fortune” contestant Christopher Coleman opened up about his experience on the long-running game show.

“This idiom [‘Another feather in your cap,’] is something I learned when I was six or seven years old. But I haven’t heard it in over 30 years and so it has been a while for me,” he began.

“You are also under a lot of scrutiny and pressure when you’re in production,” Coleman said of being on the “Fortune” set. “A lot of people are sitting at home on the comfort of their own couch, yelling and screaming at the TV, when WE [the contestants] are the ones in the moment and in real time, trying to guess and figure out what this puzzle is.”

The correct puzzle that confused the contestants was “Another feather in your cap.”
Wheel Of Fortune

“The sad part is that people are saying that we [the contestants] were not intelligent and were trying to belittle our college degrees,” he continued.

Coleman then had a few words for the “trolls” that came for him on social media. “What I would say to the trolls is that, ‘You go up there. Half of you don’t even have public speaking skills. You go on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and go into the shoes of where we were standing.’ And then it will be a whole another conversation when they are trending and making donkeys of themselves,” he stated.

He explained that the moment was “an isolated incident” and wanted people to “have more empathy and a little more grace and understanding.”

“Just go easy on me and the other contestants because we are very educated people and we don’t want to be put in a situation where we are being cackled and publicly humiliated on a show that was a lifelong dream,” Coleman noted.

He concluded by saying that while he doesn’t have “many regrets” in life, if he “knew then what I know now,” he would have solved the puzzle correctly instead of spinning the wheel on his second try.

“That is where I went wrong and I take full accountability,” he said.

Christopher Coleman, Thomas Lipscomb and Laura Machado appeared on Tuesday evening’s show.

Host Pat Sajak leaped to the defense of his show’s contestants yesterday and posted a lengthy thread on Twitter, telling viewers to “have a little heart.”

“It always pains me when nice people come on our show to play a game and win some money and maybe fulfill a lifelong dream, and are then subject to online ridicule when they make a mistake or something goes awry,” Sajak, 75, wrote.

The trivia show host added in part, “These are good people in a bad situation under a kind of stress that you can’t begin to appreciate from the comfort of your couch. Good-natured laughter is one thing. Heck, they laughed at themselves. But, hey, cut them some slack. Unless you’re there, you have no idea how different it is in the studio.”

7 winners and 1 loser from the Patriots’ win over the Falcons

The New England Patriots have won five games in a row, with the latest of those victories coming in dominant fashion on Thursday Night Football. Beating the Atlanta Falcons on the road with a final score of 25-0, New England improved to 7-4 and another step closer towards playoff contention.

The Patriots played a near-perfect game on a short turnaround. With that said, let’s take a look at the winners and losers from Thursday’s contest.

Winner: LB Kyle Van Noy

It’s taken some time for Kyle Van Noy to get going here in his second stint in New England, but he’s been arguably the defense’s most dynamic player over the last few weeks. Against the Falcons, he had a career night with two sacks, two tackles for loss, eight tackles in total and a pick-six. It was arguably the best game of his career.

Bill Belichick praised Van Noy’s versatility in his postgame press conference with his ability to play all over the defense, both inside and outside, off-ball and on the edge. If the Patriots want to be playing late in January, they are going to need this version of Van Noy showing up on a weekly basis.

Winner: DT Christian Barmore

The rookie continued his dominance on Thursday night by consistently beating double teams and pushing the pocket for guys like Matthew Judon and Kyle Van Noy to pick up their sacks. Barmore’s ability to draw this much attention as a rookie due to his explosiveness and variety of pass rush moves has allowed the other members of the Patriots’ front to make plays on the ball.

He likely will not win Defensive Rookie of the Year honors due to the outstanding play of Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, but Christian Barmore continues to show that he may end up being one of the biggest steals of the 2021 draft.

Winner: OLB Matthew Judon

Eleven games, eleven straight weeks of Matthew Judon popping up in the winner category. Judon set a career-high in sacks on Thursday night by picking up his 10.5th sack of the season and moving into third third place league-wide. Judon’s consistency week-in and week-out both against the run, the pass and in the kicking game has allowed this Patriots to reach a whole new level.

The high-priced free agency addition is worth every penny so far.

Loser: C David Andrews

It is hard to get on David Andrews due to his consistency and leadership amongst the offensive line, but he was flagged for two holding calls last night. One of them negated a monster run from Rhamondre Stevenson that would have put the Patriots in the red area. Andrews has been one of the best center across the league all season long, and we’re sure he will bounce back next week and continue to lead the league’s top O-line.

Winner: RB Damien Harris and RB Rhamondre Stevenson

On a night where the Patriots offense stalled a bit, it was still able to move the ball efficiently through both Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. With Harris being cleared to play yesterday and after Stevenson’s big game on Sunday, we knew going in that both would have pretty substantial roles and split the work.

With both Harris and Stevenson running the ball (and fullback Jakob Johnson leading the way) and the types of physical backs that they are, the Patriots will continue to bully teams up front and wear defenses down. If Mac Jones can continue to play turnover-free football — something the rookie quarterback failed to do on Thursday — New England will be a tough out with these two guys leading the way and continuing to show that “bully ball” mentality.

Winner: S Kyle Dugger

Fresh off his best game as a pro on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, Kyle Dugger picked up right where he left off. He was matched up with Kyle Pitts for most of the night and held the talented rookie to just two catches. He made a big play early on in the game on third down where he showed the improvements he’s made in coverage when he stuck with Pitts and made a nice play on the ball.

Dugger has been a budding star in this defense and has been a chess piece for Bill Belichick. A lot of people talk about the 2021 draft class (deservedly so) but Kyle Dugger leading the 2020 class was another slam-dunk pick by Belichick.

Winner: Nick Folk

The Patriots’ place kicker continues to perform at a Pro Bowl level, contributing 13 of the team’s 25 points. While he did miss an extra point following Kyle Van Noy’s pick-six, he was money before that play: Folk made kicks from 32, 44, 53 and 33 yards out and therefore helped New England stay on top despite the offense’s inability to finish drives.
