Leslie Jordan’s Cause of Death Revealed in LA County Coroner’s Report – NBC Los Angeles

Actor Leslie Jordan died of sudden cardiac dysfunction, according to an autopsy report by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.

The cardiac dysfunction Jordan suffered was due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The 67-year-old actor was involved in a car crash during his death in Hollywood in October of last year, but the autopsy report listed his cause of death as natural.

“Autopsy showed a well-nourished man without evidence of life threatening trauma,” the report read. A toxicology report was negative for ethanol, marijuana, common illicit drugs and commonly abused prescription drugs like fentanyl and opiates.

Arteriosclerosis happens when the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body become thick and stiff, which can restrict blood flow to organs, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The coroner’s report listed “moderate to severe” cardiovascular disease caused by plaque build-up. It listed 80% stenosis (narrowing) of the anterior descending artery, 50% stenosis of the left circumflex artery, and 20% stenosis of the right coronary artery.

Jordan, known for his diminutive 4′ 11″ height and who appeared in “Will & Grace,” “The Cool Kids” and the film “The Help” among others, became something of an even more notable star during the pandemic with his musings on social media that became memes.

One day after Leslie Jordan’s shocking death, tributes are pouring in at the scene of the crash in Hollywood and several celebrities including Dolly Parton have sent their condolences to the late star.

Michelle Williams is a vision in yellow as she joins stars at BAFTA Tea Party

Michelle Williams is a vision in yellow minidress as she joins stars at the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles

Michelle Williams was a vision in yellow on Saturday when she attended the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The Fabelmans star, 42, dazzled in a canary-colored minidress, and her radiant appearance at the A-list event comes on the heels of her 17-year-old daughter Matilda Ledger being spotted in New York City.

Sightings of Matilda – who is the only child of the late Heath Ledger – are exceedingly rare as Michelle has worked hard to keep her daughter out of the limelight.

Gorgeous: Michelle Williams, 42, was a vision in yellow on Saturday when she attended the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles at the Four Seasons Hotel

With not one hair out of place in her short blonde bob, Michelle walked the red carpet in elegant beige heels and carried a cream-colored clutch.

Her ethereal features and fair skin were accentuated by soft makeup and a delicate blush tone graced her lips.

Michelle attended the event solo, but she has been married to theatre director Thomas Kail since 2020.

The couple share a three-year-old son named Hart and recently welcomed another baby over the summer.

Kail was out and about with Michelle and her daughter Matilda when the family was recently spotted in New York City.

Style and grace: With not one hair out of place in her short blonde bob, the radiant actress walked the red carpet in elegant beige heels and carried a cream-colored clutch

Michelle dated Heath Ledger for three years before splitting up in 2007 – four months before he tragically died from an accidental overdose.

Williams quickly abandoned living in Brooklyn for a quiet life in rural upstate New York, escaping the ‘morbid cult’ of paparazzi that descended on her and Matilda in the wake of Ledger’s death.

‘It was unmanageable to be stalked like that every moment of the day,’ Williams told Vanity Fair in 2018. ‘So I left, in a desire to create a sane home environment.’

Recalling that nightmarish time, the Venom star said: ‘I’ll never forget going to the post office and seeing a sign hung on the wall for anyone with information about myself and my daughter, to please call this number.’

Williams went on to speak about her fear surrounding that difficult period, adding: ‘When you’re a single parent, and that element of provider and protection is missing, it’s scary.’

Years later, Williams quietly returned to her beloved Brooklyn, purchasing a home for her growing family.

Both Michelle and Matilda are very tight-lipped about their private lives and neither of them have a social media presence.

Earlier this month, Michelle spoke about finding ‘balance’ between movies and  motherhood as she gave an insight into raising Matilda and her other two children.

The My Week with Marilyn star told Entertainment Weekly that children ‘have to arrive, and they have to be sustained, all of it’.

‘So I’m continuously searching,’ she added, ‘because balance isn’t a stable place. Balance means that you’re always adjusting.’

Keenan Anderson video: LAPD faces scrutiny after death of Black man who was repeatedly shocked with Taser

LAPD begins year with series of encounters that ended with three men dying

LAPD begins year with series of encounters that ended with three men dying

04:26

Los Angeles police are facing scrutiny following the in-custody death of a cousin of a key figure in the Black Lives Matter movement. Keenan Anderson, a 31-year-old Washington school teacher who was visiting Los Angeles, died early this month hours after officers repeatedly shocked him with a Taser.

Police said that when they arrived at the scene of a traffic accident on Jan. 3, in the L.A. neighborhood of Venice, they found Anderson running into the street and exhibiting “erratic behavior.”

The release Wednesday of dramatic body-camera footage of the incident has sparked angry demands for greater accountability by a police force that has faced past accusations of needless brutality.

In the footage, Anderson is seen lying on a pavement, held down by officers as another repeatedly shouts, “Turn over or I’m gonna Tase you” and “Stop it or I’m gonna Tase you!”

A clearly agitated Anderson shouts back, “They’re trying to George Floyd me… They’re trying to kill me” and “Help, please — I’m not resisting, I’m not resisting.”

Anderson’s death — he was the third person to die in police custody in L.A. so far this year — sparked angry reaction.

Mayor Karen Bass demanded the immediate suspension of the police officers involved, pending the outcome of an investigation.

And Rep. Barbara Lee of California tweeted: “I am outraged and heartbroken for Keenan… senselessly murdered by the police.”

She called for “systemic reform.”

In a video statement before the bodycam footage, LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz, a spokeswoman, said investigations into officers’ use of force can often take up to a year to complete.

“Our understanding of the incident may change as…additional evidence is collected, analyzed and reviewed,” Muniz said.

Anderson’s cousin Patrisse Cullors co-founded the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 amid outrage over the videotaped killing in Minneapolis of Floyd, a Black man, under the knee of a White police officer.

Anderson, who was eventually handcuffed and shackled, was taken to a hospital and died four hours later.

No cause of death has been officially established.

A statement from LAPD said Anderson had resisted arrest.

“Officers struggled with Anderson for several minutes, utilizing a TASER, bodyweight, firm grips, and joint locks to overcome his resistance,” it said.

But Cullors and others questioned that version of events.

“My cousin, Keenan, was actually really scared and he was asking for help repeatedly, and unfortunately that’s not what he received from LAPD,” Cullors told the Los Angeles Times. “Why wasn’t there help? Why wasn’t my cousin offered medical attention” at the scene.

Keenan Anderson, cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder, dies from cardiac arrest after being tased by Los Angeles police

CNN
 —

A 31-year-old father and English teacher died from cardiac arrest last week after he was repeatedly tased by police, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, marking the third officer-involved death in the city this year.

Police encountered Keenan Anderson, who is the cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, on January 3 at the site of a traffic collision in Los Angeles’ Venice neighborhood, police said in a news release last week.

As police struggled to arrest Anderson, they tased him repeatedly, edited body-worn camera footage released by police shows. After being arrested, Anderson was brought to a local hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead, according to police.

Cullors said in an Instagram tribute post that her cousin was “killed by LAPD.”

“Keenan deserves to be alive right now, his child deserves to be raised by his father,” Cullors wrote in the post. “Keenan we will fight for you and for all of our loved ones impacted by state violence. I love you.”

Anderson taught tenth-grade English at Digital Pioneers Academy in Washington, DC, according to a statement from the school’s founder, Mashea Ashton. Anderson was visiting family in Los Angeles over winter break, Ashton said.

“The details of his death are as disturbing as they are tragic,” Ashton said in the statement, adding, “Keenan was a deeply committed educator and father of a six-year-old son. … He was beloved by all.”

“Our community is grieving. But we’re also angry. Angry that, once again, a known, loved, and respected member of our community is no longer with us. Angry that another talented, beautiful black soul is gone too soon,” Ashton said.

Detectives from the police department’s Force Investigation Division responded to the scene where Anderson was taken into custody and are investigating the use of force, police said, explaining in the video that the department’s policy defines any death of a person in their custody as a “categorical” use of force.

So far this year, Los Angeles police are also investigating the police shooting deaths of Takar Smith, 45, and Oscar Sanchez, 35, and has released footage of those incidents.

Police said they responded to a traffic collision the afternoon of January 3 and saw Anderson “running in the middle of the street and exhibiting erratic behavior.” On one officer’s body-worn camera, released and edited by police, a woman at the traffic collision site tells police, “I think that guy up there needs help though, because the guy’s trying to run away.”

Body-worn camera video shows Anderson initially stopped and spoke to an officer before the video cuts to a text screen that says Anderson “attempted to run away.”

When the video resumes, Anderson is seen jogging into the street as the officer pursues him and stops him in a busy intersection, commanding Anderson to lay down on his stomach.

Anderson does not appear to comply immediately, and two other officers arrive and move him to lie prone on his stomach on the street, telling Anderson to “relax.” As officers struggle on top of him, Anderson can be heard screaming, “Help, they’re trying to kill me” and “Please, don’t do this.”

In footage from another responding officer, an officer can be heard repeatedly warning Anderson to stop resisting and turn over, and threatening several times to tase Anderson.

“They’re trying to George Floyd me,” says Anderson, as officers try to roll him onto his stomach.

Then, an officer deploys a taser multiple times on Anderson, who says, “I’m not resisting.”

Officers eventually handcuff and place ankle hobbles on Anderson, the video shows.

Later in the video, the Los Angeles Fire Department places Anderson, who appears conscious, onto a gurney near an ambulance. Police say in the news release that Anderson was given medical care at the scene by fire department personnel before being transported to a local hospital.

“While at the hospital, Anderson went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced deceased,” the release says.

Los Angeles police captain Kelly Muñiz said in the video that Anderson died approximately four-and-a-half hours after the use of force.

A preliminary toxicology-blood screen of Anderson’s blood samples tested positive for cocaine and marijuana, police said, adding the Los Angeles County coroner’s office is expected to conduct their own independent toxicology tests.

LAPD Chief Michel Moore said the videos were published in response to calls for their release from families.

“This is not, again, to do anything other than to demonstrate our commitment to full transparency and to judge this on the merits of what the investigation shows us and to ask for the public’s patience as we go about this engagement,” he said at a news conference Wednesday.

California storm: 90% of residents are under flood watches as another storm threatens mudslides, power outages and deadly inundation

CNN
 —

Much of California can’t soak up another drop of rain. Yet the state is getting pummeled again with torrential downpours and ferocious winds, causing power outages and treacherous travel conditions.

More than 34 million Californians were under a flood watch Monday – about 90% of the state’s population and 10% of the US population.

Parts of the central California coast got walloped with 1 to 1.25 inches of rainfall per hour, the Weather Prediction Center said. Extensive rainfall there Monday triggered significant flooding, mudslides, debris flows and closed roadways.

Widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches have been observed from just south of San Francisco to just north of Los Angeles. Isolated amounts of 6 to more than 10 inches have been observed in the higher terrain near the coast.

As the rain shifted slowly to the south Monday toward Los Angeles, the National Weather Service there warned of the risk of flooding, debris flow in land scarred by recent wildfires and an increased risk of rock and mudslides in mountains and on canyon roads.

And hurricane-force wind gusts topping 74 mph thrashed states across the western US. More than 37 million people were under wind alerts Monday in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona and Wyoming.

A 132-mph wind gust lashed Oroville, California. Residents in Washoe City, Nevada, were hit with a 98-mph gust, the Weather Prediction Center said.

TRACK THE STORMS

“Expect widespread power outages, downed trees and difficult driving conditions,” the National Weather Service in Sacramento tweeted. “Now is the time to prepare if you have not already!”

Almost 92,000 homes, businesses and other power customers had no electricity Monday evening, according to PowerOutage.us.

And the central California coast could be at risk of a tornado, CNN Meteorologist Dave Hennen said.

The severe weather is part of a relentless parade of atmospheric rivers slamming the West Coast.

California is now extremely vulnerable to flooding because much of the state has been scarred by historic drought or devastating wildfires – meaning the land can’t soak up much rainfall.

And after an onslaught of storms since late December led to deadly flooding, Gov. Gavin Newsom warned Sunday: “We expect to see the worst of it still in front of us.”

Two bouts of major rainfall are expected to hammer the West Coast over the next few days – without much of a break between events for the water to recede.

The system is part of an atmospheric river – a long, narrow region in the atmosphere that can transport moisture thousands of miles, like a fire hose in the sky.

The atmospheric river slamming California on Monday could result in a 1-in-50 year or 1-in-100 year rainfall event near Fresno, the Weather Prediction Center said.

A moderate risk – level 3 of 4 – of excessive rainfall covers over 26 million people in California, including in San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Fresno, where rain could fall at 1 inch per hour.

The San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz County has risen 14 feet in just over four hours and is in major flood stage. Parts of the county will experience “widespread flooding at shallow depths,” and the city of Santa Cruz will have serious flooding, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and US Geological Survey.

The threat will shift further south Tuesday, with a level 3 of 4 risk centered over Los Angeles.

“While some of the forecast rain totals are impressive alone, it is important to note that what really sets this event apart are the antecedent conditions,” the National Weather Service office in San Francisco said.

“Multiple systems over the past week have saturated soil, increased flow in rivers and streams, and truly set the stage for this to become a high impact event.”

In Sacramento County, officials warned “flooding is imminent” and issued evacuation orders for the Wilton community near the Cosumnes River before roads become impassable.

Wilton residents also had to evacuate during last week’s storm, when exit routes flooded quickly, officials said.

El Dorado, Monterey, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara and Alameda counties have issued evacuation warnings or recommendations for some areas due to possible flooding and other safety risks as forecasters warned of swelling rivers.

Residents in all areas of Montecito, the city of Santa Barbara and parts of Carpinteria and Summerland are being ordered to evacuate immediately due to the threat of the ongoing storm, the Santa Barbara County Incident Management Team said on Monday evening.

“LEAVE NOW! This is a rapidly evolving situation,” the team said in a release.

Montecito is a haven for the rich and famous, including Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex; Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres. Monday marks exactly five years since heavy rains in the area caused deadly mud- and landslides.

Santa Barbara County authorities are advising residents to “be prepared to sustain yourself and your household for multiple days if you choose not to evacuate, as you may not be able to leave the area and emergency responders may not be able to access your property in the event of road damage, flooding, or a debris flow.”

Newsom on Sunday asked the White House for an emergency declaration to support response and recovery efforts.

“We are in the middle of a deadly barrage of winter storms – and California is using every resource at its disposal to protect lives and limit damage,” Newsom said in a statement. “We are taking the threat from these storms seriously, and want to make sure that Californians stay vigilant as more storms head our way.”

San Francisco Mayor London Breed on Monday issued a Local Proclamation of Emergency due to the ongoing series of winter storms that began New Year’s Eve, according to a news release from his office.

This storm system arrives on the heels of a powerful cyclone that flooded roads, toppled trees and knocked out power last week to much of California. Earlier, a New Year’s weekend storm system produced deadly flooding.

At least 12 Californians have died from “storm-related impacts” such as flooding since late December, the governor’s office said.

In San Luis Obispo County, dive teams from the sheriff’s office and Cal Fire rescuers were searching Monday for a 5-year-old child reported to have been swept away in flood waters near the Salinas River in San Miguel.

“Floods kill more individuals than any other natural disaster,” California Emergency Services Director Nancy Ward said Sunday. “We’ve already had more deaths in this flood storm since December 31 than we had in the last two fire seasons of the highest fire acreage burned in California.”

Flood-related deaths can happen when drivers attempt to cross standing water.

“Just a foot of water and your car’s floating. Half a foot of water, you’re off your feet. Half foot of water, you’re losing control of your vehicle,” Newsom said.

“We’re seeing people go around these detours because they don’t see any obstacles – they think everything is fine, and putting their lives at risk or putting first responders lives at risk.”

For anyone who doesn’t need to travel during the peak of this storm, “please don’t,” California Secretary of Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot said. “Be prepared for power outages and other interruptions. Have those flashlights, the candles, batteries, charge cell phones at the ready.”

Already, flooded roads, toppled trees and downed power lines are making travel difficult, California Highway Patrol said. Some fallen trees crushed cars and homes over the weekend. On Monday, portions of the Pacific Coast Highway – US 101, a major north-south highway, were closed.

The Santa Barbara Airport, a tri-county regional airport, is closed because of flooding airport officials said Monday.

California is experiencing “weather whiplash,” going from intense drought conditions to now contending with its fifth atmospheric river, Newsom said.

Much of the state has already seen 5 to 8 inches of rain over the last week. Two to 4 more inches of rain are expected across the coasts and valleys – and even more in mountains and foothills through Tuesday.

Rising from swelling rivers could spill over and inundate communities.

The rainfall over the weekend brought renewed flood concerns for streams, creeks and rivers. The Colgan Creek, Berryessa Creek, Mark West Creek, Green Valley Creek and the Cosumnes River all have gauges that are either above flood stage or expected to be in the next few days.

“The cumulative effect of successive heavy rainfall events will lead to additional instances of flooding. This includes rapid water rises, mudslides, and the potential for major river flooding,” the National Weather Service said Monday.

The moisture is expected to sink southward Monday night, making flooding “increasing likely” over the Southern California coastal ranges Tuesday, the weather service said. Fierce winds are expected to accompany the storm as it pushes inland.

“Valley areas will likely see gusts as high as 45-50 mph, with gusts greater than 60 mph possible in wind prone areas,” the National Weather Service in Reno said. The Sierra Ridge could receive peak gusts between 130 to 150 mph Monday.

For those at higher elevations, intense snow and ferocious winds will be the biggest concerns.

Parts of the higher elevations in the Sierra Nevada have gotten more than 100” – or 8.3 feet – of snow in just the past few weeks, the Weather Prediction Center said.

Now, another 6 feet of snow is expected in some parts of the Sierra.

As the storm pushes inland, more than 5 feet of snow could fall along the Sierra Crest west of Lake Tahoe, the weather service said.

The heavy snow and strong winds could lead to near whiteout conditions on roads.

Adam Rich, former ‘Eight Is Enough’ child star, dies at 54

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Adam Rich, the child actor with a pageboy mop-top who charmed TV audiences as “America’s little brother” on “Eight is Enough,” has died. He was 54.

Rich died Saturday at his home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles, said Lt. Aimee Earl of the Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner Coroner’s office. The cause of death was under investigation but was not considered to be suspicious.

Rich had a limited acting career after starring at age 8 as Nicholas Bradford, the youngest of eight children, on the ABC hit dramedy that ran from from 1977 to 1981.

He had several run-ins with police related to drugs and alcohol — and sought treatment at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage.

Rich suffered from a type of depression that defied treatment and he had tried to erase the stigma of talking about mental illness, said publicist Danny Deraney. He unsuccessfully tried experimental cures over the years.

Deraney said he and others close to Rich were worried in recent weeks when they couldn’t reach him.

“He was just a very kind, generous, loving soul,” Deraney told The Associated Press. “Being a famous actor is not necessarily what he wanted to be. … He had no ego, not an ounce of it.”

Rich discussed his mental health on Twitter and noted in October that he’d been sober for seven years. He said he wasn’t perfect — referring to arrests, many stints in rehab, several overdoses and “countless detoxes (and) relapses” — and urged his nearly 19,000 followers to never give up.

“Human beings weren’t built to endure mental illness,” Rich tweeted in September. “The mere fact that some people consider those to be weak, or have a lack of will is totally laughable … because it’s the total opposite! It’s takes a very, very strong person … a warrior if you will … to battle such illnesses.”

Rich posted a picture of himself from his heyday with one-time child star Mickey Rooney.

“Everyone used to say to me, ‘You are the modern day Mickey Rooney,’” he tweeted. “But when Mickey Rooney told me that himself, it meant a helluva a lot more to me!”

Nearly 27 years ago, Rich participated in a hoax that Might magazine published about the actor getting killed in a robbery outside a Los Angeles nightclub in 1996. The article in the little-known magazine was intended as a satire of America’s celebrity obsession but fizzled when the spoof was revealed.

“I think we were a little too subtle. People were not getting the joke,” Rich later told the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t want to be dead.”

Rich was the little brother to a generation of TV viewers as the mop-top son of a newspaper columnist played by Dick Van Patten, who has to raise eight children alone after his wife in the show — and the actress who played her — died during filming of the first season.

Rich starred in the series “Code Red” from 1981-82 and voiced the character of Presto the Magician on “Dungeons & Dragons” from 1983-85, according to the IMDB.com. He reprised his best-known role in two “Eight is Enough” TV movie reunions.

But the balance of his acting career was in single-episode appearances on some of the most popular TV shows of the time: “The Love Boat,” “The Six Million Dollar Man,” “Silver Spoons,” and “Baywatch.” His most recent credit listed on IMDB was playing Crocodile Dundee on “Reel Comedy” in 2003.

In April last year, Jessie confirmed she was in a new relationship with basketballer Chanan Colman as they kissed on lunch date in LA, which came months after her miscarriage.

The pair first sparked romance rumors in March 2022 on Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the Caribbean as Chanan has joined Jessie for the work trip.

Jessie took to Instagram at the time and looked cosy with Danish-Israeli professional basketball player Chanan in a group beach picture.

News: It comes after Jessie showcased her growing baby bump in a sweet video shared to Instagram on Friday that documented the different stages of her pregnancy

Lovely: The heartfelt clip was set to her own song Sunflower and featured her holding up a positive pregnancy test confirming her baby joy. While other scenes saw Jessie’s baby scan on a screen

Months later in May, Jessie hinted that the 38-year-old veteran pro athlete is the first partner she’s been ‘properly in love’ with.

When appearing on The Diary of a CEO podcast, the Flashlight hitmaker teased fans about her love life but kept the details private.

Jessie was asked by host Steven Bartlett how many times she’d been truly in love and she replied ‘once’, answering in the present tense, hinting she saw her future settled with Chanan.

She continued: ‘Because I can actually see my life with that person and I’ve never had that before.’

Looking for more details, Steven said: ‘sounds recent?’, she grinned: ‘Maybe it is.’ but cheekily added: ‘Maybe it isn’t. Who knows? Hint.’

Proud mumma-to-be: Jessie placed her had on her growing bump as she stepped out on Saturday

Jessie and Chanan have not gone red carpet official, nor have they confirmed if they are still together.

Jessie’s exciting news comes after she previously revealed in November 2021 that she had suffered a devastating miscarriage after falling pregnant with her first child.

The singer took to Instagram to reveal she had been told she had tragically lost her unborn baby after going for her third scan, where doctors were unable to find a heartbeat.

Jessie told followers she had ‘decided to have a baby on my own’, after revealing in October she had split from her boyfriend of seven months Max Pham.

The grieving songstress said she was ‘still in shock’ but has decided to perform in Los Angeles later that week ‘because singing will help me’.
