Logan Paul says he suffered serious knee ligament damage in WWE bout

Logan Paul’s widely praised WWE performance this weekend has come with a cost.

Paul, the former YouTuber who has dabbled in boxing and now pro wrestling, announced Saturday night on social media that he tore an MCL and meniscus, and potentially an ACL, in his WWE main event match with Roman Reigns earlier in Saudi Arabia. The announcement came with a photo of Paul elevating and icing his right knee.

The bout was for the Undisputed WWE Universal championship and was won by Reigns, the defending titleholder, after nearly 25 minutes. Paul wrote that he tore the knee midway through the match, which also featured an appearance by his brother, Jake, a former YouTuber who last week beat ex-UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in a pro boxing contest.

Paul, 27, drew rave reviews for his outing against Reigns, considering it was only his third career pro wrestling match. One risky move came when he jumped from the top rope onto Reigns, who was laying outside the ring on a table, all while Paul was taking a video with a cellphone in his left hand. Paul made his WWE debut back in April at WrestleMania and is signed to WWE, though not as a full-time performer.

In June 2021, Paul fought Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition boxing match in which a winner was not announced.

Video: Jake Paul scores 2 ‘knockouts’ in cameo with brother Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel

Jake Paul didn’t score a knockout over Anderson Silva, but he managed to take out a pair of WWE superstars during his appearance in the ring on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

The 25-year-old boxer ran into the ring to help his brother Logan Paul, who was competing in the main event against Roman Reigns in the card dubbed WWE Crown Jewel.

Once he got in the ring, Paul delivered a pair of “knockouts” to WWE tag team champions Jimmy and Jey Uso, who are part of the same faction with Reigns.

It’s long been expected Paul would make some sort of appearance in his brother’s match after he flew to Saudi Arabia to show support. Before the event, he seized a photo opportunity with former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

As he ran to the ring, the WWE commentary team talked about Paul’s recent win over Silva as the YouTube celebrity turned combat sports star moved to 6-0 in his career with a unanimous decision victory over the UFC legend.

As for Logan, he inked a WWE deal in 2022 and made regular appearances with the promotion, includin his main event slot against Reigns, who is widely considered the current face of the WWE.

Considering Logan’s career with WWE, it seems more than possible that Jake will show up in future matches.

Sami Zayn made Logan Paul & Roman Reigns break character on SmackDown

Everyone acknowledges (pun totally intended) that Sami Zayn’s having an amazing year. Between the Johnny Knoxville feud that culminated in WrestleMania 38’s amazing Jackass match, to the next level work he’s done since with Roman Reigns & The Bloodline, the world is getting to watch a pro wrestling master at work in 2022.

Like most performers who’ve thrived in the WWE system, Zayn’s genius lies in his versatility. The Knoxville program was almost entirely comedic. Sami’s current story is ultimately about his character’s longing to be part of a family and a top act, but it’s still provided him with lots of opportunities to make people laugh.

And sometimes, those people aren’t supposed to be laughing. We saw a lot of that on Oct. 7’s season premiere of SmackDown, where in the opening segment neither the Undisputed WWE Universal champion or the man who’s challenging him at Crown Jewel could keep a straight face during Zayn’s “number two” rant at Logan Paul…

This is the first time I can recall Sami getting The Bloodline to corpse in the ring, but it’s not a new phenomena. He did it to the (almost) always stoic Solo Sikoa a few weeks ago backstage…

And who can forget when Zayn got both the Big Dog and his Bloodline nemesis Jey Uso with a little dance this summer?

No wonder everyone is singing his praises! He’s so good at his job that other people almost can’t do theirs!

‘Logan’ Director James Mangold On Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Return – Deadline

The Wolverine and Logan director James Mangold had some thoughts about the announcement that frequent collaborator Hugh Jackman would be reprising his iconic role for Deadpool 3.

Mangold took to Twitter and, without referencing the announcement itself or writing a word, posted a gif from Logan of the Wolverine clone X-24 impaling the original Logan on the horn-like root of a tree stump, a major contribution to the series of wounds that finally killed the long-lived mutant in Mangold’s film.

Fans immediately began reacting with comments that ranged from the accusatory: “You are not the final word on Wolverine”; to the legalistic: “Logan was never canon to anything since they said a mutant hadn’t been born in 20 years”; to the triumphal: “anything is possible in the Multiverse!”

Several hours later Mangold was forced to abandon subtlety and make plain his intent.

“Oh my gosh!” Mangold wrote. “Everybody chill. Just kidding! I’m all good! LOGAN will always be there. Multiverse or prequel, time warp or worm hole, canon or non-canon or even without a rationale, I cannot wait to see what maddness [sic] my dear friends @VancityReynolds and @RealHughJackman cook up!”

Tight end Logan Thomas will play in season opener for Washington Commanders, source says

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas will play Sunday in the season opener vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, nine months after tearing his left ACL, a source told ESPN.

Thomas was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report, with coach Ron Rivera saying earlier in the week that he looked good in practice. Thomas had said he would return by Week 2 at the latest. The Commanders host Jacksonville at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Thomas tore his left ACL and MCL in a Dec. 5 game at the Las Vegas Raiders. He opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list but was removed on Aug. 22. He has been practicing with a brace on his left leg.

Thomas took reps in Washington’s red zone passing drill Friday, a good sign as the Commanders usually have only those who will play run these routes.

In 22 games with Washington, Thomas has caught 90 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He also missed six games last year with a hamstring injury. At the time of his torn ACL, Thomas led all tight ends with 151 yards receiving in the red zone since joining Washington. He gives new quarterback Carson Wentz another option in the passing game to go with receivers Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel and running backs J.D. McKissic and Antonio Gibson.

Thomas, who is 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, provides a big target and is Washington’s best all-around tight end. Rookie Cole Turner (hamstring) also is questionable, but he missed several weeks in camp with a hamstring injury and the team likely will deactivate him, allowing Turner another week to get needed practice reps.

Washington will be without starting strong safety Kam Curl, who won’t play Sunday because of an injured right thumb that required surgery two weeks ago.

Watch as Logan Paul skies high for frog splash on The Miz through announce table at WWE SummerSlam

USATSI

In his return to the WWE, Logan Paul took on The Miz at SummerSlam on Saturday night, the tag team partner who betrayed him in WrestleMania 38. Paul, whose appearance at the premium live event is only his second as a WWE wrestler, made the Miz pay with a move to remember.

After AJ Styles took out Ciampa, who was interfering in the match to help The Miz, Paul took the opportunity to attempt a frog splash on his opponent from the top rope. Paul’s high-flying maneuver worked to a tee, as he crushed The Miz through the announce desk en route to an eventual victory.

Here’s a look at Paul’s frog splash, which got the Nissan Stadium crowd absolutely buzzing.

It was quite a memorable act of revenge for Paul, who teamed with The Miz to defeat the father-son duo of Rey and Dominik Mysterio in WrestleMania 38 in April. The Miz shockingly dropped Paul with a finisher during their celebration, turning a then booing crowd into one roaring with cheers.

Paul — a social media star, boxer, actor and more — drew skepticism from some when he signed a multi-year contract with the WWE  late last month. But after the success and rousing crowd reaction he saw at SummerSlam, it’s safe to say his future in professional wrestling looks bright.

WWE SummerSlam 2022 results: Logan Paul shows out, beats The Miz in a fun match

Logan Paul took his YouTube channel to heights big enough that he could grow a social following a company like WWE would be eager to get a piece of. When he was open to working together, they put him in a tag team match alongside The Miz at WrestleMania and wouldn’t you know it, he looked pretty good!

Good enough that they ran an angle where Miz turned on him and he was later signed to an actual contract. The result of that contract was always going to be a singles match against his former tag team partner and it happened at tonight’s (Sat., July 30, 2022) SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

How would he fare in a singles match on his own on a big stage?

Pretty damn good, actually!

Naturally, we got a fun surprise when Tommaso Ciampa got involved and refused to leave when the referee tossed him. AJ Styles hit the scene at that point to get him the hell out of there, fighting through the crowd while Paul hit a Phenomenal Forearm in the ring for a solid near fall.

It was a fun match!

They did a spot where Paul hit Miz with a frog splash through the announcer’s table, but when he went to pin him back in the ring, Maryse hopped the apron. Miz tried to take advantage but Paul moved and Miz nearly hitting his wife gave Logan the opening to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the three count.

And the crowd went wild for him.

How about that?
