Lane Kiffin – Texas Tech player spit, possibly used racial slur

HOUSTON — Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said a Texas Tech player spit on one of his players and possibly used a racial slur Wednesday night in the TaxAct Texas Bowl.

A scrum between the teams came after Ole Miss’ Dayton Wade fumbled early in the fourth quarter and Texas Tech recovered. There was pushing and shoving between players, and Ole Miss wide receiver Jordan Watkins was given a personal foul penalty.

After the game, which Ole Miss lost 42-25, Kiffin said the penalty should have been on Texas Tech’s Dimitri Moore, who is No. 11 for the Red Raiders, instead of Watkins, who wears No. 11 for Ole Miss.

“They announce our 11, which is Jordan Watkins, who wasn’t in the fight. It was their 11 that was fighting 71 [Ole Miss lineman Jayden Williams], and everybody knew because their own coaches were yelling at the guy,” Kiffin said.

“There was a racial slur involved; that’s not the point of what we’re talking about, [it’s] about the spitting part. I brought our own 71 up to the officials, right or wrong, you see him crying? He’s not crying, not because he got spit on, it’s because something was said.”

Asked to clarify whether a Texas Tech player used a racial slur toward one of his players, Kiffin said he wasn’t sure.

“I’m not going to, because I did not hear it, [I’m not going to] say that that happened for sure that he gave a racial slur to our player,” Kiffin said. “I was told that that was said in that [incident], but I did not hear that. So that would obviously be a giant issue.”

Moore and Williams are both Black.

Kiffin said he got so upset during the game because he didn’t believe it was fair that his player got a penalty that he thinks clearly should have been on someone else.

“I’m going to defend our players when a kid spits on them and is accused to a national audience that it’s him,” Kiffin said. “So Jordan has to deal with this.”

Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire was not asked about the incident, but Kiffin said he spoke with him about the spitting after the game.

“If you actually watch over there, one of them’s kind of laughing because he got off,” Kiffin said. “He’s screaming at the player, they’re losing their mind on him. … I talked to their head coach afterwards. He was like: ‘Crazy officiating out there.’ I go: ‘Yeah, that was really bad on that one that your guy spit and our guy got the penalty.’ He was like: ‘Yeah, I know.'”

Eagles’ Lane Johnson, Avonte Maddox likely out for rest of regular season with injuries

With two regular-season games remaining, the playoff-bound Eagles are hobbling to the finish line.

During the team’s 40-34 loss to the Cowboys on Saturday, a pair of key starters went down with injuries. Right tackle Lane Johnson sustained an abdominal injury, while cornerback Avonte Maddox sustained a toe injury. Coach Nick Sirianni on Monday said both players are expected to miss “a little bit of time.” According to league sources, Johnson is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season, although the team is hopeful he returns for the playoffs.

The Eagles play the Saints (Jan. 1) and Giants (Jan. 7 or 8) at Lincoln Financial Field. If the Eagles defeat the Saints this upcoming Sunday, they’ll clinch the NFC’s No. 1 seed, which would secure them a bye week along with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Their first playoff game would be in approximately three-and-a-half weeks — on either Jan. 21 or 22 – at Lincoln Financial Field.

“They’ll probably miss a little bit of time. We’re still evaluating through everything,” Sirianni said. “But we’ll never put a timetable on anybody. It’s early on in the process here too with these guys, so we want to get some information back. But it’s kind of looking that way. We’ll see on the severity and how long it will be.”

Starting quarterback and NFL MVP candidate Jalen Hurts also is dealing with a shoulder injury that sidelined him on Saturday. Without Hurts, the Eagles rolled out backup Gardner Minshew, who completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. There’s a chance Minshew could be under center again this weekend with Hurts’ status still up in the air.

“As far as Jalen goes, we’ll see, it’s one day at a time here,” Sirianni said. “We saw how much he wanted to play [vs. Cowboys], and how much he did to get his body ready. His body heals different than yours and mine. He’s going to do everything that he can do to get himself healthy. If he’s healthy, he’ll play.”

Meanwhile, Johnson, 32, was injured during the fourth quarter on Saturday. He was replaced by reserve offensive lineman Jack Driscoll. Following the game, Johnson was spotted leaving the visitors’ locker room sporting a medical bandage around his waist/groin area. Further tests revealed Johnson had torn a tendon in his abdominal area, a league source said.

The Eagles are hopeful that Johnson will return for the postseason, although that could depend on how his body responds to treatment over the next several weeks, a league source said.

Johnson, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro selection, has been a key anchor to one of the NFL’s best offensive lines since the Eagles selected him with the No. 4 pick in the 2013 draft. He hasn’t allowed a sack in 28 games, which is the longest streak in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

”He’s just dialed in,” tight end Dallas Goedert said recently. “Anytime he gets his hands on somebody, it’s game over. That record is a [heck] of a feat. Anytime he steps on the field, he’s the best tackle there is.”

Johnson initially suffered an abdomen injury earlier in the month during the Eagles’ Week 14 victory over the New York Giants. At the time, Johnson described his injury as a “tweak” to his “lower right ab/oblique area.” While Johnson missed the second half of that game, he was back in the starting lineup the following week in Chicago.

Over Johnson’s 10 seasons, the Eagles are 72-44-1 (.620) when he plays, and just 12-20 (.375) without him in the lineup.

With Johnson sidelined for an extended period, the Eagles currently face a couple of personnel decisions. Driscoll is the de facto reserve at right tackle, but the coaching staff might consider moving Jordan Mailata from left to right tackle and inserting backup Andre Dillard in at left tackle.

In Maddox’s case, the Eagles might rely on backup Josiah Scott, who struggled against Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb. When healthy, the Eagles boast one of the NFL’s best defensive back trios with Maddox starring in the slot alongside outside cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry.

But Maddox, 26, has already missed six games this season due to injuries. He’s recorded 43 tackles, one interception, and three passes defensed over nine games. Maddox sustained his toe injury while he recorded a sack on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the first half.

“As much as we want these guys to play, it’s always about their health first and the long-term health for the player,” Sirianni said. “Anything is on the table. I love the fact that Jordan has some versatility. I love that Andre and Jack are really good backups. We have a lot of faith in them to go out there and do their jobs.

“We’re bummed about Lane missing any time. But we’re also confident in the guys that we have on the roster.”

Sirianni concluded: “One of the earliest talks we had during training camp is … adversity is coming. When you go through these things in life and football, when you have the leaders that we have, it makes those roads a little bit easier to navigate. Is it still hard? Absolutely it’s still hard. Are we still mad about our loss? Absolutely we are. But sometimes that fuels you to dig even deeper so you don’t let each other down. We’re going to dig deeper, we’re going to find more answers.”

Twitter No Longer in Fast Lane to Bankruptcy – Featured Bitcoin News

Tesla CEO and Twitter chief Elon Musk has confirmed that the social media company is no longer “in the fast lane to bankruptcy.” Nonetheless, the billionaire emphasized that there is still much work to do on the platform. “But overall it seems to be going in a good direction.”

Twitter Won’t Go Bankrupt Anytime Soon, Says Elon Musk

Tesla CEO and Twitter chief Elon Musk revealed over the weekend that Twitter will not be filing for bankruptcy anytime soon. He said on the All-In podcast Saturday:

We’ve got the expenses reasonably under control, so the company’s not in the fast lane to bankruptcy anymore.

“It has been quite a roller coaster,” he added. “It has its highs and lows, to say the least, but overall it seems to be going in a good direction.”

Following the podcast, Musk tweeted clarifying that Twitter is not secure yet and there is still “much work to do.”

The Twitter boss further shared on the podcast: “My error rate and sort of being the chief twit will be less over time but, in the beginning, we’ll make a lot more mistakes because I’m new … Hey, I just got here, man.”

He continued: “If you look at the actual amount of improvement that has happened at Twitter in terms of having costs that aren’t insane and shipping product that, on balance, is good, I think that’s great — We’re executing well, and getting things done.”

The billionaire first warned about the prospect of bankruptcy for Twitter just a few weeks after he took over the social media platform. Sharing Twitter’s financial troubles in his first email to Twitter employees in November, he wrote:

The economic picture ahead is dire … Bankruptcy isn’t out of the question.

After purchasing Twitter for about $44 billion at the end of October, Musk immediately made some drastic changes to the platform as he focused on free speech. Soon the company lost half of its top 100 advertisers which made up a large chunk of Twitter’s revenue. Musk has been trying to generate income for the social media company ever since, including charging $8 a month for the Twitter blue checkmark ($11 for iPhone users).

Musk recently promised to step down as head of Twitter. “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” he tweeted last week.

3 children found safe after homicide in Philadelphia’s West Oak Lane; man found dead in Montgomery County

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Three children have been found safe after an all-night search that began with a homicide investigation in Philadelphia and apparently ended with a man being found dead in Montgomery County.

It all began after a 39-year-old woman was shot around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Haines Street.

Officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the living room of the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, police say three kids – all 2 years old – went missing from the area around the same time of the homicide.

The children, a girl and two boys, were believed to be with 37-year-old Stanley Baptiste, who was last seen on Haines Street just after 8 p.m.

That SUV was found in Lansdale, Pa. overnight but the children were not inside.

We know the coroner was called out and we know a man’s body was taken out of the vehicle, as well as a handgun.

The identity of the man found dead has not been released.

Overnight, troopers took down the missing poster for Baptiste.

It’s not yet known where the children were found.
