Kodak Black asks for his seized car and cash to be returned after July arrest in Florida

Kodak Black has asked a court to order police in Florida to return the car and cash they seized during his arrest in July.

Officers alleged they pulled the rapper, 25, over for driving in a vehicle with illegal window tinting and expired tags, and searched the car after smelling marijuana. The search reportedly turned up 31 oxycodone pills and $74,960 in cash.

TMZ has reported the Skrt artist’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, has filed papers arguing the rapper was not involved in illegal activity.

He told the court Kodak has already proven the pills were from a prescription to treat pain stemming from an incident in which he was shot over the Super Bowl weekend in Los Angeles and for ongoing pain resulting from being assaulted by guards while serving time in prison.

The attorney also claimed the cash belonged to the rapper, indicating it he was often payed cash for gigs and that his client kept money on hand to pay for various expenses.

Documents were provided to the court showing the Dodge Durango the Transportin’ singer was driving belongs to Florida-based record label Sniper Gang, and Kodak is a manager of that entity.

House arrest: The artist is currently under house arrest after posting bond

Kodak has been free on bond since his arrest.

The conditions allow him to leave house arrest in order to work, which is why the Tunnel Vision rapper was able to perform July 24 at the Rolling Loud Miami show.

On the official records, Kodak, whose real name is Bill Kapri, faced two charges: possession of a controlled substance with no prescription and drug trafficking of oxycodone.

Oxycodone is a narcotic drug prescribed to treat severe pain, and can be highly addictive. If taken in high doses, it could also possibly lead to respiratory issues and death.

The rapper is no stranger to having run-ins with the law, and was arrested earlier this year in January for trespassing in Pompano Beach, Florida.

The performer has been arrested for various different charges since 2015, including trespassing, robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and sexual assault.

Official record: The rapper has been charged for possession of a controlled substance without prescription from a medical doctor and drug trafficking of oxycodone

Vehicle was searched: The performer’s car was searched after officers smelled marijuana, and claimed to have found 31 oxycodone pills; seen in January 2022

Long list of run-ins with the law: The latest arrest was not Kodak’s first time facing problems with the law and has been arrested many times since 2015 (seen in June 2022)

Previous arrest: The singer was arrested on New Year’s Day at the beginning of this year for trespassing; professional mugshot from January 1, 2022

In 2018, he was sentenced to 364 days in prison due to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana. The singer was released in August 2018.

It wouldn’t be long until he was sentenced once again with 46 months of prison time due to lying on official government papers in 2020.

While the rapper was serving time at the United States Penitentiary, Thomson, in the state of Illinois, President Donald J. Trump pardoned his sentence.

Charges: Kodak was pictured in June attending a fashion show during Paris Fashion Week

However, Kodak still faced criminal sexual assault charges. After a plea bargain, he was sentenced to 18 months probation.

Earlier in January of this year, the ZEZE singer was arrested on a trespassing charge in his home state of Florida. The arrest occurred shortly after Kodak finished his 90 days at a rehabilitation center after failing a drug test.

The rapper has released music detailing his prison sentence, including the song, Last Day In (2021). The tune describes the end of the star’s last day in prison after his sentence was pardoned.

Kodak Black arrested after traffic stop in Florida

Black, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, was driving a purple Dodge Durango with an expired license when Florida Highway Patrol spotted the car had windows tints “which appeared to be darker than the legal limit,” police said in a news release. It was also discovered during a records check that the vehicle’s registration was expired.

As police searched the car, they found nearly $75,000 in cash and a small clear bag that contained 31 white tablets of oxycodone, according to the release. Oxycodone is a type of an opioid drug that treats pain and can become highly addictive, according to the CDC.
Black, 25, was taken to the Broward County Jail, where online records show him in custody Saturday morning.

Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, told CNN that he hopes to “move forward” with resolving the rapper’s case.

“Never judge a case based on an arrest. There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case,” said Cohen. “We negotiated a bond of $75,000 and we will move forward with resolving the matter quickly.”

Black was raised in Pompano Beach, Florida. His breakout hit was “Tunnel Vision,” which became his first top 10 song on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts.

In November 2019, Black was sentenced to more than three years in prison on weapons charges after he pleaded guilty to knowingly making false written statements when trying to acquire firearms from a federally licensed firearms dealer.
On his last day in office, former President Donald Trump commuted Black’s weapons sentence, calling the rapper a “prominent artist and community leader,” in a statement released by the White House.

Kodak Black arrested in Florida for alleged oxycodone pills possession

Kodak Black was arrested Friday after he was allegedly in possession of dozens of oxycodone pills during a Florida traffic stop.

The 25-year-old “Codeine Dreaming” rapper was driving a Dodge Durango in Fort Lauderdale when police pulled him over for a suspected illegal window tint, according to TMZ.

Police reportedly smelled marijuana when they approached his truck. A search of the vehicle turned up 31 oxy pills and $74,960 in cash, the outlet said.

The license and tags on Black’s vehicle were also expired and the rapper was taken to Broward County jail on unspecified charges, according to the report.

Black, who was born Dieuson Octave and later changed his legal name to Bill Kahan Kapri, has had a litany of legal problems that include an auto theft charge when he was just in middle school.

Kodak Black was previously arrested in 2019 for weapons possession, serving about half of his four year term before former President Trump commuted his sentence.

The Pompano Beach rapper has been in and out of jail and prison in connection with various felonies throughout his young career.

In 2019, he was arrested for weapons possession and sentenced to four years in prison. He served about half the term before his sentence was commuted by former President Donald Trump before he left office.

The Atlantic Records recording artist avoided more prison time last year by taking a plea deal after being charged with raping a teenager in 2016.

Black, known for hits like “No Flockin’” and “Roll in Peace,” has sold more than 30 million singles since 2014.

Kodak Black shoots his shot with Jada Pinkett Smith, shades actress’s relationship with Tupac

Countless celebrities have opined on Will Smith’s infamous Oscars slap, and the latest to throw his opinion in the ring is rapper Kodak Black. The Oscar-winner’s marriage with Jada Pinkett Smith has been heavily scrutinized by netizens worldwide since the award ceremony, and the Zeze singer has since hit back at the Girls Trip actress.

Will Smith took to the Oscars stage this year and slapped comedian Chris Rock after the latter joked about the former’s wife’s shaved head. Since then, a viral clip of Jada admitting to not wanting to get married has gone viral on social media.

In a 2017 Red Table Talk interview, Jada opened up about her marriage to Will and admitted to not wanting to get married as she was three months pregnant with her first child Jaden Smith. She said in the interview:

“And I was so upset that I had to have a wedding — I was so pissed I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way down the aisle. Will didn’t mind, though, as he had always dreamed of a cozy domestic life.”

Since the clip went viral, netizens have sympathized with the King Richard actor.

What did Kodak Black say about Jada Pinkett Smith?

The 24-year-old rapper took to Instagram live and sided with Will Smith. Kodak Black seemingly fired at Jada Pinkett Smith’s extra-marital affair with August Alsina. He said:

“Jada Pinkett, baby, you was out of pocket. You out of pocket for that s**t.”

Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, also claimed that Jada does not deserve Will. He added that she should be with him instead.

“You got a n***a who love you, all kinds of s**t. Come f**k with Kodak. That’s what you need ’cause you just on some bulls**t. You don’t deserve Will Smith. You deserve Yak. You deserve me.”

Kodak Black then criticized Jada’s friend and late rapper Tupac Shakur. Tupac and Jada were famously rumored to be in a romantic relationship, which the latter endlessly denied. Kodak claimed that Tupac was not “gangster” enough and threw shade at him for attending the Baltimore School for the Arts, which is where Tupac met Jada. In the live session, Kodak said:

“Long live that boy Tupac, God bless his soul. Tupac wasn’t all the way cut, wasn’t all the way gangster his whole life. The boy went to acting school, all kind of s**t, dancing.”

The Super Gremlin rapper then commented that Jada should “stop playing Will Smith like that.” He opined that Will was a:

“stand-up man with integrity. He knows who he is.”

He also recommended the Ali actor that he should find himself a “young tenderoni” who is 18 or 22 years old.

Kodak also suggested to Will that he should find a daughter “who gon’ praise you, gon’ cherish you.” This comes after Will Smith’s daughter Willow Smith allegedly wrote a letter to the late Tupac Shakur. Willow was rumored to be 11 years old when she wrote the same, where she pleaded with the late rapper to “come back” so that Jada and Willow “can be happy.”

At the time of writing this article, the Smith family had not commented on Kodak Black’s Instagram live session.

Kodak Black Says Jada Doesn’t ‘Deserve’ Will Smith: ‘You Deserve Me’

Just when you thought the takes were over, Kodak Black is now throwing his opinion into the ring over the Will Smith and Jada Smith’s relationship.

Kodaj took to Instagram Live over the weekend, seemingly calling out Jada over previous remarks she made about her husband on Red Table Talk. The resurfaced interview from 2017—which started circulating again following the Oscars slap—features Jada opening up about her marriage to Will, and how she faced pressure as a young actress and “never wanted to be married.”

“You got a n***a who love you, all kinds of shit,” Kodak said. “Come fuck with Kodak. That’s what you need ’cause you just on some bullshit. You don’t deserve Will Smith. You deserve Yak. You deserve me.”

He went on to touch on Jada’s past relationship with hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur, who he said “wasn’t all the way gangsta his whole life,” and “went to acting school, all kind of shit, dancing.” After calling Will a “stand-up” man with “integrity,” Kodak insisted the Oscar winner should go and find himself an 18 or 22-year-old “young tenderoni,” before speaking on Will’s relationship with his daughter Willow.

“Go ‘head get you a whole ‘nother daughter, one who gon’ praise you, gon’ cherish you,” Yak said. “Bitch, you supposed to be my daughter, daddy’s girl.”

It’s very unlikely that Will would be taking any of Yak’s advice here. At the moment, he’s just a few days removed from finding out that he won’t be able to attend the Academy Awards for another decade, a move on behalf of the Academy that’s seen plenty of backlash from movie lovers.

After slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars last month, Will is now facing a punishment that many think is unfair, given the magnitude of what other Oscar winners like Harvey Weinstein and Roman Polanski have done outside of the Oscars stage. Even 50 Cent wasn’t a fan.

“Goddamn they doing Will dirty, This is too harsh so he cant come back till he 63 years old,” 50 tweeted this week. “And the law suit ain’t even hit yet. SMH.”

Rapper Kodak Black shot near LA restaurant holding Justin Bieber after-party, attorney says

Attorney Bradford Cohen posted about the shooting near The Nice Guy restaurant and lounge on his verified Instagram account Saturday.

“There was an unprovoked attack on an individual (K)odak was with, when security and (K)odak came to his aid, several shots were fired at them by an unidentified assailant. Luckily, this was all caught on video. Kodak was struck in the leg. It was not life threatening, he will make a full recovery and he is in stable condition,” the statement from Cohen read.

The statement included a screengrab of the shooting reported by TMZ.

Cohen did not respond to a CNN request for additional information, instead pointing to his posted statement.

The Los Angeles Police Department earlier said an altercation took place around 2:45 a.m. on the 400 block of N La Cienega Boulevard.

Bieber was hosting an after-party at The Nice Guy restaurant and lounge, following a concert, and “the shooting occurred … near The Nice Guy, but it was not directly in front,” a source familiar with the event told CNN.

The source said Bieber was inside the venue when the shooting took place, and he decided to leave once he learned of the incident.

Police said there was a “physical altercation” between several people and gunshots were fired by a suspect who then fled the scene. In a news release Saturday afternoon, the LAPD asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

Two of the victims were taken to nearby hospitals by paramedics while the other two self-transported to hospitals, police said. They said the incident was not gang-related.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Rapper Kodak Black was identified as one of four people who were shot or injured Saturday at an afterparty following a Justin Bieber concert in Beverly Grove, according to multiple media reports.

“That’s actually very very strange, this is not known as a wild area,” said resident John Juricek.

Multiple news outlets, including TMZ, said sources familiar with the shooting named the 24-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, as one of the victims. The Los Angeles Police Department would not confirm those reports.

The LAPD said all the victims were in stable condition.

“It makes you more on guard,” said tourist Alfred Willis. “it makes you put things away and makes you look around you and notice your environment more.”

Police were sent to the 400 block of North La Cienega Boulevard, between Beverly Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, at 2:45 a.m., according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.

“They (witnesses) heard a fight outside, when multiple shots were fired,” Madison said.

The afterparty reportedly occurred at The Nice Guy restaurant, near the Pacific Design Center, where Bieber had performed a concert whose audience reportedly included Leonardo DiCaprio, Drake, Tobey Maguire, Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian.

A 19-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, a 60-year-old man and a man thought to be Black — who left the scene — were wounded, Madison said.

The LAPD said paramedics rushed two victims to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, and officers discovered there were two additional victims who self-transported to local hospitals.

That account was corroborated by the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey, who said police called his department at 2:49 a.m. regarding the shooting.

The man now thought to be Black may have called authorities at about 3:16 a.m., while in the 10300 block of Wilshire Boulevard, at Comstock Avenue, to report that he had been shot or wounded, Humphrey said.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, with unspecified injuries.

“It’s really sad and scary,” said tourist Briana, who only gave her first name. “We’re staying right nearby and we’re thankful that we’re ok and hopefully everyone involved is ok.”

No arrests or suspect information were reported.

Kapri was sentenced to prison in 2019 for weapons possession and was pardoned in 2021 by former President Donald J. Trump.
